What I find fascinating about this episode is that we finally see how everyone outside of "main characters" really thinks about The Clone Wars. Even someone as far up and as informed as Rex doesn't know the whole story. He didn't tell the very shrewd Super Tactical Droid who figured out something funny was going on but didn't figure out everything. If he had he would have realized that there was no need to fight people who were technically on the same side. Palpatine does know the whole story of The Clone Wars. Vader might as well. Kenobi, Yoda, and maybe Ahsoka and Maul know the whole story but beyond that it seems like no one gets what the Clone Wars were really all about. But regular people like Zeb and Ezra? They just know that one day the war between the CIS and Republic...just stopped. In as strange and as vague a fashion as it started.
@@higztv1166 But even then they wouldn't get the whole story. If they did, then they are either in a tight circle group with the Emperor or they were executed.
In a way, it was kinda sad. Since Palpatine controlled both situations, both clones and droids had to fight one another because of the government's orders. Both of their leaders betrayed both of the groups.
I feel so bad for Battle Droids. They're actually such nice droids (like the one that apologized to Zeb) they were just programmed to fight an unjust cause.
Actually, part of the point of the story is that they were programmed to fight a JUST cause. The Republic was corrupt to the core, which is why Palpatine was able to manipulate it and overthrow it. The problem was he had planned ahead and the CIS leadership was largely infiltrated by his pawns, including Dooku as one of the primary leaders. He deliberately sabotaged the war effort of the CIS and ensured the Republic would wipe them out, getting rid of any potential troublemakers (as well as a large source of opposition to the eventual Empire) in advance of taking over. Then he used the clones to wipe out the Jedi and created the Empire using that "crisis" as an excuse and retired the clones since he didn't need them any more and their loyalty had been to the Republic.
'both weak enough, then the empire took over' think your history might be a bit off there Ezra, the clones were plenty strong because if they weren't the empire wouldn't have even been established
Bigglesworthicus In a way he's not wrong. I mean the war changed everyone's views about aliens and Jedi etc, to the point where Palpatine could easily come in and "save" everyone. So in a way, the wars had weakened everything and everyone.
I know I'm late but he's also talking about how the clones were forced to kill their Jedi companions and since they fulfilled their true purpose, they were deemed obselete and were replaced by Stormtroopers. So the clones didn't win either.
Ezra was referring to Rex, who was committed to the Republic and removed his inhibitor chip so as to not be effected by Order 66. The Republic was institutionally weakened by the Clone Wars, so he's not wrong... from a certain point of view.
Bigglesworthicus yes, but the clones eventually did get weaker over the course of their service to the republic/ empire due to their accelerated aging. THAT led to naturally-born stormtroopers taking over (the empire in this case, since most clones are considered Republic soldiers)
Also Palpatine was playing both sides from the beginning. His apprentice Dooku was essentially commanding the opposing separatist war effort, so they were never even supposed to win.
Something I just realized, is that most Seperatist droid's prime directive was, word for word "liberate planets from the tyranny of the Republic", and all it would take to make them question their programming, thus stalling them, would be to have them define the technical term of tyranny and have them compare it to the current situation (take Christophsis or Ryloth for example), where more often than not, the Seperatists were utilizing tyrannical tactics.
Most of the separatist worlds had very legitimate grievances with the Republic, the mere action of going to war to reclaim secessionist worlds is tyrannical for a republic, and the droids would thus easily reconcile the means with the ends.
@@stephenbyrne2170the flaw with the separatists was that they all wanted independance from the Republic but for different reasons Some wantes to profit from a galaxy without a central government to do whatever they wanted, but others simply wanted to rule themselves without having to rely on a negligent and corrupt Republic that took everything in exchange of nothing Remember Palpatine didnt make the Republic corrupt, it was already stagnant and inefficient lomg before he became Chancellor
I always love this quote: the enemy of my enemy is my friend Those episodes are awesome. In the Clone Wars tv show, Dooku and the Jedi had to temporarily align against the pirates. In this episode, clones and droids are against the empire. It definitely mixes things up. Asajj Ventress and Obiwan against Maul and Savage. Ahsoka temporarily teamed up with Maul in both Rebels and Clone Wars (Clone wars was when clones turned against them and they had to unite). In rebels, Ahsoka was aligned with Maul against the sith inquistors
It was a stupid decision to not have his squad join the rebels. Would have been cool to have a Droid squad against the empire in the briefing room with all the other rebels.
It's agitating that whatever side won the war, Palpatine wins. If Separatists defeated the Republic, Palpatine would still win and change into Darth Sidious forever (since the Republic would've died lol) Either way, the republic dies and is used by Sidious
I think Dave Filoni said something along the lines of Kalani joining the Hutts for missions and then joining the Rebels after the destruction of the first Death Star
General Kalani: This is that first I've seen a Star Destroyer 1:01 The Separatist droids lost leaders and their planets to the Empire I think that robot knows the Republic became the Empire.
If you think about it, the Rebels and Separatists aren't too different from each other: -Both seceded from the ruling government, due to them being disillusioned about the way they were being treated by it -Both declare themselves as an independent group (Confederacy of Independent Systems, Alliance of Free Planets) -Both plan to take down the government -Both use more curve-shaped ships against the triangular Star Destroyers of the galactic government
Palpatine created the empire as soon as the clone war ended. The empire became the dominating power over the galaxy after the war. So yes, the empire won.
Ezra was right. Neither the Republic or the Separatists won the Clone Wars. The Empire won because it destroyed the Republic from the inside, thanks to Palpatine. I'd be happy if General Kalani and his droid army joined the Rebellion.
In korea,we call this situation as '어부지리'. It means 'The fisherman got a whole benefits'. And its also used as a political word. I think it is a right term for The Empire took over both Republic and Seperatist with ease.
Freedom from tyranny? No way. I grew up with most of the Clone Wars seasons, I know firsthand what the Separatist member races were like. They weren't revolutionaries. They wanted absolute power.
In a way Ezra is not wrong. Both the clones and droids were weak enough because almost all the clones were too weak to fight off the inhibitor chips and they were lost to the empire after executing almost all Jedi. Almost all the droids except for Kalani’s army were too weak to resist the shutdown order after Order 66 was executed. Both of them were no use for the Empire and the clones were replaced by human Stormtroopers and the battle droids were replaced by imperial droids! None of them won the clone wars because RIGHT when Grievous died, Anakin betrayed the Jedi Order (causing the deaths of Kit Fisto, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Mace Windu) and Sidious executed the order. Fives tried to warn everyone but no one listened!!!
Where some see complications others try to see a simple version. Also when Ezra said when both armies were weak enough: stating that the Jedi were powerful warriors, clones were physical and mentally trained, and Droids had programming. But both droids and clones were expensive to make, why do you think the republic and sepertist were almost went to bankruptcy?
It wouldn't have worked during the actual clone wars, since during the actual Clone Wars there was no Empire and Ezra would have been on the side of the Republic.
Its a good question. Why if no of you won, who did? The same if you ask in history the rest of an byzantine-roman and sassanide-persian forces. They fight so long eachother that a 3 faction destroy them as they were weak. In star wars its the empire, in our history the islamic arabs.
