Thermostat housing... I told the dealer over and over I smelled coolant and they couldn't find it. Warranty ends and suddenly it's the thermostat housing which just happens to cost $1800 to fix. And is the most common fault on VW's. The dealer basically lied to me repeatedly. And this is why this is my first and last VW I will ever buy.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I suggest finding another dealer, their cars are still really good! You can also call corporate to try to get reimbursed.
Dude - if you have longer videos - please make them. These are super enjoyable. More in-depth, more step by step. More everything. Ride in, ride home, everything bro.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the love. I plan on doing more videos at work when I can. I’m waiting for my 90 days at my new job before I try it also I’m just getting familiar with the processes at stuff with Porsche. I’ll put out what I can. As far as riding in to work and riding home that might have to wait a bit. The Grom isn’t my commuter anymore since I have to take the highway into work now.
@@firstlast--- I doubt they would bring it down because a lot of tech’s complained of the original labor time given for the campaign it went from 105 to 150 TU.
Better safe than sorry. Yeah, I was one of them. They missed a labour op for their own workshop manual stated procedure. Did you guy get back paid as well?
@@unclepeanut15 It is extremely dumb no matter what manufacturer you work for to talk about how you shortcut jobs under warranty. All it takes is one person to say something to get someone's attention. I can't stand when people do that do you really have to be that guy
It sure is! I live in Canada and the City Golf was sold here new. But we did see a 2015 or 2016 TDI Passat come from Mexico, that was pretty cool to see. It didn’t have any of the emissions controls that our cars had.
We only got the GTI and R here for mk8 so I can’t speak to the other sub models. I don’t think there’s anything to avoid with the 7.5 though. All three engine options are great and I’m not aware of any major issues with that chassis. The best advice I can give you is buy the cleanest best maintained one you can find. If you buy a 1.4 be aware of timing belt service due date. It may help in a negotiation.
There are a lot of specialty tools that the manufacturers requires the dealer to have but all the general tools we use are purchased by the techs. It’s not hard for a tech to accumulate several thousands of dollars worth of tools in their career. I’m on the lower end still and I’ve easily spent $6,000+ in tools.
In Canada we have to go through a three year apprenticeship program and pass a final exam to get our 310s license. That license allows you to work in the trade anywhere you want. The brands have their own training programs to ensure their technicians are fully versed in the brand. VW training unfortunately doesn’t carry over to Porsche.
@@jeremyblatz Yeah that alone makes me never want to switch brands. On top of relearning the brand and all the little nuances all the common problems how the manufacturer puts things together. No thanks lol
It’s a pretty common issue on the first year 1.5 in both the Taos and the Jetta. There was a problem with the head gaskets causing a coolant leak on the firewall side of the block. Some of them even had a mount contacting the head preventing it from clamping down properly. I did about 15 or so during my time at VW.

I love doing those pods recalls, pays like 2.5 hours and I can do it in an hour with the seat in the car.
Yeah, they weren’t too bad! I hadn’t tried doing it in the car before though.
Great idea say it louder so vw can bring the labor time down

Is that a MK4.5 City Golf in the background at 2:48?? How often do you see foreign market models come through?

@@jeremyblatz thanks dude
@cheesuskrust7021 you’re welcome. Happy car shopping!
I'd get the best equipped manual 7.5 you can find with the 1.4 turbo petrol. Very reliable with normal maintenance
Definitely a great option!

Always the thermostat housing
It started in 1993 i believe on golf mk3 and the havent foxed that problem yet
Thats how you know the maker os crappy
We’re only seeing thermostat housings on the 2 litre engines in the Tiguan currently…
How long were you with VW? And do your certifications/rank carry over to Porsche?
I was with VW a total of about 5 years. Unfortunately none of my training carried over so I’m starting from square one.
@@jeremyblatz crazy i had a friend who went to Porsche his ase transferred wit him since it’s standard across the board

It’s a lot of work to make the switch. I’ll probably stay with Porsche for the rest of my career, one switch is plenty lol
A 2022 Taos needing a head gasket? SMH

@@jeremyblatzwhat about the 2023 model 🥶
I think they sorted it out for 24. I’m pretty sure I’ve done a few 2023’s though.
VW not reliable anymore
More vids !
I’ll probably do mostly shorts for now, there’s a lot to learn with Porsche so that’s going to take most of my mental bandwidth.
I see you accepted a position at Porsche
Still working on VWs then 😂😂😂
I filmed this a while ago but didn’t get around to editing and posting it. My first day at Porsche is Monday.
That joke totally went over my head at first lol. They do share some parts but they’re quite different.
