      When Kelly Bryant quit on Clemson and decided to transferred....why didn't he stay and fight for the starting position? Immaturity, ego? (I'm a bama fan living in Clemson) To be great....you have to fail first...

    Imagine an 8 team playoff this year:
    1. Alabama vs 8. UCF
    -they wanted Bama? Give them Bama
    2. Clemson vs. 7. Michigan
    - two of the, supposedly, best defenses in the country facing off
    3. Notre Dame vs. 6. Ohio State
    -two of the most historic programs in college football going to battle
    4. Oklahoma vs. 5. Georgia
    - the “most deserving” vs. the team that may have been better but had 2 losses
    I’m not saying that 8 teams is the answer, but it would make an extremely fun bowl season.

    • @timl4326
      @timl4326 5 лет назад +7

      Billy Goodwin ya but is Michigan really worthy of a shot at the national title? The playoff was created because there was an argument during the BCS era that the 3rd or 4th teams deserved a shot at the championship. You can’t argue the 7th team in the country deserves a shot at being the national champion

      I definitely agree it would make for a better playoff. Unfortunately, it also has a lot of unintended negative consequences. Just a short list:
      1. For people already complaining about meaningless conference championships, this only makes it worse.
      2. The bowls outside the NY6 are already struggling for notoriety. This pushes them even further into the background.
      3. It makes the discussion for who's in vs who's out a lot less compelling. Also, the line between 8 and 9 tends to be way closer than between 4 and 5.
      4. Lots of years, the 1 vs 8 isnt that interesting. It would be this year, but likely still a stomp.

      Dionne Kyler has more yardage, more touchdowns, a LOT more rush yardage and touchdowns while also racking up more throwing tds. Everyone uses the fourth quarter argument but take away kylers fourth quarter and they’re still better. Plus, he has a high qb rating and completion percentage. And if OU had a defense he wouldn’t be playing fourth quarters either that’s not his fault. He’s so much more fun to watch

      james warner Haskins May prove to be better long term but right now he’s not. All the games that they almost lost and the one they lost he folded when pressured and hit. I think the other two handle that better bcuz of the foot speed and I think Tua is a better thrower right now. For me a big sign was Penn State. He got pressured a lot and played poorly so they switched to mostly screen throws and allowed their athletes to create plays in space . He will for sure win the Heisman next year tho.

      I agree with him 100%. Last year the Number 1 SEC team was Georgia. The number 2 SEC team was Auburn. This was determined on the field, where it matters. In not even qualifying for the SEC championship Alabama essentially became a 2 loss team. In order to slide Alabama in they had to skip over the number 2 team and grab the number 3 SEC team. Joel argues that losing your conference's championship disqualifies you and I would agree with that. So Alabama and Wisconsin are out. Ohio State had 2 losses, so they are out. Which leaves UCF for the number 4 slot. In beating Auburn (aka the team that put on a clinic for Alabama) they showed that they belonged in that game.

    The committee got the four right, but that was an easy decision. The real crime was ranking, Florida, Penn State, and LSU ahead of Washington State when the Cougars absolutely should've been in the New Year's Six after a 10-2 season. Penn State doesn't even beat the Cougs in the eye test, LSU did not play well late in the season, and Florida just lost to an 8-4 Missouri team at home. WSU's one bad loss is a well-publicized case of horrible officiating that cost them the game.

    • @brian2440
      @brian2440 5 лет назад

      Zack I would say the bigger crime is putting Michigan in front of UCF, after OSU was considered worse than UCF.
      Then OSU destroys Michigan, and apparently the last ranking was total bs because then Michigan was ahead of UCF.
      Then Michigan doesn’t even play and UCF wins again, but they’re still behind Michigan.
      There’s no explanation for that other than G5 vs P5.
      If you’re gonna say injuries then why is Alabama #1 and not behind Clemson after losing Tua?
      If you’re gonna say SOS ok yes Michigan’s is higher, but so was OSU’s and they were ranked behind UCF, so why didn’t SOS matter then?
      There aren’t any head to head other than both teams beat SMU- UCF won by more.

    Love how Joel doesn't give bama credit for the entire season. They were by far the best team in the first half of the season and only Clemson looked close to as good down the stretch. Every other team struggled in at least 1 game. If we are gonna start judging teams by bad halves (as vs the Citadel) then pretty much no one meets that standard. Bama ends up winning by 33, and thats playing an option team after you just played 2 teams that finish ranked in the top 20 and before you play your rival. Lets forgive OK for every struggle like Army, OK St, Texan Tech and Kansas. Thank god these guys aren't scientists because we'd all still be living in the stone age with this level of reasoning.
    And Nick Wright, UCF fanboy, points to bama's schedule? Bama played 4 teams that were better than anyone UCF saw. We can all agree UCF is amazing for what they are. Don't ruin it by pretending they belong in the conversation.

      Bama was just as good in the 2nd half of the season, shutting out LSU and Mississippi State, beating Citadel 50-17, and Auburn 52-21. They had a bit of a letdown in the 1st half against Citadel after coming off the LSU and Mississippi State games, but they quickly recovered and dominated in the 2nd half.

    • @clay1678
      @clay1678 5 лет назад +3

      @ Randy Jordan I Bama made some mistakes on offense in the LSU and Miss St games, but those are probably 2 of the top 5 defenses in the country. And I would agree that Bama was still as good in the 2nd part of the season, but Clemson played way better after the Syracuse game - granted they played a much, much easier schedule down the stretch. I tend to think the Georgia game was 75% Georgia playing really well and 25% some Bama miscues; mostly due to how good Georgia had looked since their loss.

Murray played against a Texas team with a total defense ranked 68th. Haskins played a Northwestern team with a total defense ranked 62nd. And Tua played a Georgia defense ranked 13th. The same average LSU squad that beat Georgia in the regular season by three touchdowns? Craig Walker I get your point, but as an Ohio State fan, they kept throwing because they couldn’t run the ball and the games were still close- he didn’t have as many no stress throws as Tua did, and I feel like if every voter would’ve waited for Championship weekend, Tua would’ve lost the Heisman this weekend, not because he got hurt, but more so because he struggled while he was in, I think Kyler will win it because everyone knows for a fact that he will be gone next year and Haskins will most likely be back, and I believe Tua has to stay another year, but Haskins has kind of be taken for granted by everyone, him and Kyler have comparable total yards, total touchdowns, both being on teams that you have to outscore opponents, it’s just that Kyler gets those insane highlight worthy runs whereas Haskins just sits in the pocket and tears you apart, but all three have had fantastic seasons and I don’t think Tua will be all that hurt winning a National Championship and losing the Heisman possibly to the guy he has a chance to eliminate in the first round of the playoff

      Harry Garris I agree in that I think Kyler should win, but Tua’s performance wasn’t as bad as I originally thought. His receivers dropped four passes - one a TD, the other 39 yards. Also, he suffered a high ankle sprain in the first quarter, so that definitely affected his performance.

Tua's really good, but Kyler clearly has to do so much more for that Oklahoma team to have any chance of winning. Harry Garris Yeah. I think we both agree Murray slightly edged him (although my teams are Alabama and Stanford). I’m just not holding the SEC championship against Tua. They should’ve put Hurts in earlier; Tua was grimacing in pain.
      That game showed that Alabama would still be 13-0 with Hurts.
      Oklahoma had 3 wins by less than 5 and a win in overtime. Without Murray, Oklahoma might’ve been a 7-5 team. That’s why I think he should win.
