    It’s honestly mind boggling why Worlds of Fun can’t get a new coaster. Such an underrated park. Honestly with how much land they have that should be a huge selling point for Cedar Fair. They need some new attention drawn to it

    the selling point for WoF is the haunted attractions. I know previous years we topped Knotts scary farm in how good our mazes, zones, and actors are. If you want to see this park shoulder to shoulder packed, come to haunt.

    There is a lot of space - but there are also caves under and around that area (subtropolis businesses), so they can't have too many more big attractions because it could cause the caves to collapse.

    The worst thing is learning about old rides that you never got to ride. Like the Schussboomer, the Orient Express, the Sceamroller/Extremeroller, the Zambezi Zinger, the Thunderhawk. If you wanna learn more search up “worlds of fun gone but not forgotten” it’s the first one. It has a list of all ride that they had and got rid of.

    • @disoriented1
      @disoriented1 5 лет назад

      you must be a fellow Kansas Citian! ..my first job was at WOF in the early 80s. 16 years old, and when you're off the clock, the park was yours! Schussboomer..in Scandanavia..no deaths?..amazing! The Orient Express was huge when I worked there in '80 to '83..the Screamroller..then EXtremeroller. in Americana...The Zambezi Zinger. in Africa...(they shipped it off to somewhere..it's still awesome there now)..

  • @RollyCoaster
    @RollyCoaster 7 лет назад +23

    Taylor, thought I too would love to see a new coaster here, I don't think it would happen, at least nothing major. They, along with Michigan's Adventure, are the only Cedar Fair parks to get less that 1 million visitors annually. That's not a lot! Valleyfair gets way more visitors than them. They already have the big coasters to attract the GP and a solid enough collection with Prowler, Patriot, and Mamba to the point where Cedar Fair just wouldn't need to add any more large coaster additions here.

    • @coasterchaos1866
      @coasterchaos1866 7 лет назад +5

      Rolly Coaster WOF gets about 1.2 Million. Up until this year I believe WOF had higher attendance than VF too.

    • @RollyCoaster
      @RollyCoaster 7 лет назад

      CoasterChaos Wikipedia needs to update their data, it seems. Either way, they still don't get that many visitors and a new coaster wouldn't attract that many people.

    • @coasterchaos1866
      @coasterchaos1866 7 лет назад +1

      Rolly Coaster I wouldn't use Wikipedia as a reliable source. They get most of their attendance during Haunt. I know they break 1 million around right before Haunt.

    • @GodandPolitics
      @GodandPolitics 7 лет назад

      It's definitely 1.2 mil+. Valleyfair gets less than that.

    • @coasterchaos1866
      @coasterchaos1866 7 лет назад +3

      Rolly Coaster I know also that the 2009 season brought record attendance that year Prowler was built. Prowler was a big deal as it won the golden ticket award beating out other rides such as Diamondback and Manta. Therefore it has been proven that adding a coaster here does raise the attendance.

    This is my home park and unfortunately they almost never run 2 cars on any of the rides. And I agree they don’t utilize the space well enough. They haven’t added much since I’ve been going there which has been since about 2010

  • @graysongilbert8126
    @graysongilbert8126 4 года назад +2

    A REALLY important aspect that got left out is that the park was inspired by "Around the World in 80 Days", so each section of the park is themed after a part of the world. For example, Mamba, Prowler, and Fury of the Nile are in "Africa," Patriot is in "Americana", and Spinning Dragons, Panda Express, and the fake Koi pond you saw are in "The Orient." It adds a lot of fun when you're walking around the park.

    I think the reason you didn't think Timber Wolf wasn't too bad was because it's been almost completely retracked by GCI in many sections, and for 2018, GCI will be adding a 70 degree banked turn near the end to replace the double helix. So the ride will be a bit shorter, but I think that'll be a pretty good improvement than that helix.

    • @justiceleaguebattleformetr9239
      @justiceleaguebattleformetr9239 6 лет назад +2

      Tony Kim my home park, Six Flags St. Louis, did the same thing with their wooden coaster The Boss. It had a 570 degree helix at the end, but was replaced with a u-turn.

    Worlds of fun use to have water misters everywhere but one year they just went away. So I came up with the theory that WOF took the misters out to attract more guests to the OOF. But it doesn't bother me for I only like the WOF part and it keeps guests away.

      It was a nice roller coaster, but they had to take it down because it needed maintenance way more than any other ride. I believe the addition and promotion of the Mamba since it was new then and the infamous July 1999 incident would be what contributed to the collapse of the OE’s reliability.

  • @PastTime777
    @PastTime777 7 лет назад +6

    Visited in 2015 checking off Patriot and Mamba from my list. Didn't visit the water park. Lines were short. I don't think this park gets huge crowds on the dry side.
    What you said at the end about them needing another major coaster could be said about all 3 step child parks at the bottom of my Cedar Fair list. The parks at the bottom are great, but they are neglected by Cedar Fair when it comes to new attractions.
    Cedar Point - Soak City Expansion
    Carowinds - County Fair (4 new flats)
    Kings Island - Mystic Timbers (GCI)
    Kings Dominion - Planet Snoopy Expansion
    Dorney Park - Dodgem (bumper cars) Kaleidoscope (Troika)
    California's Great America - Vortex Floorless Conversion (Patriot)
    Knotts Berry Farm - Soak City Expansion, Sol Spin Top Scan, Ghost Town Alive
    Worlds of Fun - Mustang Runner (Trioka) Falcon's Flight (Huss Condor)
    Valley Fair - Northstar (Star Flyer)
    Michigan's Adventure - Half Pint Paradise (Kiddie Water Park)
    Cedar Fair was supposed to re-do the entrance at all their parks and have a major coaster flying across the front like they did at CP and Carowinds. But this idea has fizzled. Hopefully they get on the RMC bandwagon and put a unique coaster in each park. Six Flags was doing this but they stopped, what a mistake. SFoG, SFA, SFNJ, and SFStl all deserve their RMC. That parody with the boomerang would work here, except you could use cards that say RMC while the others have a Joker on them.

    this is my home park and i agree that cedar fair could easily make this a super nice park possibly the next flag ship park what with all the land they could easily fit in a nice launch coaster a giga an rmc and a thrill ride expansion and still have room to spare a launched wing coaster would be phenomenal and would fit theme with each section during haunt the park is on 3 train operations and even with 3 trains i waited 2 hours to ride Mamba but a night ride on Mamba and Prowler is totally worth the entry price alone also we have one of the most under rated haunts ever ive been told by many park guests when i was employed as a haunt scarer that we are better than Knotts and Carowinds. i love your vids and thanks for enjoying my home park im glad u didnt bomb it like with some park reviews lol

Now they lost entrance with it. Now it is mostly putting area full of car dealerships. They do have a BBQ Stand that opens on the Weekends that served BBQ Nachos and They focus on the Schlitterbahns in Texas more then the one outside of Texas that is in Kansas City.

    I love this park! I went here on Sunday before the eclipse. Prowler is better than Mystic Timbers and Thunderhead as I rank them, and undoubtably the best coaster in the park. Mamba has an awesome first half, including perhaps the best near miss element in the world (that support on the turnaround feels so close!) however I was dissapointed in the second half, as the bunny hills were airtimeless. Still a fun ride though. Patriot is the first coaster to truely cause me to grey out. After that drop through the first 2 inversions, I greyed out, every time. I also found Timberwolf to be not even close to as bad as I have heard. Oceans of Fun is a pretty cool waterpark. Not as good as the stand alone waterparks, like Raging Waves or Shliterban, but one of the better waterparks tied to an amusement park.

    For some extra space they could add, they should consider a couple new sections like Amazonia to reflect on the culture of tropical South America and Australia hence the name of the country that’s part of Oceania and its culture. For the 2019 season, the portion of Americana that has the Timber Wolf and other rides and attractions based on what looks like rural America or the Western United States with woody vibes was spun-off and newly named “Wild West” while what remained in the existing Americana section reflects more to the Eastern United States like Virginia, DC, and New York. And where the Mamba roller coaster sits could be spun off from Africa and newly named “Mamba Mountain”. The Gateway Gardens near the park entrance was once called the International Plaza after being spun-off from Scandinavia. The Orient that reflects on Asian culture in the past few years was renamed to “East Asia” due to the fact that its signature roller coaster the Orient Express had long been axed after the 2003 season due to high maintenance costs that they couldn’t keep budgeting.

    I will say that, this being my home park, they rarely don’t run 2 trains, no matter how crowded
    Another thing is that, you mentioned you don’t need a full day. My family gets season passes every year. It is only about 90 dollars and a regular pass is 50-60. Since we go a lot it’s worth it. We normally get there at opening, normally 10, and leave by 1. From about 10-11:30 it is dead, after that it fills up. So being able to go every weekend it is fine to go there, ride all the rides, and leave by the time it fills up. Normally get food on the way back

    I live in Kansas City. Worlds of Fun is fine, I just wish Cedar Fair would invest more into it. A new rollercoaster, some facelifts around the park, ect would be much appreciated.
    Timberwolf has good days and bad days it seems like. Sometimes when I ride it, it's fine. Other times it's just painful. Maybe it depends on car, train, ect.

      Coaster Studios Yeah, I kind of would be surprised as well as not be surprised. I would be surprised as most attractions Liseberg removes do end up going to smaller European parks, however Screamscape did mention that Kanonen was apparently sold to a North American park, so we should definitely keep our eyes open to see any signs of Kanonen in any park.

    The Water park, is VERY VERY good. They use to be seperate tickets and were worth it, now that its a one tickets for both parts, the value is really insane. As far as Water Parks go, its collection of slides and pools is truly Elite. Better than Knotts water park and Cedar points water park. So I think its the best Cedar Point Water park. I think Worlds of Fun is a must park as is if you do the Water park too. I actually think Cyclone Sams was a very fun Flat ride masquareding as a dark ride. Mambe I think is a truly elite coaster too. Worth the visit if you never been for that Credit for sure.

    i visited worlds of fun yesterday and during my trip to the park multiple employees mentioned that they were told by park management that worlds of fun will be adding a new coaster in 2018. the description i was given spoke of an inverted coaster 2 vertical loops to corkscrews and a chain lift the manufacturer is unknown (the elements in the ride sounds off but the rumor of a new coaster sounded very real :i was only given description by one employee:)

    I am such a member of the General Public now. For some reason RUclips recommended a Coaster Studios video a few weeks back, and since then I've watched some Coaster Studios videos. When I was a little kid a visit to an amusement park was always a highlight of my summer. Usually Worlds of Fun, which was at most a 15 minute drive away from where I lived the first decade of my life. If we took a family vacation to the Branson area, then we would do a day at Silver Dollar City instead. But anyway, as a little kid after we'd do our day or two at an amusement park I would keep looking at the park map for weeks afterward, wishing I could go back. Then around the turn of the millennium, despite never being much of a computer gamer otherwise, I did waste a huge number of hours playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2. So it shocks me a little now to realize that I've only ever been to 3 amusement parks in my life. Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City, and a day at Six Flags over Texas in the mid 1990s on a family vacation to central Texas when I was a teenager. (I'm 37 now.) Plus some carnival rides at fairs when I was younger, and I did an alpine coaster at I believe Estes Park in Colorado when I was in my early 20s. I was going to go to Coney Island and ride the Cyclone and Wonder Wheel on one trip to NYC, but then I realized after I was in NYC that Coney Island amusement parks weren't open on weekdays until a week or two after my trip would be over, and I was going home before the weekend. It shocks me a little that after loving amusement parks so much as a little kid, as an adult there have been years where I've never made it to an amusement park at all. Probably because there have been years when I have always been at one extreme or the other of either always working or always being broke, and I'm a bachelor without a huge circle of friends, and it's not as much fun to go to an amusement park alone. And I am now more subject to motion sickness than I was as a kid. I will take Dramamine or other medicines like it throughout the day when I do go to an amusement park, and I think I'm still mostly okay with roller coasters, since coasters have a variety of different G force sensations. But some of the flat rides that only do one thing, repetitively, can make me very green in the gills and even toss my cookies. It's kind of embarrassing to get on a ride that I would have loved as a kid, and that wouldn't normally be described as especially extreme, like a swinging ship, and throwing up on the ride.

    • @GentlemanJon
      @GentlemanJon 7 лет назад

      I think Worlds of Fun was so much better when I was a kid. I'm sure that's partly because I was so much more easily impressed as a child, and now I'm looking back on it with nostalgia goggles. But I think there is also at least the possibility that an objective outsider would say that in the 1980s until at least the mid 90s that WOF management put more money into the park, relative to inflation, than Cedar Fair does now. Worlds of Fun used to be owned by a company founded by Lamar Hunt, the guy that owned the Kansas City Chiefs, and it and Oceans of Fun were the only parks they operated. Now I feel like Cedar Fair just sees WOF as one more park they own among many. WOF's current entrance used to be only a side entrance. The side entrance was the only one that you could walk to your car from. If your parents were cheapskates, you could get your hand stamped at the side entrance, go to your car to get your cooler, have a picnic lunch in a wooded picnic area between two parking lots, and then go back into the park. But the main entrance was in Americana, about where the Steelhawk windseeker is now. You had to ride a tram from the parking lot to the main entrance or vice versa. But it was more in keeping with the Around The World in 80 Days park theming that you would begin and end your day in America. Now it seems a little strange to have a tree shaded fountain square with a bunch of shops and food stalls around it, nowhere near the park entrance. But I think the park was themed a little more in general when I was a kid compared to now. There was a kids ride called Bounce-a-roos that had a kangaroo theme that was put in the Europe section, as there was no Australia section, but for the most part they tried to keep things themed to the area of the park they were in, and I'm not sure Cedar Fair cares as much.

    • @GentlemanJon
      @GentlemanJon 7 лет назад

      But you are absolutely right about the open space around the park. Some of the open space around the park has never had anything there, but some space used to have roller coasters, now removed and never replaced. When I was a kid, the Orient Express was a huge deal. Wikipedia tells me it had some roller coaster firsts when it first opened. I will admit that the last few years before they took it out it was getting pretty rough, the kind of ride that could turn your ears beet red from banging into the sides of the restraint system. When the ride was younger, I don't think it was anywhere near as rough. But I don't know that it was ever worse than a brand new Boomerang, plus being a full circuit ride it was more fun.

    • @GentlemanJon
      @GentlemanJon 7 лет назад

      When I was a kid, I was always tall for my age, and there was a time when I was tall enough to meet some height requirement for adult rides but I couldn't read yet. During this time, for one visit I was really excited to go and ride roller coasters. That morning, I rode a steel corkscrew coaster where Timber Wolf is now, and afterwards I wasn't really sure if I liked it, but after I had been all excited to ride roller coasters that morning, I wasn't going to admit to that. So I said that I had liked it. Then, that night after sundown my Dad tricked me into riding the Orient Express. I can still sort of remember seeing the Chinese Dragon logo lit up in the head chopper element as the train left the station before the chain lift catches the train, and then some of the loops in the dark. But after I got off that ride, Dad asked me what I thought, and I left no doubt about how I did not like it at that age, and it was a few years before I would ride any roller coaster again. But I am glad I started riding coasters again after a few years, and got to ride (and love!) the Orient Express again before it started to deteriorate and get really rough. Anyhow, the spinning roller coaster and the Patriot are both nearish to where the Orient Express's old footprint was, but I have read that neither ride actually occupy any of the Orient Express's footprint. Not much of it, anyway. They have utilized the Express's station house for Halloween season haunted houses, but otherwise they took out the Orient Express but didn't put anything in in its physical place.

    • @GentlemanJon
      @GentlemanJon 7 лет назад

      The Zambezi Zinger was a great family ride. I regret I didn't start riding it earlier, but after my early experience on the Orient Express there were a few years where all roller coasters intimidated me equally. Anyway, the Zinger was a great ride for the whole family. Certainly not extreme, but everyone could ride it. Being built in the trees helped make it more fun than it might otherwise be if it were out in the open. The tunnel at the end was a huge plus. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it isn't pretty much the same ride as the Whizzer at Six Flags Great America. But the Zambezi Zinger never had any kind of restraints at all, not even seatbelts. It was simply positive Gs keeping riders in the seats. Worlds of Fun doesn't really have any kind of family coaster today. Maybe Spinning Dragons, but some might be put off by the spinning. Mamba is smooth as glass and has no inversions, but some might be scared off just by its height. I happen to think Prowler is a great ride, a completely uncontroversial opinion, but I don't know if it would qualify as a family coaster. And WOF has never really put anything in the space that the Zambezi Zinger occupied. I guess when the Boomerang first opened, the line opened onto the midway where the Zinger's did, but the Boomerang itself never occupied any of the Zinger's footprint. And they have moved the Boomerang's entrance since then. The Zinger's station house has been used by haunted houses, and I believe that now Dinosaurs Alive may occupy some or all of the Zinger's footprint. But I'm sure that if it were up to subscribers of Coaster Studios, it would be no contest to have a ride there instead of animatronic dinosaurs that require an additional fee to see.

    • @GentlemanJon
      @GentlemanJon 7 лет назад

      Timber Wolf was a huge deal when it opened, and was a lot of fun for the first few years of its existence. I can remember one time I went to WOF with a church group on a Sunday afternoon and it rained off and on all day long. We'd ride water rides, and the splashes from the water rides would be warmer than the raindrops. But anyway, we got on the Timber Wolf and the sky really opened up. There's no way to avoid the rain going up a lift hill, face up into the rain. And the rain drops sure stung going at speed. But the ride seemed faster in the rain, and I had a lot of fun. I was completely soaked, but it was sure fun. But after the first few years, Timber Wolf has gotten rough. I have ridden it when it seemed a little rough, but within what you'd expect on a wooden coaster, and other times when I've gotten off of it and decided that it ought to be renamed the Assault and Battery. I suppose it just depends on where the ride is in its maintenance cycle, and I suppose what the temperature and humidity is doing to the timber that day. But the fear of a bad ride that would take some time to recover from the resulting head and body aches can make one think twice before giving it a chance. I hope the Prowler ages more gracefully than the Timber Wolf has.
