    I don't get the whole 'Warrior stole Sting gimmick'. They wrestled together as a tag team for years with face paint on?

    • @copeenthuisiast5453
      @copeenthuisiast5453 8 лет назад

      Yea but they almost had the same gimmick. Sting was this young facepainted goodguy and so was warrior

    • @explosionsandstuff7787
      @explosionsandstuff7787 8 лет назад +45

      They "almost had the same gimmick" because they developed it when they were tag team partners. When the tag team split, they just kept the gimmicks they already had. The only influence the WWE had in Warrior's gimmick was the entrance music, and changing his name from "Dingo Warrior" to "Ultimate Warrior."

    • @MrRukale
      @MrRukale 8 лет назад +5

      ..but they didn't have the same gimmick. The only thing similar, as you pointed out, was the face paint. Literally nothing else was anywhere close to either of them.

      you're right about that. Warrior started with WWF in June 1987 while Sting began with WCW in July 1987. Their popularity was basically simultaneous. So these guys are really reaching on this one.

      Both created by WCW creative. Btw I never watch the early 90's but there was a group that succeeded the 4 horseman and preceded the NWO. The Dangerous Alliance. Anyhow I think they tried to copy the 4 horseman by creating Bret Hart's faction the Hart Foundation.

    Ryback is not a ripoff of Goldberg. They're attires and wrestling styles are completely different. Just because they're both bald and jacked, doesn't make them similar.

      @smartboy201 8 лет назад +2

      They're similar, but not identical; I think that's the best way to say it. And while both COULD have been identical, what with Booking being the ones to decide to keep Ryback as a midcarder, I feel like Ryback actually has more that can be done with him than Goldberg ever had; Losing adds a lot of long-term options - particularly with storytelling - compared to an embellished winning streak, made to only be a winning streak, until it ends.

      Right. Paul Heyman brought over the stars. Eric Bischoff bought the cruiserweight stars from ECW and put them on a bigger stage. Thus, he usually gets the credit. Vince copied the idea of the division with the title from WCW.

      They do have history together, and had been wrestling in face paint for most of their careers at that point, but it was specifically New Generation's Surfer Sting face paint that inspired Warrior's.
      I love Ultimate Warrior (you give a buff guy cocaine and tell him to talk about spaceships and I'll be on-board), and even I admit that's where the face paint idea came from.

    Just a word of notation. the big gold belt cameback during the wwf-wcw invasion angle. I have a suspecting feeling that the title might comeback yet again as the smackdown world title when they do the brand split. The only reason they got rid of it in 2013 was because they dropped the brand split gimmick and had raw and smackdown super shows more frequently. There was no need for two world titles when both champions appeared on both shows.

Goldberg main difference he did it to Hugh Morris and no sold the moonsault. I agree, I usually like the lists WhatCulture Wrestling has, but this is probably the worst. Most of them are stretches, too, DX and nWo were fairly dissimilar, nWo was about running roughshod and taking over, while DX was about being irreverent guys sticking it to the WWF. Starrcade may have been the earlier supercard show, but it certainly was not the spectacle WrestleMania was. Thunder, while debuting a couple years earlier, was tailor-made to be a horrible show due to the contracts WCW signed with their top talent such that they never showed up on it, whereas SmackDown featured the same talent as Raw, so that's a bad comparison too, and I could go on about the other stuff. About one of the few things the video got right was the cruiserweights, and WCW stole that from ECW, so they're not exactly pioneers either. More research please, to whoever penned this video, step up your game....

      True, that would be more fair. I'm not a WWE fanboy, I used to watch WCW back in the day - didn't have Nitro live in Canada at the time, I think TSN carried it late night then occasionally (or the next day), but I did catch Thunder more often, and I liked it for what it was, but there was a reason WWF/E won the War, they ended up with a better product, and pushed new talent instead of burying them.

      It is well researced and not just an opinion. Pro wrestling innovations did not begin with WWF in the mid-1980s. Many fans like myself have been watching wrestling prior to that time and lived through much of what's talked about in this video.

    • @oeoaa
      @oeoaa 8 лет назад +21

      These are stolen gimmicks. Many of us who have been watching wrestling prior to the Attitude Era of the late 90s can attest to this. WWE/WWF did not orginate the annual supercard event or pay-per-view concept. WCW/JCP did closed circuit broadcasts before WWF. Piper, Junkyard Dog, Greg Valentine, Hercules Handendez and many other future WWF stars all got started in Mid-Atalantic or World Class, both NWA promotions. Hogan was hired from the AWA. You have to have lived history or know history to understand where all this originated. Many wrestling innovations did not begin with WWF in the mid-80s, sorry.

    • @oeoaa
      @oeoaa 8 лет назад +8

      This is not to slight Vince McMahon, who deserves credit for his marketing and business saavy, and ruthlessness, in turning pro wrestling into a mainstream attraction in the 1980s. He saw the future of pro wrestling, which was no longer only religated to the then 30-year-old territory model. That he deserves credit for, and he used much of WCW/JCP and World Class concepts to achieve his vision.

      +Marcus Schulz agreed. Vince wanted to buy WCW for $55M in the late 90s & Bischoff laughed him out of the building
      Hard to believe Vince was able to purchase WCW for barely a fraction of that 3 years later after the AOL-Time Warner merger despite how deteriorated their product had become
      WCW was still worth hundreds of millions of dollars...the WWE's slanted retrospectives don't really help bring light to the situation either

    • @Marveryn
      @Marveryn 8 лет назад +3

      revisionist history indeed. WCW numbers toward the end are close to what wwE is doing now. The main difference is the USA still wants WWE. Time warner were looking to unload there wrestling company like it was a bad habit and gave them nothing to support it. When they sold it they didn't even give the new possible owners a tv deal. So who ever bought the promotion had to find one right away which is what kill the buyer group that was form to take over. Vince who just wanted the video library and take advantage of the situation took advantage of an already establish deal that allow him to purchases the company if there were no immediate buyers. Since Vince didn't need the tv deal all this became history.

Like how do you compare WCW's low PPV buys to the WWE network?

      I totally agree. I watched Nitro more than Raw. I preferred their way of presenting the product. Everything from the entrance, to the lighting, the ring and commentary. etc.

      That's why McMahon has put litterally EVERYTHING on the line, cause WWE could have gone bankrupt by the Takeover - something that a lot of People do not know.

    You all forgot to mention that The Ultimate Warrior and Sting was a known NWA tag team in very early 1980's despite that it's an off-topic fact of the video it still would've been great to hear you guys mention that

    One Warrior and Sting used to be Tag Team partners before either became famous. Two Warrior was using face paint long before he showed up in WWE.

      Maybe there's a chance, but have you seen the new talent coming from NXT? WWE still got another 10 - 20 good years left. Especially, with Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, Apollo Crews, and many more

    • @trololodex
      @trololodex 8 лет назад +1

      Shirogami they misuse the talent week in week out, so much potential lost, and so much potentil will be lost. Despite having an awesome roster, only a few of them are in an actual storyline. Randy orton? WTF? xD

      There most likely won't ever be a viable competitor to wwe. And things wont improve a ton until Vince retires/dies, as there is not going to be any competitor. The issue is, when Vince steps down, how it seems right now, Steph and HHH take over. But as HHH is handling NXT, and its absolutely amazing, i have some hope WWE can be better under Steph and HHH then Vince. I kinda wish Shane was going to take it, he has a great head for business, too bad vince kills most of his fantastic ideas (ECW being web only and gritty, buying UFC, Making WCW a new brand under shane and a few others.)

  • @Head318Hunter

    If it wasn't for wCw lighting a fire under Vinces ass AND giving Vince ideas to steal. There'd be no Rock, Stone Cold, HHH, no DX, no attitude era. If it wasn't for wCw then Vince would still be pumping out characters like Doink the Clown, Nails, I.R.S., GoldDust, Sparky Plug, Viscera, Hornswoggle, Scotty2Hottie, Shane McMahon, Puke, Uncle Elmer, Tugg Boat. Those are the type of characters you WWF fans would have had instead of Rock, Austin, HHH. Thanks to the innovative minds of Bischoff and THE REAL Triple H... Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
