    Thank you!
    One of my burners started sparking. I raised the top, (after turning off the power), and pushed the receptacle block in and now it doesn't spark. However, I noted electrical tape around it and not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Knowing how the apartment manager hires lame techs, I suspect this is bad.
    For great techs who may read this, please keep up the good work! You're hard to come by.

    Best I've seen so far. I watched plenty of videos on this because the 8" element did not always work and the terminals were darkened so there's arcing. I changed the receptacle block (but couldn't open the top to do it no matter how hard I tried). Now it's back to the same thing after working only for a little while.

      If you have 2 8 inch elements try swapping them. You might have to replace the element too.

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  5 лет назад +1

      Without seeing the schematics to your stove, it's hard to give an accurate diagnosis. The schematics for your stove may be located on the stove someplace. If you have an infinite switch as shown in the video and contacts inside of the switch control the indicator light, then the contacts in the switch may be stuck closed. You could try swapping two of the infinite switches (if they are identical) and see if the problem follows the switch. The other option is to shot gun it and replace the infinite switch.

    Great video! I do have a question though. I have your typical coil electric stove with four burners and believe that a burner is getting too hot even on low setting #1. I don't know how to test this. It just has a dial with numbers so I don't know what the temperature should be for each number or how long does it take to get up to temp. But even on 1 it seems to bring water to a rapid boil quickly.

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  4 месяца назад

      If it used to work OK, then, I'd try a new control switch, they can stick. If the stove is new to you, then maybe the control switch is bad or someone installed the wrong one.

      You might try finding the model number for your stove. It's likely on a tag with the model number, maybe inside the oven door or on the back. There are several places on the web that sell parts. Look up your model number on one of those sites. Most of them will show you a parts diagram. Order the correct part for your stove.

    Thanks for this video! I have a question: My stove is a push button (I love the buttons!) from 1963, some burners don't work at all, while others only work on certain settings. Would the blackened and pitted contacts you talked about contribute to the problem of working on certain settings, or would you look first at the switches?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  3 года назад +1

      Hi Russell, I kind of remember those push button stoves. If you are good at reading schematics and using a multimeter, you could check the output from the buttons. Somewhere on the stove there is likely a schematic. Maybe on the back. That's where I would start. If you don't have that level of electrical knowledge, then you could try replacing the burners & the sockets. I'm not sure that you will get parts for something of that vintage.

    Excellent tutorial! I have an issue with a burner sliding out of the receptacle box. Is it possible to simply widen out the contacts at the end of the burner so they will fit "snugger" in the receptacle box?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  5 лет назад

      The inside of the receptacles can wear over time. I don't know of any way to widen the contacts. A loose electrical connection can heat up and start a fire. It won't trip a breaker, unless it's one of the new ones that are supposed to detect arcing. The safest thing to do is to replace the receptacle. On most stoves it's not too difficult to replace the receptacle. I have a video that shows how to do it. Click on the channel name and look at the playlists to find it. Can you use a hair dryer? And you can test it before you put on the heat protective sleeve on it?

      I am guessing that you have watched my video that shows how to replace the receptical block? Yes a hair dryer might work on the shrink tubing. For sure you don't want any bare wire touching any metal part of on the stove when you turn a burner on. You will be arc welding and get a good little boom if that happens. Leave exposed bare wires at your own risk.

    absolutely fantastic video. thanks! the problem with my stove is all four burners and the oven quit working. the clock still works and the indicator light for the burners lights. I checked the breaker, all is good there. I have no idea what to check now. any ideas?

      Could it be in the oven clean mode & locking out the burners? I presume this is a newer stove/oven that has a digital display. Look for a wiring schematic on the back, if you can locate it, look to see if there is a fuse. If it has an electronic control board, it never hurts to try to power down & back up.

    My burner won’t cool down intermittently. We’ve burnt food my turning it down but it does cool down. I’ve changed the control switch and it still does it. Coil is good, receptacle seems okay. Any ideas why?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  Год назад

      If the stove doesn't have any circuit boards, it sure sounds like a control switch problem. Was the replacement switch an OEM part? Is is the correct part?

    I have a problem with my stove. Would you give my a hint? The two small burns works. Two bigger ones will not turn on unless I turn on one of the small burners. Thanks in advance

      It's not possible to give you a good answer with out being there I'd need , make, model, schematics and to be on site. A wild guess is that there are circuit boards in the stove, maybe a problem there.

    My issue is the burner won’t stay on. It’d turn red and then cool down, and turn on again. Any idea what the problem maybe? Thank you for helping!

    1988 GE JBP26J. Same as yours..I have a left rear burner that just burns HOT ...I want your stove :-)

      I'm hanging on to the stove, lol! They don't make appliances that last like these, nor are the new ones easy and inexpensive to repair. A friend who bought a new washer & dryer was told as the old ones were being wheeled out, "These won't last as long as your old washer & dryer." In less than one year the dryer broke and needed a new board. Fortunately, it was still under warranty.

    hi i had a disasterous event when my landlord was inspecting an element - we raised the lid and 2 wires from a broken element shorted on the metal frame LOL. we replaced the element and it doesn't turn on but the indicator light is always on? do you think we screwed up the switch?

    • @Know-How-Now
      @Know-How-Now  2 года назад

      It sounds like you left the magic smoke out. lol. Wow, that must have been a surprise and a good reason to unplug the stove before lifting an element. I'd say odds are good that you damaged the switch control.

      You might want to look for a wiring diagram. They are often on the back of the stove. There is no way for me to know all of the wiring colors used on different makes & models.
