I agree. How could she not know that he was depressed? He lost 2 important people in his life within weeks of each other. I could tell from the ride in the car that he was in anguish. I hate that people don’t understand that men have feelings as well and can take loss of loved ones just as hard as women. We as wives need to be there emotionally for our husbands. They deserve and need that.
She sees in him her grief. I hope she’s learned that berating will never fix depression

The wife is so SELFISH! It’s all about her 🤦🏾♀️ I can’t believe she made his daughter feel responsible for his pain! They both need intensive therapy.
I think the wife does not understand that her husband is suffering from depression and grief. She believes he needs to snap out of it. But once she was told what he is dealing, it appeared she understood.

She may be less knowledgeable about depression, but she also has the full emotional weight of the miscarriage, caregiving for two children under age 2, a service profession with clients to serve, a strained father-stepdaughter relationship, custody litigation regarding that child, and an emotionally unavailable spouse.
Both of these people deserve empathy and support.
@@LawFirmMentor Yes, I agree some does not have as much empathy for her as they did for him. They both are grieving, but it shows up differently. Despite, the day to day task they both are faced with, they both see that each need their own counseling to address their own issues and then they both can show up as the best version of themselves.

Thank you for taking up for the daughter, Tracy. It’s not a child’s responsibility to fix the relationship. It’s the parent’s responsibility. Therapy is needed. Consistent therapy.
Berating that girl for not calling and blaming her for affecting their marriage was wrong. I’m glad she checked the parents. They seemed to understand.

Stop on therapy on going 100 spot on! My bro went thru this same thing with a baby dieing but no therapy and they both turned on each other blame! Therapy needs to be apart of death- divorce - any major life changing moment ( offer 4 sessions)!

I thought the same thing. For most of the episode, she was not my favorite person. At. All. But as the show progressed, they showed insight on her thoughts and emotions. Even though she was 100% wrong on multiple things, I now feel for her.
At 14, SHE IS A CHILD! It is beyond unfair of both of them to put their relationship failings on a CHILD! If she doesn't call you, you're the PARENT DAD, it's your responsibility to chase and fight to be in your CHILD'S life.
As you can see everyone else are adults. So they’ve decided to go to the weakest link “a child “. They’re just plain old narcissist. It’s all about them. Shame on them.
The wife’s energy in the kitchen toward her stepdaughter was toxic. That child sat there and cried while her Aunt and Uncle did nothing. She’s not protected in that family and that’s sad.

The wife saying he is having mental breakdown, is counterproductive and she gets to blame him for everything. She seems to relate to him as though he’s her child.
It did appear to be a mother child relationship but her mom did the same so the wife only mimic was was shown to her! Cute couple!

Tracy is always so spot on. I love how she holds the couples accountable for their BS. The energy feels off on this one from the time they were in the car. The constant berating and correction would drive anyone insane.

It’s called empathic confrontation, it’s a unique skill of helping the client to see their problematic behavior or beliefs without putting them on the defensive and encouraging the client’s resistance. Seems passive but it a skill.
This is a powerful episode. I wish all married couples saw this. Honestly, working with married couples like this, should be a whole other show!

Losing your mother changes you!
It definitely does. And when that happens you need supportive people around you that will be there for you when you’re grieving. Not people that tell you to man up, you’re not acting the same, you still crying etc. I don’t get why people don’t understand this. Also, the circumstances in which a loved one dies makes a difference. My Grandmother died in 2022. She was 88 years old. I think of and miss her everyday, but I was at peace because she was 88, she deserved her rest. My mom died in 2023 from stage four uterine cancer. I watched her die a little every day. The last few days of her life were very traumatic. So I’m not grieving the same. It’s very very hard to go on each day. My anxiety and depression are through the roof. I have to make a decision to lean on God everyday just to keep on keeping on.

I feel bad for him. He definitely needs therapy. But he never raised his daughter and blamed the daughter for not reaching out to him. She's a child, and he was a stranger to her. So, he has always had issues.

I love the fact that the family is rooting for them. This was an awesome show and an example of what black families need to deal with their trauma.

If she’s not calling her dad, the dad needs to reflect on why the dynamic has ended up that way. HE is the parent, HE sets the tone for their relationship as father and daughter!

This is the comment I was looking for!!!!!! The doctor should have sent her away to take her moment and let Josh continue to explore his feelings. The wife made that moment about herself as he was starting to express himself.

This episode was a rollercoaster of emotions. I truly hope they work on themselves individually first and foremost . I commend them for putting their lives out there in this way because we don’t talk about grief depression and anxiety as Black people enough even with all the progress we ve made with talking about mental health over the years . I like how the therapist never missed an opportunity to correct and call out things out for what they are .

The wife’s lack of compassion plays a huge role in this dynamic. She’s blaming everyone else. But is not understanding how everyone else feels.
I think overall they are a good couple. Grief, trauma and depression can wear and tear you down. Mentally, emotionally and physically I hope that are able to work through it and get back to their happy place. They both look so sad, because of the trauma.

This episode was hard to watch. Wow. So many layers to peel back. This was sad. Josh looks defeated and his wife is annoying as heck.
Not having the tools to effectively communicate is the root of it all. The fall out is dire.
They are ignoring the 14 yr feelings and blaming her.The stepmother words on top of the Father’s is crazy. I think Maya’s mom needs to make sure her Daughter is emotionally safe from them. They are too broken .

The groom seems to be more in tune with his wife's kids than he is with his own biological child, they may need counseling to build a bond and get to the bottom of their trauma.

I easily see why the 14 year old isn't around I'm glad they had a 1 on 1 and he apologized it's clear he hasn't grieved and he holds it all in because he doesn't feel comfortable enough to let it out because she doesn't let him and it effects him physically the black community has to be more open to seeking help it's okay to go to therapy
