You do combos after the first lifebar to gain meter.
Also if someone just popped Instinct, that helps it run out.
It's a mixed bag, though, because the player being hit also gets meter.
@@twilightvulpine not during their instinct though. It is a give and take, I will admit that
Some characters have combo enders that grant a lot of meter.
Dont worry Brett, keep in mind that breaking is hard, right now you should focus on learning the matchups, dont forget shadow wind kick and lazer sword have different types of invulnerability.
Also its a habit of new players to do only one strenght in combos, be aware of that you can probably combo break guys that use only one type of strenght.
Edit: Yo Brett Killer Instinct is available on pc via steam or windows 10 store, the windows 10 version is free to play with one character available to play for free, you can do the tutorial for shadow lords and get jago for free too so you can practice jago to your hearts content, also there is crossplay with xbox so get in there man!!
Ultras going with the stage music is the most badass thing in fighting games imo. TJ Combo's theme with ultras is fucking INCREDIBLE
A few episodes ago, I mentioned that I was glad the 2017 version had the dojo too. I only said that because RUclips thinks this is the 2011 version. I know better now, because I got it on Steam the other day. Even got a fight stick! Did the first few dojo lessons, and am having a tough time timing the inputs for combo starters and enders. Getting more practice in Shadow Lords mode, and was so proud of myself for getting so many Combo Breakers until I noticed the announcer kept saying "Psychic Breaker"...
But yeah! Game is fun to play, fun to watch. Riptor seems fun so far, but one weakness (?) of Shadow Lords is the limited roster. Next time I fire KI up I'll go into standard single player to try out the other characters, see who really strikes my fancy. The vampire lady looks fun, can't go wrong with Sabrewulf, and the new designs for Glacius and Inferno are dope. Aganos seems hard to play well, but very rewarding to learn.
Yesterday I watched a two hour tournament recording and when it ended I was like "wha? no :'(" Every time a match ended I noticed I would take a deep breath, like I was forgetting to breathe while watching or something. Saw a Raam vs Eyedol fight that was hype beyond belief! Anyway, something I noticed was that if their opponent popped Instinct mode or if they played Fulgore they would frequently combo past the end of a round, either to waste their opponent's meter or to build their own Reactor power. If they managed an Ultra they would always cancel the animation somehow. Pretty strange to see 4 hit Ultras but good for keeping the flow of a tournament going, I guess.
Thanks for introducing me to this game, guys! Really loving it :D
K, never mind... This IS the 2013 version, it was just put on Steam in 2017. Anyway, good show guys! Still thankful you made this a series, now my brother is curious about it too!
There is a reference sheet on your character's command and special moves that tells you what is plus and what is minus. It will save your life from strife.
Music continues to be THE BEST
Brett: “I would never continue hitting after the life bar is gone, just not into that”
Next match performs an ultra haha
Paraphrasing but thought that was funny XD
God damn this music! Gonna just have to listen to this soundtrack at work from now on! So good!
My man, Mick Gordon. The metal of gaming.
My faves are the theme of Aria, Fulgore, Kilgore, Aganos, Thunder, and TJ. All of them are great though! Check 'em out!
Highly recommend Spinal, Thunder, Omen, Jago, & Fulgore themes.
However the entire soundtrack is fucking amazing.
Also give praise to the Season 3 composers, Celldweller and Atlas Plug
You should absolutely check out the regular training mode & just go through movelists. Tons of crucial information in there about special properties some moves have, frame data (only on specials unfortunately),
Will help you learn when you should do certain types of enders & other really helpful tips for combos.
one other thing, the reason for continuing combos on dead bodies is that it can be used to build meter. Especially useful on characters who have battery enders. Or special combo rewards like jago getting some instinct meter out of doing an around the world combo.
Holy macaroni that musical finisher was awesome! :D
You should try playing this game like basketball. When you have the ball, try to score. When the opponent has the ball try to steal the ball. Sounds obvious but most fighting games are more like wrestling matches, where you're just trying to attack, block, parry, reverse and punish.
Oh, the memories are flooding back. First online matches, first time hearing the musical ultras, first time loosing only to win next game because you knew what you did wrong in the last match; Killer Instinct is amazing!
"That was obviously some sort of..." "U L T I M A T E."
not sure if you need the advice by now but it's better to watch your character's pain animations for the timing on the combo breaker. there's a different animation for every light medium and heavy that will help you better understand what strength to break with. It's easier than trying to watch every opponent's strength.
DintheAbary omg I’ve played this game off and on since it came out and somehow never realized this -____- thank you!
Glad to be of service, go forth and kick ass! :)
Holy crap I had to stop eating to watch the end of that 2nd to last match. That was intense! Good shit, Brett.
I had no idea this game was that hype.
Brett if you check the move list you can see the frame data it's right next to the special moves
I just legit ran back 16:30 about 15 times its so damn good
man this was great can't wait to see more when you finally adapt and start dominating it is going to be a treat till then we will watch you struggle your way to glory!
As soon as you get a hit off of crouching medium kick, try going into Tatsu/Wind Kick to get the combo going Brett. Otherwise-- Good job hitting Hisako out of her rekka move!
Try Fulgore next time, he is bit like Jago he have SRK and the projectile, also Sabrewolf, Riptor and Glacius are very accessible characters. If you want something more complex try T.J Combo or Spinal. You need to do Brett-a-thon stream to get Xbone and this game for Brett.
I recommend General Raam, he's a grappler and you'd love him.
I feel like there is SO much happening at all time during this game. It's a bit overwhelming. I would lack the patience and dedication to really learn this game. However, I'm enjoying watching y'all figure it out.
The first five minutes of this video is the primary reason I never get into an online versus mode if I'm not there at day one.
Brett, when you decide to check out other characters I think you'll like the way Spinal plays.
of all the things to get pit against you get a pretty decent hisako, that sucks lol, she's easily the weirdest character in the game and the most difficult to fight against if you don't know her gimmick
As a dirty Hisako main who reached KILLER, I agree. She's basically a grappler who can force you to break at the wrong time and capitalize with a counter breaker and eat truckloads of damage. You have to get a good read on a Hisako players tendencies, like if they do the counter everytime you jump in or counter-break attempt after stalls, and punish accordingly.
Hi, Hisako specialist here--
Y E S. Hisako breaks the game on command almost.
Yo I dont know if you know this but you can get this game on PC now too. At least you can practice at home if you want to that way.
i think speed is the greatest barrier to entry for fighting games, for me personally.
I do not possess the mental ability to see what is happening, understand what is happening and then come to the correct answer as to what to do.
By the time ive understood the first move my opponent makes, its already 4 hits into the combo and by the time i understand im being combo'd im dead.
The problem also exists in reverse, if i manage to get in and attack, by the time i understand that i have successfully got an attack in, i am usally already being counter attacked before i can even think what my next attack should be.
And that is pretty much every fighting game for me with some minor exceptions.
-
The listen and react method is a very good and solid one. But i just can not do it, and so i inevitably devolve into button mashing.
The perceived speed of the game slows down with practice. Just keep at it.
Everybody and their mom plays Jago
Well he is the character who is easiest to learn, this game took me soooooo long to learn and get ok at, love playing Mira now but played Jago probably the most of any character.
Some people aren't competitive. And that's the right way to play. Being competitive is a waste of time.
You're gonna see a lot of Jago cause he's a free character when you download the game
You guys should do story mode on here as well. Unlock those skins, and learn other characters move sets too. Plus if it's anything like the original, the story should be kinda cool.
i would have like to see yoi guys trying and giving your tought on the cast in training mode before you jump into online just so you can see what character feets your playstil the time
Sounds like we need another Santellathon so Brett can get an XboxOne!
12:26 in regards to your "hitting a dead body between rounds" comment: hopefully you'll continue to play the game, as there are reasons as to why you'd do stuff like that, like draining someone's instinct
I'm gonna see if there's a playlist of the ost for this game...it's pretty cool.
Nice to see the struggle, makes me want to get better at the game
I'm going to laugh when someone pulls an Ultimate or a Stage Ultra on them. Just watch.
I mean... it happened in this video...
Yo Brett that was an MF DOOM mask not absolver. Recognize Hip Hop legends.
It's on Win10 and Steam. I think it might be on sale
Brett it's on steam
The reason for combos after defer is more meter
KI is on steam bro.
Wait. Brett. Do you not have a PC?
18:50 HERE IT IS! THE BEST MUTHAFUCKIN' SONG!
Killer Instinct also on pc
C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER
good vid
KILLER INSTINCT HYYYPE!
Also hisako is #1. Hope u guys gonna pick her soon =)
Still in the HYYYPE zooone!
Finally some actual combat. The dojo for 4 episodes was a bit much, my dudes.
Agree, I think first 16 lessons are mandatory but the rest are really advanced stuff you don't even need at the start.
Four episodes of Dojo? No need for even just one episode.
Looks like these people barely even know what they're doing despite being in silver-gold ranks.
That's sometimes the case at even killer rank. Rank means little.
Since you don't have a xbox 1 it is free I think on the window 10 but if anything just watch some RUclipsr that play it a lot like maximillian dood and others to maybe learn
good advice, maximillians old KI videos really can help you learn alot
Yo, I saw you guys play Melty Blood on Jesse's channel, and I'm really glad you did, so I'll link a video on why people still play Melty Blood (this video actually got me into the game), and if you watch it and are interested in playing it on the channel, I'll absolutely gift you guys the game. Keep up the great work, guys!
ruclips.net/video/Zz4L7uy3zj8/видео.html
Here's the video, to prove why it's one of the more unique fighters out there.
When in doubt just play Ryu.
JAGO HAS A MF DOOM MASK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6:25
Now that you have a taste of online maybe go to training and play some other characters and their ability.
Yeah, Jago is an aggressively boring character.
You guys gotta check out ki.infil.net . It's the KI Bible
Think you went into online matches way too early. You should've tried a few more characters and maybe picked someone other than Jago, he's pretty boring to watch considering he's basically just another shoto character in a game with demon ladies and wolfmen. Great series none the less, just some suggestions for future episodes.
Uhm. Do you really think you'll find someone low in a game from 2013? Only Elites are left. Ever tried SFIV these days?
Please try somebody besides Jago, he's so boring
At least do one match againt the cpu jesus
All these Jago matches are kind of boring tbh. Not on you guys, but all these opponents.
