Omg 😂 this scene is still emotional as ever I'm 45 and grew up on Dallas and from the area, the little scenes like these about Jr and jock were ways the best ,showed how much Jr respected and loved jock,
Brilliant scene. Thanks for posting it. It was moving to watch . JR got his ruthless side from his father and jock loved and respected him. Dallas always had fantastic story lines and every episode kept us hooked.
It was said that Bobby was Jock’s favorite but JR had the greatest scenes and connection to Jock and every viewer knew it. JR was his daddy’s son more than he realized! I never tired of JR talking about his father because JR loved and worshipped his daddy..
Saxon C It was definitely clear to me that Jock favoured JR but he also loved Bobby very much, it’s nice to see Ellie being so sweet to JR she really did love him even if she did favour Gary and Bobby
you know, when Jock had JR, he treated him like his best friend. just the minor things like them going out drinking together, or hunting, or when JR would tell stories of how Jock took him to the oil rigs and wells and he could find his way out of anywhere. Bobby was Jock's son. he was the baby, and had the good moral fiber that JR lacked. Jock said it himself....he taught him about big business, gave him the fire for it, but never taught him when to stop. and when Bobby was made JR equal, after all the years of hard work and dedication he felt very slighted....not remembering that Jock gave JR the company when he retired. Jock Loved JR so very much....when JR was shot, it was all Jock could do to not go after Cliff Barnes, the man he thought had tried to kill his son. a very complex relationship between them, because Jock saw his eldest much more as a hanging buddy than a son, but JR never realized that Jock considered him his best friend.
The difference between the relationships between JR/Jock and Bobby/Jock was that Bobby is the only one of Jock's 4 sons who stood up to Jock. Bobby twice stood up to Jock when he tore into Digger Barnes at the 1st Ewing BBQ, The season 2 episode where Gary returns home, and at the Oil Barons club. JR never in Jock's 4 seasons on the show stood up to him the way Bobby did. Jock praised Bobby for what he did.
In fairness, television had changed. There is so much less time with commercials, etc, fewer episodes. The new series never had the time to truly develop into something good.
Truly beautiful moment, Larry Hagman was a class act, could just feel the emotion in this touching scene, been that more beautiful if the letter would of been finished "just remember your my son, from tip to tail" just like J.R. said to John Ross in the new generation series :p
If JR had more of those moments with his parents, maybe he wouldn't have turned out such a miserable man after all. Still, I still loved the character more than any other.
David Thomas That’s true-Miss Ellie was a kind, gentle sweet lady, but never cross her when she’s holding a loaded shotgun. She’ll shoot your ass off with one shot.
@@maryhlad5277 She was sweet but when she got mad oh boy that was scary, even JR was shook. reminds me of my sister who is never mad at anybody, she can't even get mad at her children when they do a bad thing but at some point a neighboor was making it difficult for my mother at her house and the lioness in my sister came out. I had never seen anything like it. I trully believe there's a tempest living inside the best people and that is because they never do anything bad and they keept their dark passion inside and it bottles up on and on. So when it comes up....oh boy.
Jouq Ewing true legend in that time Jim Davis was the perfect role for it someone who was tough and wasn't afraid to say or speak his mind or put a foe in his place
Holy crap, I'm actually crying. Jock loves his sons, and I think Bobby being the baby boy is his favourite. But deep down he knew J.R. is the only son he has who has the Right Stuff to carry the Ewing name and carry continue his empire
You should always write letters so your descendants can know this and give some insight to who you were! I still have letters that my grandmother sent me as a teenager!
This is as good a scene as the one when Jock was alive in Season 3. Jock said to JR angrily....How much did we lose.....JR with a large smirk said....We just made a killing. He did know those Asian wells were nationalised and sold 75% to the Cartel. Even though he still owned 25% he was still in huge profit. Then he over-turned the government in Asia and had them De-nationalised and both he and the Cartel were quids in. JR of course collected royalties on the Cartels share. He had Afton of course to assist him as she seduced Cliff and he stole Cliffs evidence and over-turned it with his own menoevres.
Season 13. JR beds Diana Farrington because Cally told him she slet with Alex Barton. It was all during the sunk tanker storyline. Michelle catches James in the sack with Diana because he switches places with JR and Cally arrives at the hotel. James says it was 'business' and Michelle replies businsss is in the boardroom....sex is in the bedroom. At the end of the season JR kicks Cally out and admits himself into the funny farm to get Weatstar voting rights from Claytons sister Jessica.
jock always said keep your enemies close and your friends closer jr was keep your friends close and enemies closer. which i always thought made more sense.
That is NO WHERE NEAR how a Housemaid dresses, this is the late 80's coming into the 90's so that's how a woman dressed at that age then. A Housemaid dresses black and white, your perception is flawed as is your life.
This was a bit silly, JR wasn't known as "John Ross" when he was a kid. If you remember correctly he was known as "Junior" was was mentioned quite a number of times by Miss Ellie. He was John Ewing Jnr when Jock was alive and John Ewing 2nd when Jock died.
Super Firmino yes but JR was his only son and a young boy growing into his identity still and he was called by his full name by the man he was named after.
Yeah that would've been bad ass, had Jock wrote in his letter from tip to tail. The one thing the new Dallas should also do is bring some of the music back from the original.
I somewhat disagree. When I watched the TNT reboot after Larry Hagman passed they overused the phrase " from tip to tail" way too much. It got to the point that I almost stopped watching the show over it. I also don't recall many early year scenes where Jock was a hunter with hunting dogs. Although it has been over 20 years since I watched the original series. I also wasn't happy with the TNT casting of John Ross Ewing III. I think in someways Jesse Metcalfe looks more like Jock and JR. Oddly I think Josh Henderson looks more like Kristin Shepard and Jeff Farraday. That would be Christopher's biological parents. Although Sue Ellen was a drunk when she was pregnant with John Ross maybe that is why he looks so puny?
Larry Hagman is a wonderful actor yes, but as human being in real life he treated Donna Reed like dirt. I know Larry did not care for Donna as Miss Ellie. But Larry still could have treated her with a little respect. Larry and Donna are not perfect people. So, I forgive them both.

Bobby was my favourite
JR was amazing. Ruthless, but he had to be. The oil industry is cut-throat.
But he loved his mom and dad.
What a legend.
Yeah these millionaire business men are all rubbish people..
Yes, it IS cut-throat; but you DON'T turn on your family or oppress people!

From jocks letter to JR , To JR's Master piece . They loved their sons
One of the few times Miss Ellie showed kindness to JR.
Well, he was certainly a wonderful son. 😂
Dad, I miss you, I love you. And I won't let those bastards get me down.
RIP Miss Ellie, Jock and J.R.
Best show ever

sometimes it felt like dallas didn't have enough of these real life momments really sweet momment between jr and miss ellie
My goodness what a great scene. When Miss Ellie looks at Jock's portrait...that's DALLAS, something the new series jusr didn't capture.
In fairness, television had changed. There is so much less time with commercials, etc, fewer episodes. The new series never had the time to truly develop into something good.

One of the best scenes between JR and his mother.
Completely agree
Touching scene. 2 best actors who still loved Jim Davis
No Bobby or Clayton
There will be only one J.R. Ewing, and that's Larry Hagman. R.I.P, Larry.
Miss Ellie. The only woman JR was ever loyal to.
Miss Ellie was a kind, gentle, and sweet woman. She was the sweetest woman on TV.

JR was true to the spirit of Jock and he never let those bastards get him down
No question!!! One of the most emotional scenes in Dallas
That was because, of course, Jim Davis, who played John Ross "Jock" Ewing Sr., died in real life.
jr made dallas rip larry
love jr. best show ever..

Dallas is a great show thanks for this video 📸 wonderful characters 😊❤
This was ny dad's favorite show 😢 watching it for rhe first tine❤
Jock ran JR, he was the only man that JR couldn't mess with or disrespect. I truly believe JR feared Jock, but he loved him at the same time.
Happy 40th anniversary DALLAS
Yes this scene always makes me choke up.
One of the few times that Ellie was a true mother to JR.
JR had the best scenes with Jock too
This is season 9 episode 13. I watch this every few weeks.
No it's not season 9, it's season 13 (If you include the mini-series as Season 1).

What was bringing JR down ?
Seems he got the lift he needed.
Jr was kindest when it came crunch only makeing way in life
Crazy TV show . .
For all the dysfunction, infidelity, selfishness, sex, corruption and hippocracy; it could get real close to the heart.
larry hagman was and always was the best
Barbara Bel Geddes ( Miss Ellie) the best 😍👍
Touching moment
Today, Dallas could use AI to turn Hagman ageing JR into young Tony Nelson.
Which season and episode was this one, please?
But Miss Ellie, too.
Larry Hagman as the Voice of Jock
Wonder who did Jocks voice over? any toughts?
Larry Hagman
Too bad Emmy ignored Hagmans most honest scene ever! Worthy of an Emmy.
I get chills watching that! Anyone know what season that was?
season 13
