    HOW TO GET LUCY TO PAY 5 CAPS PER MELON INSTEAD OF 3
    I actually did this a long time ago when I first started playing but totally forgot about it. This only works when you first approach Lucy and speak with her. If for any reason, you abort the conversation, the dialogue options are not repeated for some reason.
    When you first dialogue with Lucy, select these options (all up)
    - Caps?
    - Bottle cap currency?
    - Ask for more
    At this point, your character will say, "Let's make it 5 caps. Deal?" and Lucy will always agree. I just tested this with Charisma only at 1.
    THUMBS UP SO SLACK CAN SEE! :D

    Obviously, you figured this out already, but 2 things: You CAN get 5 caps for the melons if you pick the right dialogue choices from Lucy. And second, DO NOT DO THE ABERNATHY QUEST!!! If you do it, (you have to retrieve a locket for Blake), this WILL NO LONGER WORK. Lucy will stop buying melons once the quest is finished.

    Water purifiers do not work the same way.
    That's really the only argument you need for melons vs water.

    I realized I could fast travel around the farms from my farm in Sanctuary and everything would replenish during that time. I can't remember all the names, but basically, it's all the farms in the Northwest, West, and North Central map including Greygarden. With all the crops I have in Sanctuary, I basically have to make that circle once, and I'm able to replenish my adhesive to about 50. Thanks for the previous video on how to farm that, but the way, Slack!

  • @cyborgt3601
    @cyborgt3601 6 лет назад +4

    Ah, the good old days of farming crops. I came across this when looking up information on the game to start playing it again. I used to use corn for my farms just because it was the easiest for me to plant in rows and then harvest by just looking straight ahead and sprinting through the field spamming e. You can make a fortune from farming if you're willing to put forth the tedious work of both setting up the farm and regularly manually harvesting it.
    That being said, after my first playthrough I decided it wasn't even slightly worth it anymore. It's just too much time spent in the most boring version of a farming simulator ever made. By comparison, a few water purifiers can make you more caps without having to put forth any real effort on your part outside of collecting the initial parts to build them and checking the workshop inventory when you come back to town. After that, you can just use the caps you make from the water to buy shipments to replace the parts you burned on them.
    This may work for the early game when you won't even necessarily have the resources/perks to build purifiers and you need a small boost to your caps for something but it isn't really worth it beyond that in my experience.

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 Год назад

      I do the water thing. Carla gets most of my water. Needless to say, I take some to Home Plate in DC with my other trade goods but when you have thousands of pure water, carrying a couple hundred or less is a drop in the bucket. I have been known to strip down, get into Power Armor and take a bigger load or two but not all that often.

  • @Creativem1nd69

    3 caps a melon??!! 😂Ha! That ain't nothing. There's that one guy from Vault 81 that's always looking for tools. 15 caps a piece. Screwdrivers, combination wrench, ball peen hammer, wrench. Those fuckers are all over the commonwealth. 120 melons 360 caps. 120 tools x15 gets you 1800 caps I store all my shit for a while too. Started a new character haven't gotten to the vault yet and have a total of 500+ tools in a toolbox at sanctuary. I'm sure the plus about the melon farming is it's faster as you can just wait a bunch of hours. But at least with finding tools, your actually playing the game instead of doing a bunch of waiting/sleeping and shit.

    Hey Slack, long time no watch. As for the screws and such, you get that perk that gives you screws and such when you scrap weapons is pretty handy. Since you fight a crap ton of enemies, and there are usually one or more weapon benches in the enemies' buildings, you can just scrap and go basically. Scrapping their own weapons for screws and such.

      When I activate a new workshop, a water pump is nearby as it is my first build along with a bed in my new settlement. Once I have that I don't really need settlers. I'm a carnivore anyway, not a vegan. Anything I've cooked up over and above what I carry with me goes into the next Workshop I visit. All my "settlements" store cooked food, crop type foods I have acquired, and junk for me. Junk tends to migrate toward "settlements" with workstations where it is scrapped. If I'm carrying junk and come across a workstation outside my "settlements", I might try to craft an upgrade. Works for me.

Even when I start a new game I go straight to the water, the time it takes to gather the components and perks for the bigger purifiers are worth it.

      Once you give the locket back they become one of your farms and Lucy won't buy from you anymore. Once you do this change your farm to tatos, corn etc. to make adhesives and such and drug up when you sell these to merchants. In reality melon farming should be over by 28 hours in the game if you already have the locket as you should have enough caps to grab the few early items you may want such as the Overseer's Guardian.

    • @edmartin875
      @edmartin875 Год назад

      The 5 caps per melon market has flown the coop. Mom Abernathy is a minor trader. She will buy melons for 2-3 caps each depending on your Charisma. She does not have a lot of money and it takes about 3 gamedays for her to get a new bankroll. You sell some to Carla and then you could load up on melons and head south. Trudy at the Diner is the next trader. After that small traders are around with their small bankrolls but sometimes hard to find. You could sell/trade at Bunker hill and Diamond City. But all that is a lot of work for 2-3 caps per melon.
      You could convert to the water selling racket. Sell price for pure water is in the range of 8-10 caps per water and you can carry twice as many water as melons on each trip. Water weighs 0.5, melons weigh 1.0, so 1 pound of melons will bring 2-3 caps, while 1 pound of water will bring you 16-20 caps.

      Most people like putting points into killing skills and their mats to make weapons//armor early game. If you like playing survival with a huge handicap early though then your method sounds fine, otherwise it's a later game money maker but by that time caps are more or less pointless and the mats themselves are what's important. So you end up just selling water for more mats//drugs not caps.

      There is always the water racket. Build at least two industrial water purifiers and enough power generators. Two Purifiers gets between 75-100 water per day, depending on number of settlers and time of gameday. Problem there is Carla gets a lot, but not all of your water meaning most stuff and some water that you need to sell has to move south. If you have a lot to take south, I advise you to strip down and use power armor to do the hauling. Power Armor has carry weight of 310 unless you upgrade the leg armor for carry capacity, then it gets an extra 50 per leg. That's with armor workstation perk level 2 and science perk level 2.

    Hey Slack, the reason all those tato plants don't respawn is because they're "withered" or whatever. If a plant is left unworked by a settler for a certain amount of in-game time, it withers and no longer produces food. Not only that, but the plant isn't even targetable in workshop mode, meaning you can't get rid of this stupid dead plant... I can only assume that part is a bug.
    I don't think this mechanic is explained in the game at all, and it's pretty frustrating. Those particular plants at Abernathy Farm will always become withered because the NPCs don't work them during the time before you unlock the workshop there.
    As far as I know, there are two ways to potentially fix withered plants. One, assign a settler to a nearby plant, and he or she may possibly choose to farm one of the withered plants as well. After one growth cycle, the plant should bear fruit and will be interactable again. Should. Two, you can destroy some plants by shooting/exploding them. Repairing them in build mode will leave you with a functional plant again. The reason I say "some plants" is because I haven't gotten this to work on a consistent basis. Sometimes I've just been left with an uninteractable, broken plant.
    For the PC players, the best solution may be to disable or markfordelete the plants in the command line interface. If you take this route, be extremely careful and save before you do anything, as it's very possible to disable the wrong object. It's silly that you have to go to these lengths to get rid of a dumb, dead plant, but there you have it.

      Thanks for pointing this out. I just experienced this 'wither' phenomenon on a big farm I built for another project I'm working on. I noticed that when you overplant, that is, plant way more than your settlers can handle, if all your other resources are in excess as well, e.g., water, beds, defense, etc, when you set up a recruitment beacon, settlers will arrive and automatically assign themselves to crops that aren't assigned.
      Originally I thought this was great and a cool way to auto-assign settlers as soon as they arrived.
      But now I realized if the settlers don't come in fast enough, some of the plants that were 'overplanted' wither. Just like you said, inaccessible in workshop mode and never bear fruit.

      I just found a ridiculously simple solution to the withered plant problem.
      1. Stand directly over the plants/crops that are withered or 'broken' (inaccessible via workshop).
      2. Look down at the crops.
      3. Do a quick save.
      4. Do a quick load.
      The crops should now be accessible via workshop. I just fixed a huge patch of 35 melons that was hopelessly broken for many game hours and throughout many fast traveling away and back, shooting the crops (which I don't recommend by the way, it just screwed things up even more). I took the idea from this Steam thread.
