Who will make it to the CFB Playoff?
No one in the acc deserves to be in the playoffs, that conference is a joke
First Things First: Cris Carter and Nick Wright The playoffs is corrupt by the ESPN/SEC how in the world is LSU STILL in the top 10 after getting crushed, Florida 15th with 2 straight losses, Purdue not ranked after beating 2,16, and Boston College who’s 17th come on man. Mississippi State ranked with 3 losses. This committee is the worst ever. OSU will get back in, watch. But the committee already has their agenda in.

1) Name me FIVE teams that would have a 7-2 record so far with LSU’s schedule? Alabama makes anybody look overrated. They’d beat any current team in the Top 10 by a larger margin. Getting beat 29-0 against Alabama doesn’t mean you’re not a Top 10 team. It means Alabama is just that good. The committee sees the talent in LSU, they’re still Top 10 worthy. I mean, Ohio State lost by 29 against Purdue and were still in the Top 10.
2) Florida is a decent team. They may not be elite or great but they’re not bad. Being ranked 15th is good. Washington State lost to unranked USC, Ohio State lost to unranked Purdue, Oklahoma lost to Texas, and WVU lost to unranked Iowa State. I’d take a loss to Florida and a loss to Alabama over all those losses.
3) Yeah, lets focus on Purdue’s wins and not their LOSSES! They lost to Northwestern, Missouri, Eastern Michigan, and Michigan State. 3 out of those 4 teams are unranked. Their wins might seem impressive but losses are always taken into consideration.
4) Miss State statistically has the best defense in College Football. The committee saw that as impressive.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Florida beat LSU and that’s it, who else? Alabama just beat LSU and that’s it and you all of sudden think they can beat everybody in the Top 10 based off what, the LSU game? So if they loss they get a pass with that weak schedule? Bama is elite but is not judged like the rest of the country who has been tested on the big stage more than once. ESPN/SEC don’t have to feed fans this garbage and corrupt this system with their bias language. Purdue changed QB after those losses and your going to tell me that don’t matter? When those teams they beat are still ranked. The teams LSU beat of some importance are now unranked, but that don’t count right. The change Purdue wasn’t blown up like Bama had injuries before the playoffs but it’s ok you go anyway or Clemson didn’t have Kelly Bryant to finish the game against Syracuse who didn’t win another game after that but it’s ok we’ll forgive that. OSU loss to Iowa in the beginning of NOVEMBER!! and they began their campaign for a non conference champion with a weak schedule and lost their last game after they beat mercer, come on man. So losses don’t mean the same for every team and that what’s sickening about it. You wouldn’t hear nothing from me if it was consistent across the board but dude this committee might be the worst in this 5 year era.

I'm a Texas fan and I had no problem with the horns down or showing the ball at the goalline. Any whining about that is just snowflake mentality. The Mountaineers just made a few gutsy plays and managed to beat us, it happens.

Just like he did last year with the SEC and then 2 SEC teams ended up in the playoffs and natty, oh he forgets to mention he's paid by the big 10 which he should preface his argument with when he references computer polls because there are other teams (like Kentucky, Iowa, or Penn State) that are obviously overrated too but he has a narrative to push that the ACC is overrated and the Big 10 is being undersold.

Samuel Smith Med he does two about how the B1G ranks compared to the computer polls. Last ranking the B1G was the only conference ranked lower on average than the computer polls.
All the teams that are grossly overrated by the CFP committee play in conferences that have network partnerships with ESPN.

Syracuse to me is Underrated. 7-2 on the season, won 3 straight games and nearly beat Clemson at Death Valley. Also scoring 43.3 points per game this year which is 8th in the nation. I don't see how they are considered overrated. I like Joel Klatt but I think Analytics don't always tell the story.
I was thinking the same thing. They're 2 or 3 plays from being undefeated. They were beating Clemson in Death Valley with less than a minute left in the game. They lost at Pitt in OT, and Pitt is now leading the ACC Coastal. They also have a very experienced and good senior QB, and an excellent pass rush. I think they've already shown they can compete with anyone. If Joel thinks the ACC is so terrible, and Syracuse is overrated, doesn't that also make Clemson extremely overrated? Either Clemson sucks, and Syracuse is overrated, or Syracuse is legit.
Never mind the fact that Joel was on The Herd just this week, saying how Syracuse is a threat to Notre Dame. How does he think they're a threat to Notre Dame, if they're overrated at #13?
I just don't think that Syracuse has beat anybody this year that is close to being an impressive win. Their most impressive game was a loss to Clemson. Didnt they only beat Memphis by 1 point? I could be completely wrong and they could be legit, but i think we'll find out vs. Notre Dame

If the gap in talent is this big among the elite teams.. the rankings become irrelevant. Just group teams in tiers. And have automatic qualifiers for conference champions for the playoffs. With one "play in" game. Everyone stopped caring about bowl games a long time ago

Clemson and Oklahoma are the only teams with the offensive firepower to keep up with Alabama. No debate. Michigan statistically has a top 5 defense, but could they hold Alabama to 25 or under???

TheDaringPastry1313 Oklahoma is garbo they only won by 1 point over OSU and won against army in overtime, both of which are unranked teams. They also haven’t beat any ranked teams and will get exposed by West Virginia.
It would be pretty crazy if Bama went 12-0 and was knocked out by losing to a top 5 team in the extra Week 14 game while Notre Dame sits at home and stays undefeated. If that happened and we were comparing 12-1 Alabama to 12-1 Michigan for #4, everyone would want to give it to Michigan because of the conference championship, but considering Notre Dame doesn't even play in a conference it is tough to say how much conference titles overall should be valued when determining who makes the playoff. But of course Notre Dame is not only undefeated but they also beat Michigan head-to-head so of course they are staying in. I don't see Georgia beating Bama, but it is a very interesting scenario to play with as it brings up some interesting questions about how we evaluate teams. I personally think we overrate conference titles, because not only are all conferences unequal, but the way we determine who plays in them with how divisions are set up makes many conferences championship games easier than some regular season games.

Love Klatt, but he kind of made it seem like Texas had the ball at the 40-yard-line with :18 left (and the wind). When in reality, the kickoff happened with :16 left and Humphrey returned it to the 40, with :09 left. Pretty big difference. I still didn't like the play call (hail mary), but Texas only had time for two plays max. With :18, they could have potentially had three plays and a field goal.

Frozilla15 Florida was the perfect recipe to beat LSU. LSU doesn’t have a consistent offense and Florida’s defense is top tier. LSU beat Georgia by 20. All the Alabama LSU game showed was that It’s Alabama, then everyone else.
LJ Wells. The LSU game (and Miss St as well) also showed that Tua's injury could impact Alabama's season going forward. Tua's completion percentage & passer rating have plummeted since his injury. With Hurts injured as well, the SEC Champ & CFP won't be the cakewalks everyone seems to be still expecting. If either of those 2 can't play more than 3 qtrs, then Alabama better hope their defense can hold their remaining opponents scoreless. SEC fan.

The only path to the natty for UCF is to play and win against the three big boys in their state. Before Alabama brags about how great they are play somebody in your non-conference games for a change. Schedule OU in Norman, Ohio State in Columbus, Georgia in Atlanta, Notre Dame in South Bend and Clemson in Death Valley for alternating year home games. When Alabama is beating those teams during the season instead of cupcake teams then they can brag. Clemson's schedule is weak also. They should do the same. Quit scheduling weak non conference opponents. Teams ought to be ranked on wins and strength of schedule. Somebody tell St. Nick that please! Alabama and Clemson should have started the season ranked 19 and 20 based on their strength of schedules. The SEC was also weak this year so Alabama really hasn't played anybody good yet this year. LSU always has a good defense but no offense.

That is a big IF. Auburn actually lost to Tennessee (which is a really bad team) and they are having all kinds of trouble this year.
Conference Championship teams are not always "the best" in their conference. Because it is never "apples to apples". Alabama would have to lose 2 games before their knocked out...
because CLEARLY, a 1 loss Alabama is STILL much better than the other undefeated or 1 loss teams... that's not even a discussion. So Bama gets past Auburn, the SEC Championship means nothing. Expanding to 8 teams would be a DISASTER... imagine ALL the cry babies who would have 2-3 losses screaming that they belong in...that could be all 21 teams!!

@@1969chgoodwin As Klatt says, no 2 teams from same conference this year. Assuming Bama, Clemson and ND win out then a 1 loss Big 10 or Big 12 champ is in. Ohio State will get selected over Oklahoma and West Virginia because they will have beaten No. 4 Michigan. Also it is likely Oklahoma and West Virginia play each other twice at the end of the year. If they split then Big 12 champ has 2 losses.

If Alabama, undefeated but losing a close game to Georgia in the SEC title game and possibly being left out of the playoffs would be a travesty. Why, because you ridiculously can't have again these two SEC powers in the playoffs? Insane.
That is what makes the NFL so much better than NCAA CFB. In the NFL, winning results in championships. In CFB, winning doesn't hold much weight at all unless you are in one of the "chosen" conferences. UCF can go undefeated for the next 10 years and they still won't get a shot at a title. That goes for a lot of teams.
UCF doesn't play a decent schedule. They let Memphis put over 500 yrds on them in a 1 point win , that same Memphis team had 65 dropped on them by Mizzou, they let Temple out almost 700 yrds on them. And those are their best wins .try playing the big boy schedule instead of one even a bottom dweller from most conferences could win 10 or more in
Chris, I totally hear ya man. I am aware of the comparisons. But it still doesn't change the fact that UCF and other great G5 schools can win all year long and it does not increase their chances of winning a national title. Therefore a shot at the national title is not earned by winning (unlike the NFL and all other sports) it is earned by "strength of schedule" which is opinionated and full of hypothetical assumptions like ("this" school let "that" school put this amount of points on them, therefore they would lose to "this" school). The rankings in college football are not matter-of-fact. They are wishy-washy and hypothetical. Don't get me wrong...I like college football a lot. I am just hoping for a better system to come in the future.

Pete Carroll flunked out in the NFL. Went to USC and became a legend with 2 AP National Championships. Went back the NFL and won a Super Bowl. It can be done.

If Georgia wins the SEC:
1. Clemson (13-0)
2. Georgia (12-1)
3. Alabama (12-1)
4. Notre Dame (12-0)
(12-1 Michigan gets left out in favor of Alabama who has better wins and a better loss). PAC 12 and BIG 12 also out if 12-1 conference champions. LSU best road win and Georgia the best quality loss.
If Alabama goes undefeated:
1. Alabama (13-0)
2. Clemson (13-0)
3. Notre Dame (12-0)
4. Michigan (12-1)
That 29-0 win over #3 LSU on the road seals the fate of Alabama in the CFP unless they lose 2 games. It also opens the door for 2 SEC teams if they both finish 12-1 (Georgia wins). Michigan needs to support Bama winning out.

Depends on how Michigan beats Ohio state. If Michigan shows they are the better team against Ohio and not just squeak by, then they will get the nod over bama with no question, cuz otherwise the system is rigged.

I think it would be a closer judgment call than that and would depend almost entirely on how many Alabama opponents would be ranked in that last poll. Michigan would have wins over Penn State, OSU, Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin. Bama would have wins over LSU, A&M, MSU, Auburn. Michigan would have lost to an undefeated team on the road in the first week (12 straight wins after that). It would be a really interesting debate.
And I say all this as an Ohio State fan.
