For the first con: you don‘t have to buy the iPad pro, the normal budget iPad is totally sufficient for a uni student (maybe except for graphic design students, etc.)
I got the basic iPad and 1st gen pencil, I didn’t look too much into the other models bc I don’t have any other Apple products so I didn’t think I’d notice any lacking features. That being said, I do wish I had gone for the iPad Air and an iPad mini because I don’t like apple’s version of multi tasking/split screen and I find the basic iPad does not feel like a premium device, yet it was still over $500. I got a matte screen protector for $2, pencil case & sleeve for $5 and a magnetic case for $7 all on amazon so the accessories can be affordable if you look for them My laptop was 5 years old at this point so I got a keyboard case a couple months later ($20) and was able to use my iPad for all my assignment needs. For using word, PowerPoint, etc the iPad can replace a laptop. In my 1st and 2nd year, some of my classes ran simulations and had additional software that only worked on a computer and that’s the only reason I can think of why it wouldn’t be able to function as a laptop replacement
From the sounds of it, you can entirely replace your need for a laptop with just your iPad. Apple sells both the Magic Keyboard and Smart Folio Keyboard for the iPad which essentially converts it to a laptop replacement and could be very useful for you!

I've done a ton of papers on an iPad. A whole office suite is free (iWork) and includes everything you need to do any paper you could possibly have to write. There are also markdown editors that allows you to write in plaintext and have it stylized afterwards. An iPad won't work well if you are doing programming however. There are some apps that allow python editing but it will not be anywhere near as good as a traditional desktop/laptop. You won't be able to utilize any of the open source projects out there that makes programming a joy.
Very good advice right there. To add, I think if you wanna use this for school, I recommend using a Logitech k380 and pebble mouse instead of the Apple keyboard cases. Reasons being , they are a lot cheaper and can be used even when you plan to switch tablets in the future. Additionally, you do not need to bring along that extra weight with you when you don’t need to use the keyboard. I think the price of the tablet is very OK, if you buy during the (Back to school) discount period and also if you sell the airpods for some cash back on the purchase.

Save some money and get the 10.2 inch and a Logitech combo or brydge or something like a high quality keyboard case. Is it difficult taking notes on the smaller screen? I chose the mini over the 7th gen because of the better tech specs but am worried about size. Any thoughts?
@@TheMannyli I have a question. Why didn't you just buy a regular iPad or another version of it? A lot of people say that they like to take notes on an iPad, but I don't see why they would get a iPad pro if they are mainly using it as a notebook or for online textbooks.
@Manny Li I’m taking a remedial class in the summer and I’ve noticed that I take notes everywhere ! On the paper and then I use more 📝 😅😅😅to rewrite my notes again because I don’t want sloppy notes and then I feel like I’m using too much paper would you recommend me getting the iPad ? I feel like I should because I’ve seen other reviews and how if you write things everywhere you can arrange them how you like is that true?
Thank you for the video. I am about to start online school and I'm debating between a Mac and an iPad. I have used a Mac for 2 years now it it has its goods and bads, I need a new device soon. I found your video just in time
im an apple employee and i am not being biased. i use this for my online class zoom meetings and webex for work and it worked smoother than my macbook air. it doesnt have the hardware like laptops but its definitely a close thing to a laptop.
I bought the iPad but I want Microsoft stuff but they aren’t free (like word, excel, etc) I’m using Office365 currently but it’s not as easy as the normal apps which aren’t free :(
Hi! I'm planning to buy a gadget for my online class and I'm an incoming freshmen, do you think this Ipad Pro is good enough since I can use it as a laptop and cp or should i buy a macbook ?
i would prefer buying a macbook if you're going to buy one! but it's totally up to you since the ipad is so versatile as well :) it also depends on what you're studying and the types of courses/assignments you'll have to do in uni!
Can someone help me? I’m starting university in a year, studying graphic design and I’m not sure to buy an iPad Pro or one of the newest versions OR a computer, anyone can help?
i would definitely suggest going into the apple store (if you can safely, ofc) to get a feel for each of the devices to see which one you like the most! honestly the ipad pro and the newer versions are pretty similar, so it's also a consideration of your own personal finances and ability to purchase it. i think a computer is still necessary due to specific softwares and programs that you may need eventually in your uni life!
Manny Li thank you! I mean I have a computed but it’s not a MacBook, so I think I could still use it with the iPad as a complement for my learning, thank you so much for the response!
I’m deciding between a 2020 iPad Pro with 128gb or 2018 with 256gb as they’re the same price. What’s your experience with the storage? Do you think I should go with the bigger storage? Or save money and get the 64gb.
i don't really think that storage is an issue (i have the 64gb) so i would suggest getting the smaller storage ipad. i regularly back up my files online though! if you like doing other things on your ipad (like using procreate or other high storage apps) then it may be worth it!
When you said that $999 was a lot of money for iPad Pro I laughed (🤣😭😭) cuz In my country it costs 3400 Lari which will be $3400 in america..... So what is much cheaper in another countries, it is 3 times more expensive for us 😭
@@khuloodhassan6091 I know, but "Salaries" are different in America and Georgia, for example, in the United States, if you're getting paid $ 2,000 for a specific job, you will be paid 2,000 Lari in Georgia. So in Georgia $1 is 3.7 Lari. This means that you will be paid 3.7 times less for the same job in Georgia. Soooooo.... Everything that enters in Georgia at the price of dollars, everything will be much more expensive (3.7x). So I said if America had a system like this, the iPad would be $ 3700 or more 🥶🥶🥶😪😪
I’m doing child development next year for my first year of college, everyone’s telling me I can just use pen and pencil but I don’t wanna use that I wanna use technology also cuz I’m able to save lots of money on myself anyways with good notes and procreate 😩😩 Im debating for the iPad Pro or 7th gen
I have an older Mac and I got an iPad and the attachable keyboard and pencil to go with it, but would you recommend I keep my Mac and hold on to it incase I need it- opposed to selling it?
Do you feel like your iPad is replaying your laptop ? I have a MacBook but I’m trying to figure out if buying an iPad is worth it if I already have a laptop. I’d use it mostly for school things like taking notes.
Amy Thoby honestly, I haven’t tried using as a laptop replacement. For me, the iPad is used for web browsing, drawing, taking notes, watching Netflix, and some light gaming.
Would you recommend it for high school? My only concern is that high school isn’t like university where learning is done through lectures, and quite often in high school, the teachers won’t let you have a device out while they’re speaking
You can use it insted of note books in some schools, but if you can't in your school, I'd recommend the budget one because you can learn on it at home just fine
can you help me???? Like my mother planned to buy me Laptop (not macbook ofcrs) but I want Ipad because its handy plus I want to take notes in there but really Im confused what to buy cause my first reason is that ipad dont have a usb for my big files. Im a senior high school student this year and its hard to have an online class plus I transferred. Please help me🥺
I got a macbook pro like 1.5 months ago but I honestly wish I got an iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard instead, since I'll be able to do digital art on procreate, an app that I'm used to and it's got a faster refresh rate (60 vs 120) as well as better framerates for gaming. My refund period has passed and I'm sad :(
I love using word on my iPad, why cant you? Also you don't think you could just buy an external keyboard if you don't like typing on the iPad? Just wondering!
haha i totally didn't realize that i could! but i usually use my laptop for a lot of other things such as other assignments so i think it's easier if i continue using it :)
Manny Li I think you have to pay for the 365 subscription, bcoz from what I know, you have to pay to use microsoft apps for devices bigger than 10.1 inch (the considered it as professional use), but the web version is free!
Hay beautiful!, this is the first time i see a video from you. i’m a new subscriber(: i realy love the way you talk you have so much confedance that i like!. thank you so much for this video i realy found it helpful!(;
for one of the cons you can buy a wireless keyboard and type on your ipad is basically it can replace a computer it’s doin to much buyin an ipad and a computer
I can’t decide I’m a gamer I have a gaming pc I’m in university and I use a MacBook Pro I have a phone to watch RUclips on when I want I have my laptop too watch RUclips on and do assignments and i was thinking that I should get an iPad Pro should because if I get it I would watch RUclips and do browsing or shopping which I also do on my MacBook so I can’t decide should I get an iPad Pro for some RUclips watching some browsing or other things just on a smaller device and keep my macbook just for school privately and not just it for anything else except for watching RUclips or shopping or browsing I can’t decide help me decide
The Apple Pencil is not the only stylus that’ll work with the iPad. I use a cheap stylus that cost $20 and it works great with it as well. No, it doesn’t have the touch to change from pencil->eraser thingie, and no it does not stick to the side of the iPad, but it does the job. Also you can buy a $10-$15 reg case on Amazon and there are keyboard cases as well for much more cheaper than $300. For most college students, the $309/$409 iPad would more than suffice as well. The cons that everything is expensive is ridiculous. You can do all that note taking and even video editing in the budget iPad as well. There was no need for you to buy the iPad Pro if you’re just going to complain about the price
Hey Can a ipad pro work as my laptop? I going to med school this year and i am not a heavy laptop user. Thankyou Edit:- also what's is cons of using ipad as laptop?
i’m stupid, i sold my iMac 2017 21.5 inches i5 chip 1T storage.. for a MacBook Air Gold 256 gb i5 chip.. i needed it for school, but i feel dumb.. someone please tell me if it’s worth it
what size did you get? and what size do you think is the best for class .... I am ready to purchase the Ipad pro just not sure what size to get. I have a Mac book pro, it's an old 16" but it's my rock, and its great as a marketing major with graphic design. I do plan to upgrade to the 13 inch Mac book pro or air for grad school (will not get rid of my 16" baby)LoL
As someone studying Law at University, would you recommend I get the Pro? I have a desktop with Windows that will be in my room but this is the thing I'll use for class and stuff
ahhaha i cant say 100% or not, just my own experience. ive loved having an ipad and found it improved my study habits as well as made school a lot more convenient this past year!
For psychology at University would you say iPad with the keyboard would be just as effective as a laptop ik, it's not 100% a replacement but in terms of doing work would you think it'll get the job done??
depends on what kind of psych you do! i had to do a stats psychology class that had a specific program that required a laptop, but otherwise i think just an ipad should be fine!

Hi hun i just found this video and I haven’t seen all of the comments but i would just like to say is if no one has mentioned it before. You can use word and other apps for essay taking on the iPad. ☺️
Essays can be done on an ipad, using the Microsoft word app or anything really, so it’s not a con for me, “ if i get to respiratory therapy next year I’ll be grabbing the air 4 “ but so far imma rely on paper this whole year.

I’ve been eyeing the iPad Pro... but am already graduating from uni this school year🤣 if I had known about it then I definitely would have gotten it when I was a sophomore/junior since my major has a lot of PDFs and online articles given by profs
Hi. Do you use an 11 inch or a 12.9 inch? If its a 11 inch, do you find it too small, especially for home learning? For home learning schools tend to use zoom a lot and there are multiple things displayed on the screen, such as the participants on the chatroom as well as the teacher herself... or if its 12.9 inch, do you find it too big and heavy to use it for other things like play games and watch youtube? Is it too heavy for a child who is like under 10 years old?

I love my iPad Pro absolutely love the battery life it’s amazing
Hence i kept my ipad mini 5 + Apple pencil with paperlike screen protector on.
I heard on a video that the 1st gen pencil was kind of bad and had a “greasy, nasty” feel. Is that true?
Is it difficult taking notes on the smaller screen? I chose the mini over the 7th gen because of the better tech specs but am worried about size. Any thoughts?
I'm actually on my last year of high school, do you think it's a good idea if I get one?
i would wait! i found that trying out pens and notebooks in first year gave me a good idea of why i wanted an ipad and what i was looking for in it!
@@TheMannyli - okay! Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it ☺️
@@TheMannyli I have a question. Why didn't you just buy a regular iPad or another version of it? A lot of people say that they like to take notes on an iPad, but I don't see why they would get a iPad pro if they are mainly using it as a notebook or for online textbooks.
@@jennypink7464 hahaha i think that decision mainly just stemmed from me wanting an ipad pro :) lollll
I found your video just in time
awesome!
So it turns out my online school doesn’t support iPads, so...
@@personontheinternet3867 my school requires us to use a ipad for our year but still debating if i should get it or not.
Can I use this for meeting? I'm planning to buy this for my online school instead of laptop?.
i think a laptop is still necessary for online school!
The iPad Pro is not really a laptop replacement
im an apple employee and i am not being biased. i use this for my online class zoom meetings and webex for work and it worked smoother than my macbook air. it doesnt have the hardware like laptops but its definitely a close thing to a laptop.
@@josiealm if you dont mind answering, is the 11 inch too small for online school as a main device??
@@aseroxmilez it is lol
I have iPad 6 . It can support Apple Pencil , too. I really love taking note with Apple Pencil . What is your iPad Pro model ?
i have the 2018 model!!
Manny Li , you have iPad Pro 3. I think so
I bought the iPad but I want Microsoft stuff but they aren’t free (like word, excel, etc) I’m using Office365 currently but it’s not as easy as the normal apps which aren’t free :(
dang it :( sometimes your university or school might offer free office365! i know for ubc i get a free subscription while im a student!
What? I checked the App Store and they’re all free?
Wendydova you’ll see they are free in App Store but once you download it , you’ll have to pay for typing in it
Because it fast, useful and very convenient
i agree :)
Nintendo
iJustine
Samsung
Go to reddit and look up what students in your major use
I’m deciding between a 2020 iPad Pro with 128gb or 2018 with 256gb as they’re the same price. What’s your experience with the storage? Do you think I should go with the bigger storage? Or save money and get the 64gb.
i don't really think that storage is an issue (i have the 64gb) so i would suggest getting the smaller storage ipad. i regularly back up my files online though! if you like doing other things on your ipad (like using procreate or other high storage apps) then it may be worth it!
Manny Li the base storage for the 2020 ipad is 128
When you said that $999 was a lot of money for iPad Pro I laughed (🤣😭😭) cuz In my country it costs 3400 Lari which will be $3400 in america..... So what is much cheaper in another countries, it is 3 times more expensive for us 😭
This is false. 3400 Georgian Lari is $1100... It’s practically the same price.
7th gen is a good starter it has all the basic things but the pro has the slightly better things
Thank you sooooo much for this video! I was just gifted a Macbook & wanted to know if I needed this for school.
I have an older Mac and I got an iPad and the attachable keyboard and pencil to go with it, but would you recommend I keep my Mac and hold on to it incase I need it- opposed to selling it?
yes!
I bought an iPad Pro a few weeks ago and I don’t regret it. I’m gonna use it for school along with my laptop.
nice!!
I just got an iPad Pro and this helped me a lot, this video is like one from a 200k+ subs channel thanks!
Would you recommend it for high school? My only concern is that high school isn’t like university where learning is done through lectures, and quite often in high school, the teachers won’t let you have a device out while they’re speaking
honestly i think an ipad won't be as beneficial in high school.... prob only uni!
You can use it insted of note books in some schools, but if you can't in your school, I'd recommend the budget one because you can learn on it at home just fine
I do use microsoft word in mine, and I have a 2017 pro. It's slower though and I prefer to just use my laptop and use google docs instead.
good idea!
can you help me???? Like my mother planned to buy me Laptop (not macbook ofcrs) but I want Ipad because its handy plus I want to take notes in there but really Im confused what to buy cause my first reason is that ipad dont have a usb for my big files. Im a senior high school student this year and its hard to have an online class plus I transferred. Please help me🥺
Ooh you can always buy a USB adapter for iPad but as an iPad user it’s not as reliable as a laptop or MacBook.
@@musmmuus7955 omoo thank you🥺
I got a macbook pro like 1.5 months ago but I honestly wish I got an iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard instead, since I'll be able to do digital art on procreate, an app that I'm used to and it's got a faster refresh rate (60 vs 120) as well as better framerates for gaming. My refund period has passed and I'm sad :(
you could try selling on other websites like facebook marketplace or ebay!
@@zaviherawanwhen you go to uni in Belgium, they give you a free office pack, maybe in other countries they do it too, I’m not sure.
@@oliwaaa7982 My school did that too fortunately.
@@zaviherawan so if I have a free office pack, do you think an iPad with keyboard and Pencil will be enough? I will do criminology next year.

i realy love the way you talk you have so much confedance that i like!. thank you so much for this video i realy found it helpful!(;
for one of the cons you can buy a wireless keyboard and type on your ipad is basically it can replace a computer it’s doin to much buyin an ipad and a computer
Imma just keep watching unboxing videos and tips for using it until mine arrives..
can you facetime on the split screen?
yes!
I’m pretty much in the same boat
No lie.. I wish I had an iPad when I was in school 😭
Thankyou
Edit:- also what's is cons of using ipad as laptop?
I just bought the darn thing like 2hrs ago and I was going to get the pencil but $120! Whew 😅 I was like okay next time for that lol
i’m stupid, i sold my iMac 2017 21.5 inches i5 chip 1T storage.. for a MacBook Air Gold 256 gb i5 chip.. i needed it for school, but i feel dumb.. someone please tell me if it’s worth it
personally the portability of a macbook air makes it worth it for me!
Hey! Quick question, What's the book you were reading on the Kindle app?. I paused it to read a little and it seemed interesting. Thx in advance
it's "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegie! :)
@@TheMannyli thanks!
The 2020 11 inch iPad Pro is $799 probably cheaper on apple education website for the base model
This was so helpful. I'm planning to buy the iPad 8th gen because it is the cheaper option, but I was wondering if you think 32gb is enough for notes?
i find it's enough but i regularly back up my ipad and clear my files when the school semester ends!
Wow thank you for this video! I’ve now decided to buy a macbook first. ❤️
With classes meeting via zoom, do you think an iPad Pro can be used for school?
hmmm... it definitely can be used; i used it for one of my online courses this summer and it was still great!
Manny Li thank you so much for replying! Feeling a little better about my purchase!
Base on your experience, is buying a hybrid laptop is more helpful than buying ipad or macbook?
Wait, Microsoft word doesnt open on the iPad Air?? 😱
it does! i didn't realize when i filmed this
my ipad was given as a gift so idk why I’m watching this but I’m watching it anyway haha
I have a gaming laptop so it doesn’t have a great battery life, instead of buying a new laptop should I consider the new iPad Air that just came out?
depends on what you want to use it for but it definitely sounds like a good option!
@@TheMannyli I want to do software engineering, so will it be worth to do it. Btw thanks for the reply
what size did you get? and what size do you think is the best for class .... I am ready to purchase the Ipad pro just not sure what size to get. I have a Mac book pro, it's an old 16" but it's my rock, and its great as a marketing major with graphic design. I do plan to upgrade to the 13 inch Mac book pro or air for grad school (will not get rid of my 16" baby)LoL
i have the 11"! personally i think the one i have is the perfect size as many lecture desks are actually pretty small at uni.
@@TheMannyli THANK YOU,,,, so glad some one heard me (figuratively ,,, LoL) I’ll check and see how that feels
Thnx Manny ,,,, 🤗 so I’ll see how that size fits ,,,!
As someone studying Law at University, would you recommend I get the Pro?
I have a desktop with Windows that will be in my room but this is the thing I'll use for class and stuff
honestly the regular ipad/ipad air works as well but the pro is just nicer and a bigger screen!
@@TheMannyli I'm the kind of person that wants the best lmao, so I'm really leaning towards the Pro 😂

@@TheMannyli Oh cool lol, but youd 100% recommend I get the Pro for my Uni Law degree?
ahhaha i cant say 100% or not, just my own experience. ive loved having an ipad and found it improved my study habits as well as made school a lot more convenient this past year!
@@TheMannyli I'm going to be a criminology student, is an iPad enough for that? Cause I wanna write down my notes but also type them with the magic keyboard, I don’t think I need the programming and that kind of stuff, so will an iPad with Pencil and keyboard be enough?
ayee girl u luckyy! may i know how u save money? i m trying to save money to buy ipad pro and and apple pencil then some other important stuff 😭🥺
don't spend more than you earn and always save at least 20% of your income and put it in your savings immediately!

im getting the ipad pro 2021 m1 for school soon

Essays can be done on an ipad, using the Microsoft word app or anything really, so it’s not a con for me, “ if i get to respiratory therapy next year I’ll be grabbing the air 4 “ but so far imma rely on paper this whole year.
hey I wanna ask, what ipad are you using? u literally said its ipad pro (in your title) but I found out the cameras aren't like ipad pro 2020? can you please tell me the specifications of your ipad since u don't tell in this vid. thanks anyway!

haha im sure the ipad would definitely be useful in work life as well depending on the career you wish to pursue!
Is it too heavy for a child who is like under 10 years old?
i use the 11 inch! i don't find it too small as i also have a laptop to use as well :) so my ipad is just used for note taking during online classes and my laptop has the online class
