I love years like 2006, 2007 and 2008. The glory years of the 00's. So many high quality anthems and then hilarious joke acts that you can still bop to. Let 2021 be full of quality and fun.
Literally could not disagree more. These three years are for me the worst years of Eurovision. Only three bops every year and full of jokes. The whole 2000s actually is the dark days of Eurovision for me. Things started to pick up again in 2009 when the juries were reintroduced.
@@tmdgcmct9756Wow, 2010s were pretty bad Imo, 2000s were probably the best. Later it was easier to fix the winners with the "jury" voting so that the west European countries could win sometimes. Also, I highly doubt Azerbaijan winning wasn't rigged or giving the Victory to Ukraine in 2014 and 2022 for political reasons. Everyone and their grandma knew Sweden was gonna win this year too, even if the song is super boring. 2000-2014 are probably the best Eurovision years
@@kendzo92 since the jury votes were reintroduced the televote winner has only failed to win 4 times... Two of those were western countries in Italy and Norway. Western countries such as Norway, Germany, Sweden (2012 edition), Denmark, Austria, Portugal and Italy would have won with the televote only.
Ukraine, Armenia and Greece were all doing similar things. Amazing things but similar things. So I think they had all cancelled each other out which somehow lead to a Russian victory (In fairness, 2009 looked epic). My personal favourites from this year are Georgia, North Macedonia and Portugal (Portugal's my favourite).
Serbia was standing out but unfortunately people did not want the contest to be held in the same country, we have the real issue of not wanting that the winning country do this in a row

Besides some hilarious entries this year was such a tough competition. Many of them them were a winning material. My favorites were Armenia and Norway. Russia's victory well deserved, nevertheless. Serbia could have won twice in a row.
It was leaked in later years that Charlotte Perrelli - Hero for Sweden received the highest jury score with all of the available 12s. The injustice of her 18th place in light of this news meant the EBU started to talk seriously about stopping the 100% televote, seeing as the general public were obviously not professional enough to judge music
@@Ja-ha Because it's a generic, radio-friendly song like everything else Sweden sends to the contest lol. Televoters tend to vote for more original and authentic songs rather than mainstream radio-friendly songs like Hero
It was mostly a protest against the ESC's transformation into "Yugovision" (i.e. Balkan states propping each other up in the rankings by only giving points to each other).
My best guess is that, among other reasons, most countries did not want to win. Remember, 2008 was in the midst of a Global Crisis, and many countries were not in a good financial position at the time. Sending a fun joke entry could potentially give people something to laugh about, while hopefully pushing the financial burden of hosting Eurovision on someone else.
Not a great year 😢 the ones I remember (because they stood out at the time) are Sweden, Bosnia and I loved the UK entry that year (we've had some awful ones but that one was good) didn't care for any of the rest and did not enjoy the Russian song - boring - I've been watching the Eurovision since 1974 - so I've seen and heard a lot - not a vintage year for me

Ukraine could have probably won it if it hadn't been for Greece and Armenia also doing the same thing

Sweden deserved more points! Greece was also very nice! Germany to bad the vocals where very bad. A lot of circus acts that year.
