- A family gathered to celebrate little Robert's first birthday. As part of the viral trend called cake smash, his dad encouraged him to dig into his cake with his hands. However, things took an unexpected turn when dad picked up the cake and hit his wife, Candi Mulroy, in the face with it. Now, the dad is facing backlash online with some people suggesting divorce. Inside Edition Ann Mercogliano has more.

I attended the shortest marriage in history I think.
Husband smashed wedding cake in brides face, all his buddies laughed.
She walked out of reception and never returned. Found out she filed for annulment next business day.
I thought it was an over reaction until I learned they had discussed this before the wedding. His buddies egged him on into doing it despite his promise to her he would not.
So then I couldn’t blame her. Who wants a man who’s behavior is dictated to him by his drunk frat bro friends?

Not to mention- babies imitate what they see. So if the baby saw them getting messy with the cake, having a good time, not caring. The baby probably would have done the same thing. When you order A smash cake, it isn’t the only cake they give you, they also give you a bigger cake for adults and such to eat. So it’s not like the babies cake was flat ruined. They could have given him a piece of cake, from the big one, to enjoy and make a mess with, like he saw, at least, his daddy doing. Since mom ran away to go be a baby. Lol

I agree definitely not news worthy, but I’m on the side of mom here. She made clear she knew what he intended and told him not to. It shows the larger issue of him not having respect for her, and this was probably not the first time. I’m personally all for women putting their foot down when men think they can walk all over the women in their lives, especially once they think she’s stuck with him because of marriage/kids. They could have done much better framing it that way in this segment
This was a birthday party for her son. She had guests over. She most likely spent some time that day showering, washing and blow drying her hair, possibly flat iron too. She then spent time time putting make up on and spent time deciding what to wear. This kind of joke isn't fun y at all and it was disrespectful to his wife. She probably had to shower all over again to get the cake out of her hair. You think she really wanted to go through all that at her son's birthday? Husband is an ass

First off how did this end up on Inside Edition? Although it usually happens at weddings, this is a "custom" I've never understood. I first learned about it years ago when someone wrote to "Dear Abby" about it. Abby theorized that it was a passive-aggressive action on the groom's part, that deep down inside he didn't really want to get married, and that this was his way of expressing his resentment while at the same time punishing his bride for his own feelings of being trapped. I'm inclined to agree. I wonder if this guy is feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of fatherhood, or even jealous of the baby's demands on his wife. Whatever the reason, it's disgusting and juvenile.

My older cousin bought my child's 1st birthday smash cake. My kiddo didn't smash it or even put his hand's in it so my cousin thought it was a fantastic idea to shove my 1 yr old's face into the cake. I was beyond upset. She apologized but the damage was already done. The cake went up my kiddo's nose and closed off his mouth. I had to rush to get it off so he could breathe. In my heart, I believe she was punishing him for not smashing the cake she bought. I don't communicate with her anymore.

Did you think that maybe she wasn't thinking that? Why not just talk to her about it instead of never talking to her again? That is just odd to me. Maybe you would do something like that if someone didn't eat the cake you bought them, but it doesn't mean she thinks like you. A red flag went off when an adult shoved a baby's face who is barely over an infant, into a cake blocking his airways. He could have choked. That's very dangerous and no one should even think of doing something cruel like that to a baby. So before you try to gaslight this mom for making the best decision for her baby, it is better to be safe than sorry. It's normally the people closest to the child who no one expects that end up abusing and killing them. If her gut told her something was off about that, it's good she listened.

That may have been her attempt at humor but I would have edited the video and left out the smash and had a talk with my husband and moved on in life with a stern " don't do that again." My husband didn't do it at our wedding and we discussed it before the ceremony. I have been to weddings where I help the bride scoop cake out of her bra in the bathroom. So I knew I was not doing that at mine. Lol thankfully he was not even remotely into the idea.

Umm I did at my son's birthday party!! He loved Cookie Monster and so we got him a small cake especially for him so he could smash his cake because that a thing that my family and I did when we were younger!!
