The technical term is "reeding". Early US coins were made with a key feature: the denomination matches the metal melt value. That is, a $10 gold coin has $10 of gold, a $1 silver coin has $1 of silver, etc. A criminal may shave off a tiny bit of the precious metal from the edges of many coins, and sell the shavings for its metal value. The presence of the reeding shows that a coin hasn't been shaved down and hasn't lost some of its metal value. Many US coin denominations are no longer minted, and all have changed its metal alloy mixture. When the silver in the half-dime was eliminated, and it was made largely of nickel instead, people started calling the new 5¢ coins "nickel"; the new coin design lost its reeding, and it was left with a smooth edge. The 10¢, 25¢, and 50¢ coins for circulation no longer are minted with silver, but they still have reeding.
Two things: 1. The escalator brushes have always ENCOURAGED me to smash my foot and leg into them harder 🤣 But now that I know I could get caught in the sides, I'll knock it off. 2. Literally never even noticed that the buttons on a dress shirt collar were oriented differently than those along the length of the shirt. I always thought it was just tough to button because my neck was in the way!
The ice cream cone was invented out of necessity. During the World's Fair a long time ago there was a guy selling ice cream in bowls and next door a man was selling waffles no one wanted to eat because it was summer time. The ice cream guy couldn't keep up with washing the bowls fast enough because of consumer demand for the frozen treat. He noticed the guy's waffles weren't selling and the idea of wrapping the waffle into a cone popped into his head. The rest is history.

We Indians use coconut oil for door hinges and zippers from past decades. We even use wax of candle for these purposes sometimes. We use to call it a JUGAAD. We have a solution for every problem in each Indian house.
While the ridge thing is partially correct, the actual intent is so that blind people can feel which coin they have in their hand. Since the dimes and pennies are similar in size it is easier to tell which is which due to the ridges.

1:55-2:00 do you mean increase the resistance? There's no way a hole allowing the liquid to only pass upward against gravity (due to centrifugal force while stirring, as opposesd to a solid closed end) will reduce the resistance, but increased resistance will stir everything more efficiently. A smooth end would more easily pass through the liquid but the hole acts as a kind of scoop, causing liquid to slosh in and out and applying force with the internal surface area as well as the external.
