Difference between the two cities: Shanghai is proud of its colonial time, while Beijing is proud of its imperial time. Common: Both are built on the boring flat topography.
Shanghai has been a sophisticated urban area since ancient times and is close to Nanjing, which had been the capital of China for hundreds of years before the Qing Dynasty. Beijing has been the capital of China since the Qing Dynasty, even though it was already an important city for hundreds of years before that.
@@tkcha888 Thanks for the friendly correction. Before that, it was the capital of the Jin Dynasty. Mongols defeat Jin Dynasty, set up Yuan Dynasty, and make Beijing their capital. Then Ming Dynasty defeats Yuan Dynasty and makes Beijing their capital.
I’ve never been to Shanghai, but I’ve heard good things. I’ve been to Beijing a few times, and it’s definitely more historical (in terms of the architecture), while I imagine Shanghai to be more modern/ international.
An Indian thought Shanghai is way too international for him. LOL. He is an Indian in China. Isn't that funny? He is studying international relationship. LOL.
It’s probably because he went to China to enjoy and experience Chinese culture for the few years he wants to study there, which he’ll get more in Beijing. To be honest I get what he means, as a tourist or someone who’s studying there/wants to enjoy Chinese culture, Beijing is better. But if you want to live in China as a foreigner and you want something that’s resembles your home country a bit more, you might be more comfortable in Shanghai

Having traveled to five continents and most large cities in the world, I can responsibly say that Chongqing is the most impressive city in China. In fact, Chongqing is the world's only mega city that is not built on a flat topography. The city's landscape, verticality, two large rivers widening among the mountains, the urban vibes, and the blend of old and new, tradition and modernity, and the past and future are unparalleled by any other city in the world.
Simply put, cities built on the flat topography can be replicated, to a large extent (think about the replicates of Paris, Rome in China). These include Shanghai, Beijing, Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, and etc. But, mountainous cities like Chongqing are not replicable. This is why foreigners are now flocking to Chongqing after China has opened its door in the west.
They’re debating the difference between two cities, why are you so opposed to critical thinking? They’re not being rude, just observant. It helps for people wanting to visit

Shanghai proud of it's colonial times? what fucccck? do you know what you're talking about?
You don't speak for the Chinese in Shanghai. Who else in their right mind would be proud of being oppressed under colonial rule.
Please put subtitles through RUclips too. Because that way I can translate it into my language. I'm from Brazil and I'm not fluent in English.

Shanghai only has the western appeal. Thats all about it. It gets beaten by Chinese Ancient Cities like suzhou and Hangzhou.
As a Chinese Shanghai is definitely a more desired city due to modern infrastructure, food, and nightlife.
Great video, if we want to walk a lot but see more authentic neighbourhoods where should we stay iyo
I would aay SanliTun, and hutongs are nice

You should ask the foreigners not the locals because the locals would say Chongqing is better

Way too international ? What's wrong with that? Funny coming from an Indian person 😅😅
why care about the different ? TRY TO DIVIDE PEOPLE ?
typically ccp mentality. cant chinese people even have an opinion of their own city?
Contrast is not dividing people. It's giving people an idea of what to expect.
