I'm having a blast with Homecoming.
Also, if you want to be a villain or an anti-hero they have that too. It's not just heroes.
(Also it's NCsoft that made it)

Not just an anti-hero but two flavours of it. The killer out for justice like Punisher and the mercenary like Deadshot. Vigilante and Rogue respectively. I LOVE the morality missions, they just feel so much more complete.

Your embarrassment about D4 is mine. I genuinely feel I walked right onto a sucker punch. But man those early gameplay videos were crispy! It held my attention for the campaign and I haven't felt a single desire to get into seasons since, which for an ARPG is a real bum note to finish on. I don't feel I got my money's worth at all tbh, not when games like Last Epoch, Deep Rock Galactic and Helldivers 2 are around. But even at my age, with more salt than pepper in my beard, it shows I still have much to learn!

I still like popping in on Rebirth and playing a bit. I haven't max a character yet. I never played when it was live originally.

Oh, and you didn't mention this. Homecoming is and has added new content. New powers and missions, so if you played heavily back in the day there will be new stuff.

Still my favorite MMO bar none. PlayNC only allowed this because of the PR shitstorm the first time around. Wasn't worth it to go around again and the code was all over the internet so shutting it down would have been a never ending battle.

city of heroes? the original concept for the mmorpg is quite interesting at that time.

Don't forget the insanely good costume creator City of Heroes has. Even more importantly, your character's performance is not gear based! No need to transmogrify over that ugly armor set here!

Microtransactions have gotten insane with video games. To be fair, blizzard started going down hill with Diablo 3, it wasn't as bad as it is with Diablo 4 but it was still pretty bad. Diablo 3 definitely was not the Blizzard that I grew up with. I miss the Blizzard from the late 90s to the mid 2000s when they just created GREAT games and didn't gouge you.

I suppose a compliment we could give to Blizzard is that they monetize released games. RSI survives off of a cult, which thankfully this community is too self-aware to become one.

I agree with woth most of what you said, but you talk like the Activision/Blizzard merger happenwd recently, like within the last five years or so. It was back in 2008.

Yes, I'm aware and I've noticed things getting progressively worse since then. I also know people who have worked at Blizzard and they've told me how bad it was to work there; but the rampant greed in Diablo IV was what really hammered it home for me.

@@tunafarrell2067 Fair enough. I've been noticing it for a long time now, I haven't played much of anything from Blizzard since the Mists of Pandaria expansion of WoW, and honestly I'm glad I quit supporting them when I did. I love the devs, but their C-suite needs some serious re-evaluation. They crossed the business event horizon a long time ago, from "we make games" to "we make money" and it shows.

Gamers started to notice a shift in 2016-2018. They definitely stepped up their monetization efforts. Sad thing is, we're already the boiling frog because of lame excuses as "It's only cosmetic"
