While everyone is thinking about storage space, let me recommend a space rarely utilized. If you have standard height contemporary ceilings, (this is 8 feet high in the U.S.) and you have a sewing room or spare guest room (or any room), there is just over 12" of space above the door you enter thru. If you can run a 12" deep shelf from wall to wall above the door, it will give you enormous amounts of storage space. Placing it over the door you enter through looks less cluttery as you enter. Also, cardboard bankers boxes can be purchased rather inexpensively and will fit on those shelves. Covering the boxes with wallpaper or fabric will be more aesthetically pleasing and they can be neatly labeled. Gluing felt to the bottom will have them slide off the shelf more easily. Often a shelf can also be placed above a door in a hallway, and better quality storage boxes on those can look very nice.
I did that in my old flat, which had very high ceilings. It was amazing. Stored my towels and such in the bathroom that way as well. There was no room for a standing shelf, but plenty of room over the tub (which I rarely used anyway).
Just be careful about storing things above your head. About two weeks ago a large, heavy box tipped off upper shelves in our closet and crashed onto my unsuspecting head. Thankfully I didn't suffer a concussion, but the bruises still haven't all gone away. Make your shelves wide and sturdy.
With standard 1"x 12" pine or 3/4" thick MDF, supports every 36" or less should work just fine. As studs are typically 16" on center along a wall, and shelf supports should be screwed into the studs, this places a bracket support every 32"- which works great. When hanging shelving, I prefer to mount the front edge just a tiny bit higher than the back. Not enough to look off kilter, but just enough to keep anything from sliding off the front. Shelving very rarely should ever need to be anything more than 12" deep from front to back. Deeper shelving causes stuff to be stored behind other things and makes access very difficult and easy to misplace things.
I'm fairly happy with my sewing space. I doubled my boudoir for sewing and sleeping since its a temporary situation. I moved to Tennessee to be "live in child care" for a friend while the COVID Madness is in full force. She put me up in her unfurnished guest room and I went to town... I put up corner quarter round shelves in the corner for my 50s bright red Steam-O-Matic Iron and Point Presser on one, and favorite sewing books and records on the other. Underneath the shelves, I placed a Vintage Wardrobe Steamer Trunk for Fabric storage. I kept my bed as a twin size to save space, and purchased a very nice mattress for it. I placed a small cedar foot locker at the foot of the bed for crinoline/petticoat storage. Doubled my dresser as a cutting table, and placed two small 1/4 round shelves above the dresser to hold all the stuff that would normally litter the dresser top (that way the cutting table is alway available). My night stand is a Singer 40 cabinet with my Singer 500A in it, and I placed a Singer 42 cabinet with my Singer 201-2 between the door and the closet for a desk. I mounted a small shelf between the 42 cabinet and the wall to place my computer and store my keyboard when not in use. And because I require a radio, I put a 1942 Zenith Console Radio on the bare wall to keep the ambience. I keep my Kirby vacuum and Jiffy J3 Steamer in the closet with my sewing basket, thread box, and pattern box on the top shelf above them. I hung the Ironing Board on the back of the closet door, and all my cams and attachments fit in a MAC train case inside my steamer trunk. To finish the room I hung a couple lovely paintings, and a Kit-Cat Clock above the door. For storage, the steamer trunk was the single greatest find. Someone was moving and didn't want to tote it... so I picked it up for free. It's a vertical garment steamer trunk, so it has hangers and shoe box storage on one side and 7 full length drawers on the other side. You undo 2 latches and you can swing it open to get to your hung patterns, drafting tools, and sewing attachemments on one side; and storage for 10-15 bolts of fabric in the drawers on the right. It's mobile, free standing, aesthetically pleasing, and takes up very little room since it's designed to be vertical standing. When my sewing room is not in use, I have a lovely (and fully functional) 40s style boudoir, and to sew, I just have to move the keyboard off the Singer 42 cabinet (computer desk) and the windup travel alarm clock/picture frame off the Singer 40 cabinet (night stand), and I'm ready to sew.
Love your hair! Perfect timing! I am at the messy stage . Wish I could move everything out of the room and start from scratch. I love my small room and it has great light. Everything needs to stay in my room without any overflow. I have been sewing for many years so I have squired stot of stuff. I am cleaning and giving away slot of things . My husband refurbished two file cabinets for my patterns. I love them. He made me two bookcases for my books and fabric. I love the bones of my space . As I was cleaning and sorting idealized I had too much of some things and not enough of others. I found lots of treasures, I thought I lost. I is a journey . There are memories and even more will be made. Thanks for the help and knowing someone else is going through the same thing.
Hi Evelyn. I hope you are feeling well, and keeping you in my prayers. I am 70 and have learned so much from you. I have sewed for years, since high school but never did some of the things you said to do because I always thought WHY???? Like stay stitching, washing fabric and especially, finishing seams. I will do all these things including your golden rule! Thank you SO much for you happy smiling face, and all your knowledge. I love your videos. Love you! Take care....Jeanie xxoo
Oh Evelyn, I so need this! I bought too small of a house. It's only a 2 bedroom, just me but now with grandkids and bunk beds, where to sew? I remember growing up and my Grandmother's house. It was a 2 bedroom. When we went to visit, there was 7 of us. She professionally sewed. Here we are, all us kids on her bed buried in sewing items all over the room. Never blinked and had the best time ever. So, my closet is my painting and sewing storage set up with drawers from dressers I didn't want and made shelves out of and, well you can guess the rest. I also have an industrial sewing machine, that I have to keep in the garage because it is so heavy I can't lift the table. It is an old Consew, with the motor underneath. For some reason I love the old machines. I also am sewing on a Necchi that I just inherited. And in storage is an old treadle Singer. Sew vintage, use vintage machine. Now, can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. Thank you for sharing. I love your hair cut. I have to take the plunge and cut mine too.
Darling hair! Unfortunately I have no "sewing room" and no place for one. My sewing table is a mess, though, as is a dresser which is stuffed with years of notions and tools. I have a project to finish before beginning a cleanup, but I do have a new sewing machine, so this is a perfect time to reorganize my crazy mess. Thanks for the impetus!
Love your hairstyle! About 13 years ago, our local primary school built a whole new building for the junior section - 8 classrooms, 2 utility rooms, a meeting room and a huge open area in the middle for junior school assemblies. My younger daughter spent two years here, while my eldest "missed out". Once this was in operation, the old building was dismantled (all portable classrooms tacked together) and the furniture sold off to the public to reduce removal costs for the school. We (as parents) were very fortunate to obtain 3 long benches for only $10 each - 2 of which are set back-to-back in the middle of my sewing room like an island, so my sewing table is 90cm wide and 240cm long with access along each side - you simply can't get anything with those dimensions! The 3rd one is against the wall parallel to the others. We also got 2 old metal bookshelves ($5 each!) which we sat on top of the 3rd bench (the laminate top of this one was not aesthetically nice, but was structurally sound), with cardboard storage boxes as pull-out drawers (I pasted swatches of the fabrics on the outside instead of labels). The same year, I had to move out the spare bunk-beds from this room as a house further up our street was having a moving sale, so we walked home carrying 4 large bookcases (one at a time between us!) with adjustable shelves for a total of $120! One houses my notions in plastic ice-cream containers; another has all my patterns organised in pull out plastic baskets, another has sewing books, a spare machine, my iron and other tools, my radio, etc; (these 3 bookcases have a lot of stuff as about 2/3rds of it came from my mother-in-law after she died); the 4th one has other crafts and is set with a gap between the last two which houses my freestanding ironing board! I'm not too fussed with decor, so I don't mind the mustard coloured bench tops on the dark brown cabinets not matching the 4 tan coloured bookcases, or the 2 grey metal bookcases - I'm more into the utility of the furniture. You don't have to buy brand new if you don't have the budget for it, and furniture can be painted if you are working on a theme - so have a look at garage sales and op-shops and reuse/reduce/recycle! Much love.
I'm in the midst of setting up my very 1st sewing room! Found a gorgeous Ethan Allen Desk Armoire that was over $3k for $60!!! Then a foldable Cutting table for only $35...I've covered some foam board with fabric to lighten up the interior of the armoire sewing space...Next will be making an Idea Borard using the same technique for the wall. Found color coordinating bins & baskets at Dollar General for storage inside armoire as well. And finally, so far, found a beautiful white & chrome office chair for only $32...Being frugal, not cheap, brings joy to my heart! Especially when I can bring it all together to make a space I love and enjoy spending in.
Purging is hard!! I have moved 3 times in 4 yrs. Each time my sewing space got smaller. I put a lot of stuff up for sale and took the money to buy some organizational stuff. Now I have things I really need, not stuff I haven’t used in years. And I can find it all😁
I have a part of a room that also serves as a home office and crafting area, so it is a busy space. I've lined one wall with tall stainless steel wire shelving. This allows me lots of storage space for my sewing and for my home office. The high ceilings in that room are a bonus- we use plastic totes with lids to store fabric, batting, and yarn.
Although I don't have a tiny Welsh cottage, our house doesn't have a lot of available space. I'm considering getting a board that I can put on the dining table and store it when not in use (don't do a lot of dressmaking).
I was having this problem also, and I found a solution without having a huge cutting table. I bought an old folding sewing cutting cardboard thing at a yard sale, and it fits on my bed, so when I have to cut stuff out on the bed, I lay it out, place the fabric and pattern pieces, sit down in my rolly office chair and work away. After I'm done, I fold the cardboard and put it behind the door.
My organizing and storage is a work in progress. I just built a table that's 42" x 96" long and 40" high for cutting and putting things together on. And in one corner of it is where one of my machines is installed. There is a shelf under it that's 32" x 86" with exception of a cutout at the one end for my legs when using the machine that's mounted into it. My other machine has its own cabinet with 3 drawers in it. On each side of it is another set of drawers, one about 12" wide and the other is about 18" wide. Next summer I'll be bringing home another tall cabinet. It's actually an old kitchen cupboard that is portable. That will be the rest of my storage space.
Your hair looks fantastic! I have embraced my natural color and my natural straightness and I couldn't be happier. We all could use some organization advice. The one thing I don't ever consider is decorating my sewing room. I feel like my supplies all organized and well-kept are enough decoration for me.
Love the haircut! It’s adorable! I drew out my floor plan on graph paper and cut out shapes of my tables and chairs from graph paper as well so they would be as close to scale as possible. So I could rearrange things on paper to see if they would fit my space. Also, I’m the kind of person who likes to have my organizing system out of sight because I don’t like visual clutter. Some people like to see everything they have-not me. I don’t need to see it to know where it is bc I I keep like things together.
I'm already measuring up my son's room for when he leaves home for university. He's only 14 so at the moment I am making do a corner of my front room. And the dining room, and my bedroom..... Also sending you heaps of love ❤❤❤❤❤ hoping your treatment is effective and you aren't feeling too poorly xxx
The Kallax shelves from IKEA sand and all the various inserts you can get for them are amazing! I highly recommend them. So much storag, so versatile and so many different options.
This is actually excellently timed with me moving into a new house. It's not the prettiest but it's all ours. I'll be sharing the room with my vanity table and some clothes but it's plenty of space that I need to configure what the priorities are for this space and what I will be doing
I think the most important thing about a sewing space even though it may have to share purpose be able to leave everything you’re working on out without having to put it away and bring it all out again. I have a Harry Potter space, under the stairs, pipes and ducts. It can stay the same for days and not matter.
Amen! I agree. I have half of this done, but I can't seem to get the rest figured out. I have a couple of bad spots that don't function well, and I have a traveling nightmare pile that moves around the room, but never goes away. This is so well timed. I was hoping to get this done by the end of the year. YAY! Thank you.
This is timely. I have been wanting a place to keep my sewing machine available all the time in a tiny apartment, and managed to get a strong shelf inside my closet that is perfect. A real life changer, that keeps the mending pile down.
Love the new hair style! This video has great timing. I’ve been working on my room between projects. The big thing for me was labels. While I was digging around I found I had some things in two or more spots. Life is much easier when all the things are together in some sort of order.
Thank you for doing this series! We are in the process of moving yet again, and I've had to rethink and revamp my sewing space expectations a couple different times now. My biggest challenge is that we will be dividing our time between a 3-bedroom house where I will share space with a guest room, and a 1-bedroom vacation house where storage space is at a premium, and temporary. In other words, I have to figure out how to take my act on the road lol Your new haircut is adorable, and it suits you! Embrace it! I've learned that it's better to stop fighting with your hair and call a truce instead with a cut that's easy to style.
hey Evelyn and the subscribers! im a guy and here is how my sewing room works. its my closet as well. in the room i have my industrial dropfeed straight only machine, a 56"x33" cutting table (free table and like 80$ cutting mat ducttaped down, fits perfect), and another table all scooted together but with a couple inches between them for cords and fabric to advantagousy fall in between. there's canned goods under the cutting table and i have drawing tools for oak tag, fabric stored on shelving in there, drawers with noitions/webbing/etc. i dont have an overlocker but do have one of those mini walking foots that zig zags(9" harp not 7" woot) and i tuned it to feed pretty good. it can run very thin thread too. my binder folders will get attached soon once i get smaller head screws for it. putting the tables all bunched together allowed me to put in a standard/small room a lot of 'workspace'. its a guys sewing room and mainly when something needs thread it gets dispatched and life goes on. although my next project is more canopies for bicycle trailers. the first came out looking great with linseeded(and cured) canvas. oh and a ultralight backpack im slowly drafting and tweaking but itll probably get done cleverly with natural materials if not ideal performance synthetics. for curves i cut oak tag how i need and use that and may never buy big curves/french curves e, the 20u singer style machines i sometimes wish i settled for instead of my walking foot but after tuning it and learning how the feet work it isnt too bad and because despite being industrial, it can be slid out of the way it works really good in the room. (anyone looking for maintenece advice on miniwalkingfoots lemme kno)
Wow! my dear Evelyn the Barnett looks great. I use the spare bedroom as my sewing room so space is minimal, as I have a sofa bed and tumble dryer to work around. I have a messenger style bag I'm designing and the mock ups have become great for the haberdashery stock. If you have several of these bags then each bag can be used for a different product group, what's more useful is that if you need to go somewhere and need to take a certain type of haberdashery, say zips then just grab that bag and away you go knowing that you will almost certainly have all the zips you are likely to need.
Nice hair cut . Its November already ,I have been working since late October... Im trying to reorganize my bedroom and declutter to get me a sewing actually craft space ..Im almost done im in phase 2 according to ur steps and Im going to have a hair cut tomorrow too 😉 Thanks for sharing I really needed it right now ..Im glad Im not alone and there r still people like me reorganizing and planning their craft space
Evelyn, I love your new hairstyle!! It looks so cute on you! You are working with it really well. This series is coming at the right time for me. About a year ago I was able to take over our spare room as a sewing room. I’ve been struggling with ideas to store my patterns and my fabrics so I can’t wait to hear your ideas!! It’s so nice to be able to leave things out while your working on them, instead of picking them before your done because you are sharing space.
My sewing room is also th guest room but I don't focus on making it nice for guest. There is a twin bed and that is it. Once I get my sewing room fixed it will also be nice for guest. I also have no money for buying furniture so I work with what I have which is some nice things. I look forward to watching this series.
I love your haircut Evelyn! I have been planning my sewing/craft room for years but it has never come to fruition and all I have is a room full of boxes! I've come to the conclusion I will never do it unless I get all the stuff out of the room so I can furnish it with a cutting table and storage. So, in order to do this I will have to put all the stuff into storage while I sort the room then I can bring it all back bit by bit untlil it is done. I don't have the space for sorting it all here which is why it has just been left. Hunting through boxes to find something I know I have is frustrating and, often, I end up not making what I want as, when I have searched and found what I need for the project I have no energy for it any more!! It won't be done very oon though as I have other things requiring money before I can hire the storage space, purchase the table and storage and get the room ready. Excited for your next video as I am not good at organising!!
Love the new hair!! 👏 Gives me Ms Fisher vibes. Also love the video and can’t wait to see the others because I do love to see how people organise and decorate their sewing spaces.
I am here because I just took over a built in desk area that has been a catch all of kitchen gadgets and cleaning supplies since we moved in. It’s a small space but deceptively roomy. I just have to utilize it to the max
Totally agree. Some can and do create in disaster area. I wish I could. Not sure if it’s the quilting in me but I need to clean up area always. Love your video. Thank you
I purchase a lovely 1960's kitchen hutch, with original mint green and cream paint. My sewing room is my bedroom combined. I call it the tree house, as my house is on stilts and a big native tree grows outside. So I get to watch all the little Finches, Wrens, Currawongs, various honey eaters dance around the tree.
Love your hair! I am trying to make my sewing space more workable. It's almost there, but I still need to source some shelves to replace a small and shallow cup shelf on one wall. I collect vintage Wilhold plastic sewing organizer boxes to store notions in. Even though I have to stack them on shelves, they are labeled so I know exactly where to go to find what I need.
I revamped my sewing space last year. It was so much fun. In the coming months I hope to rearrange a few things to work more efficiently for me. Things being accessible and visible, but still out of site are key features for me. Labeling and sorting within drawers or doors was also important. I chose IKEA and the dollar store for much of my furniture and organizing.
Oh boy, do I need to organise etc. I have a combined office, craft and sewing room. It's an absolute mess and not easy to work in for anything. So, as I've just restarted my sewing journey (after a break of about 30 years) I'm going to take the time to re-start/organise this whole area. Great suggestions btw :)
Thank you so much for doing this series to set up/reorganize your sewing room. I was just setting up an old desk and cleaning up a room to set up my own sewing space instead of the dinning table. I sat down to check out some videos and here’s this one from you! Thank you! Perfect timing!
Thanks.Perfect timing for me. I just painted my sewing room walls and trim and am starting to decorate it. Taking a step back and analyzing and organizing will be great!
Loving the haircut, makes your eyes even more striking! Thanks for this series, I am sorting through my stashes and realizing I don’t have enough life left for all the projects I have planned lol…so I have started putting all projects into clear linen bags with the ideas, haberdashery and fabric. Then I have organized into seasons (Canadian) and that has really eased the project pile 🤓
Your hair is adorable! I’m also currently redoing my sewing area(s). I’m having to split it into two areas, one in the living room, one in my bedroom. I’m disabled and do a lot of hand sewing, so I need to be able to keep what I need close at hand in my bedroom. I’m also getting a new desk for the living room sewing area (two Ikea drawers and a table top), and that should have a whole lot more storage than my current setup. The planning has been really important for me, to know what to put in what area. Anything machine related is out in the living room, anything hand sewing is in my bedroom. But it’s also finding ways to store it all that won’t drive me crazy with mess. It’s been interesting, but I’ve finally figured it all out, I think. Also, sorting storage when you’re disabled is…fun. Because it needs to all be reachable from my bed without twisting or bending. I’m loving my moveable trolley and my bed desk! I also have to rely on other people to get things for me, so having labels on my boxes/drawers is very helpful, rather than just “that one there, down, to the right. No, the other right”. I also only have two fairly small spaces, so I’ve had to be very smart about using that space. I’m using wall space, but I have to be very careful about how given that I’m renting. So no permanent holes (no shelving or big pin boards, unfortunately). Only things that can use 3M hooks. Now just to get someone to put together my second Ikea drawer (have to wait for my care workers to come and do it), and then I can start organising. I’m looking forward to it. I’m someone who can’t deal with mess, and the state of my sewing area in the living room was such that I couldn’t work on any projects that needed to be done out there (so no drafting, cutting out, or machine sewing). Thankfully I had a few projects I could do from bed (I decided to learn embroidery and that’s been awesome, and I’ve also been making masks for friends and family). But I really need to get a move on with those bigger projects (stays for my daughter, a blouse and walking skirt for me), and to do that, I need a space that is clean and organised. So this series is perfect timing!
Evelyn you soooo suit your red top! I too have had to embrace my straight hair😜. I just watched phase 1 and had to come back and watch this one, I love organising vids, I’m moving house so as soon as I’m settled I’m going to actually put this into practice. Have a great day😊 nice that the weather is dry in Brissy today….
I am so excited 😊 I have been wanting to do my sewing room revamp for the past couple of months and now I feel confident because I have others doing it too and you have inspired me no end. Thank you Evelyn. I am eager to watch this series and get very productive ❤ 👵🏻
Do buy some flowers for your hairdresser. Your New hair stile makes you look younger and much more energetic. Very lovely. And by the way, this old woman from Denmark (Scandinavia) is VERY fond of your videos, so THANK YOU.
Excellent timing, as we recently renovated the workroom, and there's a corner for my stuff. Before planning, I intend to sort and at least partially organise. You didn't mention books and other printed resources. I'll have three shelves for those. I recommend repurposed glass jars for buttons and other small notions: good organisation and visibility, and keeps items from landfill. I keep my measuring/cutting pads on the clips of trouser hangers. The hangers will be placed on hooks on the wall... somewhere in the room (still need to figure that one out). Your new haircut really suits you. Very chic.
Love the hair- just darling and still within your vintage vibe!! Perfect timing for this series. I was laid off during covid, took early retirement, and have an empty bedroom to dedicated to a new sewing room creative space. So look forward to the next video. Thanks for your hard work. Maggie
Hi, Evelyn! I find myself having to pay much attention to storing machine thread these days, just when I thought that issue was not an issue. Thing is, I'm finding more and more of unopened, forgotten spools stashed away here and there that I bought over 20 years ago at Walmart for $0.25 each! (Am I describing that similar shopping bag that someone else too bought home from the store that vanished for years only to resurface by now with little memory of you ever buying it, lol?) I know, a throwback, right? I have tested some of the found spools and they are still good! I have thread racks with little available storage space but will surely need 2-3 more racks by the time I'm done... yep, that much thread found- TFS!
Reorganizing is always stressful for me. I have a relative that undoes my progress and tries to force it in a way that doesn’t work, complete with space stealing furniture and throwing away important WIP elements. The current set up has been driving me batty and destroying my muse for a long time. Hopefully this series can help me get something together that is functional till I can move out. I really miss working on projects and the thought of making my own clothes has been calling to me more than usual lately. Organizationally a big game changer for me was a pegboard. I am very out of sight out of mind and I can put my tools and even WIP reminders in sight. I still need to order some useful storage hooks tho. I need me some cups. Another thing I found handy was a magnetic bowl you can get at hardware stores. It can even help with finding dropped pins and transporting them when a pincushion isn’t available couldn’t be easier
Everyone organizes in different ways. Another example is the kitchen. You could take me and my two daughters (who are great cooks) and each of us would set up our kitchen differently. Do what works best for you.
You hair looks so good! I think it is so much easier to embrace the type of hair you have. Plus it is so flattering. My sewing room is packed and I am in the process of reorganizing it for the 100th time. I am looking through my fabrics and if I don’t love, love it, then I am either selling or donating it.
My sewing space could really use to be all on the same floor in my house... most storage and ironing are upstairs, the treadle machine's in the basement, the Evil 80s Singer is upstairs, the 70s Kenmore and the 1914 hand crank are in the living roomand my actual sewing is mostly done by hand, sitting on the living room floor, the top of the rabbit cage is my cutting table (cause if I do it on the floor, he "helps") and all my current projects are on the sofa behind me. Sharp stuff is on a backless chair the rabbit can't quite reach, although he has taken a nibble or three out of the binder I keep my patterns and ideas in (the binder keeps him off the sofa of current projects), and he's nipped a few patterns too... I'm upgrading the backless chair to one of those plastic chests of drawers so I can hide more stuff from my little thief and keep more notions and stuff on hand so I'm not running up and down the stairs so often...
Perfect timing! I just bought a chest of drawers to get my haberdashery and tools organized. Not having a sewing room, the chaos in a bedroom cupboard kept growing and growing, until I refused to open the door :-))
Great idea!!
Thanks for the tip about felt on the bottom of the boxes. That’s a great idea! 💗
Absolutely adorable haircut!
Really like your new "do"(hairstyle).
Thankyou!! 😀
That hairstyle looks great on you! I am in the process of doing exactly this with my space. Thanks for this series!
Wonderful!! It's going to be so much fun when we are all organised and ready for new creative projects!
Best hairstyle on you to date...awesome! You remind me of sassy Ms Fischer Murder Mysteries and will go well with your vintage wardrobe.
Your hair looks beautiful, I love it!
Absolutely agree--love your hair. I enjoy and appreciate your videos so much. A "can't miss" for me,
Just a start of a comment before I watch..... love your new hairdo.!!!! Good ideas for organizing.! Just what I need to do. Thank you.
Yes Hair!! Very flattering. OK, back to the video.🙂
Evelyn your hair cut really suits you. Also just love your dress especially those sleeves. Very beautiful. xxx
We all have different sewing spaces it can be a table or a giant room But a re organize will always make it a nice place for you to create in 😀😀
My sewing room is my lounge/kitchen and just a little cabinet 🤗
I sorted and organized First. Then I purged. Then I bought products to store what I was keeping. Saved me ALOT of 💰. Beautiful new haircut !
No.1 for me would be space to cut out fabric. My dream room has a huge central folding table i can work around. Not possible in a tiny Welsh cottage.
Although I don't have a tiny Welsh cottage, our house doesn't have a lot of available space. I'm considering getting a board that I can put on the dining table and store it when not in use (don't do a lot of dressmaking).
@@denisehill7769 I have the same issue. Good idea.
Im in the F1, so I cant watch the video right now but had to comment on how adorable your hairstyle is!! You look amazing!!
Absolutely wonderful hair style. You look terrific!!
You look fabulous. Love your haircut🙂
This came at the right time. Thank you
My organizing and storage is a work in progress.
You look so cute! That cut is perfect for you.
Your hair looks fantastic! I have embraced my natural color and my natural straightness and I couldn't be happier. We all could use some organization advice. The one thing I don't ever consider is decorating my sewing room. I feel like my supplies all organized and well-kept are enough decoration for me.
I love the haircut. I too have fine straight hair. I love sea salt spray for texture. This video is exactly what i need right now! Thank you!
Thankyou! Yes I was experimenting with seasalt spray, I liked it too!
Love your hair!! You always magically make videos just when I need them, thank you! ❤️
Great new hairstyle! I had a hard time embracing my natural wavy hair!🤣
Can we swap? 😅😅😅
@@Evelyn__Wood I wish...😂🤣
I'm already measuring up my son's room for when he leaves home for university. He's only 14 so at the moment I am making do a corner of my front room. And the dining room, and my bedroom.....
Also sending you heaps of love ❤❤❤❤❤ hoping your treatment is effective and you aren't feeling too poorly xxx
Thinking of you Evelyn & hoping things are going as smoothly as possible 🙏🙏🙏
New sewing space and new hair!! Exquisite!
I love your new hairstyle
The Kallax shelves from IKEA sand and all the various inserts you can get for them are amazing! I highly recommend them. So much storag, so versatile and so many different options.
Thank you so much ☺️ , you did save me 🙏 thanks
What perfect timing! I just moved to a new space and have a whole new sewing (and painting) room to get laid out and organized!
Perfect!! I bet you spend many creative hours in your new space!
I agree this makes it the most usable, even if it's tiny!
CUTE CUT!!!
Amen! I agree. I have half of this done, but I can't seem to get the rest figured out. I have a couple of bad spots that don't function well, and I have a traveling nightmare pile that moves around the room, but never goes away. This is so well timed. I was hoping to get this done by the end of the year. YAY! Thank you.
Wowza, your new look is great!
Your hair style is adorable.
YES!! I am totally sick of hunting for things too! What do you have left to do?
Thank you for doing this series! We are in the process of moving yet again, and I've had to rethink and revamp my sewing space expectations a couple different times now. My biggest challenge is that we will be dividing our time between a 3-bedroom house where I will share space with a guest room, and a 1-bedroom vacation house where storage space is at a premium, and temporary. In other words, I have to figure out how to take my act on the road lol
Your new haircut is adorable, and it suits you! Embrace it! I've learned that it's better to stop fighting with your hair and call a truce instead with a cut that's easy to style.
Another helpful video! And oh! Your hair looks absolutely fabulous !
hey Evelyn and the subscribers! im a guy and here is how my sewing room works. its my closet as well. in the room i have my industrial dropfeed straight only machine, a 56"x33" cutting table (free table and like 80$ cutting mat ducttaped down, fits perfect), and another table all scooted together but with a couple inches between them for cords and fabric to advantagousy fall in between.
there's canned goods under the cutting table and i have drawing tools for oak tag, fabric stored on shelving in there, drawers with noitions/webbing/etc.
i dont have an overlocker but do have one of those mini walking foots that zig zags(9" harp not 7" woot) and i tuned it to feed pretty good. it can run very thin thread too. my binder folders will get attached soon once i get smaller head screws for it.
putting the tables all bunched together allowed me to put in a standard/small room a lot of 'workspace'. its a guys sewing room and mainly when something needs thread it gets dispatched and life goes on. although my next project is more canopies for bicycle trailers. the first came out looking great with linseeded(and cured) canvas. oh and a ultralight backpack im slowly drafting and tweaking but itll probably get done cleverly with natural materials if not ideal performance synthetics. for curves i cut oak tag how i need and use that and may never buy big curves/french curves
e, the 20u singer style machines i sometimes wish i settled for instead of my walking foot but after tuning it and learning how the feet work it isnt too bad and because despite being industrial, it can be slid out of the way it works really good in the room. (anyone looking for maintenece advice on miniwalkingfoots lemme kno)
Beautiful haircut for a lovely lady it makes you glow even more! Thankyou for another useful video! Look forward to seeing the others!
Wow! my dear Evelyn the Barnett looks great.
Im trying to reorganize my bedroom and declutter to get me a sewing actually craft space ..Im almost done im in phase 2 according to ur steps and Im going to have a hair cut tomorrow too 😉
Thanks for sharing I really needed it right now ..Im glad Im not alone and there r still people like me reorganizing and planning their craft space
Love your hair!
Your videos are always so helpful and informative.
My sewing room is also th guest room but I don't focus on making it nice for guest. There is a twin bed and that is it. Once I get my sewing room fixed it will also be nice for guest. I also have no money for buying furniture so I work with what I have which is some nice things. I look forward to watching this series.
Moving sewing spaces now. This is such great timing for me!!
Yay!! I can't wait to see what you do with it!
#Sew-Organised!........You Can Definitely Count Me In & I'm looking forward to the next few Videos in this Series 🙂🙃
Love, love, love you hair!
Like your tutorial and really like your haircut looks great 👍
Love your new hair cut.
Great tips, cannot wait to see everyones makeovers in-the coming weeks,
Me too! 😃
LOVE the new 'do!!! Your best yet! Should go with your '20s wear fabulously!
Your space sounds like it's coming along! It's so satisfying to have an organized space right! 😀
Love the hairstyle, it has the Phryne Fisher vibe. Love it!
The hairstyle is adorable on you!
Much like everyone else, I love your new hair style! It looks so good on you!
Thankyou so much!
I finally have a whole room (well, it shares a room with other crafting and my art) but I definitely need better shelves...and drawer dividers
Your haircut is great. You look wonderful. This video is something I need and it is excellent! Can’t wait to begin. Thank you!
Thank you so much for doing this series to set up/reorganize your sewing room. I was just setting up an old desk and cleaning up a room to set up my own sewing space instead of the dinning table. I sat down to check out some videos and here’s this one from you! Thank you! Perfect timing!
I love it when this happens, perfect timing!! I'm excited for you new space! You'll be very inspired in there all set up how you like!
Love your video! They are helping me return to sewing after many years! I absolutely love your hair! It is so cute! 😍
That hairstyle is positively DARLING on you!
I am so excited 😊 I have been wanting to do my sewing room revamp for the past couple of months and now I feel confident because I have others doing it too and you have inspired me no end. Thank you Evelyn. I am eager to watch this series and get very productive ❤ 👵🏻
Love the haircut. Always look beautiful. Thank you for all the tips and tricks.
Maggie
the bob is cute on you , bet it's easy to maintain, good ideas
TYTYTY! So happy for this series!
Also, bet that hairdo feels good for summer, eh? So cute 😍!
I love planning phase. The hard part is finding the organizers I want on budget....
PS- smashing haircut!
Yes I know that feeling! Second hand was always by beer friend in the budget department 😀
I'm upgrading the backless chair to one of those plastic chests of drawers so I can hide more stuff from my little thief and keep more notions and stuff on hand so I'm not running up and down the stairs so often...
omg HOW DO U READ MY MIND ALL THE TIME it’s exactly what I needed I’ll watch the video later:o
Love your new hairstyle.
I like your new hair style! Looks great.
Thanks for the reorganization information. I really need to apply your tips to my sewing space.
Perfect timing! I just bought a chest of drawers to get my haberdashery and tools organized. Not having a sewing room, the chaos in a bedroom cupboard kept growing and growing, until I refused to open the door :-))
Your hair looks great! This sounds like a fun series. Thanks for sharing.
I’m finishing my sewing space right now. I can’t wait to see the rest of the series!!
Love your hair.
