Hey guys, today I did a solo clamming trip in the Barnegat Bay on Island Beach State Park. I was in the water early by 515am to beat the crowds and it paid off. I ended up with three dozen clams and we had a delicious dinner of roasted clams basted in garlic butter on the grill. I hope you enjoy the video and as always, please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!
My dad used to bring me clamming in that same exact spot. Lol parking lot still looks exactly the same. That was 30 years ago. Who buddy time passes by fast. Miss dad. Thank you for posting.
Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it. We were just there the other day and have another video coming out. So glad it brought back good memories for you!!
Thanks so much Boxie, my gopro wasnt working right in the beginning, i gave you a shout out that we are gonna clam together someday, but when we go, you gotta shuck and eat one raw, lol. Have a great weekend my friend
You are pretty good at that. I always thought you had to dig then out of sandbars when the tide is out. Cool horseshoe crab. You got me wanting seafood! Take care.
Nice!!!! Brother!!!! Got a lot of them!!! Im be putting clams on the hook tonight for bait!!!!! Among other things but... Nice bro i like the intro music too
@@MKOutdoors thanks for getting back to me. Enjoy your videos. Would like to ask u more questions at some point about claiming and getting there by boat or waverunner. Thanks again
Thanks brother. And the clam rakes you can buy. This one is my Dads, this rake is probably 25 years old. Still sturdy as ever, dont make them like that anymore
I haven't been back there in . . . like forever. Gotta give this a try! Thanks for sharing M! (Get used to daughters going out with friends. My oldest is almost 18 and I miss those days when we were connected at the hips!) BTW, regarding swimmers encroaching where you are fishing, the warning I give is "I would hate to see anyone get hurt by getting a fish hook stuck in them." Not trying to be mean, just real. They usually move.
Hey buddy, thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. And thats good man, im gonna use that next time. That day we went fishing was ridiculous. Ive never seen IBSP this crowded, literally every day. The clamming is really good still, if you ever go, let me know, ill tell you where we went
Thanks AJ, and no, any time of day works. The last time Kaylee and i went it was mid-day. I went early to be the crowds that have been showing up in this area. Its crazy lately.
Great video, I subscribed. I've fished Barnegat Bay in Lavallete but never clammed. I would love to try it out. Is there a particular season to do clamming--I see you went in July, but am wondering if you can get some in the winter. Don't really know anything about clamming. Thanks!
Hey Andrew!, first, thank for the kind words and Subscribing!!! We really appreciate it. And clamming is all year round, no closed season. You do need a shellfish license which is only $10, and there is no clamming on Sundays. We definitely plan on going in the winter when the fishing dies down to give us something to do. Gonna throw some waders and cold weather gear and head out. You should definitely give it a try, you'll be hooked, its a lot of fun
@@MKOutdoors Thanks very much, I'm going to try it out! Last question for you, how far out do you usually have to go (waist deep or just close to shore?) And would you recommend just trying different spots or is there a way to know what spot is good? Thanks again, looking forward to more videos.
Its best to go at low tide and we always did better in about knee/waist deep water. If you are on Instagram or Facebook, give us a follow and DM me and ill tell you where to go man.
Mike that was such a great haul!! Love that Kaylee was able to hang her with her friends and that you were planning date night with your wife👍👍👍Jon had a question....do sharks come into the bay?
I love your videos and watched them many times. I want to go there for clamming, but don’t know the exactly place you were in this video. Can I have the address or directions? Thanks
Pretty much the whole bayside is good. Go online and download the clamming map, itll give you all the legal spots to go. Good luck out there and thanks for watching!
Awesome man. Clamming in NJ is open all year, we're gonna do a video in December, cold weather clamming. Nothing like freah clams. And thanks for stopping in the live stream!
That looks like a relaxing time. It's awesome that your daughter actually wants to di that with you. Its good for her too, to hang out friends. Are clams simular to muscles? I've had muscles before. Just curious if they were about the same.
A little similar to mussels. I like clams better tho, to me they are sweeter than mussels. I roasted these clams on the grill and basted them in garlic butter, delicious. Thank you for watching!!

Its a lot of fun John. Its a year round season for them, so if you ever make it out this way, you'll come with us
Good thing you got there early for the Holliday weekend! IBSP is gorgeous when no one there, but a nightmare when it’s busy!
It was crazy when i was leaving. Traffic backed up until the route 37 bridge

You looked like you had a great day! Those Horshoe crabs are annoying, I used to step on them and stingrays when I used to clam commercially 🤦♂️
It was a great morning man. Whole place to myself, and the horseshoe crabs are all over the place there

That would be great man!! Thank you!
I plan on giving clamming a go this 2021 summer. Can you go anywhere at IBSP? Thanks

@@MKOutdoors Forgot to ask where can I get clamming rakes reasonably priced. Some are pretty expensive on-line. Thanks for your help.
@@petefoti1041 Gabriel Tackle in Brick or Grumpys Tackle in Seaside Park usually always have them. The Hook House on Route 37 in Toms River too

Are the licenses available for purchase at the park?
No, not at the park. You can buy them online on the NJ fish and wildlife website and print it out
@@MKOutdoors Thanks....I wonder why clamming is forbidden on Sundays. It doesn't have anything to do with any Blue Laws does it? LOL :-)
No clue, such a stupid rule.
Do you know about where to get some oysters
Nice vid bro. Talk about quiet time to yourself.
Thanks man, was the perfect morning
I wanted to eat vongole pasta😆
Haha, we love that
I want fried quahog clams
Now
Yes Indeed Raymond!!
Aren't you supposed to keep clams in water for a day or two so the sand and other things clean out?
Anything I've seen online and from a friend who is a chef says 30 minutes in cold clean water is good. Thanks for watching!
@@MKOutdoors thanks
@@beebob1279 No problem man! 👍
Do you need a permit to clam or crab at Barnegat Bay on Island Beach State Park?
You need a shellfish license which is $10. Allowed 150 clams per day and no clamming on Sundays. You can get your license online, but i got mine at my local Walmart
And only the license for clamming. You dont need a license to crab
4 people, 1 shellfish license for 150 clams, is okay to do it?
Everyone clamming needs a license
