    OMG, How timely was this video as I’m on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and my left hearing aid stopped working. Went through my typical diagnostic check, tried removing the wax guard, changing the batter and clearing the rubber tip, all to no avail,! Time to return to the shop. Might be the heat and Southern humidity. We know moisture kills,

    Thanks for another more “technical” video! I’m in the very beginning stages of Audiology school & still loving these videos

    Once again a great video and one all hearing aid pros should see if they don't have a "test box". I need to get CostCo to run this test on my Philips because like your test subject, I know they are are not working right, lots of bacon frying noise and distortion and feedback all of a sudden. I am buying a Widex from another place, an audi, and will ask about test box when I pick them up. The Philips will become my backups. Thanks again.

    In a follow up phone call to my an audiologist after a hearing aid exam, I asked if test box measurements were conducted best on Dr. Cliff's Best Practices but before I saw the video. She said they are redundant with the Real Ear Measurements and their center does not even have a test box. I was speechless and now, after seeing this video, should I run the other way? She answered other questions to my satisfaction for the most part.

    Does your Hearing Care Provider perform Test Box measures?

      If you receive your new hearing aid in a package that appears not to have been unwrapped, can you assume that your provider has not tested it?

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  4 года назад +1

      @@jssheff I guess that would be a fair assumption. Always ask to see a copy of Electro Acoustic Analysis before going home with your hearing aids.

    What type of repair did you perform in the example? Did you open it up and do a deep cleaning or did you actually perform electrical repair - or did you send it in? I'm picturing you as a medical professional with a soldering iron - looking through a microscope at the electronic innards of the instrument - and it is an oddly intriguing image.

      Most likely the receiver or service exchange module was replaced.

      Hi Alan, with that particular instrument, it required a replacement of the receiver and professional grade dehydration of the device.

      Sure, what are you specifically trying to measure, because there are different variations that you can use to show different things.

    I am very disillusioned with hearing aids. Have tested Resound, Phonak Marvel and now own Phonak Nathos Auto SP (on loan free from uk NHS) as well as 2 Oticon OPN S3 latest model. Still cannot hear TV properly and need subtitles all the time! Tried to contact you via your website about your test and reprogramming prices! I have severe HF loss !! Last 5 years have been hell with my hearing!

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  4 года назад +1

      Hi Tim, performance with hearing aids depends on a variety of variables including your residual hearing ability and how the devices are programmed. Is your intent to come to Arizona for me to treat your hearing loss?

    • @timsmith5980
      @timsmith5980 4 года назад +1

      Doctor Cliff, AuD If you can DM me on FB messenger or Twitter @squawk2003 and give me your email there I will send you a pic of my approximate Audiogram so you can let me know whether I will ever be able to hear properly with the Oticon OPN S 3 and give me your price for getting the best performance! I was told by one Audii that I didn’t have a lot of residual hearing left while another large uk Oticon chain Audi told me the Oticons would let me hear again! My speech discrimination is poor, my volume is poor and my hearing in noise is zero when measured with special software!

Would you have any knowledge or contacts that I may be able to reach out to so I might be considered a subject for the experiment ? Thanks for ant info you may be able to provide , Vincent Sabatino Sr.

    I have a few questions, if you can please answer them, I'd be very grateful :)
    Did you manage to test echo in comfort on audeo marvel m90 yourself and what's your opinion of it? From what I've gathered, that feature can't be reproduced by other settings, right? Since I need only one HA, m70 covers all my needs (some things work only on 2 m90), except I can't find proper information about this cancelling echo feature.
    Another one, can I get same results with m70 + roger pen or even better than m90 alone could do in a museum or similar reverberating environment? Or echo feature of m90 is the top of the line for such environments?
    I saw in target sw that you can set up mic + roger, however from what I see it's only one program for it? So for example if I have roger pen for 1on1 in doctors office full of glass and select for restaurants, they will both use the same program, right? :/ I mean, there's no way to have one program for ha+pen and another for ha+select? Or I'm wrong about it?
    Disclaimer: I live in Germany but don't have good vocabulary, so I'm digging around in English (also not my native language) and have target to help my provider and me help me get the most out of the HA. We're cooperating in finding best solutions :) oh and he's the first who does REM that I've met. Will check your whole list with him, I think we did a bunch already :D
    And last, proposal, can you share tips and advice for us like you (if I understood correctly), who have loss (but not deaf) in only one ear. I can't find good/easy way to for example, have streaming call to both ha and my good ear without HA and similar. How do you cope? How do you utilise technology to serve you best? Do you just use two HAs and use all features that come with binaural setup, but one HA is without the prescription?

    If a new hearing aid doesn’t meet manufacturer’s specifications, it would be considered defective and swapped for a replacement right? Can’t believe that nearly 20% or repaired hearing aids don’t meet manufacturer’s specifications. Yikes. Is that important though if it still measures correctly suing a REM test? I know my hearing aids aren’t being used to the full potential since they can treat hearing loss more severe than mine.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  4 года назад +1

      Even if you meet Real Ear Prescriptive targets, it does not mean that the hearing aids are meeting manufacturers specifications. Performance with hearing aids depends on residual hearing ability and how well your hearing aids, assuming they are the correct devices and meet specs, are programmed.

  • @mindaugasr

    Most of the hearing aids don‘t meet manufacturer’s specifications after 2 years of everyday use.

    Oh, what a dream it would be to get a new car and only 12% of the time did everything on that car work perfectly. Better still, what a beautiful dream it would be to only have to return to the auto mechanic but 18% of the time. Nirvana. :-)
