Thank you for going over this topic. As of late my autofill has not been working so well and what I mean is that the information that I thought was saved on my card was incorrect. After watching this video I updated my card and it now has the appropriate information. These are the videos from you I look forward to the most. Actions on my Mac I use daily and need to learn how to use properly 🙇🏽♂
I love these videos that delve into features we use daily yet seldom think about or really understand how and why they work (or fail to work). Great job as always 👍
Great information, I said to my husband that I always look at your video’s and he looked one time and he said to me “So that’s where you get the knowledge to know so much” 😅😅. Just a few more video’s and I am smarter than him 😂😂😂😂. Thanks for this, another video for my collection. I am from the Netherlands and I look at some Dutch folks who are having video’s about numbers etc. but you are the best.
The most useful Mac tips I have found on the web. Also thanks for your quick reply on you web site to my question on stripping paragraph tags in Pages.
Fantastic job! This is a very important feature that everyone needs to know. Keep up the good work, I send licks to your videos to everyone who asks me Mac questions.
omgosh I have used Macs since the MacPlus but I had missed the 'Other Forms' section of Safari. I have a couple of bank sites that are never filled in correctly by 1password or Safari autofill. I think this safari nugget might work!. thanks
Autofill 'Other Fields' no longer works for me! It used to offer a selection of previously entered information for various fields on a page I use frequently. Any help will be much appreciated...? 🙏🏼
Sometimes I sign up to a new website and fill in the user name and password, I don't always get a prompt to "save password" do you know why this happens.... another great informative video
Here’s one: I use Safari auto fill (or maybe autocomplete?) to pass information from other people’s contacts. I do this every day for work. One hiccup probably doesn’t have a work around. If there are multiple fields for multiple contracts, auto filling the first contact repeats into all fields for all contacts. Here’s the second one: forms at some websites use cookies to suggest contacts, words, or phrases that I use often. In some cases, safari’s auto fill window appears on top of the website suggestion, and there doesn’t appear to be a way to simply “disregard” safaris suggestion so I can go on with my business.
AutoFill definitely is not meant for that the first case. It is for you to fill in your info. So it won't help you fill in other info like that. And yes, if the web page wants to use code to put something else there from your account info or cookies or whatever, it will override AutoFill.
Thanks bunches. Gary, where does one actually have the ability to edit the cards besides at the website of the company that is using the credit card. It seems one can only add or remove cards through Safari?
Hi. I'm running Catalina 10.15.7 (latest and can't update past this to any other OS) on a Late 2013 iMac. App Store and Safari are not working. Every time I try to launch them, they crash (immediately quit after 3 seconds). Any solution?
Well, this explains why Autofill on some sites always enters my cousin's info. What I can't figure out is how to change it to my contact; if I select my name off the Contacts list, it shows up in the window. But when I get out of that window and go back in, my cousin's name appears again. Any hints?
I am under the impression that some nefarious web sites can design the auto-fill section to receive information that is not otherwise displayed on the screen (say using a small, 1x1 pixel field?) so that you may be thinking you are providing a name and email address only, but it is retrieving other info via auto fill, like cell numbers, home addresses, etc. Is that true? If it is, is there anyway to prevent sites from getting info that you are not aware they are collecting when you use auto-fill?
I have never tested it, but I would assume that browsers would be smart enough to not autofill those. Plus, autofill information is compartmentalized, so providing your email address shouldn't provide your phone number, for instance.
My rant is how developers are stealing hours and hours of my life filling in applications over and over with the same information. I'm sending them my resume, why do I have to fill out the forms...again! I generally just say that if they're going to make it this tedious to apply, I probably don't want to work for them. Thanks for the video.
I had heard from an article that some websites take advantage of autofill. Say you want to "build a Ford", or check Air fares but they need (only) your zip code. That triggers autofill, and all your info get filled in on to a page layered under what you think is the only page never realizing you just gave the all your info. Have you heard of tis?
I don't think that would work. If the field isn't visible, then it wouldn't get filled. But if you are concerned, if you see a field for zip code, just type your zip code and don't use autofill.
When I saw this video pop up I was hoping it would help me figure out why my email keeps autofilling and how to stop it from a certain behavior that's annoying but unfortunately it didn't. Maybe you can help me solve this. My name is Art and when I type "Art" anywhere in a web site, Pages, Notes in Chrome or Safari, practically anywhere it will attempt to autofill my email because my email address starts with "Art" also. When my email pops up there will be a small "x" in the right hand corner of my email so I can click that and it will not autofill my email after that. Believe it or not even when I type "Art" in a Amazon product search box on their web page my email address will want to autofill. I've tried the suggestions in this video to turn it off and did but it still happens. Any suggestions?
It sounds like you are talking about "autocomplete" not AutoFill, which is just a feature of the browser. First, check in System Preferences, Keyboard, Text and see if you find you name/email added to the list of text replacements. Other than that, if you use the X you notice there in autocomplete a few times, it should stop the replacement.
@@macmost You got to be kidding me. You were absolutely right on the nose with this one. For the life of me and after dozens of online searches i couldn't find the solution of this and you did it in less than 30 seconds so even though this video didn't directly solve my issue it did indirectly and that' awesome! I might have edited my autocomplete settings years ago but couldn't remember. Thank You.
Thanks for the video trying to disable auto fill on PDFs because I’m filling out stuff for work and I don’t want my information in these PDFs. So I’m in the PDF and of course it’s preview not Safari, I click on “preview” then “settings” and I don’t have the four checkboxes to disable those temporarily
Safari will often auto submit for me, which is REALLY IRRITATING! I’ve been using 1Password which might be to blame, but auto submit still occurs when 1Password is disabled. Any ideas on how to stop this behavior? I’ve switched to Firefox until I find a solution.
@@Stationmike The autofill for your real email should be at the top, and the option to use Hide My Email should be at the bottom of that list. They don't exclude each other. If you don't see your real email as an autofill option, then check your Safari autofill settings.
☠BLACK BARON☠ How do I revoke the Autofill-Setting for a domain and web page? I clicked "Never Save the password". How do I revoke this procedure? Where is it stored in the OSX system that stores websites that I have rejected to save passwords for auto-filling? I checked "Save Password" after entering the password but I can't find it anywhere in Apple Safari Prefs. It's not stored. Where is it stored then? It's time for Apple to get this thing working properly. That's my opinion.

Impossible for me to guess. Probably need to get it in front of an expert if you've run out of troubleshooting options.
Great video. Is there a way to add a secondary name to auto fill, such as a spouse? Thanks
Not really. But how often does that come up that you need it autofilled?
@@macmost Well that’s a good question. But it would be nice to have that option. Thanks, love your videos.

Are you using an older version of Safari? That shouldn't be a problem with the current version.
Autofill continues to ask to "hide my email address" even though I have never used it. I have tried a number of "cures" but nothing has worked. Help!
If you don't want to use it in that situation, just ignore it.
