The Big Dipper was the first coaster added to Geauga Lake, beginning its status as an amusement park. It was also the last to leave. They say the captain should go down with the ship. Big Dipper watched as its crew was "rescued" and made sure its crew made it out. Sadly, three of its crew did not survive. Well done, Dipper, you captain of amusement and joy, you served your post well and stood as the last testament of a great park. May you rest in peace.
Wasn't x flight now known as firehawk at kings island rescued from here? That is my favorite roller coaster at ki. They torn down my previous favorite son of the beast.
It just didn’t want to go... it wouldn’t lay down. So, so many memories of my childhood were on those wooden tracks. RIP Big Dipper. Maybe someday, I’ll hit the lottery and rebuild Geauga Lake like it used to be, and I’ll get GG to build an exact replica of your greatness. One can dream, huh?.... 😪
Oh my God, this is sad. My childhood was there. My mom wouldn't allow me to ride, but when I was finally 14 my dad said for Pete's sake, let her ride already! And did I ride!!! Over and over and over and over, into adulthood and over and over....my absolute favorite coaster you were, dear Big Dipper.
So sad. We lost a legend here close to where I live. About 3 years ago, Screechin' Eagle at Americana Amusement Park aka LeSourdesville Lake. There was no reason to have had destroyed such fine Rollercoasters here Iin Ohio! Geauga Lake was a threat to Cedar Point and they wanted the attendance from that park to go to their flagship park. When I found out Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake I knew that it would have ended like this. It's called GREED. Giant companies swallowing up the smaller ones or the ones that could hurt them Iin competition. I am so glad that I was able to have had experienced Geauga Lake and I sure do miss it a lot. It was a park with classic charm something you will never ever get at Cedar Point. ....... RIP GEAUGA LAKE, MY FRIEND......
Geauga Lake wouldn't be able to compete. Don't get me wrong, I get were you're coming from. Cedar Point was just to big of a park for Geauga Lake to compete with.
Jim Ewen One thing you need to remember that coaster was made from wood and left to rot for 9 years I'm sure it was severely rotted, it's still sad but it will always live up to its reputation.
CavaliersFan20 My late father grew up near there in the Cleveland suburb of Berea (now my daughter's name). He went there religiously as a kid. He died 5 years ago. I wish I could have taken her there before it closed. At least Cleveland isn't going anywhere.
Also, Berea and her big brother Daniel Jr didn't have to wait until they were 36 like me to see a title. This time in June you might be happy! Go Cavs!!

Bree OfPlague me too but it seems to be part of the new generation, we don't have such old iconic rollercoasters in europe but seeing this shows some companies have no respect for history and just think of money making profits. Well guess what! You can't take your money with you when you die, so leave some history standing, not everything has to be new. In this case CF had better sold this rollercoaster to the america coaster Enthusiasts.
Bree OfPlague i am too!! the only big park now is Kennywood in pittsburgh,no thank you!! Bring back Geauga Lake and Seaworld!! ok everybody who wants these parks to come back lets protest!! protest Cedar UNFAIR!! whose with me
I never been to Geauga, let alone ever rode Big Dipper, now I won't be able to ever do. Thanks to whoever decided to close the park and demo the Big Dipper😡😡😡
Actually both Six Flags AND Cedar Fair are responsible. BUT THE ONES WHO ARE REALLY RESPONSIBLE IS SIX FLAGS. They just should've left Sea World alone instead of merging both parks and THIS would've never happened!!!
This park was too close to cedar point so no i don't pity cedar fair Call Me crazy IDC i still love MF though but they are Notorious for destroying good classic rides and dump More money Either retracting the hurlers or RMCING them
Actually if you come to blackpool pleasure beach in England the Big Dipper is the ride your looking for :) also there is a dual racing wooden coaster called the grand national what I suggest going on ;)
That music was way to upbeat for this sadness. 😢 imagine how much money someone could make selling pieces of this.? And all the schools and malls that have been taken down.
Arguably Six Flags is the one who triggered the decline of Geauga Lake. The park’s attendance dropped 75% from 2001 to 2005 from what I’ve heard. Not saying they shouldn’t have saved this ride, but... the park wasn’t successful.

Screechin Eagle was a terrific coaster - and like this one, a true loss to the industry

Every park is being demolished.. and then replacing it with malls and apartments I'm getting so sick of it!

Soup Grand National is technically a mobius loop.
This felt like watching the very concepts of fun and joy themselves being destroyed... ; n ;

I was going there tomorrow to see it and the entrance. Now I'm mega bummed. One week too late.
RIP BIG DIPPER
heartbreaking
Thank Six Flags, for jumping the gun and diving into a whole new investment they had no business dealing with.
Cedar Point caused all of this . Wanted a new park so they closed and tore up this so no one could rebuild.
#momentofsilence
At least one of them are still alive in the UK.

So sad! It could have been moved and reassembled, but Cedar Fair just let it rot.
Imagine being this guy
Yeah, just a one man job I guess.
Why do we do thsi
Mute the music and play something sad. Because this should depress you.
I remember beams falling off that thing in the late 70's.
No
Cedar Fair is the worst amusement company in THE WORLD I JUST CUT MY SEASON PASS TO KINGS ISLAND AND BUYING A SIX FLAGS PASS
Kevin Thompson They really are, they're assholes too,
