      Maybe in Rock, yeah.
A lot of metal bands have great bass players that get a lot of presence.

The bass is such a massive part of Muse's sound. It's NEVER an after thought or something just tagged on. It's woven within the very fabric of the songs. Without these bass lines they would be SUPER lacking or flat out broken. That's not the same for most bands. Most bands you can hear their tracks without bass and yes it often makes their songs feel shallow and weak but it usually doesn't fundamentally change or break them. Matt is clearly the vision for this band but without Dom or Chris you'd be losing an even 1/3 of what makes Muse's iconic sound. Also, hearing their musical evolution like this make me appreciate their later albums more than I was aware. All of their albums are very very good.

Nathan Chesshir a lot. It's watered down, overproduced and all around just stale. The songs are bearable, sometimes even pretty good, but in general, the album is one of Muse's worst. It was the only album that didn't take their music in a new direction

It's the story of so many bassists that they start a band with friends, and they either can't play anything, so they learn bass, or the band needs a bass and they happen to be the ones not to mind as long as the band happens. Pretty impressive how many amazing musicians are born that way.
