funny easy to find them when i lived on long island sound, but now i live in ri and only have found them 2x. the blue crabbing is great every year so it makes up for it. btw blue crabs can only be harvested by ri residences. probably the reason its good every year.
My house is on the western side of Barrington and on the water . My son and I catch tons every time we go out to our backyard . It’s the same type of beach as in this video . What parts of Rhode island have you tried ?
Nice video, here in South Australia we have what we call cockles, they look a lot like the clams and the same size restrictions are the same as yours, how ever we catch ours only in one location called goolwa beach, we are allowed 300 per person per day, they tell me they are great eating, I myself use them for bait, because they make some of the best bait for most of our table fish. Totally loved your video bro.
Unless you break the shell, there is no sand inside the shell. If you have a clam with sand inside it, it is dead. This is a common misconception. When you soak non broken clams I. Salt water, any dirt you see in the water is from outside of the shell.
In Connecticut certain areas are year-round. Beach areas are November to May 1st depends on town...you have to get a permit/license to do it. Just go to the town hall and apply. They switch areas that they close for a time so always update your maps.
John Skinner just told me this guy owes him $20. They had a bet 5 years ago on who could pick up the fattest chick in Napier Tandy’s in Smithtown. John won by a landslide and Mr. Clam Picker never paid up.
@@billlegakis9155 ; HOW DARE YOU ???!!!??? How dare you denigrate the memory of John Skinner? Do you realize the self sacrifice that beautiful, humble, generous man has shown over the years. Are you aware that he donated many hours of his time volunteering at the local east end community theater when it was ravaged by a fire? Or how about the countless hours spent at the local home for single teenage mothers? Maybe you didn’t know about the time spent marching for the civil rights movement in the Deep South during the turbulent ‘60s. John Skinner has lived a thousand lives and you only want to mock him and the times he’s shown a little tenderness and compassion to the less fortunate females among us. You sir, should be ashamed of yourself.
Who taught you how to scratch rake? You use the teeth to skim and feel the clam then you use the corner of the rake to dig that clam. You're bull raking with a scratch rake digging away wasting time and energy.

I dug clams one summer during college…digging soft shell in the Portland, Maine. Hard, hot, buggy job!
Can you let me know where you got that rake? I can't seem to find it and looks like a good one
Where’s the link for the tool
I used to clam dig for a living with tongs on the Great South Bay in New York
A little tip for you clam is that did your own. Put clams in a bucket with fresh salt water and let them piss out the sand at least a few hours.

At least in NJ.
On Long Island Non-Commercial Shellfish harvesters are permitted a combined limit of 100 per day (about 1/2 a 5 gal bucket)
Awesome content! Thank you.

Thought the only months were May June July August, any month without an "R" in it?
It's all specific to your area. Check state or town websites before heading out.

Why americans are so obsessed with safety?
Just show us how to dig clams, not to call your grandmother in case of emergency😂

Instead of complaining how bad the OP is doing, why not
make your own video showing how to do it better?
