It was such an amazing experience to have played with John. I miss him.
Such sad news! I'll be spinning some Band X today. RIP John...
* John Goodsall will be remembered and his music lives on. R.I.P.John 🎸
RIP John Goodsall- great musician
What a shame. One of the greats. Gone but not forgotten! RIP.
A very good tribute Pete. I will listen to some Brand X and Nice And Greasy by the 'Rooster. RIP "Goods".
His playing was fast and fluid. Just legendary. RIP
Very, very sad. Saw them five times. Shocking indeed. RIP John.
Thanks Pete, RIP to one of the greats, I had the pleasure of seeing Mr.Goodsall meant times. He will be greatly missed, this one hurts.
Such a sad loss, I was lucky enough to see Brand X live in 2017 and meet John and Percy Jones after the show. RIP 🙏🏻
Been a fan for 30 years, and those 70s albums are just killer.
RIP John
Just before heading to sleep last night saw the posting of this video. Sad news, indeed. Really appreciate you taking the time to post these episodes, Pete. RIP.
A brilliant and fierce fluid player whose rock and fusion licks mixed so perfectly with Phil’s unbelievable percussion - I didn’t see this one coming, my sincere gratitude for his gift that he bestowed upon us, he will be missed.
Lords Of Atlantis, the self-titled Fire Merchants album, Nuclear Burn, Do They Hurt, Missing Period & Manifest Destiny are great legacies to leave behind. RIP
He was a huge influence on me. So sad. RIP John and thank you.
We sadly lost both fusion greats (John Goodsall and Pat Martino) within one month. I remembered meeting John at Progfest '99 in San Francisco a day after Brand X's awesome set and wow what a sweet guy he was.
RIP John....you inspired me, in fact the whole band inspired me. the solo on Nightmare Patrol will be in my head forever
Great loss!! I saw brand x twice in the early 80s. Amazing guitarist, fantastic band!!!!!!!!!!!!
I only heard Brand X recently, since discovering them on the in the prog seat videos.
I’m very sad to hear of this news. Mr Goodsall was an absolute killer on the guitar & was always a pleasure to watch him play
IMO doesn’t get the credit he is due as a killer player
Had the pleasure to meet him & chat for 5 minutes at Daryl’s Place in Pawling NY
Very nice man who was nice enough to chat with a fan
Thank you for all the incredible music & my sympathy to his band mates in Brand X
RIP 🙏🏻🙏🏻🎸🎸
There are no bad Brand X albums. RIP John Goodsall.
Like Bruford they were miscatagorized by the record companies and it hurt record sales. They were Progressive Rock not Jazz
Lovely tribute.. Great guitarist ❤🎸💔
What an amazing guitar player and a huge part of the Brand X music, such a sad loss. I'm a big fan of John Goodsall and his playing, he'll be sorely missed
RIP
Gutted... Had tickets Brand X announced some rare shows in England May 2019 was going to get to see John and the mighty Percy Jones for the first time, cancelled for obvious reasons rescheduled a year later but cancelled again... and now we have lost John... Great tribute Pete and agree he was a monster player often overlooked...
Same situation. I had got myself a ticket at Trading Boundaries next year and thought finally I would get to see them. Such a shame.
@@justindyer83 Yeah Trading Boundries for me too, a shame indeed!
Thanks Pete...I watch and listen to all your and Martins stuff...Brand X was amazing and Goodall was above the cut@@@...thanks again
"Isis Mourning " and "Euthanasia Waltz " are two great tracks on "Livestock " that show his amazing talent and versatility and still sound fresh after 45 years. A great loss.
Sad to hear this.

Thank you for this tribute, Pete. I am happy to have seen and met Brand X in 2017. RIP John Goodsall.
Shocked… just saw them thankfully just before the silly lockdown.
A friend of mine knew him well, and apparently had lots of struggles with drugs back in the day, though not recently. It wouldn’t surprise me if he suffered debilitating consequences thereafter.
Great guitarist. He will be missed.
I loved his guitar tone when he’d used the Roland Space Echo and envelope filter.
Although we weren't exactly mates as 5 year olds John and I knew each other way back then alright! RIP Mr G.
Thanks Pete. I loved his playing so much!
my condolences.
Picked up Unorthodox Behavior and Moroccan Roll this past summer in Tennessee havent left my turntable since. RIP amazing player
If you pick any 3 more 🆙 I would get "Masque"'78- "Product"-'79-"x communication"-'92.imo would go perfectly next to the first 2 you have imo.
@@rickweigle5559 Thanks I'll check those out!
@@logancollins7097 To me also Nuclear Burn, Manifest Destiny & Missing Period. Can't go wrong with any of these records really
Nice to know that I'm not the only one that is missing the great John Goodsall. I just learned he did the guitar solo on Billy Idol's Rebel Yell. A very underrated guitarist as well as a great guy!
Time to break out my Brand X vinyl. RIP John
Im not familiar with his work but condolences to his family and may he r.i.p
If you like instrumental jazz fusion rock, check out Brand x first 5 albums'76-'83,and you'll be familiar, and appreciate great musicianship and talent,I revisit these often, being a instrumental jazz rock fusion fan.
@@rickweigle5559 Also the two Fire Merchants albums
@@wolf1977 Thanks for letting me know I'll be checking out for sure.
Actually,I have to include'92s"X communication"definitely worth having IMO.
Brand X is my favorite of the early fusion/jazz-rock bands. Probably not a popular opinion but I put them above Return to Forever and M-Orchestra. They were totally unique, quirky with a sense of humor, and they had Percy - the very best bass player of all time (sorry Jaco, your second in my book). RIP John G. This truly marks the end of Brand X. What a run.
Can't quite go that far, especially since I heard the other two bands much earlier so they influenced me early on in the mid 70's to get into fusion. That alone means they hold a special place in my mind. Percy Jones was an absolute monster player (I like Entwistle more but he's right up there). Check out his more recent work with PAKT & the older Tunnels
Wow! Someone else feels the same way I do!!
Great tribute Pete. Thanks 🙏
Never nice to hear about someone passing but, on the positive side, one of the magical things about music is that these talented people leave behind a legacy that can bring joy and fascination to future generations for a long time to come.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard any albums John played on but Brand X has been on my “Check Out” list for a long time now, I’ll give some of their albums a listen very soon.
Thanks for your tribute Pete.
Thank you for this. A great loss to us all, and hard to fathom the the lack of mention in other media.
Cambodia….great example of his genius.
One of my all time fave Brand X songs.
My first love of fusion was Brand X. Goodsall was a giant.
They were progressive Rock
How strange...I just bought a Michael Des Barres album featuring John Goodsall yesterday-had no idea he was on it...Rip...
I'm Only Human from 1980? Very punkish new wave sounding, not my thing. Sounds totally different from everything else I've ever heard Goodsall play on
@@wolf1977 Yes, that's the one. Very 80's and not very guitar-oriented, but still decent.
My concert to see these guys in Boca Raton was postponed 3 times due to Covid. The latest postponement was of their Sept 30th date. Very sad.
I remember he said in a interview he never listened to other guitar players because he didn't want to get influenced so he could have his own style. During a tour he was doing those 64th note solos and got severe tendonitis and couldn't play for awhile. I wonder why he never made any solo albums
I started buying Brand X albums in the 1970s. Unlike a lot of 1970s fusion records, they have not really dated. Goodsall was a great guitarist but he never got the acclaim he deserved. His family has asked for donations to pay for his funeral expenses. I would have assumed that Phil Collins could have chipped in a few bucks.
Oh no. R.I.P. John. 68 isn’t really young, when you hit your 60’s it’s up in the air.
I'll be 63 in March, and I have learned the importance of counting all my days. And I know what awaits me after I pass away, which puts a smile on my face 😁. Thank you John, and RIP. And thank you Lord!
@@katesjanice nobody really knows what awaits them after they die, it’s just wishful thinking, but I’m glad you are aware of your own mortality, that helps things.
@@sspbrazil Millions & millions of people on this planet know exactly what will happen & where they are going after they die. So you sound quite silly when you say, "no one knows." And please don't buy into or judge Christianity based on most televangelist garbage. Go straight to the scriptural source & find out for yourself. If you haven't studied the scriptures, then you have nothing to contribute to a discussion about this topic. It would be exactly like discussing or criticising music and never having listened to it. And it just cracks me up that Pete always highlights the atheist responses to my comments. I can count on it. He may know a lot about music, but nothing about what Christianity is or what it teaches. And he'd be quite surprised to know just how many of the musicians that he so reveres are believers too.
@@katesjanice those millions and millions of people don’t know then because not one person on this planet knows where we go when we die as there has never been one person to die and ever tell anyone where they went, if you are honest you would say I don’t know, but I would like to “believe” there is a place we go after we die, the truth is we don’t know and if you go beyond that you are just deceiving yourself to make yourself feel better. I’ve got nothing wrong with finding comfort in believing you think you will go somewhere after you die, I just think it’s just dishonest to say to others this when you don’t actually know this for certain and with unequivocal proof that has never once been verified by anyone who has died, why are you pointing to only Christianity? There are other religions with other beliefs, I’m not sure one religion is better than another nor has the answers over another, it’s just a belief system you were raised with or follow because you would rather be given an answer than experience the unknown out of fear of not knowing, I am perfectly ok with not knowing and being honest and saying “I don’t know” what happens after I day, I like surprises anyhow 😊.
@@sspbrazil I'm very sorry for you. I've read the Ayurvedas and the Koran and studied world religions in addition to the Talmud, the Hebrew scriptures & the NT. Have you? If the answer is no, then as I said, you have no knowledge to contribute to this conversation. So please stop spitting out garbage you know nothing about. Thanks.
American combined with British fusion band.
I believe he was from Minnesota
I think he was born in Florida, moved to England, relocated back to the US and has been living here for quite a while.
@@seaoftranquilityprog actually Pennsylvania I got him confused with somebody else.
I know he was living all over the place through the years.
Fantastic guitarist to the average rock-and-roller he remained unknown for the most part.
I enjoyed Brand x they were very cool
He'd been living in Minnesota for the last few years.
@@chickenlampbrent oh ok I knew there was a Land O'Lakes connection up there
@@truckerkevthepaidtourist He had a strong London accent and was a good mate. We all miss him and regret letting life get in the way and not being in touch more often lately, it had been a couple of years since we talked and now he's gone. I can still hear him greet me with, "Oi, guvner!"
Not Brian Lumley its Robin Lumley
Dig.
Are you going to boc dec 11
I open to, yes
That should say I 'hope' to...
@@sotdude7 see you there
Between John and Pat Martino, it has been a bad month so far.
They never got due credit. Sad.
alot of great musicians dying this year, what is going on 🤔🤔
