    Difference between the two cities: Shanghai is proud of its colonial time, while Beijing is proud of its imperial time. Common: Both are built on the boring flat topography.

      Shanghai has been a sophisticated urban area since ancient times and is close to Nanjing, which had been the capital of China for hundreds of years before the Qing Dynasty. Beijing has been the capital of China since the Qing Dynasty, even though it was already an important city for hundreds of years before that.

      @@hananokuni2580wrong, bejing is the capital since yuan, then ming dynasty. For more than 6 hundreds years.

      @@tkcha888 Thanks for the friendly correction. Before that, it was the capital of the Jin Dynasty. Mongols defeat Jin Dynasty, set up Yuan Dynasty, and make Beijing their capital. Then Ming Dynasty defeats Yuan Dynasty and makes Beijing their capital.

      It’s probably because he went to China to enjoy and experience Chinese culture for the few years he wants to study there, which he’ll get more in Beijing. To be honest I get what he means, as a tourist or someone who’s studying there/wants to enjoy Chinese culture, Beijing is better. But if you want to live in China as a foreigner and you want something that’s resembles your home country a bit more, you might be more comfortable in Shanghai

    been to shg but live in Bj. I'd like to experience living in shg to see the difference but as for tourism no contest Bj better for the many things to see parks hutong canals sanlitun CBD besides the famous monuments gugong great wall etc
    shg homes don't have heaters so winters are tougher than bj 😅
    if you hail a taxi in shg drivers will ask your destination and may refuse. in bj never, you can do a 1km ride. bj nightlife and clubs not as good as it could be. i hear shg is more fun if you hv the money and ppl are more materialistic there, myb just stereotype..

    You should ask the foreigners not the locals because the locals would say Chongqing is better

    • @max_dsouth9
      @max_dsouth9 4 дня назад

      Having traveled to five continents and most large cities in the world, I can responsibly say that Chongqing is the most impressive city in China. In fact, Chongqing is the world's only mega city that is not built on a flat topography. The city's landscape, verticality, two large rivers widening among the mountains, the urban vibes, and the blend of old and new, tradition and modernity, and the past and future are unparalleled by any other city in the world.

    • @max_dsouth9
      @max_dsouth9 4 дня назад

      Simply put, cities built on the flat topography can be replicated, to a large extent (think about the replicates of Paris, Rome in China). These include Shanghai, Beijing, Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, and etc. But, mountainous cities like Chongqing are not replicable. This is why foreigners are now flocking to Chongqing after China has opened its door in the west.
