Yeah, Harley Quinn is one of the most common cosplays I see at a con. I also have seen Mario, Luigi, Link, and Pikachu a lot... also Raven, Rainbow Dash, Elsa, and any Eeveelution (Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon being the most common).
At Glasgow Comic-Con last year it was like 70% Harley Quinns.

I can understand the crossover frustration, but what's wrong with gender-swapping? Sometimes your favorite character just isn't the same gender as you.

yah I agree... it makes sense to label the Harry/Hermione mixup as an issue of bad costuming rather than of gender swapping so I still find it bothersome that they yelled that out in frustration.
And that just fucking stupid.
As a female who often cosplays as male characters I find that when other people gender-swap they have a habit of changing the character drastically. Making their hair straight in instead of curly. Giving them an ultra sexual outfit or just altering messing with the character as a whole. Sometimes it's alright it's just usually they end up altering or changing a key part of that character. Personally I just copslay the male version get a chest binder and a wig because I find it more true to the character.
1:25 Whats funny is at the time this video came out 70% of cosplay was based on anime characters, not game ones. So the Castavenia Alucard shout out is funnier now that that game has its own anime.

It's funny because this is so true. Every con I go to has this to an extent and it gets annoying, but I also find it do creative and different when done well. I suppose it's a doubled edged sword. I've done both accurate cosplays and crossover type things like a human rainbow dash recently. The important thing is to have fun and make the best cosplay that you can : )

This was very hilarious and I loved the attitude of the panelists. :P What's odd, though, is that in my two years attending SDCC, I don't remember seeing crossover cosplays. Gender swapping is very common, though, and I've partaken in it many times. Even at anime conventions, I rarely ever see crossover cosplays. Yes, I've seen them, but they're few and far between. Now I kinda wanna see more so I can hear them describe how they came up with it. XD
Yeah, that stupid crossover shit is REALLY common at Washington state anime conventions. And the people who dress up as their stupid characters from their terrible fanfictions. That have ruined the conventions.
May I ask why/how they ruined the conventions? I personally don't see any harm in cosplaying as whatever you want. The only time I can see it being annoying is if the people wearing said cosplays acted like the ones portrayed in this skit. However, that kind of attitude is annoying regardless of the cosplay they wear. I've seen way too many uptight, egotistical and just plain rude cosplayers who are portraying only one character.
Honestly, if people wanna cosplay something from their fanfiction and they can pull it off with a decent attitude, then more power to them. Stifling creativity isn't productive, nor healthy for the mind. If they're not harming anyone or purposefully being obnoxious, then I can't see how a convention would be ruined by them. :/

Yes, I've seen horrible cosplays many times, but I never factor a person's weight into the equation. Nowadays, I'm rather mute to the issue. I love looking at cosplays and if I happen to see ones I don't like and/or don't understand, I move on. I attend cons because I want to have fun with friends and be amongst geeks like myself. If I looked for bad cosplays during my entire visit, the experience would be less positive.

Altering/hybridizing the character can make for very interesting designs. But sometimes you just wanna see someone really pull off the original look and be like wooooaaaaahhh you totally look just like them.
