Waldner has the basic tactics all worked out for each playing style, then adjusts for each player as needed. Pinning a penholder on the backhand side for several strokes, then blocking/attacking with his backhand to the penholder's wide forehand. Classic.
J.O.Waldner is a gentleman and a well respected ambassador for the sport of table tennis. I never get tired of watching him play at any age. I will always be his fan. My hat off to Xu Hui, he played well and maintained his composure. Class act all around.
JO is was and is a great player, great touch and feeling still, he just feels a bit frustrated cause he wants to finish the rally soon before the others hit him hard win strong topspins. In my opinion he should try to understand that thouse guys are young and everyday is harder to keep up with them with the age against. He should try to enjoy the game a little more, I think he believes he is in 2004 when defeating Ma Lin at the Olympics. Please Waldner everybody wants to see u enjoying the game and wants to see those memorables shots and rallies, ppl dont expect you to win everyone as easy as in 1992 Barcelona.
Do u have any idea how long he has been in this game ???? He is still here because of his passion for the game . Like or dislike his playing style thats a personal choice . He has achieved everything that there to be achieved in this Game . He is doing what he loves doing , immature comments like yours make you look bad .He was perhaps the greatest the game has ever seen ....
Waldner is THE MAN!!! COME ON GUYS , SHOW HIM SOME RESPECT ... he has done SOMETHING THAT NOT MANY MEN DID BEFORE ... DEFEATED CHINESE in TABLE TENNIS :)
At 47 years of age, it is near impossible to be in the top 10. You obviously are not aware of who JO is. He does not retire completely because he loves the game. Being arguably the greatest player in table tennis history, you should know that he has been in the game long enough to play against roughly 3 generations of Chinese players.
People- long term high level athletes have to be careful of a condition called "overtraining syndrome". Over time, loss of nutrients through sweating..muscles burning- the body OT can develop difficulty absorbing food (and we all know food quality has declined/thanks ) Monsanto) so J.O. may have to eat more to maintain an adequate level of absorption. The game has also changed, and momentum/control needs to be establish within 2 volleys after serve.. I think J.O. has adjusted remarkably well.
Waldner is one of my favourite players. But now there will be new player - me. There are not many players that can defeat Chinese players at TT. Waldner is one of them. But now is much older. Anyway like i said chinese players are the best in this sport with few exceptions like waldner.
to put it on a fair way. no one had advantages or disadvantages. xu had less experience than waldner. but he could compense it with his young corpse. waldner had the opposite effects on him. well experienced but slower than before.
he is obviously not as fast as he used to be and maybe even a little untrained but that hand of his is restless and magic(wicked deflections and chops) would kill to have him as a teacher
Btw when Waldner played long in 2010 he seemed to struggle with Waldner's "outdated" techniques especially Waldner's close to the table blocking. I would recommend that current generation of Japanese and European players study Waldner's "outdated" style. They may learn a thing or two Their current counter looping style will never work against the chinese.
Just watched : ""Jan Ove Waldner - The Power of Block" yeah he would have eaten Xu Hui alive. HE basically made fun of every top player Timo Boll, SAive, Primorac, coach Liu Guoliang, Samsonov. etc. Now I get why he feels that frustrated, he stills wants to do it, ofcourse he can not move anymore, too fat.
@@liamcannon9617 They didn't play 15 times for Christ's sake.Ma is an entirely different generation to Waldner.Waldner did beat him in the Olympics, which set him back for 4 years.
@@liamcannon9617 Yeah, and even Ma Lin said Waldner lost because he got distracted. They didn't play 17 times. It's 8-3 for Ma Lin including exhibition matches like China vs World.Get your facts straight.
Waldner is older. He must have practiced table tennis everyday to have his level. Now it's the end of his career, I guess he just enjoy eating like he couldn't maybe before
*sign* Who cares Waldner is an entertainer, he's twice Xu Xin's age. He's only playing the sport for his own entertainment and that of others. It would be wrong if an almost 50 year old player could still stand up to any of china's best players. Dumbest comment in so many ways
....I'll clarify.... so J.O. may have to eat more to maintain an adequate level of absorption...FOR HIS AGE. Most of you young guys wouldn't get tired playing against him because he'd score 11 points on most of you before the clock in your i-phones hit 5 minutes :) :)
old waldner play relax because at least if he lose, he still can show the audience that he play relaxed thats why he lost ."excuse"....he wanted his "face" more than anything...such a showoff...
No, its not true. Waldner hat the disadvantage all the time. I guess no one would claim a Federer vs Harrison game when Harrison is 25 and federer 43 would be even. one is in his prime and for being hones Xui-Hui is not going anywhere. While Waldner is kind of fat now. He is a legend and would easily beat Xui-Hui if you give him 15 years less and 20 kilo, as should be. It's actually remarkable he keeps playing at the level he does.
Dislike his playing style. And pretty sure that retiring is not an option because of financial issues. If he would train like a professional athlete he would still be among Top 10 Players worldwide. But if you are going to stay a chubby without any movement, then please leave me alone. Regardless of his excellent technique.
If Waldner played with Xu Xin -- not Xu Hui, I guarantee the score would be 0 - 3 (i.e. “3 eggs” in Chinese), not 2 - 3, and he wouldn’t be so relaxed, even in losing. :-) ★★★★★
Waldner's forehand hook versus Xu Xin's non existing backhand.I would gamble on Waldner. When was the last time an Asian lefty beat Waldner?1983 Cai Zhenhua with his antispin rubber.
xu hui probably grew up watching Waldner play during his peak. it is such an honor for xu hui to play with such legendary tt player.
Long time no see Waldner, he is still so amazing~!! Thanks for uploading

Anyone who calls that man fat or slow should be ashamed.
Respect his unequaled career, and the fact that NO ONE his age plays like that.
J.O.Waldner is a gentleman and a well respected ambassador for the sport of table tennis. I never get tired of watching him play at any age. I will always be his fan. My hat off to Xu Hui, he played well and maintained his composure. Class act all around.
Jan Ove IS THE MAN, HE DOES NOT NEED TO PROVE ANYTHING ANYMORE, RESPECT TO HIM AND WHAT HE DID FOR EUROPEAN TT
gotta love how Waldner won an entire set with just backspin shots
А что такое броски с обратным вращением?
Вальднер молниеностно играет сопернику как в правую часть стола так и влевую

Jo is old but Still #1 to me
У Вальднера хорошее чувство юмора
Thanks! :-)
Walner is still a great player. His block is always amazing to see !
У Вальднера обалденное чувство мяча!
It was a little hard to see how we'll Xu was playing considering this was definitely showing almost only points that waldner won lol
Someone take a foto when he hit the ball.. And he dident like the light...
Nice game, nice to see JO after a couple of years, but age has taken its turn!

I didnt play table tennis from 1997 and Waldner is still on top.Hes great rly!
love your intro :-)
Anyone know which Club J.O. plays ?
what is the song please?
waldner played seriously well this game, but xu hui had a major disadvantage. he is playing with a shakehand racket if u notice the handle carefully.
Jo is the best blocker of all time...keeps the racket so steady
Waldner is THE MAN!!! COME ON GUYS , SHOW HIM SOME RESPECT ... he has done SOMETHING THAT NOT MANY MEN DID BEFORE ... DEFEATED CHINESE in TABLE TENNIS :)
Cool! A Waldner vid!
Waldner is still unbelievable, regardless!
Impressive Walder version 2013 !!!
Eternal legend : Waldner
Pardon me, must've missed out some in-between generations, then. But yeah, you get the point I'm trying to make. =P
Whats Waldners problem at the end?
at 4:17 the score reads Waldner 56 - Hui 6
waldner best ever
Aw, poor Xu Hui. Nobody cheered for him when he won a point...
Still, gotta love JO.
What happens around 4:44? Is JO contesting something?
I guess one photographer use flash while taking photo.
If you gave Waldner a 38mm ball, speed glue, and hidden serves against Xu Xin, he'd be even more relaxed.
nop. It's a Waldner Senso Carbon v1.
Damn that block chop the real one he own it.
Waldner was so close, it felt like Athens 2004 all over again...
So many pivots to forehand by Xu and Waldner just blocks it wide to the other side.
OK, Persson does.
:D
like if you saw the glitch at 4.18 (56) points for Waldner
waldner looks abnormally calm

4:16 looks like J-O is dominating in points
it was a flashlight
Only Waldner can do 56 - 6 at 4:16...
Nittaku's Cup, with Butterfly adds and Yasaka table? Interesting....

Waldner is great!
Unless I see from camera, I would more lean toward Waldner acting to make him not look bad.
Согласен!Это просто песня!

There is only two players who could beat Ma Lin always (JO and Wang Liqin)..Meaning that Ma Lin was a headache for any player in the world.

Xu Hui can still play in Super League in China. So it can reflect the level of Waldner is very terrible even though he is at this age.
