  • In this video of the After Effects Fundamentals series, you'll learn how to use mattes to control where a layer is visible. Mattes are similar to masks but they’re a separate layer. This opens up tons of creative possibilities to cut things out, create unique shapes, add textures, and make complex animations.
    In this video:
    0:55 Find Matte Options
    1:51 Create a Matte
    3:18 Animating with Mattes
    4:29 Alpha Mattes
    5:54 Luma Mattes
    8:08 Sharing Mattes
    9:05 Preserve Underlying Transparency
    11:13 Matte Each Other

I wasn’t able to find a good tutorial uploaded recently but thankfully I got this as it explained everything perfectly..school of motion had one but was pretty fast paced..
Just one doubt or perhaps suggestion, the preserve transparency option where u made a purple box, maybe if the box was of a different colour it would have made it easier to understand because it got a lot confusing for me what’s the box doing actually… but yeah overall it was a great and a very helpful tutorial. Thanks.
