My mom heard Whitney Houston sing in a church with her mother when Whitney was still a teenager. After the performance, my mom went up to her and said, "Ms. Houston, you are so beautiful, and have the best voice I've ever heard in my life. You're going to be a big star."
She said Whitney was soft-spoken and responded, "Why, thank you so much."

Listen to the calrity in her voice. She was just a rare instrument when you total up all the qualities her voice possessed. I can't think of another singer who had all of these.....clarity,pronounciation,diction,inflections,timber,power,tone....she had it all in one voice. Very rare.

R.I.P. Ms Houston. True early fans in Washington D. C. (and probably elsewhere) remember this magnificent song being played in clubs BEFORE her ARISTA debut! After a long, sweaty night of full on clubbing this way the song that sent many a club goer on the merry way! They hungered for more, so, by the time that debut was released, she had a VERY LOYAL fan base already standing by! The rest was history! I was there, and have been a VERY BIG FAN ever since!!!

This appeared on the "Paul Jabara and Friends" album that came out in 1982. It heralded the appearance of a new star. All the djs were buzzing about this cut. Her voice is even purer than on "Saving All My Love" and that's saying something! She was truly The Voice of the last 25 years of the 20th century. The moment I heard this in 1982, I knew she'd become a star.

In "Think It Over," Cissy's first dance hit, on a good system, you can hear Whitney's voice "doubling" her mother's, particularly on the high notes in the break of the song. Brother Michael was a perfectionist, even though so was Nippy thing is, Nippy never recorded or sang anything the same thing twice and MJJ who was a metronomic (most probably not a real word) in his particular OCD form of musicianship couldn't deal with that. Everyone's idea of perfection is so different.
They probably did record as they were friends but just never released the track or tracks. IJS Also record label execs usually make the last decisions plus the reps usually like the most popular opinion to generate more sales and a Whitney/Michael situationship might have changed views which = sales.

I heard this recording back in 1983 when I was a dj, and this came out on the album "Paul Jabara and Friends" which featured the Weather Girls (aka Two Tons 'O Fun, when they backed Sylvester) among others. @monizareba U sure u been listening since the beginning???? If so you would have known she had an album prior to this latest one. Screw the media and fake fans who want 2 talk about her drug addiction. @ the end of the day she is still the greatest singer in the world and you and nobody will ever change my view point!!!

+Chris Houston You also have to understand she was 16 when she recorded this song, and it was released when she was 19. Her upper register at this point would still be in a very high place.

Oh man..tears came to my eyes upon hearing this. I had the Paul Jabara album which featured a then unknown Whitney, 2 Tons of fun, and Leata Galloway among others...Whitney sounded so fresh and innocent and the arrangement with strings was so elegantly done. Thank you for posting this gem!

    Eternal Love MON AMOUR
    ✩☾✩☾✩☾✩☾✩☾✩
    Something's wrong
    I don't understand
    The way I feel
    I don't know where I am
    There's some mistake
    What am I doing here
    Away from you
    Where I belong
    It isn't fair
    She's keeping us apart
    And in return
I'm left with just my broken heart
    I close my eyes
I feel you close to me
    Back in your arms
    Where I belong
    Eternal Love
that's all that I have to give
It's only for you and me
    You're all that I've got
    Just say you love me
    And that no one else
Can ever make you feel the same
    Something's wrong
    I don't understand
    I've never felt this way
    For any other man
    My only dream
    My one reality
    My pledge to you
    Eternal Love
All that I give you is
    All that I have
Oh baby take me in your arms
    Just say you love me
    And that no one else
Can ever make you feel the same
No one loves you like I love you
No one loves you like I do
    It's just not fair
    You can't keep me away
    Cause I won't give up
I've got to get you back today
    My only dream
    My one reality
    My pledge to you

There will be another in her era we said the same for B Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Minnie Riperton, Aretha Franklin, It rarely we get to heard one spill their soul on the wax like these ladies. But in the end they all fragile, though they appear strong. Art is one thing. But does art imitate life or does life imitate art.

smooth persuader Phyllis definitely could have sung it. I think she did. I saw both these women sing in person and felt in awe of both of them. A few others who I think could sing this really well are Bobby DeBarge, El DeBarge and Bunny DeBarge. God. Broke the mold. May those who have gone before us RIP.....
