Well, WotC has officially given everyone the finger with their 30th anniversary product, so I hope your channel gets more positive traffic as more people turn to proxies rather than putting up with Wizards' BS.
This. Exactly this. I'm currently making my own set of proxies because of 30th anniversary. I've supported this game since 2014 and that was the nail in the coffin.
So glad just came across your channel.. This is amazing access to budget magic and/or even Pimp out decks. Great for getting new players to play for fun. Deffo gotta get started on these custom Alt Art.
That means a lot. I’ve gotten a bit of hate on some of my videos by the folks who are against proxies (not sure why they watched the video) but proxies definitely have their uses and i wish people were more open to understanding their usefulness. I personally make decks with real cards and once ive tuned it to where im happy, i just proxy it out to make it look cool and so that way i can use the cards in my next deck. I made a full alter shorikai deck in foil that im gonna post a review of this week!
What card stock, print type, and finish do you recommend? Also have you used Printing Proxies before? Any comparison to them? They're the only ones I used before but their price is 3x as high (or higher, at certain quantities) than Make Playing Cards... Finally.. when I'm loading up cards into MPC... the editor makes it look like the edges are going to be lopped off.... is that actually a legit problem or are they just covering their butts in case they have a bad printer alignment day? Over at Printing Proxies they tell you to make sure nothing goes to the edge etc but... never had an issue with them the cards were always perfectly centered with the full art visible.
Thank you for this and your other video walkthrough on making these. You mentioned how the proxy cards differ slightly in feel and thickness... Can you go into a little more detail that and side by side comparisons?
you mentioned the thickness is a little bit different than regular cards, i was wondering if it would still be noticeable once they are sleeved next to regular cards in a deck? as in a deck of mixed together proxy /non-proxy cards
I tried placing an order with them a few weeks ago and they messaged me saying that they can’t print mtg due company policy. I didn’t have anything printed on the back so it would be obvious that they are proxies. But the customer service person said they can’t do things with copyrights on them and that the text and/or image would have to be different enough in order to print. Did you do anything special to order through MPC?
I wish I could fine someone who sold these decks, I've sold off most of my MTG cards during the pandy and would love to buy some ready to go Commander decks just to have to play
Hi there, this looks pretty great, but one question: you mention the thickness/feel of the cards is slightly different than a real card but that it's not an issue when the whole deck is proxied. What if we're just looking to add some proxies to a deck we already have, will the card feel off when put in a deck with real (sleeved) cards? Or will the sleeves help the card fit in?
They work perfectly fine. If it’s just a few in the deck I like to put a lower power card behind the proxy so if I’m playing more casually or if somebody has a problem with the proxies, I can just pull the proxy out of the sleeve
Late to the game here, got to this video from your video on how to order. How much are these per card? 25 cents? Fits in magic sleeves just fine I would imagine if not the exact same?
So I usually order a 216 card deck (2 commander decks with tokens) and it’s usually ~40$ and 20$ shipping. If you include shipping in the cost averaging per card it comes out to about $0.27 per card. I think tho if you make a larger order the cost per card goes down a bit
Pricing changes per "deck" depending on the amount you purchase, you don't begin to get a discount until you purchase more than 5 and they'd all be the same set of 5.
I think proxies get a bad rep from situations like this; having so many different arts that the cards become unrecognizable from across the table make the play experience tedious. Especially when you're using actual card art but on the wrong card, like the skullclamp with the surgical extraction art on it. TLDR; be sparing with your use of alternate art to avoid tedious questioning of your permanents.
so i guess you're opposed to secret lair cards too then? or judge promos or other cards with very rarely seen art? even if you are, it doesn't matter, they are legal to play. so you'd be sitting across the table from a small selection of cards you don't recognize...so what? your opponent will tell you what the card is and now you know. too easy. if an opponent creates a copy of something and has to draw it on a card, that too is unrecognizable but doesn't hinder gameplay. in short, get over yourself
@@jlbrooks74 I'm not opposed to rarely seen art, but the key word there is "rarely". Most people don't have their decks doled out in rare arts, that's what makes them rare. To many people the art on magic cards is part of the immersion of the game. It's usually flavorful and representative of what the card is trying to do, even in most of the rare art situations the art depicts what the card does. When you decide to replace all of the art with your favorite anime characters or whatever it takes away from the flavor of the game. It's like showing up to a chess tournament, and switching out the king for Mario, the queen for peach, the bishops for Luigi etc. Does the game still work the same? Sure. But nobody is going to appreciate it except you.
@@jayjayhooksch1 I could probably go with you on your point if these proxies were chock full of anime or any other outside the fantasy genre art depictions. all of the art used here is either stretch art of the originals, very close renditions of the same characters in different poses or actions, or something close enough so you know what the art is representing. you are trying to bring an issue to these proxies that does not exist. he's got a purphoros for example. larger art, posed different, but resembles the original enough so you can recognize the character. if he plays that and says this is purphoros...well it does look like the chracter named purphoros so play on. if someone were to use those things, then sure, i'd also have an issue with the immersion stealing they do for me as a player. you and i can't even really bitch that much about it because crap like stranger things and walking dead exist 😐 to further upset your point there are a million chess sets out there that do use Mario, Game of Thrones, My Little Pony, Pokemon and who knows what else for the game pieces....we know what the king does and as long as you show me which one the king is, I guess we have a game on our hands.
@@jlbrooks74 No, it's not the case that all of the art here is either stretch art or close renditions. There are literally anime characters as well as art from other legal magic cards - his skullclamp has art from surgical extraction on it.
