Considering you’re not training for this, it was incredible. Your cardio volume for a strongman is immense. Hybrid athlete for sure. CF championship favors shorter people.
Mad respect for not giving up and moving through the whole thing after you missed your goal time. That workout is brutal for people carrying half of your muscle mass.
Great job on this workout! Just a heads up, the Linda standard for the DB bench at all the semi finals was each rep HAD to start at the top. I know this is a dumb rule but it ended up being important for certain athletes and it means that you one rep short every round in your version of Linda. Not sure that it would have mattered much just thought I would mention it. Next you should try the original version of Linda where the weights are determined by your body weight: 1.5 times body weight deadlift Body weight barbell bench 3/4 body weight squat clean
I wonder how Mitch would go if it was proper Linda not semi final Linda 1.5 times body weight deadlift Body weight barbell bench 3/4 body weight squat clean
It absolutely does. Work done = force x distance. Increase the weight, you increase the force required and hence increase the work. The weight and work would increase by around 50%, which is far from negligible.
It would most likely take him hours. Assuming he's 320, The 160 pound dumbbell presses would prob be the hardest for him. 480 deadlift would prob be easy, not sure about the 240 clean.
CrossFit is what I do 6 days a week I love it so much I modify workouts but I do all those movements at lighter weight CrossFit is so much fun highly recommend trying it at least you can modify everything if you need the coach is your friend tell them what you can’t do and they will give you other ideas and will he,p you teach you
I also know the feeling of a workout with your CrossFit buddies that seems easier than the soul crushing experience it turns out to be. lol you did great Mitchell.
Sir you are the best thing to happen in strongman since Big Z. You are so talented and intelligent. Please, consider giving us some tips on improving our Linda. How to improve our front rack. Etc. Why not try an obstacle race next? A mudder or the like? I think you could prob design an entertaining strongman obstacle race. You should do some Wim Hof with Stoltman, cause you are from colder home than me.
Dude, in all of your CrossFit videos, you handle them doubting you so well. We both know that if you wanted to be the best at CrossFit, you would be… kudos to you
watching this video is insane! After each set you're like, "okay that's where he stops." And then he'll go and do another. Mitchell you have to have the highest cardio out of any WSM in the past decade.
I thougt is was proper Linda as it said in title!? Wiki says that Mitch weighs 320lbs/ 145kgs. So that would be : Deads with 480lbs/217,5kg Bench with bodyweight Squat cleans with 255lbs / 115kgs
Thiss is amazing. Nice one. I think you can go quicker. For the squat clean you caught it upright. You want to catch the bar as you make your way down. Like your jerks… get under the bar quicker. But amazing! It will take me days to do.
Just needed a better strategy. Could tell you were in for a world of hurt when did first round in a minute. Well done for sticking through it, still great time just could have made life easier by not going out so hot at the start. Crazy as well that youre able to muscle clean into squats, thats what ended up taking all of your energy.
i reckon the cleans would've been, at least slightly, less tiring if they had been actual cleans and not upright rows+front squats. that being said, this was still incredible to watch. also, my old rugby strength and conditioning coach is in the background of this video, that's so cool!
The actual WOD is 1.5 bw dl = 472 Dl bw bench press 315 ( giving you a break) and a 243 squat clean. Not even close to a true Linda. But what do i know. I'm just a level 1 CrossFit instructor, but a huge fan of strongman. Mitch work on your cardio as this was a scale down workout.
I agree. I've done both as well, and while I think "Crossfit training" is harder than "MMA training"; for sure "MMA Fighting" and even "MMA Sparring" are harder than "Crossfit Competing". What surprised me the most was how much harder MMA is than grappling or striking alone! I thought MMA would be Striking + Grappling; but it's more like Striking x Grappling!
@@sensam6155 So true. In grappling atleast it's easier to "cheat" and rest when you're comfortable, knowing there won't be someone trying to take your head off everytime. lol I've sparred SW with crossfit maniacs and after 5-10 minutes of rolling they'll be tired out of their minds because they're tense. Before that tho, usually is like fending off a gorilla.
@@mitchellhooperstrongman Keep going brother.... I've been an observer for a very long time. You are an exception to the exceptions... Just don't get injured.
Reminds me of my Training for Mma Days ours would be either 30mins without stopping or 1 hour I had such great cardio Even though I weighed 265lbs. My Trainer(Uncle) Told me every heavy weight is strong but most of there cardio sucks so I wanted to be Able to go Hard as long as I needed to.
Was anybody else yelling at the screen telling Quadzilla to DO SKWATZ! ? I've been out of the gym for three weeks on an injury. When I go back, I'm doing this. I'll be sure to post up my three hour time when I'm done, since I don't think I can rack that front skwat at .75bw (130lb). Gonna have to unload, high bar rack the bar, reload, do a rep and repeat. 🤣
Can you do a video about perform enhancers and how prevalent steroid use is among strongmen. I feel like most people are pretty unsure about it’s role and would be cool to here your rake
He would be the first one in all these years. Would cause all sorts of havoc from many angles. Someday maybe somebody will. For now, don't ruin it for the kids.
I would assume all strongmen competing at the highest level in the sport are on gear. I’m sure some take more than others and use different compounds. I just don’t think anyone could be competitive at this level without performance enhancing drugs. Plus, there is no testing.
Pause at 6:25 I'll make a prection now. Mitch seems to be wearing down, i don't think 10 minutes is in the cards. I'm going to call it 10 minutes 45 seconds.
With his Muscle mass his body will be screaming for Oxygen and lactic acid will start building up fast. This makes it twice as hard for him as he’s burning through Oxygen and Energy reserves really fast.
I did 18:30mins. you did better than me. but the weight isn't what I'm expecting.i thought its heavier for you. it has to be 100%(body weight)bench, 150% deadlift, and 75% clean.that dumbell doesn't look like your bodyweight
Considering you’re not training for this, it was incredible. Your cardio volume for a strongman is immense. Hybrid athlete for sure. CF championship favors shorter people.
Yeah, light weights dor Mitch but this quickly becomes about cardio. I think 165 reps. I've been known to really gas on 12 reps of squats.
Yep, 165. For countdown sets, the total is n×(n+1)÷2 where n is what you start at. So for countdowns from 10, it's 10×11÷2=55. Three of those is 165.
When you look at him in size comparison to the people he competes against in strongman dudes really a freak of nature.
Sure thing, he on gears.
Mad respect for not giving up and moving through the whole thing after you missed your goal time. That workout is brutal for people carrying half of your muscle mass.
Probably because the weight would be twice as heavy. A guy half his size might have better cardio but he’s going to have half the strength.
I have watched a lot of his videos and it amazes me how good of an athlete he is at anything he tries. Keep it up.
For Mitch, it was definitely an endurance battle. Keep up the amazing work.
Not the typical strong man look and fitness standards great job 👏

I think the weight does not really matter in such an event when you are that strong.

It's cause they are cardio not strenght so it becomes borring easily
Those cleans at the end are seriously brutal. Most normal people would be out of breath after doing that many front squats in a row, let alone cleans.
I love the grit and curiosity of this dude. His content is A1.

The fact you can turn around after a rest and do 900/400/500 of 1’s is insane. Love Eddie and Shaw, but I promise they couldn’t do this in under 20:00

That was exhausting to watch.
wasted too much energy on the negatives, i think she has the right idea
What determines the weights used?
So each dumbell would be half your weight? So if your 300lb its 150 each hand?
I can't do 115 lb dumbbells. Can I please go based on my "If I wasn't fat" bodyweight?
