Hey thank you so much for the feedback! Oh by the way, so it's been a while since I uploaded this video. In the near future I'm gonna be upgrading to a full frame sensor camera! So yeah, I'm excited to play with that as well as 4K editing too
If you have not, set the camera aperture to the lowest setting. Like 2.8 I’m kind of new but that is something I learned. I use to have the rebel 7i and now I have the Eos 80d and the R6 MII
Thank you for the detailed video. I just recently enrolled in college for Photography, trying to find accessories before I go big and pay a lot on attachments, etc. Very self explanatory.
Good video. You probably know this, but in Red Giant has a fisheye fixer preset that auto flattens footage into regular looking video. I'm new to the world of lens converters, but I like the idea of spending a lot less money for about the same quality. I also have a T7i, great camera.
No idea why so many dislikes on this video... shows what it does, shows how it looks. I just bought a cheap Vivitar wit ha step-up ring for my Lumix G7... trying it out... it was only $12. We'll see.
I have this. I’m after taking photos with it. Looks grainy on the background, not sure if I’m a fan yet. The fisheye and wide is what I’m looking for so that’s a plus.
Thanks for the video, I think the reason that you have less boka is that using this wide lens is effectively changing the focal length, in your case 24mm X 0.43= 10.34mm. since the boka is controlled by the changing the FStops (Aperture) and the Fstop is function of focal length, your maximum Fstop is reduced by also x0.43. Makes me wonder is that's why I can't find cheap fast wide lens. For me it's not a big deal, because I might use this wide lens for landscape with small aparture to get everything InFocus. Thanks.
It looks good, I'm sure there are plenty of good lenses that won't distort though. For the boka effect, you can play around with your aperture settings :)
By play around you mean set to the lowest number possible. Bokeh does not come from an artistic perspective but a frantic need to get as much light as possible for a fast shutter speed in low light conditions.
I'd recommend the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 over any wide angle fisheye lens. Back your camera further away on a different tripod or any alternative camera mount.
the wider the lens, the more depth of field you will have, which will reduce that shallow depth of field. You would have to walk up closer to a wide angle lens to see the shallow depth of field.
No I completely upgraded my entire camera set. Switched to Nikon Z6 with 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8. There is a more recent video on my channel regarding that upgrade
Yeah I tried it without the macro on it. But the macro is what gives it the wider angle I'm looking for. It's just that the fisheye effect is a take it or leave it unfortunately :/
However, I did end up solving my problem. I didn't want to sit back farther because I'd be too far away from the mic which would cause echo and poor sound quality. But I ended up buying a cheap boom pole and now I can sit back farther and everything is good! 👍
This Altura Wide Angle Lens 0.43X convertor is OK for the EF 50mm f1.8 lens For 24mm f2.8 lens I would get a Canon Branded 0.7x or 0.75X Wide Angle Convertor (if I do not want fisheye effect.) I got a 75X used for about $40 from an ebay auction. I also have a better quality single element VIEWO 58mm 0.7X wide angle convertor lens which is ONLY compatible to the 18-55mm IS STM lens. 18-55mm x.7=12.6-38.5mm
A steal for the price. I guess the reason for the price is the fish eye effect that no one wants, but it is not so bad. I might get it just for that extra amount of visible background when needed.
Looks like were gunna have to spend a bit more for what were lookin for. However, I would like to see this lens on the 50mm. The bokeh on the 50 is much stronger
its a shame that they use different size filters. Theoretically this would reduce the 50mm to 21.5mm which sounds very usable for up close. Im guessing on an APS-C it would be 30mm which is less than his current effective focal length on that 24mm without the adapter. i wonder how insane the bokeh would be with this setup. They are "cheap" but having to buy one for every lens is def a bummer.
I have the same exact Altura .43X Wide Angle lens I got for Christmas. My camera is a Nikon d3300 with a lens that is a AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. Why won't my macro lens focus but the fisher effect piece does?
I want actually a wide angle and a fish eye lense for my camera, for a trip, so maybe that effect is good for landscapes and not for this kind of videos, probably better to use to shoot some landscapes, architectural monuments or stuff like that? , My lense has become somehow older and doesn0t focus well, do you think if I buy this, will help me improve my actual lense focus and let me get better pictures? I am thinking of buying this, cause i don't want to spend lots of money on a new camera or a new lens, and i think i could give it a try, the quality is good? What about the macro lense that comes with it, i it good too?
I agree that fish eye works for landscapes. And some indoor shots too but it depends what exactly you want to shoot. I do think for talking head videos like what I do probably best if I don't have fish eye. Idk what camera or lens you have but you can always buy the lens and try it, if you don't get the shot you're looking for you can always return it.

Hi Haurjie, thanks for providing this info and your experience with this attachment. I’m watching your video in late August 2020 and was curious to know if you ever solved your problem. I’m using that canon 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 but it does not produce the bokeh effect we all desire. I’m switching from a crop sensor canon to full frame canon soon and will be slapping the 24mm on it. This combo should give me more FOV than it does on the crop sensor camera. I may add this Altura attachment to it and that was the reason for watching your video.
Hi Max, thanks for the comment. I'm actually surprised how much engagement and views this particular video got. my channel wasn't and isn't even focused on camera gear haha. To answer your question. I did end up solving my problem but it was because I had upgraded everything since this video was uploaded. Im now a proud owner of a Nikon Z6 with a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 S prime lens. I want to tell one more negative point by watching the video the chromatic abbression is really poor as it is a cheap lens you see the blue lines on the right side white camera equipment locker
I'm brand new to this and can anyone tell me why I'm seeing the inside of the lens when I attach a .43x wide angle or a 2.2x telephoto lens to the lens that came with the my Canon T7i? It creates like an iris effect, as if you were looking through the hole of a length of pipe.
@@hardlinenexus I don't understand how it can be usable then. The walls of the lens are in the image making a black iris with the image in the center like a porthole. This is normal?
hey dude,.. the best lens for the wide view, i have a 77D which is the better of the T7i.. the lens I've got is the 10-18STM..its great for does cameras..get it bro its nice
Yeah, the sensor of the camera doesn't matter. Because this goes into the lens of your camera, not onto the camera itself. You just have to make sure the threading is right.
This lens is actually an EF-S lens, designed specifically for cropped censor cameras. For a full frame camera you will need to look for an EF lens, there actually are a couple of 24mm EF variants; an f/2.8 IS and an f/1.4
Hey there, great video! I just got this altura lens and I have the 24mm and 50mm also for my Canon though I couldn't get it to attach, how were you able to do that? I had no issue with my 18-55mm. Thank you!
Hey Madison, thanks for the comment. So you also have to check the threading. This Altura lens is made with I believe three different threads. So you have to make sure you selected the right one! It comes in 52mm, 55mm and 58mm threading. I believe our Canon lens is the 52, but double check before you buy!
@@hardlinenexus got it thanks. Have a crop sensor 50 was trying to use this to get a wider angle but with no autofocus I think I need to invest in a 35mm.
Just get a 50mm with a low f stop. And if their cheep their crap. Shoot Nikon but sigma makes a lens for booth that's 17-55mm that would probably do what you want. Look up a camira store some well let you rent equipment and try it before you buy it
Your camera body is a crop sensor. You will get a wider angle look with other lenses if you could use a full frame body. You don't need to buy a new camera either, by any means.
Haha thanks for the info. Good to know for next time. Also been a while since I've uploaded this. I've already upgraded to a 4K workflow with my Nikon Z6. I've made a video on that as well
Hi! Helpful video in my search for an affordable wide angle converter that doesn’t clog up the corners of the image. You may be able to reduce the ‘curves’ at the edge of your image in your video editing software. Most programs have a ‘fish eye’ function to give any pic or clip a fisheye look that will also work in reverse; so reduce fish eye look. You will ger more background blurr (bokeh) when shooting on lower f stop values. ‘Wide open’ is best for shallow depth of field.
its not bad,for me it looks good,i also have that lense and i attach it to my 18-55mm canon lense coz i dont wanna spend more money lol,i have also have 24mm and 50mm canon lenses like yours.10-18mm canon lense is perfect to get a wide angle shots it will cost you about lessthan 300$,but its worth it for one time investment,im not a pro but i listen to everybodys opinion and most vlogger use 10-18mm,im good for now hahah, instead of buying a lense,i bought a gopro hero 7 black lol, check me out too, tnx.

I'm not a huge fan of the fish eye effect. Thank you I was going to buy this on Amazon but thanks to you I won't. Now I've made up my mind I'll be buying a micro lens
Cool video. I’d say get a wide angle lens. Say a 11-17 tokina for you. It’s a great lens for a crop sensor.
🇨🇱Very good information thank you very much for this small and great contribution, I am creating the same converter for my canon and your help was very useful greetings from CHILE 🇨🇱🍀✨👍✌️🙂
Any suggestions on what I should get as my first camera?
Any of the canon rebel series are good for beginners. I recently purchased a canon rebel T6 and love it
Jessica Geraci sweet, thanks
I want to tell one more negative point by watching the video the chromatic abbression is really poor as it is a cheap lens you see the blue lines on the right side white camera equipment locker
I'm brand new to this and can anyone tell me why I'm seeing the inside of the lens when I attach a .43x wide angle or a 2.2x telephoto lens to the lens that came with the my Canon T7i? It creates like an iris effect, as if you were looking through the hole of a length of pipe.
I don't have a telephoto lens as I only used this on a wide lens. But what you're seeing is a fisheye warping effect.
@@hardlinenexus I don't understand how it can be usable then. The walls of the lens are in the image making a black iris with the image in the center like a porthole. This is normal?
I bought one but can’t detached the macro lens. Tried too hard
Are you sure you got the right thread? You should check your camera lens. If you screw on the wrong thread you could damage your lenses
@@hardlinenexus I got the right one and can use the wide angle feature but it says can use as macro lens as well but I can’t detach the macro lens
hey dude,.. the best lens for the wide view, i have a 77D which is the better of the T7i.. the lens I've got is the 10-18STM..its great for does cameras..get it bro its nice
Thisis can be used on full frame camera?
Does it autofocus? With it on?
No, the autofocus is on the main lens of your camera (assuming your lens has AF). This is just an attachment lens to that lens.
@@hardlinenexus got it thanks. Have a crop sensor 50 was trying to use this to get a wider angle but with no autofocus I think I need to invest in a 35mm.
Will this fit on a cannon T7i 800D ?
It's not a matter of if it will fit in the camera body, it's a macro lens for your lens. Check the threading on your lens.
Just get a 50mm with a low f stop. And if their cheep their crap. Shoot Nikon but sigma makes a lens for booth that's 17-55mm that would probably do what you want. Look up a camira store some well let you rent equipment and try it before you buy it
Canon ef s 17 55 f2. 8 lens great overall
Have this lens! Love it! Use it for landscapes.
Fish eye effect does make it look kind of weird
Yeah not really something I want in my videos
Great
Thank you!
I've made a video on that as well
Great video. Very interesting
Thank you so much for the feedback. I appreciate it!
For what you're looking for probably cost more.
needs more fisheye
wow. nice video :)
thank you :)
its not bad,for me it looks good,i also have that lense and i attach it to my 18-55mm canon lense coz i dont wanna spend more money lol,i have also have 24mm and 50mm canon lenses like yours.10-18mm canon lense is perfect to get a wide angle shots it will cost you about lessthan 300$,but its worth it for one time investment,im not a pro but i listen to everybodys opinion and most vlogger use 10-18mm,im good for now hahah, instead of buying a lense,i bought a gopro hero 7 black lol, check me out too, tnx.
Awesome man thank you for the insightful comment. I know this will also help other people who are looking for the same thing abd understand what they are getting.
