They attempted similar actions in Hong Kong during 2019-2020, as well as during events like the Orange Revolution, the Arab Spring, and in other regions like Vietnam, using tactics such as student uprisings to create unrest and push for control. In 1989, they tried to incite similar events in Beijing, but the reports in Western media were heavily distorted, with claims that no such incidents occurred as described. Historically, those responsible for colonization, exploitation, and harm to nations worldwide have perpetuated such actions. Let’s focus on facts and avoid spreading misinformation or creating divisive narratives.

Thanks for your candid sharing and yes, as a middle-aged ethnic Chinese (extremely bilingual in English, Mandarin and some Chinese dialects) born and still living in South East Asia, I have been watching several of your China travel videos.
On the various points that you mentioned - I wish to add more materials for further reflection and thoughts:
For heaven's sake, there have been some retired foreign diplomats (they were eyewitnesses) who have come out to defend China and clarify that yes, there was a 'massacre' in Tiananmen in 1989 but most of the victims were actually the police or soldiers who were trying to show restraint to the violent protestors who were part of the 'colour revolution' started by the west.
Clue: study the TIMING of this incident and compare it to the rapid and intense rise of a spate of similar, anti-Communism protests across Eastern Europe in the exact same time frame.
Beijing in 1989 was not isolated like North Korea, you know, and there was a whole set of Western diplomats roaming freely then. So, why do we see so few relevant pictures of the 'massacre' today?
Oh, that famous video of the 'man standing in front of a moving tank' which is a constant favourite reference material? There is a longer and full version of him being pulled aside by his friend and the tank did pause just prior - so, nope, he was not crushed to death.
If the Chinese law enforcers and soldiers were as trigger-happy as their American counterparts, you will not still see a core group of those 1989 student protest leaders (just a few years older than I) still living happily in the US.

We've been to Shanghai, China last December, and to Beijing a few years ago. Yeah... China is so advanced, the future. China is safe with or without cameras. The culture in China and other East Asian territories which practices Confucianism and Daoism place the community good above self. Cameras are required for high tech and surveillance is part of that, and why not? Technology requires cameras for driverless cars, traffic control, etc. apart from the surveillance necessary for law and order. Cameras are essential for observation, not just for the individual safety from such thing as theft, violence, accidents, etc. but also for the community, for example, to prevent such things as an unforeseen accident, such as a stampede considering that the number of people in any one spot could just surge and create a stampede or something. Yeah... if somebody were to lose something by accident or whatever they can track it and retrieve it. So many uses... Of course, with cameras, you can be assured that you are like 100% safe that even an occasional drunkard can't get away with any crimes, petty or otherwise. And, indeed, it is critical and essential. All the negative and false narratives in regard to cameras, etc., for example, are due to hypocrisy, jealousy, etc., and well, just blatant racism (but for racism, at least, the racists should not be inferior). London, Britain has the highest number of CCTVs per capita, and yet the darn place is rife with crimes, the homeless, etc. And, OMG, the Brits, and the Nazis, the pariah politicians, journalists, etc. want to lecture other people on freedom, safety, ethics, human rights, blah blah blah... they should take care of themselves first. Welcome to the future that is China! This is true and real freedom. OMG! Yes, it would take at least 30 to 50 years to catch up with China, and for any Western city to develop to what Shanghai or Beijing is today and by which time, Shanghai or Beijing would have developed even further but the Western politicians and their pariah media keep peddling fake news and disinformation, misinformation and false narratives of China. Well, the US spend billions of dollars on the disinformation of China, and that is official. The US just passed a disinformation law, spending $1.9 billion. $90 billion spent on disinformation about China, what did the US people get? Search this. What did you get?

My city (Lisbon) is nowhere near as big as Beijing. Yet all national buildings are "heavily guarded". So are national builds in Washington DC, London, Berlin and Paris. And I'm quite sure the same happens in Canberra as well. So.... Why the hell wouldn't China guard their national treasure for potential terrorist attacks?!
Btw, don't guys think it is odd that the media only shows us the same footage to claim the "Tiananmen Massacre"? I mean a "massacre" should imply thousands and thousands of deaths like the ones we witness everyday happenings in conflict zones. How come the same media that claims to have been there on the ground in 1989, can't provide us with more evidence than just plain words??

Beijing is the political center, so security checks and monitoring are relatively strict, so be mentally prepared.By the same token, if you go to Washington, there will be many streets with strict restrictions. Most of the surveillance cameras on the streets are for monitoring traffic violations. These cameras are used to capture instances of speeding, illegal lane changes, honking, etc. In the end, I can only say that we are all ordinary people; no one is really paying attention to what we are doing.surveillance in London exceeds that in BEIJING, but the security in London is very bad.Surveillance is to protect law-abiding citizens, only thieves are afraid of surveillance.Since Western media has been reporting negatively on China all year round, dark filters have also been added to the video. Therefore, it is really strange that foreigners who first come to China are particularly afraid of Chinese surveillance, but are not afraid of thieves in London. This is a kind of prejudice.

159 people were killed and 196 others were injured during a stampede on 29 October 2022 in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea when they were "celebrating" the Halloween festival. On July 2, 2024, a stampede at a religious gathering in Hathras, India killed at least 121 people, mostly women. In India, stampedes are frequently occurring events every month and every year. In the US, people get killed because of gun violence and ter.rori$m. So those cameras are there for your own safety, Moreover, technology needs a lot of cameras.

You know how people become Emperors of China in modern days? First you get an engineering degree, then you start low in the government doing shitty administrative jobs, work your way up from townships to counties, where you get judged and scrutinized by any joe blow citizen and fellow workers, garner enough merits without mishap nor scandalous blowout and what do you know, you get promoted to provincial level rubbing shoulders with the big boys. If you're still really good at your job now while holding some serious power and manage to stay void of corruption or disloyalty to the politico party, you get observed and probed up the ass for a few years, and voila congratulations you're now the successor to the throne.
So, it's much easier in the west. Democracy is really cool because you always get to choose between two popstar baby kissers with the deepest campaign fund pockets.
