The reason you need a super precise angle (the one where only 16 angles work) is because the gap that you're trying to fit through (creating by developer oversight when they meant to have no gap at all) is a single pixel wide, so you have to make it so that on one frame you're on one side of that gap, the next frame you're on the other side, and that the path between those two points goes directly through that single pixel gap as to not collide with any other collision.
It's actually worse than that. In 3D video games, distances are measured in units, which are floating point values (AKA decimal numbers). Because computers cannot represent decimals with infinite precision, we accept that there is a _very_ tiny amount of error between the intended value and the range of values a computer can actually represent. For all intents and purposes, these two walls are pieces of geometry that near-perfectly connect together, but for whatever reason, they are two separate objects, and thus the floating point error means that the collision is just barely out of line. The smallness of this gap is unreal. The gap has to be nearly the size of the floating point error value, or somewhere in the range of 1.0 x 10^-7 units. That is sub-pixel precision, in a way that is extremely difficult to fully quantify. From some basic research, each gridsquare in the Windwaker map is 1000x1000 units, which means the distance Link has to cover is 10 billionth the size of a grid square. In the context of Link's world, he is having to fit into a gap smaller than the width of the real-life transistor in the CPU that Link exists on. It's honestly insane this glitch is possible without TAS.

The games I played as a baby are really reducing grown men to quivering messes, who are put into an existential crisis that forces them to grapple with complex emotions for the first time in their lives.
A long long time ago, I had a version of the Legend of Zelda Anniversary collection for the Nintendo GameCube. It had all the mainline games up to Majora's Mask, and a 20-minute limited demo of Wind Waker. You could start at three points: The Forsaken Fortress, Windfall Island, and Dragon Roost Cavern. The first time I played this game, I started on Windfall. I got in my boat, decided to aim toward that strange arrow on the back of my trusty vessel....and mashed every button on the controller. The sail was not equipped automatically, and I was a dumb kid who didnt know what a Pause menu was, so when I find you can make the ship go forward holding R, I thought that was the only way to go. The whole first 20 minutes of my Wind Waker experience was spent slowly trudging my way across the ocean. I didn't even reach Paw Print Isle before my time was up and it booted me back to the game select screen. No, I wasn't going in a straight line. I went to play Majora's Mask instead. I fared a lot better there.

Im not that far into the video yet but its super fun to see someone using speed running glitches even though youre not a speedrunner. I like that you explain it so I can actually understand it haha. Great video!
Press A: can you beat the game without wind? Me, having watched speedruns of this game for over ten years: yes. With so much less than wind too, actually
1:04 just started watching so I’m not sure if this is gonna be mentioned anywhere, but, this is actually why Windwaker Link is my favourite Link from the entire LoZ Series. He ISN’T the Hero of Legend, he’s just a kid who REALLY wants to save his sister. He’s literally just some kid with a boat and he STILL fights against the odds just because he loves his sister that much. I love that ❤
Ganondorf’s final words (“The wind… it is blowing…”) go from a sardonic lament at his own inability to change fate to a curse upon this challenge run, since Link uses the wind to sail away from Outset in the post credits scene.
It's funny how many challenge videos almost instantly get an insanely humanly-difficult roadblock/inevitable stop that prevents a pure run. I'm very happy that the common cencensus is "I know, but... just ignore that bit." cause we still get an abundance of interesting tricks after.
I didn't know you were supposed to use the deku leaf on the moth lmfao i just always jump attacked it. Also how do you only have 50k subs i feel like ur videos are always popping up on my feed and theyre pretty high quality. Keep it up man!
Found this channel pretty recently from all the pikmin stuff, glad I checked out this video too. I resonate so much with the real talk at 40:39, this applies any time you want something bad enough. Any time you think you can't do something, first try 1,000 times and you'll find the truth.
You know, when I saw the title, I assumed you meant you were never going to use the Wind's Requiem to mess with the wind direction, or Ballad of the Gales to warp. Boy was I wrong.
When I first played Wind Waker, I didn't like the art style very much, but over the years it really grew on me and while I no longer have a functional GameCube (the GameCube works, the controllers all simultaneously died, or the controller port did), Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are therapy games for me that I go back to and 100% just to enjoy everything again.
When I first played Wind Waker as a kid I didn’t know how to use the sail so I actually sailed from island to island without it and it was absolutely painful.
Fun fact: when you go to Forest Haven first thing straight from Outset Island before the Dragon Roost Island, you will be talking to an air pretending to be King of Red Lions 😂
The crazy thing about doing a manual superswim without pause buffering is that not only do you have to be fast enough to change direction at 30fps, *you can’t go over.* You have to do it at a near-perfect 30fps. If you do it too fast, you may end up getting polled after changing direction twice instead of once, and then your speed gets capped and you lose the superswim. The amount of control you need to have to maintain a consistent 30fps input is absolutely crazy.

Yes, actually, because the Wind Waker _is_ just a normal guy. He's not possessed of the Spirit of the Hero. He doesn't reincarnate like the heros of the child and doomed timeline.
In a way, that makes WW Link the most badass of them all. Even Batman had the advantage of shittons of money to fund his gear.
Man, I love Wind Waker and I adore silly challenges, this was just heavenly! Nice job on the speedrunning tricks, too, you had those down super well there! The item sliding was looking absolutely masterful by the end there.
AND YOU HAVE PIKMIN VIDEOS TOO?!? Thank goodness RUclips decided I needed to see this Wind Waker video!
Dude where's Makar, that got me lmao xD
55:30 Your Sanity probally need it tho 😂😂😂👌
This whole thing was just crazy, and it's amazing for it. I've seen several of your videos, too! Why haven't I just subscribed already?!
"Failing is easy, but you know what's not? F*ckin ledge clipping".
The games I played as a baby are really reducing grown men to quivering messes, who are put into an existential crisis that forces them to grapple with complex emotions for the first time in their lives.
That was quite entertaining. Thanks for all the effort.
You are filled with DETERMINATION
Now try Twilight Princess without ever touching the Twilight
Breathe of the Wild without breathing.
@@xdearlifex Oracle of Ages without aging
Ocarina of Time without the time
The Adventure of Link without the Adventure.
A Link to the Past without Link
Shout out to the speedrunners who were nice enough to answer your questions.
Next we get Majoras Mask without masks.
MandatoryPixel did it
Floridian during 2020 run
That is actually not that hard if you can do ACE
Actually criminal this video is not more popular. This was an amazing video !
40:47 my guy. I know its a week old. But the gods of Olympus must have been watching over me. I needed to hear that message. Take my sub. And thank you
For the run and the puns have a sub. You've earned it!
I got a great chuckle at the joke @50:55 . I was not expecting that punchline XD
40:42 YEAH!!!!! MOTIVATIONAL SPEECH!!!! 41:30 Oh. I burst out laughing at that 🤣
Playing Undertale music while explaining barrier skip was so perfect
1:04 just started watching so I’m not sure if this is gonna be mentioned anywhere, but, this is actually why Windwaker Link is my favourite Link from the entire LoZ Series.
He ISN’T the Hero of Legend, he’s just a kid who REALLY wants to save his sister. He’s literally just some kid with a boat and he STILL fights against the odds just because he loves his sister that much.
I love that ❤
>oh, is it time for super swim already?
>"manual super swim"
my man, who hurt you
I hate the fact that I laughed at your 'Dude, Where's Makar?' joke.
50:53
That's a good one. That's a DAMN good one son!
Breaking news: Local islander refuses to use his sail to travel the world.
This just in, casual comes up with difficult challenge. Must complete all the current speedrun strats to finish. What a mad lad!
I didn't expect a challenge run video to be inspirational.
I demand more zelda related challenges!! Haha good video.
Ganondorf’s final words (“The wind… it is blowing…”) go from a sardonic lament at his own inability to change fate to a curse upon this challenge run, since Link uses the wind to sail away from Outset in the post credits scene.
This might be my favorite of your videos
Be sure to take care of yourself. I really enjoyed the video as well.
"Now, we all know the hero of winds can save the world, but what about a normal boy?" Proceeds to break the fabric of reality at every oppurtunity
It's funny how many challenge videos almost instantly get an insanely humanly-difficult roadblock/inevitable stop that prevents a pure run. I'm very happy that the common cencensus is "I know, but... just ignore that bit." cause we still get an abundance of interesting tricks after.
Okay bro you didn't need to get so motivational all of a sudden, I'm here for it but damn.
I didn't know you were supposed to use the deku leaf on the moth lmfao i just always jump attacked it. Also how do you only have 50k subs i feel like ur videos are always popping up on my feed and theyre pretty high quality. Keep it up man!
8:00 bro needs to shoutout Linkus for an explanation
Sidling behind the stone at 54 minutes: what is this, A Link Between Worlds?
Found this channel pretty recently from all the pikmin stuff, glad I checked out this video too. I resonate so much with the real talk at 40:39, this applies any time you want something bad enough. Any time you think you can't do something, first try 1,000 times and you'll find the truth.
No way you just beat The Legend of Zelda: The ____ Waker
bro the part where you give the hype boost and hit that loading skip made my day, I used to feel like that playing dark souls. Good work lololol
44:31
"I sailed"
Me: "You Failed"
So basically super-swimming is Zelda's answer to the BLJ from Super Mario 64.
I wasn't expecting that motivational speech but thank you. I needed that. :)
That Undertale music literally fits everywhere, as does the Super Mario Odyssey music right after
You know, when I saw the title, I assumed you meant you were never going to use the Wind's Requiem to mess with the wind direction, or Ballad of the Gales to warp. Boy was I wrong.
50:50 Press A! risked softlocking himself for one joke, and it was worth it.
So just a Speedrun? Lmao good job with the skips and the makar joke i can't believe i laughed at that
When I first played Wind Waker, I didn't like the art style very much, but over the years it really grew on me and while I no longer have a functional GameCube (the GameCube works, the controllers all simultaneously died, or the controller port did), Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are therapy games for me that I go back to and 100% just to enjoy everything again.
Pressing R in the boat gives King of Red Lions compliments and his rudder wags.
Speed bb.
When I first played Wind Waker as a kid I didn’t know how to use the sail so I actually sailed from island to island without it and it was absolutely painful.
this has gotta be one pf my top 4 videos of all time
Fun fact: when you go to Forest Haven first thing straight from Outset Island before the Dragon Roost Island, you will be talking to an air pretending to be King of Red Lions 😂
This was really awesome and impressive. Good job Mr. A
The crazy thing about doing a manual superswim without pause buffering is that not only do you have to be fast enough to change direction at 30fps, *you can’t go over.* You have to do it at a near-perfect 30fps. If you do it too fast, you may end up getting polled after changing direction twice instead of once, and then your speed gets capped and you lose the superswim. The amount of control you need to have to maintain a consistent 30fps input is absolutely crazy.
