Greece did not want to win at Eurovision 2001 because the Greek public broadcaster ERT said that Greece did not have a stadium to host the contest as the OAKA basketball court was being built for the 2004 Olympic games.
With nice songs like France, Spain, Greece or Croatia, I still can't believe how was that posible that Estonia won and specially that Denmark came second...
From Croatia ... umm... thanks? But personally, I don't think our song was really good in 2001. Vanna slayed vocally, but the songwriting was not there. It's lyrically weak, really repetitive and without any verses to properly structure a song. The only good thing besides Vanna's voice was the instrumental break. But that's just me. I am glad someone likes it.

I can easily give you a worse song that won: the winner of the next contest held in Estonia. Latvia's "I Wanna..." didn't even chart in its home country. *That* is the worst winner this century. I think the Estonian one has its charm and people enjoy hearing it and can dance to it, though whether it should've won, I dunno. I really liked the Netherlands' entry. :)

It was surprise for me that Estonia won that year but if we pass the fact that many friendly countries were in the contest, it brought something new on stage for that time, even though the song as a song doesn't tell much! For me the first place was between Greece and Denmark! I also put on my top five Spain, France and Slovenia! And what a surprise: Ireland at top bottom! 😯
