- HODINKEE Radio presents a new podcast and video series hosted by founder Ben Clymer. The Collector’s Edition provides listeners with an inside look at the art of collecting and what it means to be an enthusiast. The conversation will cover watches, of course. But it won't stop there. For its inaugural episode, Ben sits down with none other than multi-Grammy Award winner and noted watch collector Ed Sheeran. In the episode, the two take a deeper look at his interest in watches, what lead him to start collecting, and a whole lot more.

Too late hahaha - hey it was worth it to watch this vid, absolutely brilliant chat!
It hurts so bad. I avoided RUclips comment sections ever since 'hans solo dies' I don't know what's real anymore 😂
Too late. I was looking forward to seeing that movie, but I should have seen it sooner to be fair
Haha...I was straight to the comments to check the fallout after that
@@rustknuckleirongut8107 I don’t like watching movie trailers because I feel like there’s hella spoilers and they always in RUclips ads smh
This is like the old skool talking watches! Fair play Ben! Please do not stop making these videos yourself! This is the absolute best in the industry!
Say-ko, not see-ko
Just a pity about Ed buying a hublot as his first "big" watch 😂
Hey Nico, maybe they could have you on to talk about your Hublot collection?🤓
Love you man !! You are so incredible !!! Cheers from sait. Tropez
bruh do u like hublot?
Dear lord...The watch series we didn't know we needed but now absolutely crave. You've set a high bar for yourself, Hodinkee.
He’s been selected as a season?
That ought to put a spring in his step.
Crazy how influential John is in the watch community. Has influenced members of Hodinkee, celebrities, his fans.
It was John who also gave me a different look on music!
it is crazy how we can just say "John" when talking within the community and everyone knows which John. I liked his music before I knew of his love for watches, which would be when the first ep of taking watches came out.
Mayernaise
I strangely had never heard of John Mayer until I heard of him through Hodinkee years ago
John is a master story teller. I think he could sell ice to eskimos
Been waiting for this for ages! Such a great chat.
Also, kudos to the camera operator for trolling the community by focusing on the travel clock and not the talent! 😂
😂
lololol I didn't notice it was on the travel clock but did notice it wasn't on them lol
Timestamp?
your channel is very very very brilliant wow! you truly love and know watches
I can't even describe how much I wished this collab would happen especially since everyone knows Ed is a big collector. Great video!!
THIS, THIS, THIS RIGHT HERE is the podcast/meeting I have been waiting for. Arguably one of the most legendary watch collectors (who is incredibly discreet about it) meeting with the best curator of all thing watches. Thank you for doing this.
I honestly didn’t expect to want to sit through an almost hour upload BUT that went surprisingly fast!
Thank you Ed & Ben & Hodinkee crew for this discussion. Fantastic!
So stoked for this series!
Can we get Ed, Ben, & John in a long form round table talk eventually as well?
Pretty please???
I loved the “My first watch was a Hublot, Don’t judge me” hahaha EPIC 😂
What a genuinely decent human being, everytime Ben went into something remotely near drama it was just swerved. I love seeing people who are clearly interested in items for more than it being a flex. This is proper old school Hodinkee content. Ben is a great interviewer too.
This goes to show, even watch collectors even they are a celebrity are still the nicest people out there
I disagree. Putin is a watch collector. George Soros is a watch collector. Saddam Hussein was a watch collector. Che Guevara and Fidel Castro were watch collectors, the typically hypocritical leftists often wore two Rolexes at the same time. Kim Jong-il and Kim-Jong Un were/are watch collectors. And so on.
The lawyer Hillary Clinton hired to lie to the FBI about the Steele dossier (which is a made up packet of lies Hillary Clinton hired a foreign agent to write) to get the FBI to aid their plan to slander her rival presidential candidate with lies in addition to the media companies they had paid to systematically spread those lies totally and clearly against any journalists' principles and rules without any verification, who was convicted recently, was also a watch collector.
@@pistonburner6448 you gotta chill my man, yes there are bad watch collectors, but there are good watch collectors as well, and theres a lot more good than the bad.
@@hathaway.1166 Actually I just have to respond to your nonsensical comment itself: You are wrong, as I never said there aren't good watch collectors too. The claim I responded to was simply that all watch collectors are the nicest people. I stated in response that it isn't correct to state that "all watch collectors are the nicest people", because many watch collectors are not the nicest people. I am right, and I proved that.
And as to your assertion that there are a lot more good watch collectors than bad, I can theoretically disprove that too: not only crime statistics, but psychology studies of how dishonest, self-serving, thieving, corrupt people are indicates that the overwhelming majority of people are not "good". Even when measuring at the age groups where people are most "good". I'm not taking at all into account the age ranges where people tend to be so incapacitated as to not be _able_ to act "not good". Then taking to account what positions, professions, what kinds of status watch collectors have it only strengthens the numbers of them NOT being "good". Then taking into account the personality types, the drive that gets people to buy watches that even further lessens the ratio of "good" people in that group.
As a very raw estimate based on very imprecise numbers, I'd say that watch collectors are at least 85% not "good" for the moral, less strict meaning of "good" as people who do bad to other people, steal, exploit, are engaged in corruption and/or benefit from corruption and so forth for their own gain at the expense of others; and at least 65% not "good" in the stricter western legal sense of the word.
The world just officially became a better place. If this is Ep1...... im so HYPE
How can a 48 minute video be too short!? Man please just put Ed, Mayer, and Ben in a room and let them talk for 8 hours and ill take the day off 😊
i swear i would look at the time stamp and it seemed to skip forward by 15 mins every 5 minutes. strange...
Good call!
👀
Funnily enough they just did that exactly! Except for the 8 hours part.
I come from the future, they made a 80 minute video with Mayer as a Host and Ed as a guest 👀
Kudos to Ed’s nod to Ben and Hodinkee. Speaks well of his appreciation and genuine interest of watches, but also his humility.
That was fun. Setting a very high standard with this first episode. Really looking forward to what’s to come!
Didn't know you were a watch enthusiast Lowko! Cheers from a SC2 fan!
Fellow SC2 and Lowko fan here too
@@enriquesb1528 Have been pretty much all my life! :)
Damn, this was so unexpected. I'm a big fan of your work and didn't know you were a watch enthusiast, that's amazing.
can there be an episode on Lowko's watch collection please!
Now this is what Hodinkee should be doing monthly. Great interview, great format. Always good to see Ben.
I met Ed recently…didn’t ask for a selfie with him, I asked for a wrist shot of our watches. Being a very nice chap he said yes. He was wearing the Tiffany Patek…
Awesome, what were you wearing?
@@LC-be I was wearing a 1950’s Jaeger LeCoultre Powermatic with an automatic bumper movement… he said he liked it.
Tiffany colored dial?
@@arseniyvdovin3183 no….the one he is wearing in this video.

Really loved this conversation and I look forward to future episodes and the talking watches with Ed.
Love Ed. Saw his show a few years ago with my wife and seems like a great, down to earth guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. Nothing but love for this young man!

Thank you Hodinkee for understanding the kind of content we want. Plain and straight interview, long enough for an actual conversation, it’s perfect.
Great conversation, I love how Ed is so modest, It's like he's almost embarrassed about how much of a collection he has. It took some doing to draw it out. I appreciate that, great conversation, enjoyed it.
What a cool chap. I’ve never heard his songs. But I know he’s a popular pop guy. You can tell these guys are friends. Super fun casual chat. He reached superstardom at such a young age yet seems super grounded. No phone for the last 7 years. Love it.
I love the format of this new show. Just like two casual watch nerds having a great chat about watches. 👍🏼
I love watching Hodinkee but put off watching this video for almost a week, due to the 48 minute length of the video.
Having now watched it, I believe it is the best episode they’ve ever made. Great to hear 2 watch enthusiasts simply discussing their passion.
Ed Sheeran really loves talking watches. And Ben excelled in his art of interview. Can’t wait for the episode of ‘Talking Watches’ in the future.
When the Tiffany blue Patek released I literally said,
" Well you're only gonna be able to get that if you're Ed Sheeran 🙄"
Oh was I wrong 😂😂
🤣🤣 Just watching now Luke 👍
@@tunokies Slacking Jason 😉
He finally got it, Just saw some pictures of him wearing it.
Two of the coolest, most laid back- unpretentious people out there who happen to be incredible talents in their crafts.
Tremendous. Ed Sheehan and Ben Clymer. Who knew? It’s great to see and hear this kind of passion and knowledge. Feels great.
At first I didn't really see Ed Sheeran as a true watch enthusiast. I knew he had "the" watches, but when he casually mentioned Kikuchi Nakagawa, it freaking blew my mind. I'm mightily impressed, Mr. Sheeran. Also, props to Hodinkee for this series!
This could definitely been like a 3 hour/3 part series! Good job guys and thanks Ed for taking the time 🙌👏
i'm happy to hear him talk about Richard Mille. The way he explains his change in sentiment reflects my evolutive appreciation for them. They've become a status symbol more than a funky thing to wear.
YES! THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT SERIES.
Now that is what I call a good interviewer! Tired of seeing so many bad interviewers in the world, so refreshing to see someone bring out natural conversations from their guests.
Dear Ben, that was killer, thank you and it’s amazing to see you back.
One of my favorite segments. Please create more casual storytelling episodes like this. The story telling is the best part of talking watches.
Wow. That was brilliant 48 mins just flew. Can't wait to see more of these, and the Talking Watches with Ed in the future.
Even more than Mayer, Sheeran's tales about his timepieces gave them life. You really get a sense of the significance of many in his collection.
This just killed it, amazing conversation. There's still hope in the now devolving hype-crazed-watch as an investment watch hobby. Bringing back the old days of pure love of watches.

What a lovely, casual and respectful chat between 2 passionate watch collectors, so much admiration for anyone that has the determination to give up his mobile.... yes he can but we lived like that 20 years ago yet incapable nowadays. Funny old world!
Ben bringing out his best tube socks from the '80s for this one. :) Seriously though, great interview. You know that watch that Ed got on the day his child was born will be a keeper for life.
Amen. On both counts.
I am not an Ed Sheeran fan. Thought I was going to hate this and watch for a couple of minutes… 48 minutes later.. freakin awesome. What a great show.
This was FANTASTIC! Great chat and just a genuinely nice conversation about watches. Would love to see more!
Can you imagine the watches Ed must have, just to hear how he casually slides in "the piece unique stuff" when he is talking about showing ben his collection. I truly appreciate his views on collecting, and his comments about RM. You can tell he is in to watches just for the love of them, and not for what they represent as status symbols.
This was an absolute joy to watch. Gonna watch it again later with my wife.
After this video I'll care way less on the status symbol aspect of watches. Watching ED SHEERAN being so authentic on his watch passion is amazing! This video inspired me and makes me want to know more about watches and everything behind. Thank you

Ed's collection is effortlessly AMAZING
This was a fantastic discussion on all things horology. Ben, please give the watch community more of this. Ed Sheeran was a fantastic first guest…and I honestly don’t know much about him as a musician. Let’s bring back John Mayer.
Quite possibly the best piece of content H has ever put out
It was great to see his breadth of collection and his genuine appreciation of the watches.
That was a great one! But why didn't you show the Tudor to the camera? Would have loved to see it.
I’m curious as well
The world wants more of this! Ben, Ed and John pls!
That would be freaking awesome
One of the best of the hodinkee! This one and the john mayers.

Great episode. Loved Ed's perspective on collecting as well as life and its distractions. Caught myself smiling throughout the video. Looking forward to the series!
I know absolutely nothing about watches but really enjoyed this conversation.
It's amazing to me how many celebrities I have become a fan of after seeing them here. Not because I didn't like them before, more because they just weren't on my radar at all.

Really great natural dialog. It’s the right time. Watch content in general has been drifting and lacking. What a welcome new direction. Thanks.
Ed is a serious collector.......Kevin Hart would be an exceptional guest as well......his collection is no joke and the knowledge is apparent .
Great video and discussion with a great watch collector. These types of videos will separate you from most other channels, and in a good way.
Excellent discussion about life and watches etc - without focusing on the prices/investment value etc.

Sorry John Mayer but this might be the coolest Hodinkee interview yet 😂
That was an extraordinary 48 minutes. Good to see Ben in his element, long overdue
Great video. Loved every second and also Ed's opinions on the hype of certain brands, the longing for a time before phones and his general demeanour came across very well in this video. Seems like a genuine chap.

Very nice one guys, look forward to more of this, big props as well to Ed, seeing his grin when he talks about some of the watches he got, he really got the bug.
having been to hundreds of weddings, i get a bit tired of Ed's music. But i must say he's got good taste and he seems like a very chill, humble gentleman. Good interview
Always makes my day when Hodinkee drops another video. 300,000+ subscribers but still highly underrated channel.
We need more of this, Ben it’s so good to see you!
A great conversation. I loved that Ed started asking Ben questions.
43:40 Heinz 57 ketchup in pasta, I’m right with him on this one, I’ve been doing exactly the same since my uni days. I get indigestion from all the overdone elements in the sauces of most dishes, but ketchup is super reliable for me.
Love the shot of Roger Smith wearing a Rolex Explorer whilst working on his own watch.
In 2001, I was deployed to the desert. This guy who worked in the same large tent that I worked in put ketchup on EVERYTHING and lots of it. So much so that when he opened up his to go container from the other side of the tent, I could smell it. Every day for six months. Took me almost a year before I could stomach having ketchup again and, even now, I rarely have it.
Super cool seeing a real fan throw some great knowledge out there, makes you really wish you were in his circle (and not just because he surprises his buddies with what for many would be grail watches)
Love celebrity's appreciation for watches, but honestly, they are part of the reason for shortages and crazy grey market prices. They own multiples of each brand, always buy new models etc etc. Super wealthy buy Rolex's like stocks and throw them in vaults. And then average Joe who has saved for 3 years for their dream watch couldn't get it if they tried.
Ask Hodinkee and now this podcast. Jack and Ben bringing Hodinkee back! Thanks guys.

This was a really great video. Ed comes across so well, just a nice guy in a privileged position enjoying his passion of watch collecting.
A 5 year wait for ed, a multiple repeat customer! What hope for mere mortals?
15 yrs maybe
Excellent. Well done. Interesting times in terms of the culture of the watches secondary market worth vs what does a watch do for you and how does it make you feel. This interview sort of walked that line in that it represented an evolution in taste or feeling by Ed Sheeran in what he chooses to wear, purchase, etc. Well done by you as always.
