Living in Solon went there many time as a kid n young man Rode it many times Think last time was the late 90s The big treat was a family trip to Cedar Point Living in FL ever trip back my kids insist on Cedar Point Last trip there was 2017 with grandkids Thanks Stay safe
Rode this many times as a kid. The third hill once was a double-dip hill. It was removed around 1980 and replaced with a slight downward straight-away.
This is so sad to watch. All my summers were spent here. I loved the Big Dipper! That was the best rollercoaster in the world! My world, that is. My friend and I had Season passes and one day, it was a little rainy. And the park was empty. So, we were allowed to keep riding the rides, without getting off! It was a blast! We went on the Big Dipper, the Mirage, the water rollercoaster. I can't remember the name of it. We had the park to ourselves and we took advantage of it! I remember the Chrysler picnics. My dad worked at Chrysler. And the food was provided. It was the best food I have ever eaten. Maybe that's because we were so tired from the walking and waiting in lines. That worked up a huge appetite. I have so many fond memories of Geauga Lake Park. I wish it was still around. R.I.P. Geauga Lake Park.😪
My Dad worked at GM . they would have there company picnics there . So much fun . went on the Big Dipper with my Dad . I was probably only 9 or 10 at the time . Still remember going over the first incline . I came off the seat . I don't remember any seat belts ,just a metal bar to hang on to . Loved Geauga Lake .
Such a fun place and I will always remember my summers here. The Big Dipper was a great coaster but boy,did it give me whiplash..LOL Loved every minute of it !! Good times with friends and family...Memories to last a lifetime❤
Thank you for your very kind coments :-) Much appreciated! Plenty of more fun on my RUclips channel, hope you subscribed :-) A hint I learned from Casey Neistat, was to 'tell a story' when you make a video, so I do my best to incorporate that technique in my videos....
I rode that coaster a thousand times. I had a season pass every year and could ride my bike up there from Aurora Shores. That was a great time to be a kid.
The Double Loop & Wave pool was most memorable to me as a child. Id love to see what the wave pool looks like, I remember it gaving some cool artwork where the waves came from.
I have multiple photo galleries of Geauga Lake on my website, you'll definitely see the wave pool... or what's not left of it... hehehe... WWW.DRONEOHIO.COM
You are the reason it got torn down. You brought attention to it since it went viral and they wanted to stop people from breaking in to see it thanks forbthat
The internet does make me laugh at times 🤣 If you had done two minutes of research you'd realize this was the very first time I ever shot the Big Dipper, exactly TWO whole days before they tore it down. So I'm gunna guess your comment holds no merit 😉 Nice try though 👍
We had a nice old family amusement park here in Wichita called Joyland. It was the first amusement park that I remember going to. There was a potato chip company that would include blue plastic chips in the bags that we could use as tokens at Joyland, and at the end of the school year, there would be a couple of weeks where students could get free tickets depending on how many A’s, B’s and C’s they received on their report cards. It had the very first dark ride that I had ridden (and was terrified of for years after) and an AWESOME old wooden roller coaster. Unfortunately, the park was situated in an area of the city that is going downhill and crime was/is increasing. The park closed, reopened shortly, and then closed again. All of us Wichitans who wanted the park to be restored had hope until one spring day when a massive thunderstorm took out the lift hill. There is a video of the remaining section of the roller coaster being demolished on RUclips. I agree with another commenter who commented that there aren’t enough good old wooden roller coasters anymore... and I’ll go on to say that there aren’t enough nice family parks where families can go for the day without spending $100.00+, worrying about crime, or waiting in huge lines...
Yes, Cedar fair bought the park awhile back. I think they purchased it to eliminate the competition. I don’t think the parks main appeal were the rides. Just that it was a far closer trip to keep the kids happy.
Very sad to see things like this. Something that provided generations with laughter and good times. I'm glad I got to ride this ride about 2 years before the park closed. I also got to ride the other John Miller coaster at the old Americana park, the Screechin Eagle....2 credits I can be thankful for.
This park would still be operating today if Cedar Fair hadn't been so greedy. The Geauga area sadly misses Geauga Lake Park. And the whole area of N.E. Ohio also. Rest in peace memories .
Was raised 2 miles from Geauga Lake Park. Went there with my friends from 1952 to 1962. Took my wife on the coaster when she was pg with our first child in 62. She just made it through the ride - had to scrap her up. We always rode the back car. There is no words as to how I miss Geauga Lake and that time period. Thanks so very much for putting this on. Thanks Doug H.
Nice combination of UAV & OSMO video. Liked the parts showing the platform where (dare I say) millions got on/off the ride. The Big Dipper wasn't the highest, or fastest of the wooden coasters. It was a fun ride, which provided pretty good "air time" at various points. I rode it many times. I understand that it is now completely "razed", not one timber left standing ... which is pretty sad. However, this video, and others like it, will insure that people who did ride it during all those years of operation, will be able to watch, and recall the fun they had there. As Bob Hope used to sing: "Thanks, for the memories ...."
Bill Somrak this was a favorite coaster of mine as a child. Our father took us every summer....a sad reminder of the changing times. None the less....a GREAT VIDEO
Cedar Fair owned it. They bought it from six flags just to close it. The park was doing so good . It started becoming better than Cedar Point. When Six Flags had financial troubles, they put it up for sale which unfortunately gave Cedar Fair this opportunity.
Rhett Krecic actually it did great as Geauga Lake for over 100 years. Sure smaller park 4-5 roller coasters & a water park Fun Times owned it 1969-1999 & sea world was a separate entity Owned by bush gardens Six flags bought everything in 2000 & wanted to compete with Cedar point
Another great video, friend! Lots of neat geometric views, very smoothly done. Re: the start to climb that rail, what happened? Chicken out? :-) All best for holidays!
No, I actually went up a bit further on the lift hill, but not all the way to the top... of course, a majority of the footage we get, doesnt ever get seen, for whatever reasons... we use what fits into the movie :-) I did like how this one turned out though, I think it tells a good story of an old friend...
What a shame. I live down by Cincinnati so I go to Kings Island all the time, I never went here, but from the povs that I've seen the Big Dipper looked like a fun ride. They really should have moved it out of the park like quite a few of the coasters from Geauga Lake.
Drone Ohio Went once and Sea World, so many abandoned places. Ohio has lost many amusement parks😢 Excellent drone piloting, music, Loved sunset ending.
Andy Pritchard I am your way also but had been to Geauga, Sea World. Hate seeing any history gone but guess I am to see more as I age. Different, sad times.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you subscribe, and come back to enjoy many of the other projects we've produced this year. Over 100 videos in one year, actually... And with all due respect, Six Flags played a major role in the demise of this once great park. We can't put all the blame on Cedar Fair... (or can we?? hehehe)
I think they were just trying to scale back the park to make it more of a complement and less of a competitor to Cedar Point. The only problem is they seemed to not care about the fans and longtime visitors enough to explicitly tell them this, and cared even less about them when attendance declined in the years of their ownership.
I'm super mad they let this coaster go.. Should've been dismantled carefully, moved and restored. This coaster was like 100 years old.. a true classic. idiots.
Chad Smath Thanks Chad for your comments. All things considered it can't totally be blamed on Cedar Fair, Six Flags over invested into the park & it just didn't pan out as they predicted. Glad you enjoyed the video
I never got to go to Geauga Lake when I was growing up in Ohio because my family always went to Cedar Point. I'm very sad seeing everything gone at Geauga lake!! I wish Cedar Fair would make Geauga lake alive again. Cedar point is running out of room to build coasters, Why not use Geauga lake again???
I don’t believe anyone could have saved the park. The ride although a classic steel wheel in track creation was not a masterpiece of engineering technology. The park had one major rival park with far clairvoyance for the future. It’s longevity was just based on population concentrations that opted in for the inferior park for price and longevity of travel time. With maintenance of structures needing major work in replacement for continued operation. They took the best offer they could get for the park. No one with deep pockets was willing to risk an investment. That offer was made by there competitor. They weren’t going to throw anymore money away on a losing proposition. Available space there was also a near impossible mountain to navigate. Property values there were astronomical. It was doomed for failure.
I love cedar point, but am very disappointed in this history being lost,I went to geauga lake as much as cedar point. This park and rollercoaster has history, would of made it to 100 if they wouldn't have closed the park.If I didnt like coasters so much I'd quit going all together, and kings island is also owned by cedar point so.Just wish they would've Went with their heart and not money,on this park.Cedar point rakes in the money,And they just raised the price again.Gonna be 100 $ in 20 yrs I bet, just for a ticket.. Think someone said its 72 bucks now.ugh!!!!!
I miss this place
Brings a tear to my eyes. So much of my childhood spent here growing up and at Sea World next door. Great memories.

Very impressive film
Dylan McCaughin - (Stuntman) Thank you very much, I appreciate the comment. Glad you liked it, that's why I do what I do, for other folks to enjoy...
What a shame... That park was amazing. Hands down My favorite park in the world.
Priceless video. You are very good at what you do.
this is just so sad!! wow, how could they just throw this away!
this was the very first coaster I ever rode as a kid. Went on it with my mom roughly 40 years ago. Ahh the memories.
Thank you for documenting this historical landmark. So beautifully done too! So many wonderful memories there!

Me too.
And Chrysler picnics were held here every summer. The best amusement park ever! So sad it's gone.
Right in the feels. I grew up going to Geauga Lake. I miss this park!

UGH, JUST LOOKING AT THE BEGINNING BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES, ESPECIALLY THE LINES TO STAND IN

Awwwww, how sweet!!! You're quite welcome :-) Glad you enjoyed it!
Wonderful footage of the coaster. Awesome work. I loved going when i was a kid.
Amber Strock Well looky looky who's here on my RUclips page! Hope you subscribed :-) This was a fun one to do of course!
I certainly did! And if ever you go back. Please let me know if you want company!!

What memories I had there
Very interesting flight Ohio, have a great holiday. : ))
Thanx Big Guy, I'm a lil behind in replying, Xmas was enjoyable, and tonight we say goodbye to 2016...
Awesome
Heartbreaking video. What a loss.
Great video - thanks!
You're quite welcome, glad you enjoyed it :-)

Thanx for your viewing support Wolken, and appreciate the comments as well. This was an enjoyable project :-)
well done! happy holidays
Thanx Al, appreciate your viewing support, and comments... Ho ho ho... and Happy New Year...
What is that at 3:12? It looks like a kiddie pool or fountain? And what is the platform with the arrows? Maybe slides were on there.
Right around that coaster was the water park.
Otro triste caso de un gran parque proveedor de alegría q se fue y no volverá... Abrazo fuerte desde Argentina!
This didn’t need to happen if you had the right people running the park
Cedar Fair owned it. They bought it from six flags just to close it. The park was doing so good . It started becoming better than Cedar Point. When Six Flags had financial troubles, they put it up for sale which unfortunately gave Cedar Fair this opportunity.

Rodknock Rick you are right cedar fair killed geauga lake was a great place to go 😊

One of your best, I feel. Thanks!

Andy Pritchard Thank you for your view & comment. This park had alot of historical significance to us up here in northern Ohio :-)
Drone Ohio Went once and Sea World, so many abandoned places. Ohio has lost many amusement parks😢
Excellent drone piloting, music, Loved sunset ending.
Andy Pritchard I am your way also but had been to Geauga, Sea World. Hate seeing any history gone but guess I am to see more as I age. Different, sad times.
That was the first roller coaster I ever went on.
It was in 1973.
I was expecting an fpv view from a racing quad as it sped along the old track to simulate a ride. This cinematic approach is nice too though.
Thanks for making this, its hard to forgive cedar fair for what happened there,
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you subscribe, and come back to enjoy many of the other projects we've produced this year. Over 100 videos in one year, actually... I only know about the park in this video, which is quite pretty! It's a shame that the law doesn't protect historical structures (coasters).
😢
I went to wild water kingdom but not the amusement park. It makes me feel so sad.
Ain't nothing sadder than a park w/no kids.
Nothing's sadder than a rollercoaster with no park
That roller coaster is extra dangerous. 😊
It was a lil bumpy and jerky, but that's what added to it's uniqueness :-)
My grandma almost died on it. She almost fell out of the car. Sad I never got to ride it when everyone else in my family did.
I'm super mad they let this coaster go.. Should've been dismantled carefully, moved and restored. This coaster was like 100 years old.. a true classic. idiots.
It was 91
What a shame.
sad place
so very sad what cedar fair did to this ride and the history if this park. its an abomination
Chad Smath Thanks Chad for your comments. All things considered it can't totally be blamed on Cedar Fair, Six Flags over invested into the park & it just didn't pan out as they predicted. Glad you enjoyed the video
cedar fair sucks
I have not and never will attend a cedar fair park since this happened.
Exactly. Six Flags was over ambitious with their expansion, and then seemed to stop caring. Then sold off the mess to someone else.
I never got to go to Geauga Lake when I was growing up in Ohio because my family always went to Cedar Point. I'm very sad seeing everything gone at Geauga lake!!
