All of this useful ass data holy shit. More fighting games need this. This is your intro to competitive play and just a basic understanding of how the game calculates everything. this is pure class.
Somebody has probably already said this but going from light to medium to heavy doubles is jago's unique "around the world" combo trait (each character has a trait that allows them to bend/break ki combo conventions) which allows him to link from light to medium to heavy and back to light, completing an "around the world" also grants him additional instinct meter.
Yeah the traits are like IJ2 levels of importance for people's kits.
My God, as a guy who has been playing this game since launch watching you two go through trails brings me joy seeing your reactions to how HYPE this game is. Also, C-C-C COUNTER BREAKER!!! Is the best thing ever!
Man, KI is always hype to watch, I wish for an arc in the saga where Brett could partner with Max Dood for more awesomeness with this game, considering that KI is one of Max's fav fighting games ever
Or talk with Sajam. Both of them know a lot about KI that can clear up some discrepancies they inferred about KI's systems.
This tutorial should be the touchstone for all fighting games' tutorials. I'm truly impressed.
24:15 is my favorite Brett Moment to date.
Please don't jump into online matches, look at a few characters first in single player, see how different they can be.
I'm sure Brett's gonna play around off camera, just so he knows what he's getting into

I think the best thing for this series would be to try some Brett V Santell matches to get a feel for the characters. All these characters are insane and different, so it may be best to prepare for online play.
Fighting games are probably the only the only genre where I wish every game had a tutorial as comprehensive as this game does. Unlike, say, JRPGs, where you can noodle around with your basic attacks and still come out on top most of the time, fighting games have so many obtuse mechanics that you NEED to know in order to be even decent at them.
Considering how detailed it is, I'm surprised the tutorial didn't mention that counter breakers reset the combo value. Can't wait to see the online play.
Loved the part when the CPU Jago was messing with Brett's head on the whiff attack punish lesson. X'D
Brett, Santell, Patrick, any one else relevant, Thank you.
That is all.
the hit trades lmao
9:21 if you think this Tutorial is great, you need to play Under Night Exe:Late[st]'s tutorial. That thing is amazing and teaches you so much.
I would also throw in guilty gear xrd rev 2's tutorial
These KI vids need to be seen more because this game is too hype to not be looked at
Wait till they find out about the double ultras.
ULTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Not to mention Ultra enders and Ultimates from certain characters, oh yeah, and stage ultras
I love how much time you guys are putting into learning the game, looking forward to looking through at least a few of the characters with you guys as well! :D
Killer Instinct Gold, Run it Back, special dojo edition. You guys will be blown away
Fuck yes, next time some balls are getting exposed, fucking love this series.
Next time it's going to be FIRE.
19:09
That's the hype I love on this channel! Let's go bois!
23:45 Aaaand more HYYYYPE!
You did great. I promise you, those combos will just come naturally.
That combo trial.............jesus
This has been my favorite series in awhile. Keep it up guys!
if we had training mode awards in fighting games this would take the prize cause this has been amazing resets especially blew my mind I lost it seeing you combo after a throw and don't get me started on counter breakers since when can you counter combo breakers? I still can't believe it!
So, what I got from this tutorial -
*You can do whatever the fuck you want, everything go's, have fun!*
I was really suprised that you guys hadn't covered this game already when i found the channel and i'm super hype that you guys have gotten to it. I hope this series has a good run!
No Brett. WE appreciate YOU! (And you Santell :3)
In agreement with some others here, even if you do it off camera you should take a look at the other characters. Every character has their own unique crazy bullshit that kinda sort breaks the rules in some form or fashion. It is a lot to take in especially after just now learning the basic mechanics, but it's always easier to learn a new games system when the character you pick really resonates with you.
Making my life better.

Awesome vid
I know you guys record these like a month ahead, but I enjoy seeing every step of the jerney. It is entertaining and educating. I think I'll better understand what exactly is happening when you get in the thick of it online.
This system is TICC
and i hope everyone in U.S calls him Diego too
I actually prefer to see Brett dissect and explain the game though the tutorials over just watching him do online matches, where he needs to concentrate on playing much more.
Not sure how official it is, but apparently the record for the longest combo achieved in KI is a 2000+ hit combo.
Back when hisako had an unlimited ultra
Yoooo I legit fist pumped when I saw this was uploaded
Brett: Killer Instinct has the best tutorial ever
Undernight: Hold my beer
I must have slow, dumb fingers, I can't get passed lesson 17 T_T
6:50 I just saw that episode last night!
ki.infil.net is the go to reference for this game. It has all of the mechanics in one place as well as pretty detailed character breakdowns. You guys may want to check it out when looking for a character to try out.
this announcer is lit
41:12 he says "god-like," it's a little hard to hear.
Cool dojo
I want to see you guys play each other first before the online play.
Tex Wazin The Lord of Fire they are gonna get bodied hard in ranked (well, not in qualifiers, but later).
Birm Someone gonna hit them with that 200 hit ultra combo.
@@Birmanncat qualifiers sometime get placed against Killers because most of the people that still play are very dedicated.
That's a point. I wonder what their reaction will be to being double Ultra'd...
Best tutorial? Wait for Uniel.
While I'm not well verse in fighting games, how in the world do you fighting game players see frames of animation in fighting games to execute moves? Like how can you tell where frame 1 or frame 5 is?
You can't. No one can. You just play the game long enough to maybe starting to feel it.
It's really just math work and timing.
Say that you have a light punch that has a start up of 5 frames...so that means the sixth frame that comes up will be a hit or hitbox activation, and I use a medium punch that has a start up of 6 frames, meaning that the seventh frame will be in hitbox activation. Which wins?
I think you misunderstood. Studying frame data of moves is basically memorizing how many frames a move has, how many of these frames are start-up, recovery, invincible, etc.
@@jotnarringlefinch7742 in Street Fighter, a move that has a startup of 5 frames will hit on the 5th frame.
Once you repeat something enough times, you can understand all the little nuances.
I'm so hyped for you to start playing. I hope ranked isn't as dead on xbox as on steam (I think it isn't) I'm also super hyped for you to look at some characters special traits, they are so game changing, makes the characters almost feel like moba characters. Also ki.infil.net/ For the best KI guide there is, complete with guides for every character
Do some arcade mode or something for practice if you gotta, but going online in a game this old is gonna get you completely bopped unless you take your time learning first
play the intro at 0.75 speed it will change ur life
Can you guys please play Street Fighter Third Strike?
Everytime Brett praises the tutorial for it's depth/innovation, it throws the stupidest shit at him on cue.
Use different characters online, or it will get old fast with one or two characters.
Too much Dojo stuff. Just play.
