Ya’ll are awesome! I also love the three of you interacting. It is such a kind, loving, relationship that y’all share! When I was young and had small children I was also going to university and had a part time job. My husband was working long hours 6 days a week. Reading (for fun) and making bobbin lace was my outlet. I also made my own clothes and those of my children during this time in my life. Even though I was very busy and spent many late nights sewing and making lace at the kitchen table and studying, these things “saved” me!
Definitely music! Television is difficult because I always want to look look at the screen. I can only do one thing at a time! Thank you for spending your time with us. 💕
I have lived in so many places with so many different areas. I started sewing regularly when I was 20, although as a preteen/teen had lots of projects I accomplished. I always sewed on my kitchen table…mess and all. When I was older, I had a space in my master bedroom where I was able to assemble a cabinet for storage and my grandmothers inherited cabinet with my machine (at that point it was my FIRST designated sewing space at the age of 40!) I later began a new life in a southern state, where I was able to have a whole room in my house for my projects. I was so used to sewing on my kitchen table, I didn’t feel comfortable in my “sewing room”!! Crazy!!?? Now I have transitioned into a small, 365 sq ft RV that I have remodeled and rearranged…creating a dedicated sewing space in the space that used to be my dining area, separated by ikea cube storage wall. I LOVE this tiny space (4x6) with everything I need, close to my living space/tv/kitchen. It gives me joy to sew and create in my tiny space (15 quilts finished in 2021 & I’m on my 9th since January!) when I’m need more space for layout or trimming or just to stretch out a bit, I go to a semi-local (24 miles away) to enjoy the ability to spread out. I’ve free motion quilted 5-6 of these projects on my big Pfaff hobby 1200. I sew and piece on that same machine. It’s been a constant flux of movement in my quilting life!! ❤️❤️❤️
I was looking at Summer Shores thinking how nice a quilt it is and it looks familiar. Then it dawned on me. It is the quilt on my bed right now. Love the pattern.
I am in my 80’s and am experiencing what I call a “burn out”. Have either of you ever felt like that. I have projects in progress that I want to complete but keep putting off working on them. Any excuse is good at times. When I get into my sewing I need to clean it up. When that’s finished I’m out of the mood. What helps you during these periods. I enjoy the banter between the 3 of you it’s so infectious. Keep up what you’re doing it’s working!
In Central Illinois, the earlier high school start times supported school sports and music teams so they arrived home before and not after dinner times - and also, because the older children were home to get younger siblings off of the bus/babysitting. This made great sense even though it isn't a good fit for a teens need to sleep!
That was so fun again! I have a funny storage story about a friend that I think y'all will get a kick out of! Her & her husband (at the time) had a storage building out back-I think it had heat & air-that she had her sewing things in. He'd put a fridge or a stand up freezer (I don't remember which) out there & when it no longer worked, she wanted him to get it out. Well, it didn't happen, so I told her one day-why don't you store your fabric in there 🤣 Turns out bolts could fit laying down in there on the shelves! haha We teased "well, your fabric won't spoil that way!" 🤣
I love all the topics today. I don't sew enough for it to be muscle memory so I do need to concentrate. I can watch a show or movie I have seen before. I think I am on the third round of the The Gilmore Girls 😀
I do not sit a lot to watch you tube or movies or just browsing the internet but I do take the time to watch your podcast. I enjoy your topics, your family dynamics, and your creative energies!
Recently re-did a very packed, cluttered sewing room, spare bedroom. Used pieces of furniture I had and added a couple more. Painted the walls a cheerful light blue, used lots of white. I love it. My husband comes to the door and tells me how amazing it looks. Don’t think he’d thought I could pull it off. He put in hardwood floors so all the threads that were stuck to the old carpet now stick to my socks. Oops didn’t think that thru, lol. Followed Sherri’s advice and didn’t buy project containers until everything was sorted. Lots donated, given away and trashed. Best thing I ever did. Now I have a place I love coming to plus I know what I have. Great podcast you three. Thank you for all you give!
That's where we had our wedding in Dana Point (Harbor). Very nice! I hope you keep your vanity table Chelsi! That's awesome you still have it. Don't part with it. My sewing room was our office. Not anymore. It is small but it works for me. I do feel that I need to do something with my closet. More racks and shelving. hmm! Honey! ;-)
Could you share what stores carry the Montana’s heart T-shirts. I know a person who could use some of these encouragements. Great job on the podcast, thanks for sharing your joys and your struggles. I also like the positive atmosphere. Billy should do a quilt for his dog, he may stay more motivated!
Oh my the quilt on the wall is so beautiful, so full of life and color! Reminds me of a summer day. I would love some suggestions from you both. The only quilting "magazine" I get is Block from Misouri Star Quilt. I would like to subscribe to maybe 2 more, any suggestions? I would like patterns, ideas, designs. Not even sure what else to expect. Maybe when you loan a quilt out you should register it in the back of your planner so you don't loose track of any? Like a library book. Check in, Check out.
Hi, I hope you had a fun day. I just got to sit and get my hand quilting so I can watch your video/podcast! I hope you have a delightful week ahead! Thank you for sharing this video.
What podcast service does Sherri listen to and that we can find the podcasts to listen to as well. EX: “Focus OnThis”. I have to have something going on in my sewing room. I don’t necessarily ‘“listen’ to it all the time…I just like knowing I have company in my sewing room. If I listen it’s usually a sewing video like Fat Quarter Shop on Friday mornings. They’re inspiring for me to get things done.
What A terrific show. The organization ideas are wonderful. I always feel like my space needs organizing. You two make the day happier. Thank you ladies. 🥰🥰
Hi from NZ, watching replay. Great topic as always. For those folk who cannot have a studio / sewing room, Karen Brown at Just Get it Done Quilts has a brilliant video on small sewing spaces which may help.
I love you three together. Billy quilting is amazing. Love your fabrics, I have a special chest full, because I can’t stop myself from buying your new fabrics. I also have several patterns from your shops and our local quilt shop, where I worked until the last day of March. You made it so I have way too much to do, thank goodness for retirement 🥳🥳🥳
Another question is why did you start quilting? For me I was home with my small children and I was out in the country and needed a creative outlet. I originally started by making shorts and clothes for the kid. Later a friend wanted to show me how to hand quilt.
Love listening to you all! Chelsi: I took your potato masher...I still have it. Sherri: oh my goodness. 🤣😂 You always bring smiles & laughter. I've been sewing since a young child; don't rly even remember WHEN I started lol. I've morphed from dining-room set-up, then a small table in a corner, to a whole bedroom takeover now (hello empty nest 😉). Love all the things you talk about; not just quilting. 💕
OMG! The memories! I started sewing when my first born was 2. She slept, I sewed in the dining room! All wood floors in huge apartment in Chicago! My downstairs neighbor ran into me, a asked, "do you have to sew every night?". I was young a so embarrassed! Never quit sewing. Now have a separate bldg, as library a sewing rm. Bathroom a mini- kitchen. Love your podcasts, thank you!
We don’t have room for a sewing space in our house, so I’ve made my sewing space in a corner of the shed behind my husbands motorbike. I freeze in winter, and boil in summer, and have to deal with some big spiders from time to time, but it’s still my happy place.
When visiting my daughter in November 2017 I popped into The Christmas Goose and saw your quilts on display. In fact seeing them in person inspired me to purchase the Weekender pattern. My sewing space is the size of half of an ironing board so I have learned to do one task at a time. Ironing, cutting, sewing blocks. I also try and go to a local quilt shop a few times a month for sit-n-sew to sew blocks together. I like silence while cutting and sewing. So funny about “borrowing” stuff.
I listen to you guys alot while sewing and I listen to music most of the the time sewing and I sing along and when I get up to iron I dance around lol I'm a morning person I get up by 3:30 am but I'm in bed by 8:30pm or latest by 9!
I have fond memories of playing under the quilt frames in the dining room while my mom and grandmother hand quilted many quilts. I still have the satin wedding quilt my grandmother made for us when we were married 58 years ago. Quilts are a treasure.
Chelsi cracked me up about the potato masher… i have a metal ice cream scoop that was my grandmas and its probably older then me. Well one day i was looking for it and my daughter said she had it… i said its mine and she returned it and i said when i die it will be in my will for her.. lol
I look forward to these pod casts. They are fun, informational, welcoming - meaning you welcome us all into your home, share your ideas, creativity, and so much more. Thank you.
Love today's topics. You got me thinking about what I do while I sew, and at first thought I was going to say 'silence' is my muse..... but I do have the tv on in the background a lot of the time. It's never something new though.... I'll run through seasons of shows I've already watched....things that I know what's going on so I don't have to look at it to know how they look, I just get to laugh while I sew and it put me in a great mood. :)
The ways we’ve had to modify our behavior during the pandemic have broken certain things in our lives, like the feedback loops that used to happen naturally and spontaneously. Chelsea, I’m so happy that you’re getting the well-deserved positivity reflected back to you for all the good you put out there. :)
I got my copy of Home for the Holidays a couple days ago and I love it!! So easy to follow with great graphics. I also love the chats and will try out the recipes. I started the Christmas Flowers table runner with spring fabrics yesterday and look forward to making the pillow and tree skirt! Love it all and so enjoy your videos. Thanks and God bless!
I so enjoyed to day. Can’t wait to see your sewing room. We are in the process of building a new house and I get one of the bedrooms as my sewing room so looking for ideas. When ya’ll talked about Chelsi taking things from your house it made me think of my daughter she does that with my stuff also. She is like oh mom won’t mind. 🥰
I so enjoy your podcasts, you all are so funny . While I’m sewing I listen to books on audio. I download them from our library. I sometimes have to stop to concentrate on what I’m doing as I have seen something wrong 🤣. I also listen to music but mostly books. Keep up with the podcast. Love them.
While watching the podcast, my eye kept wandering to the fabric on the shelf and how nicely it looked there. I always have my fabric in bins as I worry about fading and dust collecting on the fabric. This does not seem to be a concern for you. We are moving and I will have a new sewing space to organize and am thinking I should take the leap to start displaying and having my fabric out in the open.
I'm very blessed to have a very large sewing space. However sometimes frustrating because it's a formal living room that is between the backdoor (that we use as a primary) and the kitchen. So everyone talked to me and I'm easily distracted. I love you twos energy!
I agree with the emails you have received. I am inspired always by your organisation and talent. The three of you are are great team. I am always excited to hear the new podcast. Keep up the great work. Hugs from Scotland 💕
It's not stealing, it's long-term borrowing. It's been about 40 years that I've been "borrowing" my mom's dustpan, and around 15 years that my daughter has been "borrowing" my scrub bucket.
Hi , when making a string quilt why are the pieces sewn onto a foundation piece please? Why aren’t they just stitched together in the same formation? Thank you
Really enjoy watching your podcast. Thanks for sharing. I loved hearing what you do while you sew. I watch quilting RUclips videos first. Then once those are over I listen to a book. Sometimes like you both I need the quiet. I do watch shows too but only ones I’ve already watched, nothing new I have a question. What system do you use to keep track of projects you want to do, ones in progress, UFOs, deadlines, etc
Your podcasts are always so enjoyable to watch. Just wondering if you could share the name of the Quilt shop in Canada that has Sea Shore in stock. I would love to have a “go to” shop that I know always carries your fabric lines. It seems that so many of our shops (in Vancouver BC)have gone online only, not my favourite way to purchase fabric. But I do always love what you design and have never been disappointed when doing an online order.
Enjoyable video. Learned a lot. Question - how do you stay motivated, even when you do not feel like quilting or designing? Especially when you have a deadline. Thx
I have moved my sewing into a bedroom (3msquare), it’s great! I also love your earliest videos as I learnt so much from them. Q: how much do you collaborate together, just the fabric designs? Or patterns also.
I love your podcast! I have really enjoyed it since I’ve started listening. I am a relatively new quilter and I just purchased a fat quarter bundle of Emma (I am so in love with this line) and Chelsi’s pattern bundle (which was so hard to pick between hers and Sherri’s). Would I be able to make more than one quilt with a FQ bundle? If so, which ones would work with just the bundle? Thanks!
Oh, my gosh. I cracked up when Chelsea mentioned how she was so animated while sewing. I want an actual visual of that. Kimberly Jolly from FQS did a video of a day sewing…sped up. I would like to request one like this for Chelsea! 🤣. Love these podcasts, they start my week of on a fun note!
Love the Weekender and Summer Shores.
Ya’ll are awesome! I also love the three of you interacting. It is such a kind, loving, relationship that y’all share! My sewing space is in my bedroom. My sewing table is a fold down type, I have a tiny quilters iron and iron mat. This works for me
Audible books are great when quilting.
Totally agree with taking a walk, it’s a time to do my mental filing!

Love your quilt on the wall, and enjoy your chat. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Gosh, I so enjoy every single episode. Thank you so much for discussing such relevant topics and sharing your personal experiences!

I literally have a corner that doubles as my husband's office that's divided by a design wall
I loved this Episode 55 podcast!!! Oh my...it was so much fun, and a lot of information was shared. Love all three of you!!
Chelsi cracked me up about the potato masher… i have a metal ice cream scoop that was my grandmas and its probably older then me. Well one day i was looking for it and my daughter said she had it… i said its mine and she returned it and i said when i die it will be in my will for her.. lol
I cannot watch and sew, but music especially when doing FMQ on my long arm or tidying is needed, podcasts while cutting and ironing.
Can you please share how to determine the right side from the wrong side of batting. Thanks
How did Chelsea start designing and what inspires her designing? What software does she use?
I look forward to these pod casts. They are fun, informational, welcoming - meaning you welcome us all into your home, share your ideas, creativity, and so much more. Thank you.
Loved this topic! What about scheduling breaks? I need some stretches or movement because my shoulders get so sore.

I got my book and I’m so happy with it! Beautiful photos and definitely gets me in n the mood to quilt a Christmas project - in May!

Sherri and Chelsi thank you for your kind words! I love your designs so much. I would be honored to work with you guys on an episode!

I'm very blessed to have a very large sewing space. However sometimes frustrating because it's a formal living room that is between the backdoor (that we use as a primary) and the kitchen. So everyone talked to me and I'm easily distracted. I love you twos energy!

could you expand on ideal sewing space to include suggestions for work triangle and lighting
