The van is coming along nicely. I like the way you filmed the side panel installation- it's enlightening to see how much measuring and altering has to go on in a van build :)
Very helpful thanks for the detailed run through. That carpet looks a little thicker than what lots use , do you know what mm thick it is , what others use is more like a material 4 way stretch and it’s very susceptible to snags especially from Velcro
The side panels seem to take some space away from the interior. For example, your later cabinet on the right side could be a bit deeper with something that fit closer. Would this be worth the extra effort? If you did it again, would you build the cabinet and then put up the wall around it?
Hi there! Very cool video. I was wondering what the Masonite board screws anchor into? Are there wood braces or strips of some sort behind the insulation?
Thanks! Not in this build, I used self taping lath screws to attach to the metal of the van. Installing some wood strips is a good idea so it’s easier to locate a solid attachment point for the Masonite!
Great stuff. I like your industrial look ceiling. I think your panels are great too. I assume if you had to deal with wiring issues, or heaven forbid water issues later, I'm sure you can get those off and on easy, and they are not too expensive to replace, a very practical, yet attractive choice. Thanks for sharing. In the spirit of sharing, You probably already know about this option for water, but weed sprayer DIY showers are a pretty handy for sinks and showers in RVs this size.
Clean look! I can’t tell in the vid what you do on the sliding door areas-did you cut the same Masonite and carpeting for the doors that you used on the walls?
Did you drill directly into the metal van for your siding or into threaded holes? I like this set up a lot but you make it look so easy. I get it’s not super hard it’s just time consuming
Josh Oakes I've always wondered this when watching van builds also..so you can drill paneling directly into the van walls? How deep can the screws go? Will the van rust in the areas you drill? Do you need to put something around the holes to prevent rust or water coming in? Thanks for your videos by the way, I think they're great!
IIheartlovee You don't screw into the exterior skin of the van, it's only thin sheet metal. The screws go into the raised reinforcing ribs. Usually there is an inch or more clearance between the ribs and the body panels. If you use screws about 1/4 inch longer than the thickness of your new wall panels they should never pierce the outside of the van.
I think you could for sure fit two people, just depends what you want to be able to keep in the van! Im around 5'9 so I fit in the back lengthwise, just something to consider! There's always a way to make it work.
Hello, I’m using tounge n groove also, can u tell me what kind of screws u used. I purchased a box from Lowe’s based on the associates recommendation but they will not go thru the strength bars ??? Running accross the ceiling. Will not make so much as s dent. Thanks so much for your videos.
Hi! Thanks for your videos and inspiration. I am looking to transform (slowly) my Ford Transit van for full time living. I am seeking someone in NYC that can install the Maxx Air or Van Tastic fan exhaust as well as help installing solar panels on my roof. Any leads for me in my area? I am having a bit of a challenge finding leads here. Thanks!
Did you use one quarter or one eighth masonite. I have the panels cut but can't seem to get it attached to the sheet metal. I'm using 3/4 inch sheet metal screws. Help?
Hi thanks a lot ! I think masonite panel + carpet look nice but is there a reason why you didn’t put carpet directly ? Thanks a lot. I just but a transit connect because of you
idk what he used exactly...but something I used that is very similar in color and what appears to be the same texture is called "stereo carpet"...It is really cheap on Amazon and on top of that resistant to all kinds of things from oil to water, to even heat/fire.
Dont like your insulation (cotton) and all that wood just adds weight (doesn't even look good, imo), but love the grey carpet (adds a lot of class). Personally, i'd rip out the wood and cover the ceiling in grey carpet...id only put wood on the floor (well, wood colored vinyl flooring).
I think your wasting your time and money. I am a van living person, 5 years. Watched a lot of videos , if you at weight you lose gas miles.so don't go over board. Thank you kindly for videos..
I'm curious what you screwed the panels into, did you just screw directly into the metal body of the van?

Thanks for posting these videos. You are inspiring me to convert my Explorer into a stealth camper

You need a gap between your metal and the sheet of your insulation panel. This kind is for ambiant temperature not for direct contact insulation
Sweet job. The walls are choice!!!
By far the best van build tutorial guy on youtube.
He’s pretty good but he never answers questions 😑

It looks like your using reflectix for your insulation I have heard it's not good to do that. and yes how did you screw your boards in.
Muito bom assistir quem sabe trabalhar e tem ferramentas incríveis. Parabéns.

i think you've done a really nice job so far, and it looks great, i enjoy your videos
Great Info Thanks
The amount of measuring and template making you have to do when you line the walls in a van is unreal.
What kind of screws did you use to attach the Masonite to the metal?
Awesome job! Thoroughly enjoying the series!
Is that like suede? I used the 3m spray on regular black fabric and it turned out all wrinkles
It’s indoor/outdoor carpeting, I got it at Home Depot!
What carpet did you use? Was it stretchy? Thanks.

Into the metal of the van! Using self tapping screws.

So you just used reflectic insulation? How did that work out? I'm thinking of doing that as well.
Dont do it. If it touches any metal its useless. Check the manufacturer spec to fact check.
I would like to see the window recess made into storage.
Nice work fellow vanlifer ✌🏽️
Enjoying the build!! I'm looking to get this type of van in a few years for my girlfriend and I. Do you think two people can fit in it comfortably?
I think you could for sure fit two people, just depends what you want to be able to keep in the van! Im around 5'9 so I fit in the back lengthwise, just something to consider! There's always a way to make it work.
Just A Man With A Van what's the length from the back of the seats to the back doors. I'm 6'2"
Scott Beisel it's about 6' I'm 5'9" and I just fit with my bed being the height that it is. The length gets shorter the higher you are from the floor!
My bf and I have this van and we fit! He’s 6’
Hi! How did you go about screwing the masonite into the metal van wall? Did you use specific tools? Specific screws?
I just used some self tapping screws with a decent looking head on them as they are visible when looking at the walls!

SoloInARamPro I’m not Josh, but am a carpenter. Two choices: Pre-Drill Holes, or use self-drilling screws.
After a year - how has the masonite held up?
Is there second role of seat option?

Join some of the Facebook groups. Likely to find someone in your area that way.
What was the paneling you used called?
Did you use one quarter or one eighth masonite. I have the panels cut but can't seem to get it attached to the sheet metal. I'm using 3/4 inch sheet metal screws. Help?
I used 1/8” but 1/4” should still work with 3/4” screws!
Josh Oakes ok I'll give it another try
Where did you get the carpet for the panels? Do you know the name or brand? Thanks...
I got it at a Lowe’s home improvement store. Homedepot has similar stuff as well! It’s indoor outdoor carpeting.
What kind of carpet
How did you cover all the small areas that were exposed after the wall panels were installed?
A LOT of spray glue haha For the parts near any doors I would tuck one edge of the carpeting under the rubber seal then spray glue it to the body!
what kind of insulation is that.
What brand of spray glue did you use? What type of panels?
I used 3M spray glue! And I just used Masonite for the panels.
Thanks! What screws did you use to hold it up?
@@bananafreak987 i did my ford van, used self tap screws. Make sure you check different screw sizes or they go through your outside walls.

Brad nail would just loosen up over time. You could of just counter sink screws and paint them a close color to the wood first.
Ware did you buy the carpet?
idk what he used exactly...but something I used that is very similar in color and what appears to be the same texture is called "stereo carpet"...It is really cheap on Amazon and on top of that resistant to all kinds of things from oil to water, to even heat/fire.
My dad thinks we can insulate and panel his cargo van in just a few hours.
Such a shame you live so far from Georgia . Keep up the content.
This video tells us nothing. How did you drill into the body? What kind and size screws, what size drill bit? Seven minutes of nothing.
