Broken Smiles actually the merchant sells things very underpriced , if you do the conversion of pesetas (pts) to euro you will find out that the bazzoka is worth 160 euros lol

Andrewik actually, they've both voice acted for Leon, so we're both right. My fault! The similar last names confused me, and I didn't know about Paul Mercier before your comment. Cheers!
I feel its possible he might not have wanted to join the cult so when his plaga hatched he might have had control and decided to pick up stealing from the cult idk I could be wrong I never really thought why was there.
Luis Sera uses the Red 9. When you buy the Red 9 from the merchant he says something different than usual, showing his appreciation for the Red 9. This may be a link to the luis grandfather theory
Merchant is running a highly complex game in which Saddler, Leon, Ashley, Salazar and all the rest are merely players. He is not selling arms, as he is responsible for distributing the gold and treasures throughout the areas Leon visits. These are then 'sold' back to him as a form of credit which can be used to purchase various goods. The merchant is also responsible for distributing ammunition and grenades throughout the areas, as these are items which have no good reason to be present (none of the regular enemies are capable of using them). The Merchant is one man. Killing him is non-canon. The whole story is an elaborate game staged with real actors who do not know they are part of it. Just consider the following: The Merchant has to be responsible for planting the ammo, items, gold and treasures throughout the game's many areas. He never sells you ammo (only guns), but he clearly has tons of it (would be too easy for Leon if he could just buy bullets). He sells you maps showing the location of all the valuable treasure, so he must know where they are; ergo he planted them. A lot of the treasures are picked up multiple times (the jewels and jewelry); it is conceivable the Merchant reuses them as Leon progresses through the various areas. Ditto with the gold, which is obviously in short supply. You turn it in to the Merchant, he counts it up, keeps a running tab on your current worth, and then recycles the gold bars and coins for later use. He shows up everywhere. It is not possible to get ahead of him, because he knows exactly where Leon is going (and must go). He interacts with no one else besides Leon. He arranges to conveniently have the surgery chair free and ready to use. The Las Plagas infection might even be an elaborate ruse as far as Leon and Ashley are concerned. He sets up numerous little challenges for Leon, like the blue medallions and the multi-piece treasures. It's all an elaborate show, put on for the entertainment of this one Merchant. The dog that Leon finds is his trained pet. That is how it is able to avoid El Gigante's attacks. It has been trained to do so. The Ganados do not attack him or go near him. In fact, they won't even appear in his general area. That's because he is in charge of all of it. He is the real cult leader and the master of Las Plagas. Everyone else Leon encounters in his adventure apart from Luis and Ada are pawns in his game.
Not happening. They want to go back to survival horror with a psychological twist. Sorry but the action packed front flip out of several story tall building die hard movie script days are over. Return to survival horror is back for good with resident evil 7 gaming system/engine. They came to their senses with the RE2 remake and realized they were going downhill since RE4. Hence why resident 7 is nothing like 4. 5. And 6. And why theres no unhuman like powers to push boulders and do ridiculous spin kicks off of buildings. To hell with new age resident evil And hello a new era of traditional resident evil but with a supernatural psychological twist
It would be interesting if the merchant is actually part of the connections that was mentioned in re7. And how they were working with umbrella behind the scenes, they were/are more interested in mind control fungus and the like. However that wouldn't be too far off re 4 mind control parasites. Maybe he was sent down to investigate the los plagas as a potential mind control weapon before they eventually wrote that off and decided to go with their fungus based research instead of the parasite based one. Would explain how he has so many weapons. Maybe he was using that as a disguise or to put the parasite to the test by selling leon everything he could need to fight off the los plagas why would he do that? Probably for more data on the parasite it self, all while he can keep his hands clean and stay out of the shadows. He has shown he is incredibly smart and cunning. Through the use of hidden passages ways to the fact he can modify just about any weapon as long as leon coughs up the $$$. He seems perfectly fitting to be in a secret company that managed to keep their hands clean until re7. Since the connections was explained a bit in the last game and the rumors/leaks about re8 taking place in a place village-esq area he could make a return as a big story line character. He does have a lot he could offer if they actually wanted to use the character. And what better way than to continue some left over re4 side plots than the 8th game in the series 4 games after re4. (Okay that was a joke, not gonna go full blown Illuminati conspiracy theory on cha all.) The connections are in the market for creating bio weapons out of kids. Why is that important? Well, at the end of the game during the credits it shows all the kids in the village being experimented on in re4 but they all died, knowingly or unknowingly they would die we don't know. Maybe the connections caught wind of that and is why they sent the merchant down there? The connections interest line up/point at the los illuminados is all i know.
This guy obviously never played the game on Professional mode. If you play on Professional, then he won't come back if you shoot him. Once he dies, he is gone for good.
Have you played it on the Infected mode, though? No merchant, no saves allowed, no first-air or herbs, nothing at all. Just a knife and your 90s bowl-cut hairstyle. The way its meant to be played.
WHAT ARE YOU BUYING?. WHAT ARE YOU SELLING?. AHH...NOW THAT'S A WEAPON?. STRANGER, STRANGER, NOW THATS A WEAPON?. AHH..ILL BUY IT AT A HIGH PRICE?. HEHEHE..THANK YOU.
Me and my bff pretty much bonded over playing RE4 in our teen years and to this day 10 years later we still quote the merchant at each other. Great video dude
I always looked at the merchant as someone who broke free from control but lacked the ability to fight a entire city worth of ganados, then enter leon someone with that ability and all he needs is the tools...
+Gerry Buckets If you compare his prices to the real world price for most of the weapons he sells, he's practically giving them away. If all he cared about was profit, he could sell this stuff to the Los Illuminados for a much higher price. So my theory is that he's staging a small rebellion against Sadler by stealing weapons and equipment from the Los Illumindos and selling it to anyone who's willing to fight against them. As for why he's not just giving it away for free, my best guess is that he's trying to raise enough money to rebuild his life after this nightmare is over.
+Gerry Buckets "Where do the ganados get the rocket launchers from?" That's actually one of the reasons for this theory. The only ganados who have that kind of fire power, or any real military equipment for that matter, are the ones on the island. The rest are using pitchforks and the like as weapons. If Salazar is any indication, then the Los Illuminados should be well funded so why are only a small number of them being given actual combat gear? One possibility is that said gear is being stolen by the merchant to sell to us.
@Warrior of Virtue That's not true, there were multiple guys with rockets in the castle, as well as a free rocket launcher you can find in the castle. They werent only on the island
I don't care who he is. I don't care where he came from. I don't care if he's the demon spawn of Hitler and Stalin and drowns puppies and babies in his spare time. At the end of the day he's my homie ride or die. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing him skulking around the corner.
Bullshit ride or die, this fucker was waiting in the last corner before the last battle and i killed him thinking was a fucking enemy and never came back i had to replay the whole game again, thats where i learned multiple saves come in handy
@@REXURECTION @Xavier Hernandez Was it really the first time you played the game and what screwed you was this guy at the end? Pretty peculiar. Anyway, it's funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love how capcom, when producing the game, probably thought "we need to create some way to the player to buy stuff" then came up with the merchant idea and then thought "OK, now the player has a way to buy things" but was never thinking of a side story about him or whatever. Yet we're here speculating shit
They have sold re4 for every single console. I think a remake would sell like if it was a new game. If that was the case I’d buy the new re 4 for sure and most of the people will for sure
top 10 anime accounts RE4 is to modern for a remake. They only remade really old games that use outdated control schemes and mechanics. RE4 doesn’t need that because is built with this. An HD remake is enough for Capcom
+SwankyBox If you play the game on the harder difficulties (Technically canon playthrough) When you kill the merchant, he stays dead... This debunks the theory of him being multiple people.
my younger brother killed him once because he was wondering if he could kill him. he said he got scared and shut off the PlayStation... he was like 7 or something...
No merchant in RE5 or 6, clearly this guy is Leon related only... remember when he first shows up, after and only after Leon is first injected with Las Plagas while captured with Sera. perhaps the merchant is just a drug side effect and Leon hallucinates him which explains the dying and coming back to life cant kill what never existed
But Ada met the merchant before Leon and wasn't infected either. Ashley had seen him too. They also buy stuff from him so the merchant can't be a hallucination.
Well, I deduced a theory that MAY explain the Merchant. The Merchant is an outsider. He travels around alot dealing to those who can afford what he has to offer. During RE4, however, he comes across Saddler. Interested in arming the Ganodos, Saddler purchases many things from the Merchant and he stays around in case Saddler wants to deal some more. Then you, as Leon, come across him. He only sees you as a way to make money so he welcomes you. His eyes would glow red like the Ganodos because he probably intereacted with Saddler in a way. Perhaps Saddler didn't pay the Merchant in money, but instead in a power of some kind. That's all I could think of.
Ak-47_ Supercard It literally took me like 20 minutes to think of this. I just pieced together everything I knew and everything that could most likely be possible.
Not to shoot down an idea, but you can only kill the merchant repeatedly on normal mode. If you kill him on professional mode( which is obviously a very unprofessional choice considering the increased difficulty level and how the merchant provides your items), he will not come back. We could say that professional mode is the more realistic mode of the game, where your actions have more of an impact than on normal mode in which case the death of the merchant has now gone from something funny to a decision you will regret. With this said and considering how he will not show up after you kill him, it is not possible that there is more than one merchant. Unless of course the merchants heard word about a buyer killing one of them for no reason and then decided they were done trading with this guy so hid away, then that multiple merchants theory would make sense. Then again he could just be placed about for our benefit so that when things get rough or you just escaped a battle on low health, used up all your items, and have no ammunition left he would be there for you. Personally I never intentionally shot the merchant( I was afraid it would initiate one of the hidden instant death sequences and he would pull a gun on me), but isn't it common sense to not want to try and kill the guy who provides you with weapons? Just saying.
Makes a lot of sense. And with that, it probably is also true that the merchant uses a secret passage system that helps him get around quickly and stash his munitions.
DJ Zek From what my sister told me, who is also his friend, he actually made a video that showed the Merchant doing just that. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it anywhere. Nor could I find his account.
crazy thing is that if you try and shoot luis enough times in the cabin where you gotta survive hordes of zombies then it'll trigger some sort of death scene where luis shoots and kills you
Your task is to save the president's daughter. You are sent to battle with a pistol and 18 bullets....Don't mind the 40,000 US Special Forces, one guy with a pistol and 18 bullets is enough.
PFG - 45 Ag. 042-IO It is 3 guys actually... The 2 useless cops who die at the start and leon. The dumb thing is that knowing that Leon was surrounded and the central of operations had contact with him they didn't send him reinforcements...
PFG - 45 Ag. 042-IO that's why a put a mod in game to have león with a two assult weapons and a armour ...it's a lot more realistic that just a guy with a pistol to save the most powerful man on earth daughter
i think the Marchant is the director of this game, he likes to show up every couple of minutes just like how Stan lee shows up in every Marvel movie made xD
The merchant is likely someone infected with a dominant strain plaga (Hence why he doesnt work for saddler). Also, Leon never kills the merchant in canon, you as a player may, but Leon never did.
Any theory of him being connected to a family of immediate Hispanic descent makes no sense when you consider The Merchant has a clear-as-day Australian accent. I like the idea of him being a really powerful character who had a different reaction to the virus, and could indeed resist Sadler's control. If anything, no matter how you look at it, there isn't enough evidence to make a theory that isn't convoluted as shit.
On that note though, one could argue that the Merchant may have grown up in a different area and carried that accent with him. Similarly, Luis was born in a primarily Hispanic area, and if he perhaps had a Hispanic mother/father, then it is possible that the two could very well just be different due to where they were brought up. If traveling over the Merchant's lifetime took place then it is still possible for them to have different accents. It's a stretch either way, but it is still fun to think about.
SwankyBox Yeah, I saw that theory in other comments. Still, though. Like you said, it's a stretch. I wish there was an answer, though. We all love Merchant!
Swankybox, you forgot one CRUCIAL detail about killing off the merchant. You mention how you can kill off the merchant, and he will just be there again, but this does not happen on Professional difficulty. He simply dies off, no more buying, no more selling, you're fucked basically. And I think it's safe to say that out of the 2 difficulty levels available in Resident Evil 4, Professional closest emulates the experience Leon has went through, and is probably more 'canon' of the two. Therefore, there is an inconsistency with your theory.
I think it would be less canon. Think of it like this. The reason he doesn't die is the canon says so. Why would Leon murder the man who only wants to sell him shit, and buy shit off him., he wouldn't Which is why he always comes back, because in reality Leon Wouldn't do it as he has no reason to, and would be completely out of character for him to.
You do have a point there, and it's very much like the idea that Mario doesn't actually have extra lives because beating the game is the canon story, where he never died at all. But what Shane said is that Professional is the difficulty that most closely matches canon, in that it's the more difficult adventure with Leon barely scraping through. In that difficulty, were Leon to kill the Merchant, he doesn't come back to life. Not to say that killing him is canon, just that that's how canon behaves. Of course we are basing this on the assumption that Professional is canon, but there are game series that explicitly call out the harder difficulty as being the real story, so why not?
Patrick Cox Easy, we are talking about Resident evil Series Doesn't matter which difficulty is canon as the canon is what ever the next Dev retcons it to.
I also found the Merchant as a swell guy too. He gives you an easy challenge and if you complete it he gives you a gun free of charge. Also in some locations, he leaves ammo on his set up for Leon to take, also free of charge. His prices are also quite reasonable and he buys treasures at a great price. Idk, I just get an overall friendly vibe from him that just likes to do business
The Wesker connection makes sense given their accent. Maybe the Merchant is helping generate field data about which weapons are most effective at countering mobs and bio weapons. This also explains why there is a rewards point system every time you kill a ganado. The Merchant collects data about weapons that are resistant to the bio weapons. Wesker benefits from this data, as he can then develop even stronger bio weapons.
There are several actually...Leon, Luis, Ashley, Ada, Saddler, Salazer Krauser, and hell, even the chainsaw guy has a backstory and name, Dr. Salvador. Oh, and MIIIKKKEEE. The greatest character of all time.
My theory on the merchant is sometime before the Las plagas incident he went to Spain to trade and sell arms and goods he learned of all the secret passages from Louis sera's grandfather however when the incident broke out he tried to escape. Captured and made a deal with Sadler he would sell his Wares to Sandler at a reasonable price if he got a master plaga instead of a regular one at the time Sadlier needed office supplies and help he could get so he agreed and the merchant never really agreed with Sadler's views and was very upset that Sadler infected him so that's why Leon meets him in Secret locations because the merchant is getting his revenge through Leon. Also interesting fact not related to Resident Evil 4 but to the series there are technically bow weapons, people working for the bsaa I would not be surprised if the merchant was one of them
The Merchant is from a far away land.....a land called Skyrim...and the Merchant's true identity is Khajiit 🐱and "Khajiit has wares if you have coin.....stranger." 🐈
Personally i think he's an infected dealer who's lust for cash / weapons if far more greater than any other thing controlling him and i like it. Shows you how much passionate he is for his business that he can survive anywhere and even control himself even if he is infected.
I think i'v cracked it it, the reason the merchant doesn't ally with the other ganados is because like saddler he carries a master plaga, if saddler knew about him he would consider him a threat but the merchant might also be a able to ward off lesser ganados simply because of the fact he carries a master plaga, he's doing arms deals with leon because it would be easier than directly confronting saddler (and the p.r.l412 won't kill him because his egg hasn't fully matured yet) ?
And ganados can kill him i once led a ganados right to him and he threw his axe at the merchant died right there in proffasional mode if he died hes dead for good
Interesting, but i think so called master-plaga is simply an ordinary plaga that grew long enought interacting whith owner`s mind and developing a specific features to fit him or her better. In fact, plaga seems to consider all of the infected as parts of itself, that`s why it wants to spread itself and control them, even the ones who saved their minds after infestation (Merchant himself is probably being one of such few). It means to grow to be stronger, and remove competition, radically changing an ecosystem around. And where is nowhere else to spread, it will start dieing out, (like it happend before Sadler found it), turning every dead cell of it`s body into a dry spore that can become an egg once got into new creatures body (that`s why dead infected shrink and disappear in a puddle), so the cycle can begin again.
He's just a your friendly neighborhood businessman. Everyone likes him and he likes everyone. I'd imagine he was already an arms dealer that just so happened to be in the region when Saddler was doing his thing. And saddler was all like "Yo, I got these awesome parasites that'll give you eternal life. I'll make you a custom parasite in exchange for some weapons. You'll also be able to sell to whoever you want and can live here for free. We even got these cool secret tunnels so you can get around easily. Whatcha say?" And merchant man was all like "Hehehe, thank you". There you have it. Merchant man got a custom parasite that makes him immortal, leaves him independent, and resurrects him in exchange for a fuck ton of firepower. He also got a free place to store his stuff and conduct business.
My theory is that in RE4 the whole infection process was about creating the perfect parasite for regeneration purposes that wouldn't control the host and easily be controlled by Saddler, however all the experiments had some sort of failure: El gigante destroyed the host, random civilians are too weak, etc... the closest sucess are those in the lab that require a thermal scope. What if the merchant is a failure because he cannot be controlled by Saddler? But is a symbiotic succes? My theory is that he is one of a kind with a passive parasite that works without controlling him
@@meursault7030 they were artillerymen before the virus spread? They just conserved some of their identity... let the merchant be our best friend, come on bro

As far as Resident Evil 4 goes, here's a theory for you: I think Luis Sera was going to have his own short campaign but it was dropped. He leaves at odd times, like when he "forgets" the sample and has to run back, and wherever he escaped to after you and him were tied up together, among many other instances. Both Leon and Ada got their own stories, with both meeting and separating at different times throughout the game. Honestly Sera appears and disappears much like Ada does, but due to his higher prevalence in Leon's story than Ada it's possible that he may have had a longer story and due to time and space constraints, it wouldn't have been possible on the hardware back then. Also kind of explains why he's so well developed. He was made to be liked. Maybe even liked enough to play AS him. The only thing that potentially contradicts this is his lack of availability in the Mercenaries minigames-- he looks quite functional during the standoff in that cabin though, so I truly think he was meant to be played as at one point. Maybe they just couldn't program AI Leon to run around and push all of the bookcases in a timely manner while you played Luis in that cabin or something equally weird and they decided to drop it, i dunno it could be any number of reasons. Heck, possible spoilers, maybe they didn't feel right given how Luis' story ends... a bit anticlimactic. Still could have been fun though and if he'd been playable you'd literally have been able to play as EVERY important main character, Leon, Ashley, Ada, and then there'd be Luis. Oh well :(
I've got it! the merchant is actually the one in control of the las plagas! he got saddler to coerce Salazar to get the villagers to dig up the parasites. he then used his control of saddler and Salazar to concoct the whole kidnapping Ashley plan, and planned on there being so much opposition for whoever was sent in, that the person (or people) who inevitably need more weaponry (maybe also why they jack the line at the castle and island?) will have to buy his goods! he did this all to sell more weapons!
To answer the question that I'm sure you've all asked yourselves...The answer is "No". Women dont find it exciting when you look at their body, open your hoodie and say "ahhhh.... I'll buy it at a high price!"
+Chris Buns (CaveGamer64) No. Fuck the merchant. Makes no sense canonically, and being able to buy things like healing spray, rocket launchers, and full magazines take away from the survival aspect.
Nah, no need to drop an awsome character like The Merchant. Capcom just need to make sure that everything The Merchant sells is expensive enough to not hurting the Survival play (if you catch my drift?). Example, Instead of being able to buy a machine gun and a rocket launcher at once, you should be stuck thinking: Hhmm, should I buy a little more ammo for my gun? Or should I buy herbs? Hhmm choices. Balancing the Barting between the Player and The Merchant, makes RE7 more strategic and intresting, but Capcom need to balance this right.
The merchant is a manifestation of Leon’s imagination. Ashley never mentions him when Leon does business with him. This means Leon did it all on his own. Imagining this mysterious person was just a means to give self confidence to an agent who is way in over his head.
Something I find interesting about the theory that the merchant is Luis grandfather is that right before the first time you meet the merchant there is that cutscene with Leon and Luis trapped in that small building and after Luis departs, the merchant immediately starts to greet you. Making it seem almost as if the merchant had been watching over Luis and was following him. It would also make sense that the merchant would be helping Leon after finding out he and Luis have similar goals
It could just be a glitch with the game disregarding you stupidly killing the merchant so that you are able to arm yourself in the future on lower difficulties
+Muhammad Umer No, it's no glitch that in normal mode, when you kill the Merchant, he will come back. It's meant to be that way for Easy and Normal and if it were a glitch, it would have been patched after the Gamecube release, but seeing as it's in all versions on Normal or Easy difficulty, it's no glitch. On Professional, its intent is to let you know you're gonna be fucked if you kill the guy.
Legend part 2. The MERCHANT lives long after the resident evil biohazard incidents. Now well into the future. The MERCHANT still sells weapons to the Guardians in Destiny.

Just consider the following:
The Merchant has to be responsible for planting the ammo, items, gold and
treasures throughout the game's many areas. He never sells you ammo (only
guns), but he clearly has tons of it (would be too easy for Leon if he could
just buy bullets).
He sells you maps showing the location of all the valuable treasure, so he must
know where they are; ergo he planted them. A lot of the treasures are picked up
multiple times (the jewels and jewelry); it is conceivable the Merchant reuses
them as Leon progresses through the various areas. Ditto with the gold, which
is obviously in short supply. You turn it in to the Merchant, he counts it up,
keeps a running tab on your current worth, and then recycles the gold bars and
coins for later use.
He shows up everywhere. It is not possible to get ahead of him, because he
knows exactly where Leon is going (and must go). He interacts with no one else
besides Leon. He arranges to conveniently have the surgery chair free and ready
to use. The Las Plagas infection might even be an elaborate ruse as far as Leon
and Ashley are concerned.
He sets up numerous little challenges for Leon, like the blue medallions and
the multi-piece treasures.
It's all an elaborate show, put on for the entertainment of this one Merchant.
The dog that Leon finds is his trained pet. That is how it is able to avoid El
Gigante's attacks. It has been trained to do so.
The Ganados do not attack him or go near him. In fact, they won't even appear
in his general area. That's because he is in charge of all of it. He is the
real cult leader and the master of Las Plagas. Everyone else Leon encounters in
his adventure apart from Luis and Ada are pawns in his game.
This, was worth the read.
Part of me wishes this were the truth behind the character vs. he's just a merchant with no back story.
I always supected him to be the one and only "Lord Saddler" himself.... o.O
I'm pretty sure the Dog is the same Dog from Hunting Grounds.
you mentioned only deal with leon, well.. in separate ways he deals with Ada.
You just blew my mind lol
Merchant was a good lad back in them days.
Would'nt mind dealing with him again in RE8.

77moessa actually the leaks for resident evil 8 is going back to Europe! So it’s possible he could make an appearance
To hell with new age resident evil
And hello a new era of traditional resident evil but with a supernatural psychological twist
Well, The leaks have shown it called Resident evil: Village
(Okay that was a joke, not gonna go full blown Illuminati conspiracy theory on cha all.)
The connections are in the market for creating bio weapons out of kids.

I always looked at the merchant as someone who broke free from control but lacked the ability to fight a entire city worth of ganados, then enter leon someone with that ability and all he needs is the tools...
Yokonato that's good explanation brother
@Warrior of Virtue
That's not true, there were multiple guys with rockets in the castle, as well as a free rocket launcher you can find in the castle. They werent only on the island

Fun Fact : We always felt safe when we see that blue flame or just seeing this hooded figure of a man who always greets you with, "Welcome!"
I'm guessing since the plaga is afraid of light that is why they don't come near the merchant because of his blue flame.
Dude. That is genius.
But Ada met the merchant before Leon and wasn't infected either. Ashley had seen him too. They also buy stuff from him so the merchant can't be a hallucination.
That is incorrect, you can see him after Leon's plagas is removed and Ada can talk to him.
trippy
when did ada talk to the merchant?
Bruh Good Theory. I could consider this true.
Ak-47_ Supercard It literally took me like 20 minutes to think of this. I just pieced together everything I knew and everything that could most likely be possible.
Thats a good theory. It's obvious he's only in it for himself.
what the hell does the merchant spend on, with all the money he gets.
Jonathan Duran Hookers and blow.
Elon Snow I remember hearing from my friend that when the Merchant has red eyes and you stand next to him for too long, he breaks your neck.
PhillyCloud1234 That's... extremely.... fucking creepy... haha!

The merchant is likely someone infected with a dominant strain plaga (Hence why he doesnt work for saddler). Also, Leon never kills the merchant in canon, you as a player may, but Leon never did.
It's so dominant that the PRL doesn't even work on him.
Well, all I know is he has the same voice actor as Leon.

We all love Merchant!
i wouldnt say powerful you could kill him in one hit haha would not recommend tho
He doesn't sound Australian. Not in the way that I hear an Australian accent, anyway. He sounds closer to cockney.

I knew the merchant in college, he was such a nice guy always selling me guns.
I loved the line "Aah, I'll buy it at a high price!"

Therefore, there is an inconsistency with your theory.
as soon as he said that I scrolled down, glad you brought this up
I think it would be less canon.
Think of it like this.
The reason he doesn't die is the canon says so.
Why would Leon murder the man who only wants to sell him shit, and buy shit off him., he wouldn't
Which is why he always comes back, because in reality Leon Wouldn't do it as he has no reason to, and would be completely out of character for him to.
Patrick Cox
Easy, we are talking about Resident evil Series Doesn't matter which difficulty is canon as the canon is what ever the next Dev retcons it to.
Heh. And a future canon remake could completely change the entire presentation of the game. :P

Maybe he has the ability to bring himself back...Like wesker did.
Haha terminator theme song
IAMBUTTER yea
Bre Fujimoto does that mean Leon Kennedy is John Connor then? John Kennedy? Leon Carter?
Love the show too
The Wesker connection makes sense given their accent.
*One of Resident Evil 4's most iconic characters*
Isn't he one of the ONLY characters in the game?
There are several actually...Leon, Luis, Ashley, Ada, Saddler, Salazer Krauser, and hell, even the chainsaw guy has a backstory and name, Dr. Salvador.
Oh, and MIIIKKKEEE. The greatest character of all time.
watertommyz I was so pissed that mike was killed. Even more than Luis honestly.
Also interesting fact not related to Resident Evil 4 but to the series there are technically bow weapons, people working for the bsaa I would not be surprised if the merchant was one of them
why saddler just wont kill him and steal

Personally i think he's an infected dealer who's lust for cash / weapons if far more greater than any other thing controlling him and i like it. Shows you how much passionate he is for his business that he can survive anywhere and even control himself even if he is infected.
what do you mean? if anything Saddler is more passionate he kiddnap the presidents daughter just so he can ask more money for his cult xD
The prl is a non canon weapon
And ganados can kill him i once led a ganados right to him and he threw his axe at the merchant died right there in proffasional mode if he died hes dead for good
Lucina the bloodlustful reploid was the axe meant for you or did they attack him?
Whatcha say?"
And merchant man was all like "Hehehe, thank you".
There you have it. Merchant man got a custom parasite that makes him immortal, leaves him independent, and resurrects him in exchange for a fuck ton of firepower. He also got a free place to store his stuff and conduct business.
Hahaha best theory so far
My theory is that in RE4 the whole infection process was about creating the perfect parasite for regeneration purposes that wouldn't control the host and easily be controlled by Saddler, however all the experiments had some sort of failure: El gigante destroyed the host, random civilians are too weak, etc... the closest sucess are those in the lab that require a thermal scope.
What if the merchant is a failure because he cannot be controlled by Saddler? But is a symbiotic succes? My theory is that he is one of a kind with a passive parasite that works without controlling him
@@lol0787 None of the ganados have guns, though? Like 10-odd have bazookas and there are some mounted gattling guns but that's hardly a fair trade.
@@meursault7030 they were artillerymen before the virus spread? They just conserved some of their identity... let the merchant be our best friend, come on bro
@@meursault7030 did you forget the Gatlin gun guys...
He uses contact lens to protect him from zombies I looked his eyes through sniper
the big question is where is he now?
Waiting in the game for new buyers to come. If the game died, he would die with it.
Working at the DairyQueen on I-90.
Burn Beatbox
Probably in Walmart :v
Imagine if he makes a surprise return in Resident Evil 8. Honestly, I feel like he was a missed opportunity in 7.
Hes selling guns to chris redfield now

Los Illuminados you forgot
*death rattle*
Los Illuminados You forgot the Handcannon !
Los Illuminados I don't know why reading this made me happy, probably because I recognize every gun in the game that promotes special dialogue (Punisher, Red9, Handcannon, etc) or that I read these with his accent in play. Anyway, thanks for the read. s t r a n g e r 🤘
Los Illuminados is it bad that I knew exactly which weapon each of those was for

Oh well :(
Nice thinking mate
Dude, Good Analysis and Theroy, Im very Impressed, keep it up!
i always thought the red eyes mean something new is in the shop.
Best theory yet!
Joshua Ford i dont think so
Btw, I was being sarcastic.
Farner Vanzant oh wow that was so important to you that you came back after a whole month and found this comment. I forgot it existed tbh
:)
Me: *Goes outside for a walk*
Drug Merchant: *"I got something that might interest ya"*
Lmao 👌😂😂
A Penguin with a Gun I’d buy his drugs if it helps to fight a boss or a mob of zombies in a couple of streets ahead.
*strangah
What are ya buying?
"Heh heh heh what are ya buying?"
Is that all, Stranger?
Ahh... I'll buy it with the high price.
Heheheh... Thank you
Come back anytime
ahhhh......I like it.
not enough cash! stranger...
To answer the question that I'm sure you've all asked yourselves...The answer is "No". Women dont find it exciting when you look at their body, open your hoodie and say "ahhhh.... I'll buy it at a high price!"
Scuba Steve "NOT ENOUGH CASH, STRANGER!"
It does seem like Ashley uses kind of looks away from the Merchant when you are interacting with him.
lol I would be stoked to see the merchant in resident evil 7 :p
+Chris Buns (CaveGamer64) No. Fuck the merchant. Makes no sense canonically, and being able to buy things like healing spray, rocket launchers, and full magazines take away from the survival aspect.
Scar Awakens
I can't tell if you're serious.
+Chris Buns (CaveGamer64)
I love Merchant LOL
Nah, no need to drop an awsome character like The Merchant. Capcom just need to make sure that everything The Merchant sells is expensive enough to not hurting the Survival play (if you catch my drift?).
Example, Instead of being able to buy a machine gun and a rocket launcher at once, you should be stuck thinking:
Hhmm, should I buy a little more ammo for my gun? Or should I buy herbs? Hhmm choices.
Balancing the Barting between the Player and The Merchant, makes RE7 more strategic and intresting, but Capcom need to balance this right.
MrNinjafreak
I'd prefer no buying anything.
"You've got to have guts to buy that weapon."
*Buys weapon*
"Hehehe THANK YOU!"
stranja stranja now that's a theory
Raja Fahad stranger not stranja
The merchant is a manifestation of Leon’s imagination. Ashley never mentions him when Leon does business with him. This means Leon did it all on his own. Imagining this mysterious person was just a means to give self confidence to an agent who is way in over his head.
The real merchant was all the friends we made along the way. Clearly.
he's like the United States 😂 selling weapons for the both sides
True except the merchant doesn't act as the good guy he openly sells it.
Also the Australian accent.
so close
No that'd be the CIA
haha, victor that was funny but fuck you though.
the Merchant is just your friendly neighborhood Spiderman 😉
shang tsung A.K.A soulja boy So we've been shooting spiderman in the face the whole time?
lol exactly 😂
***** r u serious I had no idea
shang tsung A.K.A soulja boy At first I read that as Colonel Mustang
"Stranger Stranger, Now that's a weapon!"
I think he's just one guy selling guns.
My favorite character in the game! Always loved the accent and mystique. And he sold guns.
The merchant is Scorpion....what are u buying? come here!!
The merchant is just Wilford Brimley, early Diabeetus stages.
4 is one of my fav games ever. The upgrades and re run through make it replay worthy
Just as a side note, the Merchant WILL NOT come back on Professional difficulty.
+Muhammad Umer hi
+Vulgun hi
The merchant is a meme account admin
K
fuckoff
danteisbrutal off your self
is yall ready for RE4 HD on X1/PS4
what?

6 THEN 5 THEN 4 AT THE END OF THE YEAR. RESEARCH. WONT. KILL. YOU.
+John Sanford kiss my black arse.
I already beat it on gamecube, pc, and now im ready to beat it for my 5th time on ps4 lol
Legend part 2. The MERCHANT lives long after the resident evil biohazard incidents. Now well into the future. The MERCHANT still sells weapons to the Guardians in Destiny.
He’s xur
in destiny he is an agent of the nine
About time someone got this.
Glad to see you're not doing just Undertale videos. (even though I love them). I feel like these videos could become your nichè. Keep it up, man.
+Generic Weeaboo - Thanks! The idea is to keep a balance on the channel. I have a few more Undertale videos I want to do, but I think it is important to keep other content coming out since I don't want to be an Undertale-specific channel. I have a lot of other ideas I still need to put into video form, so stay tuned!
Did anybody else give this guy a name? He's your best friend in this game so you gotta call him something. I named him Benjamin :)
I love you, Benjamin
Joker im calling him ”ultrasuperhelpfulmanwhosellsyouweapons”
he's the one who put those ammo at random places lol
I named him Sam
@@eiarsan Excellent marketing skills by Benjamin.
Don't desecrate his real name. His only name. The Merchant.
I accidentally killed him on my first encounter with him, turned the corner and had a knee jerk reaction.
"Why're ya dying?"
Merchant was one of my favorites and I too was always curious about him
