I like that idea of Magnifico telling Asha this story as a "Once Upon a time" type story, but I would change one detail and say Magnifico was actually just a son of a Farmer, rather than royalty. "That King would never think... of something as 'inconvinencing' and 'miserable' as rain to be missed... *But the son of a farmer* knew right away what a Curse his ignorant wish laid."
How he started out with the right perspective, and he views himself as being more aware than that king because of his background, and his empathy and ability to think ahead. He believed wishes need to be _tested, thought out, specific_ or else danger and havoc could be made. and as he started his own kingdom in a far away land, learned magic like that sorcerer to grant wishes, but with a *_"I know better"_* attitude from experience, he makes a stable kingdom. But he starts to grow out of touch himself, and fears that self-awareness that he can't KNOW everything, and the anxiety and pressure he puts on himself to take on the wishes, and thus _burdons_ of others becomes too much and he feels he must become a despot to 'protect everyone' but he's just scared about recreating the mistakes of the past that lead to a destructive revolution that broke that one curse, but costed him _everything._
I know they were trying to go back to Evil villain is Evil because they're E V I L, but they messed up by making him seem like a goodguy with a sympathetic backstory that is corrupted by evil magic. DON'T HIDE IT! SHOW HIM AS *_EVIL_* FROM THE JUMP! Have him be an evil liar. They did that PERFECTLY with Gothel, since she's sympathetic because they took that flower, but she's SO VAIN that she kidnapped a baby and mentally and emotionally abused her for YEARS as her pleasent _slave,_ just to be young.
We don't get a backstory about her past trauma with WHY she thinks the world is this way, we just know she's willing to go through anything and anyone to get what she wants, and is willing to bound and chain a 'daughter' she's been raising for 18 years as nothing but magic chattle. We see her manipulative and horrid, yet very charismatic, nature in Mother Knows Best. It's despicable.
Or Big Jack Horner, he's just an ungreatful, baligerant, power-hungry, psychopath. THAT'S ALL YOU NEED TO DO, really.

That is an absolutely brilliant take, especially about Magnifico's backstory. Your version would round off his character so well, and the idea of him trapped in a mirror yet with the hope of redemption is so heartbreaking.
In my own mental rewrite of the film, I imagined a slightly different kind of ambiguity for Magnifico, which would also be nice to see: a man whose intentions are good, yet whose personality is unpleasant. Magnifico's achievements are heroic and come from a place of genuine benevolence. No other kingdom lets its citizens live in such peace and prosperity for free. But their absolute freedom comes at the cost of their deepest personal desires. Magnifico doesn't hoard their wishes out of spite - his fear of chaos and unrest is reasonable. He may genuinely regret having to wipe their memories. But in his elevated and somewhat isolated position, he's also developed arrogance, paranoia and an overly dismissive attitude. In short, the kind of behaviour you've learned to expect from a classic Disney villain. That same behaviour puts Asha off and confirms her in her impulsive decision to set the wishes free - maybe Magnifico was too dismissive or distracted to explain his reasons well enough, or maybe Asha was simply so disillusioned by his apparent coldness that she ignored his reasoning.
I agree that it's necessary to show the negative consequences of wishes that are granted thoughtlessly, and I take my version to the same place from here - Asha's granting of the wishes results in chaos. As Magnifico sees his worst fears come true, the story could take many directions: maybe he spirals into villainy and madness as you say. Or maybe he realises that this is partially his fault, because he wasn't empathetic enough to listen to his inexperienced apprentice. So he and Asha reluctantly work together to restore peace. Maybe in this version, Magnifico getting trapped behind the mirror is a tragic accident that happens throughout the chaos - leaving Asha to take on her inspirational leadership role with him as mentor. Maybe Asha vows to find a way to free him once she has mastered magic.

I also wanted Magnifico to be redeemed and realized his partly to blamed. I think your idea of his realization along with him and Asha working together could tied into the wish granted sorcerer who returns for vengeance in a possible sequel. If only the movie was better than what it was.

And do it in a similar vein to the movie Mulan. The scene where the guys are singing ‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’, when the army finds the ruined village the song stops cold. They don’t do any more singing from then on.
So for here have Magnifico break his wish, the music stops cold, signifying the enormity of the situation, the evil magic comes to life, and with a final ‘at all costs’ the scene fades to black.
Of course in this one we can go back to signing after the day has been saved, but between the wish break and the mirror imprisonment, no more songs. Just an idea.

Just watching the trailers I assumed Asha was Magnifico's recent stepdaughter since her mom the queen married him for love...would've been a great conflict of trying to let her mom know he wasn't a good person and her mom not seeing it until later, that is such a reality for many teens that their parent put their couple first and its so hard but engaging. Also It would have been awesome to had the star boy in the original concept story and have a love story. The song "at all costs" wouldve make much more sense because we would see them falling in love but at the same time in paralell maybe the villain singing to his true lost love, his first wive that died because of a wish he or other person made.

I saw Magnifico as someone who had PTSD and paranoia. He was arrogant and narcissistic but not evil. Asha was rigth that the wishes that wont be granted should be returned so the ppl can work on achieving their wish. And Magnifico can grant some wishes and keep the dangerous ones. But he was afraid. All his good melted away until he consumed dark magic. Asha, her friends, and Queen could've figured out a way to get dark magic out of him. The Queen could've distracted him (in movie they showed that he truly loved his wife.) So she could've tried talking to him/distracting him meanwhile the others cast a spell and release king of all that evil. In the end King learns to trust his ppl more. To not see everything as a threat. Asha can assure him that together they can keep kingdom safe and good like he wanted to. He could've given reins to Queen in meantime to recover. He did keep everyone safe and happy for years. It's a lot of weight to rule kingdom. It makes sense that he snapped when he saw ppl doubting him. I hated that everyone just gave up on him. Did everyone just suddenly get amnesia and forget he was a good man. That he saw his home get destroyed and family killed in front of him. I loved the movie but hated ending. My uncle got PTSD when he came back from Iraq. PTSD really does change a person. It was as if they replaced my uncle with a clone. Looked and spoke like him but different personality. I agree they should've flushed out movie more. I wouldn't have mind the movie longer. 😊

This is a good rewrite! Im also brainstorming alot of plot ideas for the king to either make him ruthlessly evil or a tragic villain cus there is some potential in there!
I thought it would be a cool idea to make Magnifico resemble a cult leader that uses wishes as a fuel for his evil scheme, and make asha and her friends visit the kingdom of rosas instead of being a part of it so you can make an argument that everyone in the town is not happy but only showing a facade to newcomers to come and join them
Then for the sympathetic version is to make magnifico take a risky deal with the dark magic to grant him the ability to grant anyone's wishes and keep the kingdom safe from colonizers who destroyed his previous home, but he mistakens asha's wishing star as a threat and has become desperate so he sacrifices himself to the dark magic to protect the kingdom, hes got good intentions but his actions are twisted. I also like the idea of your ending that Asha would someday break the king from his curse

My rewrite (for now) is this: In rosas, 10 years from the story's start, Asha goes to a wish ceremony on her birthday with her parents and her best friend. She is mesmerized by the kings wish magic, which starts her dream of being his next apprentice that gets to learn wish magic (only the king and his apprentice can use it), which is the most powerful form that helps keep the wishes safe. She wishes on the star in the sky, which in this version, creates the wishes of the people of rosas that king magnifico collects when they turn 18 so that they don't become obsessed with their wish.
10 years later, she is starting her first day as the kings new apprentice after the past one retired. We get to see that while she's somewhat nervous and does cause a clumsy accident, she is still clever and good with magic. Her first day ends up going so well that she is invited to be at his wish ceremony in a week. However, before asha could start celebrating, the king sees a glow of light in the sky, which he knows is a message threatening to let everyone's wishes loose , causing the king to panic and run to his study.
Asha follows him, confused on why that's a bad thing, in which he reveals the meaning behind the glow, and that if everyone had their got their wish back, bad things could happen, and showcases how some wishes are vague and could be harmful. However, Asha doesn't get it and starts questioning the king, which causes the king to say that she's too young and stupid to understand and that she is too unworthy to be his apprentice if she cant understand that out of anger, which leads to her storming off and being fired.
While running through the forest to find the tree that she sat on during her childhood to accept the fact that her dream of becoming the kings apprentice is never coming true, we meet the main villain of this movie, a boy shapeshifter her age who after hearing that Asha was once the kings apprentice, ends up convincing asha that his intentions and goal are good, and she ends up joining him to help him fulfill his goal. His goal is that he wants to steal the wishing star from the sky, which is where wishes are created in the first place, to use its power to “give everyone’s wishes so that they can be truly happy” while in reality, he only wants it to cause chaos in the kingdom and to gain control of rosas.
Meanwhile, a couple of days later , the king finds out that she is working with the villian, causing him to give a speech to the kingdom stating that he was betrayed by his apprentice and will grant the wish of anyone who finds her, which after the speech, causes him to sing about his past, how a bad wish caused his village to be destroyed, how he created rosas so that bad wishes could be less harmful, but the thanks he gets is asha betraying him and the villain's plan to ruin his kingdom.
He almost gets tempted to use dark magic in a state of panic but his wife stops him from doing so, telling him that she's worried that the king could get too carried away by the threat and starts to actually corrupt like his previous apprentice, who ended up gaining shapeshifting skills from it. They share a heartfelt moment (and potentially a romantic song) and, after asha's friend turns her in, the king decides to grant his wish of becoming the kings most loyal knight during the wishing ceremony, and gives him the goal of tracking down asha.
Meanwhile, asha and the villian start getting closer to the villain's goal. The villian is suprised by asha's skill with magic, and Asha starts to show some interest towards him, which the villain pretends to reciprocate but is really only doing so that Asha stays complicit to his plan. They journey across the forest, and in a slightly comedic scene, the villain is able to steal the wishing star from the sky.
However, just after that happens, asha's friend finds her and the villain together and captures them. He tries to tell her that she's being misguided, in which the villian ends up using the power of the star's dust to create dark magic, hurting asha's friend by taking his dream away from his heart and destroying it, leaving him weak and dreamless.
Asha asks the villian why he would do such a thing, in which the villains true colors and plan are revealed, and it being revealed that he was the previous apperentice. He ends up running to the kingdom to fulfill his plan, after which we get a scene of Asha sitting there in disbelief, wondering how she was so stupid to be fooled by the villian. She ends up making a plan to heal her friend and save Rosas and runs back to the kingdom.
Meanwhile, while rosas is asleep, the villain uses dark magic generated by stardust to let all the wishes out, and sends out another glow in the sky, only this time brighter, causing everyone to wake up on go outside to see what's going on, only to see that all the wishes were floating in the sky which the villain grants with dark magic in his main villain song, causing chaos to be let loose. Asha arrives and sees this happening, which leads to the climax to unfold.
Asha goes to the king and apologizes for her actions, asking him to go with her plan so that they could save rosas. So together, they battle the villain and defeat him, causing all the wishes to be given back to king magnifico. The king uses magic to put the star back in the sky and offers to give asha a second chance after she proved herself by battling the villain.
The story ends with a redone wish ceremony, with asha being declared the kings apprentice after saving the kingdom.
My idea definitely needs some improvements and expansion ngl, what do you guys think?

    • @gio-ve7vn
      @gio-ve7vn 7 месяцев назад +4

I really like this! I think the only thing to expand on is how the wish situation is handled after the climax. they can't go back to the old system and they've seen that letting all the wishes be granted creates chaos, so what's the new solution? There's also something to be said about the value of hard work toward your "wish". Dreams don't just happen, you need the ambition and grit to see it through. Asha does this with her wish, how do we show that to the rest of the kingdom?

In my own little rewrite of Wish, Asha understands why Mangifico doesn't allow vague wishes, but she notices that Mangifico's looking a little more tired than usual. In my rewrite, casting people's wishes is slowly draining the life out of him, and it's starting to catch up to him seeing that he's been granting people's wishes for so long.
Asha and the Star end up finding an old wish of Mangifico's from long ago that went something along the lines of, 'I wish I could keep my ability to grant wishes without my life being drained somehow.' (Or something. Idk. I have no idea how to put this wish into words.) Asha finds it and thinks, "Oh cool! This could help the King," only for her to realize only moments too late, "Oh shoot! That was a vague wish! The King said vague wishes were dangerous!" The wish ends up giving Mangifico the evil book we saw in the film.
The book contains spells that return Mangifico's spirits, but corrupts his heart and mind while doing so. The book also tells him that, if he doesn't destroy a wish when casting these spells, then the effects won't be permanent. And since his heart and mind are corrupted, he can't think of doing the right thing. The Queen (forgot her name) finds out, and when she talks to Asha, she says that she isn't mad at her and she understands that Asha was just trying to help.

    I had a rewrite of my own...kinda.
Personally, I think this movie could have been fixed with a few fixes.
    1. Magnifico, Or really Magnus or Mag, isn't the king but a friend of Asha who, like her wants to make everyone's wishes come true by being apprenticed to the King. The king is actually a Yen Sid character, King Walt. Similar to Magnifico, He doesn't really grant all the wishes. Not because he wants to stay in power, but because of the "cost" of granting a wish. ("This is the thanks I get" Happier version where Walt sings of how happy he is to see his people happy.) However, the power to grant wishes is taking a bit of toll on him so he puts out signs to find an apprentice.
    2. Asha and Mag visit the motherly Seamstress who gives them clothes to look good for for the king who is interviewing them for the position of Wish granter. There is disagreement between Asha and King Walt which leads to her being dismissed and Mag getting the position.
    3. Asha is tricked by Mag, who uses Asha's impatience to get her to grant everyone's wish, including his wish to rule Rosas (Actions over words). He then puts the king in the dungeon.
    4. Asha, who chides King Walt for him not granting wishes, is warned by King Walt that the price of granting a person's wish is the loss of something personal to that person. (Magnifico loses his empathy, falling to his own desire for power. A seamstress who wanted to make dresses to get money to ensure her child's future LOSES said child, etc.). He even explains that he helps them attain their wish by gifting them chances and opportunities to further their dreams, so the cost of the wish wouldn't be so steep. ("Just a Little magic help") Asha, after seeing this tries to stop Magnifico, but is thrown into the dungeon with the king.
    5. Asha has to convince King Walt to help despite his anger and disappointment in his people. ("This is the thanks I get/Actions over words." duet version). She tells him that while he thought he was doing enough, He separated himself from his people, not realizing that there are those who need more than words and faith to believe in someone.
    6. Mag, now going by King Magnifico, wants more power so he opens a forbidden book hinted at in the beginning by King Walt, to gain his staff of dark power, (My wish. A dark song where Mag ponders the limits of his wish and how far he can go with it. "This is my wish...And no one will deny me it.")
    7. Together, after reawakening the seamstress who is visiting Asha, because motherly instinct, the two of them accend tht tower to stop him.
    8. They defeat him, He is sucked into this staff like in the movie. However, in a show of change for Asha, she uses the power of her own wish to save him. ("My Wish. (Asha lullaby.) "This is my wish...and I give it up freely.")
    9. Asha, having learned the value of a wish vs hardwork, becomes the Wish granter. Mag is put in the dungeon but it is hinted that he willingly will pay for for his crimes, and King Walt returns to power, with the hint that Asha will take over when he is gone. ("My Wish". (Our wish))

So far this is my favorite take. I know that people claim that moral grayness has been overdone recently, I feel like there is enough hope to reaffirm the moral of the story (even if a wish can be dangerous, it can also be beautiful).

Dude, you are amazing. Tragically, Wish ended up so mediocre. Disney has the potential to make a great movie, but they threw it away to make something so mediocre. King Magnifico had to be the greatest part of the movie, but you can tell that he’s not living up to the full potential he had as a villain. Mainly because I believe the film was split on how to portray him; the first part hinted that he had a tragic backstory and sympathetic reasons for being a villain, and in the second part, he was just a generic villain. The tragedy is that they could’ve made it work like that; he did have a tragic past and sympathetic reasons at first, but years of being a beloved king got to his head, and his narcissism and paranoia destroyed the good qualities that he once had.
I know many people are getting sick of these sympathetic villains from Disney, and I’m one of them, but honestly, seeing this movie, I think King Magnifico would’ve been much better as a sympathetic and tragic villain than just a generic Disney villain from the past.
I do have one question: what about Queen Amaya? Do you know what her role in the story would be in your rewrite? I heard that she was supposed to be evil with her husband. Honestly, that would’ve been better than her just being there. There are questions about her and her husband that were not answered, like why would King Mannifico want an apprentice when he could have a child with his Queen to pass on his role to. I remember another reviewer of this movie saying that he believes that Asha should’ve been King Mannifico's daughter, which would’ve raised the stinks and made more sense on why King Mannifico would share his secrets with Asha.
But back of my question, what role would Queen Amaya have in your rewrite, or would you just cut her out of the story?

      @gotchuentertainment  8 месяцев назад +19

Thanks, yeah I agree with you all the way I would have rather seen a sympathetic villain here.
As for Queen Amaya I see her as mostly unchanged. It’s her guidance that keeps the king levelheaded but even she could raise a question once the unrest amongst the people starts, that can be what sends him truly over the edge, the idea that even his wife has turned on him when that is obviously not the case. Then she serves as Asha’s man-on-the-inside as she does in the original and is the reigning monarch by the end. Except, instead of sending Magnifico to the dungeon perhaps she’ll hang him in her quarters, occasionally seek direction as Asha try’s to cure him, play into the “mirror mirror on the wall” idea.

Perhaps Magnifico's wish was to have an heir whose magic abilities that surpasses his own and can grant flawless wishes
This wish results in the creation of Star. The king is unaware of this and mistakenly thinks his wish somehow caused his wife never to get pregnant.
This mirrors stories like Rapunzels and Sleeping Beauty were a chacter is the long lost child of the king and queen.
Star could get a physical body at some point from another wish or other plot device.

What a great take for the story, there's so much room for really emotional scenes that would make you on the verge of crying just because how heart-wrenchingly tragic the backstory and how beautiful the outcome of it all would be. It‘s really a bummer to see what potential that story had, and I strongly believe they had writers with equally good ideas for the plot / characters, who were seriously held back by Cooperate Side™️ this time around - like, muchMUCH more than usual.

Regarding a catastrophic wish where plants and animals started talking back, people may hesitate or outright refuse to harvest or hunt them for food, and so a famine may occur. Not from lack of resources but lack of action towards those resources due to guilt in ending the lifespan of something sentient. Imagine asking your chicken for permission to serve them to your children, and they says NO

I've gotta be honest in saying that I think Magnifico had a lot of great potential to be a better villain. I honestly don't think it's a stretch to think that Magnifico could have been a Disney villain reminiscent of the MCU's Thanos in terms of motivation. The movie introduces Magnifico's obsession with controlling wishes because he overthinks the fears of much of a threat certain wishes are. And I honestly think that could've been emphasized without the forbidden magic concept since his motivation for doing so came from bandits killing his family. The trauma could've led him to realize just how dangerous a wish for something could be, and then, in turn, take it upon himself to decide what wishes should and should not be granted. I also think that this would be better emphasized if we see that his wife is 9 months pregnant, and the fear he has for wishes not in his control leads him to using his unborn child as motivation to oppose Asha's attempt to grant every wish. That would've made for great character development, as well as give an animated Disney villain the most tragic backstory in all of Disney. But this movie ultimately decided to turn him into a generic villain, which I feel he didn't have to be. I also would've liked it if the story revolved around Asha secretly using Star to grant everyone's wishes, only to realize that some of the wishes she granted kind of backfired and shouldn't have been granted in the first place, making Magnifico right about why he does what he does, but still misguided on how he's doing it.

Honestly, I’d only change two things. First, I’d showcase that people are unhappy in the kingdom, but don’t know why. That establishes that there’s something wrong and worth rebelling against.
Second, I’d give the king a chance at redemption after realizing that the evil magic of the book really had taken over his mind. Have his wife pledge to find a cure and not to give up because, despite everything, she still loves him, and he does love her.
Basically, show that it was the power of the book that truly corrupted him but that with enough time and effort he will be free again. I feel like omitting the chance of redemption was a serious mistake in a world that seems increasingly polarized.
With these two changes I feel like the rest of the story stands as is. I enjoyed it, but felt it lacked maturity.

That's an awesome rewrite, but I would justify Magnifico's corruption with the nature of his own wish-granting magic, which is a double-edged sword: If he retained one's wish without granting it for a period of time, it would automatically return to the original owner of this wish. However, it could be dangerous as that means some citizens may become evil again once their evil wishes returned to him, so Magnifico absorbed all malicious wishes himself. Initially he still had enough willpower to endure those desires, yet with the increasing number of unfeasible/greedy wishes made, his mind was continuously corrupted by those evil thoughts.

  • @pumpkin2986

Honestly, an example of Magnifico done right is Spiderverse 2. Miguel is someone whose past trauma turned him into a paranoid man in need of total control, who sees himself as the sole decider over canon. He starts out as fairly down to earth and likeable character, but gets driven into more and more brutal actions. Replace canon events with wishes, replace losing his daughter with losing his home and you have a good model for what Magnifico could have been like.

Magnifico can’t really be seen as an always villain like the Queen from Snow White, Maleficent, Lady Tremaine, Jafar, Clayton, Medusa, McLeach, Ursula etc because you do see him have a history of kindness & he has a mate who he has been kind to unlike the rest of the pure villains.

Which is why I think they should have played up the fact that his actions were the result of fear and past trauma, made his villain song more along the lines of "Hellfire" where he expresses his torment in his fears for his kingdom, and through that, is tempted to use the forbidden magic. And redeem him in the end, especially through his wife's love.

I wonder how years it took Fairy Godmother Asha finally approached Magic Mirror Magnifico in the far future... I would love to see Magic Mirror Magnifico said "I Told You So" to her. I wish there will be Wish 2 (either in a movie or in a comic book) to see if Fairy Godmother Asha actually realized Bad Wishes exist in the fairy-tale world.
I saw Wish, I saw ALL of the Wishes including the crushed ones RETURN to people whom are so selfish for demanding more. Not just GOOD wishes returning, the BAD wishes are returning as well! That act will created more bad people as you can see many villains, many selfish people, and angry mobs in all fairy-tale stories. From what I read stories about granting a wish, many people forgot why there are rules about granting a wish for a reason... Wishes are actually two faces of a coin, it can either go to the right way or go to the wrong way. That's why Vague ones are actually dangerous because nobody predict which actions will lead to in the future - especially what kind of their desires and dreams capable of changing based on their emotions and thoughts.

From what has been mention, I’d start by clearing out the clutter, get rid of the extra unnecessary friends, keep the ones that gave something to contribute to the story, get rid of Valetino or at least don’t have him talk, apparently the star was supposed to have a bigger roles, give it to the star. Give Asha a direction in the film, from what’s been said she seems like a caricature of Disney princesses, a carbon copy that doesn’t make sense.
I like your previous king story, a well intentioned wish with consequences. Do a 2D traditional animation film, in fact, I’d change the settings to a more Mediterranean area, like Italy, as it would make sense with the previous king’s story of the kingdom of endless sun. Plus, Pinocchio (the movie that started the wishing upon a star concept) is an Italian tale set in the alps I believe, so it would make sense of this setting to take place around the region. Also it would make sense with the character ethnicities and a kingdom that had people of different parts of the sea. Italy is more diverse than given credit, so a character like Asha would make sense of her background of being mixed race, while other characters are different backgrounds from white, Latino, moor, and black. Maybe Arabian, depending if the kingdom was close to the seas for easy port for trading. Imagine if the setting was someplace like Venice.
Sorry, went into world building, something I don’t think this story had and that really makes it fall apart by not doing that, so your idea is really a good concept that should have been explored.

I would defiantly have Asha feel horrible after Magnifico is defeated and start to question whether she was right in just freely unleashing this power upon the world with no restriction. However, after granting Saba's wish and hearing his song she does become inspired. She decided to remove herself from the equation, allowing people to make their own happiness, but silently watching over them to intervene when they truly need her.

If i would rewrite wish, its hard for me to see magnifico as a villain since he isn't wrong about you cant grant every wish and that he is more of a tragic hero. Also for his backstory. So i would have this adventure and save the soul of the hero from evil situation. How it will start is like how the movie starts but skip to when asha is having an interveiw with magnifico to be his apprentice. I will take out her ambition to as if he can grant her grandfather wish. Because lets say she hears of what he said of not granting every wish. She still not happy about that, but doesn't do anything to get her in trouble with him and thinks maybe she can learn some magic and grant the wish for her grandfather herself. So she then passes the interview and magnifico starts her training by having her read certain books he has picked for her to study and learn from. Anyways time skips and asha is getting frustrated because she learns magic, but magnifico doesn't have her chose any wishes yet. She gets annoyed and determined to get her grandfather wish to happened. So late one night she left to go wish on a star. And the star came at her like it did with the movie, he changes into a form of a human boy, they had a discussion of why she made that wish. After they talk for a while he takes her back to the castle where she explains to the star more quietly of what she wants to trying to do. But while she does she notice a bright green sinister light. That was hypnotic to her as She then follows the light wondering what it was. She then sees a ominous book locked in a glass case. She was confused and curious as she slowly reached to open the case. But the star stand in the way with using red threads to block her from reaching the book. She gets irritated and shouted at the star quietly. The star is trying to communicate to her that they shouldn't touch anything over here. She tries to get through the treads and opens the case to get the book out. Once she has it she opens it to see what it reads.the dark hold magic book then whispers to her to read a certain page. She was about to then suddenly heard someone coming and ran out of the castle with the book. The king finds out about the book missing and is terrified of who could have now got the book. Asha runs as fast as she can until she reaches home to read the book. While doing so she was unaware are a dark evil spirit from the book was about to take control of her. As she reads the page, then the star start acting strange too, as asha passes out. Then the evil being in the book took over asha body and began to use asha magic to create chaos. King magnifico sees this happens in the kingdom as asha creates a wand to control the star and charges back to the castle to the room of wishes. Magnifico made sure to come up with a strategy to stop asha seeing that, this wasn't truly her, but something else. Asha is somewhat conscious but was not in control she sees of whats happening and is shocked of what she did. She is like no this isn't what i wanted. She even sees the star in his star from look like he is restricted by a wand in her hand. The king then comes in and restricted asha with his magic to make a steel wrap around her to hold her still from using her magic. Her body struggles to move as he sees that the true asha is still in there and is feeling guilt already. King magnifico has asha place somewhere not to far away while he has the star to help him find a solution to save asha. But while they did asha has a mental battle with the evil spirit. But loses the first try which causes her to break free, she then drags the star with magic to the wish room and to make sure to lock magnifico out as the evil spirit uses the star magic to change to darkness and grant the wishes to be nightmares. More chaos happens while the citizens fight the and try to survive thier corrupt wishes. King magnifico saves his people by taking away all of the wishes and make sure his citizens were safe. He then blews up the door and has a magical duel with possessed asha who was helping him to fight back the evil spirit. The star then gives the king the answer to help save asha. He does the spell to help separate the evil spirit from asha while the star pulls her to him and hugs her tight. The king was able to separate the evil spirit and traps it in a mirror. Asha and rosas was saved as asha realized of how reckless she was all just for her grandfather wish. She begs the king to forgive her. King magnifico kneels down to her level and assured her that she is forgiven, but she now has to do something to make up for her mistakes. She understood with a nod, As he then gives her a gentle compassionate hug as a form of true love of friendship and mentorship from her teacher. Then they use their magic together to fix the kingdom asha then sees that her grandfather wasn't worried about his wish and wants peace. She smiles as peace was restored. Thats what i would have changed.

In the concept arts, based on the king & queen's skin color, I wish they were Asha's parents (no pun intended).
Since in previous movies, some of the mothers are depicted to be evil (step momma from Cinderrella and Tangled) so I personally want the queen to be the pure evil mother hiding in plain sight.
Meanwhile the father, Magnifico, is like the good man but misguided because of something or someone, a good king who is corrupted by the book *and* the queen. Those 2 become the evil power couple while the 2 heroes (Asha and Starboy) try and stop her parents from achieving power something idk. That's what I wish it turned out anyway

for my rewrite i made the star the villain and it grants wishes really recklessly to seed chaos that eventually drives magnifico to the forbidden book which requires the power of a star to cast and striking a deal with the star and casting the spell corrupts him because its too much power and the star is doing this because it corrupts wishmakers to turn them into stars to seed more chaos across the cosmos. i love hearing everyone's ideas for rewrites. I like the idea of Magnifico's backstory being him seeing what happens when wishes go wrong. One (just for fun) scene I came up with goes like this:
There's a large crowd of people gathered, watching someone get a wish granted.
Generous person: I don't really have anything I need for myself, so I wish that everyone gathered here could have a Wish instead!
Magnifico (cheerfully): Now how could I not grant such a generous wish? Wish granted!
Little kid: Cool! I wish to blow up! I mean _grow_ up. (Promptly explodes into sparkles)
    Magnifico: Oh my God!
    Mother: My boy! He's dead!
Father: Hmmph, I wish I had a smarter kid, a girl this time. (A little girl with glasses appears)
Daughter: Thank you, Papa. I wish you a long and happy life.
Mother: I don't want a daughter! I wish my boy was back and she was gone! (The son reforms from all the sparkles while the girl disappears with a surprised yelp).
    Magnifico: This is horrible!
Chaos erupts as people keep making bad wishes. Kids turning into dinosaurs or flying around. People wishing for tons of money and getting buried in gold, etc.
Magnifico: I wish everyone would stooooop... (Time starts slowing down) except for me (he returns to normal speed) and all of my advisors (his advisors get normal speed while the rest of the world is frozen).
Old advisor: Quick thinking sir. "I wish that all wishes made in the last five minutes aside from the father's wish for a daughter and her wish for her father to have a happy life were undone as if they never happened." (The world promptly rearranges as the wishes get undone. Soon everyone is standing back where they were, thinking over the chaos that had happened).
Magnifico: Okay, shows over. From now on all wish-grantings are private and no spectators! And you (points to the family, now with a new daughter) if you feel you need and help with (gestures their whole situation) _anything_ then I'd be happy to help sort things out.
I know something like this would be a bit darker and sillier than Disney movies would normally go, but I think "You have to be very careful on what wishes you grant because people are _stupid_ and will wish for stupid stuff." Is a very understandable thought process for a wish-granting villain to have. Or there are specific wishes that put him in a bad mood.
Nerdy kid: I wish for... a million wishes!
Magnifico: Pfft! Bwahaha! Oh wait, you're serious? You think you can just walk in here and wish for me to be your _slave_ for _life_ for _free_ !!? Here's an idea: Wish for some common sense! You know what? Forget it, you're on the List. No wishes for you... ever! (Has the kid's name written up on a big list and throws him out).
Meanwhile Asha is just standing there shocked at her mentor going off like this.
Magnifico: Ugh, sorry. (Massages his forehead) That might have been a bit harsh... it's just it kinda gets me when people think they can game the system. Wishes are precious... and dangerous. And I don't need a bunch of _nerds_ trying to outsmart me to get more wishes instead of just figuring out what exactly they need. If they can't think of one wish they actually want, what do they hope to do with a million?
So, he could be a pretty generous king who wants the best for his people, but it's clear that he thinks most people would either be stupid with wishes, or dangerously clever for the wrong reasons.

Some thiefs use it to steal. if Disney had the guts, it could've even been that someone wishes for smth bad in a fight and then regrets it.
Like "I wished you'd leave me alone" or smth, with the other person forgetting them, not being family anymore or even dying.

So I tried to rewrite the story myself and I ran with the idea of the concept art "king and queen are both villains" and I perhaps made Magnifico a star as well but to keep himself tethered to earth he needs people's wishes to create fake sky. And, of course, since the queen loves her king, she willingly participates in this. Also also Magnifico decided to 'stay' on earth after seeing what kind of disaster one wrong wish brought to humans - his conclusion was that it was better to control the situation himself, thus why he has that 'higher morality being' thinking of himself-
Though, I would appreciate tips from you, since I'm not much of a writer aha

The more I learn about Wish, the more I keep trying to re-write the disappointments people had. Over on The Writer's Block video "Um... Did A.I Write Disney's Wish???" I put together a pitch I've revised here:

Well in the actual movie he does become more corrupted by his power as he becomes more powerful and the theme of corruption by power is evident. Don’t forget that the good queen his wife was in love with him he showed no cruelty or oppression of her in the beginning and when he turned on her and threatened her she was shocked and so then turned on him. Person O was with who saw the movie with me thought of him more as a good guy turned villain than aa a villain from the very beginning it just wasn’t a shock twist villain. The male friend that turned on Asha reported her to Magnifico for his own gain is a secondary villain & betrayer which was even worse but he was forgiven & not seen as a villain. I still look at Magnifico as a villain that was formerly decent consumed by power which adds depth to his character & power does indeed corrupt.

I wanted Disney to really lean into their 100 years of animation history by incorporating 2D/3D into the story itself. Like when you give Magnifico your wish, you become 2D. Only Asha and Magnifico can tell, even the Queen is 2D and doesn't realize it.
8:38, did you sit through the credits? That's basically the post credit scene and it was delightful.

Disney would never write a story like this, not today. They just can't write good stories.

i kinda wanted if Magnifico was surpose to be a really evil person. i would kinda have it like you told in your rewrite. as Magnifico is a good person. but when he starts useing the book, it kinda starts warping his mind and body. like he looks more haggered and gaunt/withered, as his body can't really deal with the power and the maddness that said power has. Plus it would be interesting if granting wishes could also be the opposite, that one can grant a person's deepest fear/what they dread the most to come true oh and the whole breaking of people's wishes, it could be when they are shattered, they don't know how to do said thing. as in if Magnifico's gift of makeing someone a great tailor, then well when the wishes is shattered, said tailor basicly dosen't know no matter how much they try to actually do tailoring. same way with muscisians.

Hi! I'm Cleo, and animation major inspired by your video. I was wondering if you (or anyone reading this) would like to join me and some fellow artists, writers and actors on creating a rewritten version of Wish! I think you have some of the most solid story ideas yet, and would contribute a great deal, if you're interested!
If anyone here is, feel free to reply. I'd love to get more collaborators exploring the project!

I feel that "terrible" isn't a strong enough word to describe this movie. I completely understand why people tore this movie apart because...we were basically lied to about what this movie was going to be. And worst of all, it's the movie that Disney used to celebrate its one-hundredth year anniversary - that's the absolute worst part - ending things on a very low note. This might actually be Disney's worst animated movie. The story is predictable and confusing. The characters are boring and unrelatable. The humor wasn’t funny. The music, which is often one of the best things in a Disney movie, also isn't very good. We see the potential the movie has, but it was completely ignored. There was nothing redeemable about this movie at all. I mean, how did Magnifico's old kingdom perish; why do you forget about your wish when you give it away; how are people aware if their wishes are granted or not; why did Magnifico use the black magic book before Star became a real threat; how does magic work in this land; how did the Star come down to Earth; why have the whole movie be filled with references; etc.
Why was Magnifico even a villain in the movie? From the very start of the movie, it is explained that he did whatever he could to make a peaceful and welcoming kingdom. He grants the wishes of his people, and desires to protect. He even refuses to grant wishes that are too vague out of fear that it might bring ruin to the kingdom. Because of this, the kingdom is thriving, and all the people love and respect him. I'm sorry, but that's not at all what a villain is. And suddenly he's the bad guys simply because...to be the bad guy? Having him use a book full of dark magic, despite being fully aware that he will become completely possessed by it? Forcing someone into the villain role is downright annoying. Asha is very awkward and quirky when she really doesn’t have to be. Plus, she doesn’t really do anything, nor does she learn a valuable lesson, or grow as a character. Asha, honestly, doesn’t deserve to be the next wish granter because she hasn’t really accomplish anything - whereas Magnifico actually worked hard and went through hardships to gain his power. So in a way, Asha is the real villain; because all she did was complain and imprisoned a man who brought peace and unity to his kingdom. Star was pointless, because all it did was make animals talk, bring plants to life, and was there to be cute. Valentino was also quite useless, because he didn’t bring anything. Even Asha’s seven are basically irrelevant.
Why not have Asha be part of the natives from Rosa, who are also naturally gifted in "healing magic". Asha, having the most potential out of all her people, becomes Magnifico's first and only apprentice. She finds out that Magnifico only grants wishes that are harmless to his position in power, and the rest are left in the vault - but in reality, he absorbs those wishes to further fuel his already powerful magic…and maybe he was the real reason for his old kingdom's downfall. Asha uses her magic to unintentionally cause a star to land on Earth. As Magnifico is aware that the star's power actually eclipses his own, and uses the dark book to become powerful enough to steal Star's magic. Asha, remembering her grandfather's and late father's words about wishes, is able to encourage everyone to take back their wishes as they have the power make them real. Star escapes the staff's mirror and imprisons Magnifico in his place. While the kingdom of Rosas repairs itself, Amaya is revealed to be the true mastermind behind all of Magnifico's evil deeds; and vows to one day free her beloved husband. Or why not have Asha be Magnifico and Amaya’s adopted or biological daughter - imagine having to battle your own parents in order to save your home.
Another version is Asha doesn’t know what she really wants - as she has all she needs, plus is very helpful and reliable in Rosas. Magnifico still refuses to grant Sabino’s vague wish, and explains that his old kingdom was destroyed because a being from the stars granted everyone’s wish and caused mayhem to spread. The being than abandoned everyone as the kingdom tore itself apart (Magnifico and Amaya being the only survivors). Asha wishes upon a star and Star appears, and the two grant most of the wishes - however, Star, still not in full control of his powers, unintentionally causes mayhem and disorder. Magnifico, aware he is not powerful enough to stop all the chaotic magic hesitantly uses the dark book. Sabino suffers a heart attack during a scuffle, and regrets not being able to inspire people with his music - but Asha reveals that his music made people happy and inspired them to help others - Sabino dies peacefully in his sleep. Magnifico steals Star’s magic, but Asha is able to realize the magic that all people have and their connection to the stars. Magnifico is defeated and imprisoned. Leaving his kind wife to replace him as ruler. Amaya and Asha promise to find a way to free and cure Magnifico. Asha learns that Magnifico had a system to keep everyone safe from themselves, and that not every wish should be granted. Star, aware he’s not meant to live in this world, gives Asha a wand made of his magic - they share a kiss before he returns among the other stars.

After your opening line of saying that you love a story about a good guy turning into a bad guy, I was done with this video. Parents take their CHILDREN to animated films for fun entertainment, and hopefully, a little reinforcing about why it is important to be "good". Showing children how good guys turn into bad guys is not on a parent's agenda. We like how the Grinch's heart "grew three times bigger" that day. When good guys turn selfish and evil, you wind up with narcissists, tyrants, abusers and terrorists. The world doesn't need more people like that. Even if it is "just a story".
