Owego, NY resident here. I enjoyed briefly seeing my village! I share a back yard with the guy who used to own the Owego Harford RR, Lehigh Railway, and a couple of other shortlines. He retired a few years ago, and the Owego Harford is now owned by RJ Corman as anybody with google probably already knows. We used to have a "scenic" (passenger excursion) train in Owego, but that was a LONG time ago.
FYI, Mehoopany, Pa. is where Proctor and Gamble have a huge paper products plant that was built in the mid 1960's. A lot of supplies are brought to there by rail.
Great Video! I think a great place to shoot a "How Railroads Work" Video would be the Selkirk NY area. I know it is a little far, but it is well worth it. If you get out early enough, you can see the morning rush, and the two lines in the area are great for autumn shots.
I do really want to get some more NS action, and the Southern Tier Line seems nice to railfan, the only challenge, however, being that traffic is pretty low on the Southern Tier. Do you know how I could get action on this line without waiting too long? Any catch on this line means something to me.
It's kind of a crapshoot usually but traffic everywhere usually picks up a little bit in the fall. It's usually just a matter of listening to the radio feeds and checking the facebook groups etc. luckily CSX isn't too far away so there's always a backup plan if you get a light day.
Great video as all of yours are....I see a bunch of T cars at the Erie shops..Wondering what level of work they do there that they would bring T equipment there for...Or do they make the T cars there? Any ideas? I live in Boston and the commuter rail goes by my apartment and I see and hear them all day and night.
I think that they're capable of manufacturing equipment from the ground up but can't say for sure.. Let me see if I can find out more about it... And thanks for the kind words.. Much appreciated.
Your welcome. The T has a really big shop on the North Side were they repair all equipment so I was surprised to see those cars up there. They do sometimes send equipment out via CSX going south first via Mass Coastal RR and then out from there...Not sure who makes the cars for them but I thought it was Bombardier, many years ago they bought cars from Kawasaki which were nothing but headaches and then went closer to home...Keep up the great videos so people like me can see what else is out there..Back in the 90's I worked for Amtrak in the OBS department and got to travel out of Boston to CHI and as far south as Newport News...I loved the job in the Cafe/Club/Lounge cars and met the world...Had knee troubles and ended as a ticket agent in Back Bay Boston, I hated that job and then quit (big mistake)..100% disabled now and don't get to travel like I use to so this is how I travel now.
Most understood, Rich.. I'm sorry about your injuries but I am glad that you enjoy the videos.. A little commercial, this is only the beginning.. When the weather warms up next years I hope to be travelling the country again (I to used to travel a lot) and will be doing railfanning video like these (and better) from around the country so I hope that you'll continue to be one of our viewers.

Considering the music at the beginning, we expected a voice announcement like : "previously, on How Railroads work"…
good, very good!!
Thanks, Man.. Glad you enjoyed!
so Southern tier means Southern New York?
Yes. Basically all the New York State counties that run along the PA border between Jamestown and Binghamton is considered the Southern tier.
For the most part.. But it depends on who you ask.

:-)
Womdeful Video! Is this line typically busy on Saturdays? Thanks
I think that any day is pretty much a good day
I was wondering if you heard about 28n derailment in attica ny on the southern tier
I did.. Got 5 re-routes on the Sunbury Line.. Got a video coming out next week.
What railroad is Golden West Service?
Golden West wasn't really a railroad.. It's a little confusing but I'm going to do a video on it.
How often do they run through Corning NY
If you mean NS they run about 8 trains a day across the Tier.
dont mean to be that guy but you have 36t and 309 mixed up
36T is an eastbound manifest, this is westbound
37T
The music is unbearable.
Then turn your volume down.
