Me too @theprofessional155 I’ve seen that movie before but it was sad 😔 that Jesse died in that movie. RIP Jesse thank you for your service🫡 i cried a lot of that movie a lot. 😢
Dangit, this story always makes me cry! He tried so hard to save his friend, but he simply couldn't. He stayed with him as long as he could, trying to save him to the very end.
You can make good arguments for both sides of these two, but frankly speaking no one could have predicted what would happen with North Korean, not even the North Koreans. A country isolated from the world and strongly class segregated isn't the world they fought for. So the decision to nuke or to not to nuke wasn't really ever up to us Americas.
Man that was heartbreaking... i really need to watch Devotion. I've never wanted to cry more from a Simple History video. RIP Jesse Brown, a hero and legend.
It’s a great movie. Lot of it was filmed practically with real Corsairs and other aircraft and even though I knew how it ended it still didn’t make it any less sad.
I used to go fishing with a veteran who survived the Chosin Reservoir. Even 50 years later (this was in the early 2000's) he still had nightmares about the battle and especially the feeling of being completely outnumbered and seeing a "literal wave of humans" (his words) swarming down towards his position, each and every one of them seemingly trying to k!ll him.
My Dad was in the Korean War for two years and was injured on Triangle Hill. He got hit by shrapnel from mortar fire. And still wanted to keep fighting he didn't want to leave his company behind.
Thank you for your families services carried out by generations. Your families devotion and other veterans sacrifices allowed us Koreans to prosper and live in liberty. May god bless your family for years to come. Thank you again.
my great uncle was in the korean war during this time in the US Army. He was killed in 1952 he smothered a hand grenade he was being carried to a nearby aid station but he passed away after the medics putting bandages on him. After he died he was awarded the Medal of Honor posthumously. he’s my hero. Charles George (1932-1952) he was a Cherokee member of EBCI he was full blooded Cherokee he was give his life for his family his tribe and his home. God Bless
I remember reading Devotion and doing an independent reading project on it this year! Loved this book. One of my favorites by far. God bless these two aviators. Jesse's sacrifice will never be forgotten.
There are not many western films about the Korean War so I was elated to see Devotion. I wish HBO would make a miniseries about the Korean War next following Masters of the Sky, The Pacific and Band of Brothers. And time is running out as there are now fewer Korean War veterans to interview testimonies.
Real heroes both of them! Excellent work as always Simple History! And I’ll second recommending the movie Devotion. I had an uncle in the Army’s seventh field artillery battalion who died in that battle. His body has never been recovered. Another uncle has his Purple Heart.
It is incredibly difficult to allow logic to overcome emotion. Leaving him there was a sound decision. I cannot imagine how it tore him apart to do so.
One of the F-18s belong to Jesse and Thomas' old squadron VF-32/VFA-32 painted their names under the canopy. I saw and took pictures of it during the 2022 NAS Oceana Airshow.
Even though it's not directly stated, you can tell that Ensign Jesse Leroy Brown and Lieutenant Tom Hudner were close enough they may as well have been brothers by bond. Here's praying Brown's remains are eventually recovered.
If you guys dont know there is a good movie about this with johnny majors and glenn powell, devotion, its one of the few actually good and modern korean war films.
Funny how during Black History month Jessie Leroy Brown is not brought up as he is a true hero , a pioneer in showing how black men can achieve in the largely segregated military at that time . But then again he was just a servicemen not a basketball or football player or activist so he does not get the recognition he solely deserves . The book should be a must read to everyone no matter your race or political ideology and it shows the courage Jessie Brown had to face the many obstacles he overcame . And also shows the brother hood between the two men and how Tom Hudner saw Jessie as his wingman , his friend rather than a black man . And was willing to risk his life to save his friend . Jessie Leroy Brown should never be forgotten for what he was and what he did and as long as people remember him , he is truly alive in spirit .
I remember this, the two Americans of difference ethnicities become best friends during the Korean War who fought valiantly against North Koreans, truly a heartbreaking to hear their stories as Pilots of Korean War.
Honorable Mention to Captain Conrado Yap, Filipino Tank Ace of the Korean War, credited for destroying 13 Chinese and North Korean vehicles combined. He was later shot dead by a North Korean sniper during the Battle of Yultong. His sacrifice was never in vain as the outnumbered Filipino force was able to repel the Chinese attack.
All my rants aside, I had an amazing teacher who was there. Jesse wasn’t there to “break barriers” he was there for the same every boy was. That’s what was amazing. To say that this one black dude was there to prove the quality of black Americans cheapens his loss. It was, from what I was told, a frigid nightmare and every man who was there holds it as their deepest despair. I honestly hope to never understand them. Those boys were cast out with little care.
Despite being dubbed "The Forgotten War" I have and always will stand and salute in honor of people like Brown. Not just another American, but a true hero who had a will of fire that no enemy could easily, if ever, put out. Sadly, I do believe his body and plane were both found and taken by the N. Korean government, considering their "collection" of Corsair planes. I cried and always will. Just as I do for extended family of mine that were in and survived the Bataan Death March.
Hey, was this video uploaded with a different title? I swear it was originally called something like "The Korean War Best Friends" or something similar to that.
@@cibularas3485 I wonder why? The earlier title seemed more fitting. Especially for the relationship we were able to witness on the screen when watching Devotion. Such a beautiful movie.
Always going to be a shame on American prestige that racism will always tarnish its image. No matter how far we all come there will always be someone who doesn’t see the beauty in others. My husband is Afro/Asian American and a Veteran and i am his beloved wife who matches his mother’s heritage of Japanese. My husband served because his served and he valued military service.

Nobody mention that the Soviet Union boycotted the UN Security Council vote to use UN multi national forces to fight the war. They never missed a vote since 😂 They could have veto the vote
I saw Devotion. The ending is really sad. His squad mate felt terrible guilt .

good to see u here

I wish I had seen it.

Devotion is a super underrated movie, it deserves more attention
It kind of has a gay name
Should have named it something else

It kinda came out in Top Gun Maverick's shadow, especially since Glen Powell was in both

That was a great story. I salute Jesse for his bravery. May he rest in peace.
That's true brotherhood right there.

Stories like these of the Korean War should be remembered and never forgotten.
Both of my great grandpa's fought in Korea one was a combat medic and one was a pilot

Jesse Folmar is the interesting topic to talk about. He flew F4U Corsair and shot down MiG-15.

The Korean War is often seen as America's forgotten war, hence the lack of films and books about it.
