Let's go, and the Yellow Vest is back. Fantastic. I'll have a bit more to comment this time.
27:32 I, as a foreigner, feel Georges Danton is truly an underrated figure in the States. I do not know how he's depicted in France, or Europe, but when I first learned about him ages ago, it was truly a cruel fate what Robespierre commanded be done to him. I know later at least a dreadnought does get his name, but otherwise I'm not aware of other ways his memory continues in France.
35:40 To be fair, at least exactly as it says on the tin; it is "Oversimplified", but that is why we chill here; to get the context we missed. Keep well.

Ahhh the Yellow Jacket, french elegance at its best!
In the public eye, Danton is seen as the victim of the infamous Robespierre, who was his friend and ally, and who betrayed him. For historians, it's more complex: there's a debate between those who believe that he was indeed betrayed and those who believe that he was a man of integrity, an idealist and a fervent democrat. Others paint a more mixed picture, with corruption and no scruples about betraying his own interests.
On the second point, you're absolutely right: Oversimplified does exactly what it promises to do. And it's fantastic material to be able to exchange on and nuance, because even if I sometimes play to disagree with them what they do remains great and very valuable.
      Thank you!

This was certainly a nice little lunchtime break, thank you. I really enjoyed this and your perspective as a French man really added alot. Im reminded again of my high school history teacher telling us that the Queen was a victim of a whisper campaign and he had much sympathy for her. I did notice how fear can lead to many, many bad things. Looking forward to more oversimplified, i also love the variety of content on here, please keep up the good work, you do it right!

Thank you!!!!! Of course I'll continue with new eras and even more Oversimplified! I, too, have empathy for Marie-Antoinette, who was the victim of an unfair and indignant smear campaign right up to the end.

I do remember that King Louis XV was attacked by a knife, that is the only major assassination attempt I know of. It really rattled the King and contributed to what I see as a mental decline.

    • @mrmadness2699

      Do you mean Louis XVI?

    • @ToonStory-fh4gn
      @ToonStory-fh4gn  8 месяцев назад +4

Yes it was number XV, he was saved by his thick layer of clothing. The guy who tried to kill him was named Damiens, and underwent a horrible torture before being put to death. I think Louis XV had a tendency towards depression, and this attack must have had a major impact on his mental health.

normally quite interested in history i never bothered too much with the (first) french revolution. It can just be summed up too easily with "A bloody mess that only ended when the next absolute ruler took over". And in the end, after the Napoleon extension, it changed very little. Not even geographically, because all of Napoleons gains for France were gone again.
So learning about it is a lot of very complicated back and forth for a event that changed the world very little.
As for the new ideas, it came a bit late for them to be actually new.

It was at least an earthquake for France, with the end of a thousand-year-old monarchy and the long road to a democratic republic...

I have heard that Blue, White and Red tricolor of the French flag comes from the City of Paris (who's color's are Red and Blue, also used as a cockade of the Paris National Guard) and the Bourbon Monarchy whom color in White.

    • @ToonStory-fh4gn

Absolutely, it symbolizes the indefectible union between the nation and the monarchy. After the fall of the king, white remained as a symbol of the nation: the union of the nation and its people.

French Dude... I'm starting to have a problem with you. I created this identity to watch fun reactions to silly stuff or to my favourite movies and tv shows. This was my brain spa. You popped up in my feed with Blackadder and now I'm watching stuff about history and even thinking. Need I mention how much damage your channel deals to my ability to resist spending time on RUclips? You're catnip for procrastination.
Sorry about the rant. It's maybe not the best way to tell you I like your reaction videos. It's not your fault I love history. It's your "fault" that you're offering an engaging, thoughtful perspective.
