From the minute I heard of this, I thought it was some weirdo sitting at a computer in his bedroom at his mums house.

If nothing else it shows the power of social media, of tugging on the heartstrings of those with recent memories of a much loved (and missed brand) and just how quickly things can grow to get out of control. We might never know the reasons behind it but the old adage of 'if it seems too good to be true...' was never writ so large. Thanks for the video guys

Surely there's going to be a Max Fosh or Josh Pieters video in a few months "I fooled the world by creating a fake airline" or something lol

Another possible scenario is that they went to elaborate lengths (but without actually spending all their money), to gauge public reaction to see if it actually was a viable option before launching it for real.

Great video! Really wanted this to work out, but didn't have much hope for it! Crazy to think anyone could just make up a rumour and it spreads like a wildfire 😭

Great memories of many flights, over many past years to Faro from Manchester. Monarch schedule flew early morning and returned midday, perfect and I never experienced any delays etc. Such a shame they ceased trading, but this is a great informative video, thank you AL.

Fantastic video as always, I was a big fan of Monarch and travelled with them a few times. I would truly like to see them return to the sky, just goes to show what is fake and what is real.

A pity, Monarch was a fine airline which I used on a number of occasions, we need some more competition in the short haul industry to give the greedy airlines a run for their money.

Shows what lengths some scammers will go to. The massive interest maybe caught them off guard.

I knew it wasn’t going to work out the moment I first heard the news! A British airline already tried twice (Flybe), but failed both times, so it was bound to be the same case with monarch, but the circumstances of monarch is quite shocking. In the end, I knew for a fact it wasn’t going to work which is why I wasn’t hyped at all

Thanks for this explainer - I came to it late and was very confused about what had gone on. So weird - massive investment for a pointless hoax if that’s all it is!

Zero chance this would happen sadly, Easy/Ryanair/Jet2/Tui especially at MAN have closed off the game.

I flew with them Luton to Gibraltar using Monarch Scheduled and I think that it was a Boeing 757.They were mainly a holiday airline and flew to southern Europe and North Africa although they did some long haul to the Maldives and West Indies if i recall correctly.

It looked fake from the off, for a number of reasons. One look at the website highlighted various issues, from poor copywriting to blatant contradictions and the use of old imagery. Unfortunately it demonstrated how easy it is to con people.

If it is fake which it looks like it is, I still can't work out the motivation unless it was to secure funding and run off with it. There's quite a few scams where I can't work out why it exists.
