- If you qualify for a waiver, you will be allowed to take an easier version of the citizenship test.
If you have a 55/15 or 50/20 waiver you do not have to show that you can speak English. You will not have to read and write a sentence in English as a part of your citizenship test, and the interview will be interpreted in your native language.
If you have a 65/20 waiver, you do not have to show that you can speak English. Additionally, you only have to learn 20 questions about U.S. history, geography, and civics. The questions you must learn have an asterisk(*) next to them.
If you receive a medical waiver, you do not have to answer questions about U.S. civics, geography, or history; you do not have to pass an English reading or writing test; and you can have the interview interpreted for you in your native language.
Lastly, if you cannot afford your citizenship application fees, you can submit form I-912 Request for Fee Waiver. This waiver will not make you or anyone in your family a public charge. If you receive the waiver, you will not have to pay Immigration to apply for citizenship.
