Lamy has officially release the Lamy Safari With Jetstream Inside and the M17 refill that uses Jetstream ink! www.mpuni.co.jp/company/press/20250108-53820.html So my video, while a fun project is a bit outdated (assuming these refills are good)!
That stainless 2000 sure is a beautiful pen! I have the makrolon ballpoint, pencil, and fountain…perhaps one day I’ll convince myself I need a stainless (and taxus?)
What if the 2000 has a plastic insert?, my Jotter London metal had one I have to remove it and add 207 spring to make a modded Energel or jetstream refill fit
I would think that Schneider Gelion refill (ISO Parker style) would fit perfectly and the whole nib can travel all the way through the narrow tip hole for the click; I found K1 Schneider pens tips also very narrow and only Gelion could fit and travel easily. Another thing I use to modify refills is simply using regular pen cartridges (if looking for thin nib, like Zebra Z1) and roll 1 cm of thin wire around the cartridge and stick it with "super glue" to provide the spring holder, then cut or modify the end easily to achieve the length I need and stable fixation. This way I can have a very good writing experience in high quality barrels, with no price. Also thanks for your great contents 👌
Monteverde is the best for Lamy. Lanier Combo Pack - 3 Pack - Monteverde® Soft Roll™ Ballpoint L13 Paste Ink Refill Compatible with Most Lamy® Style Ballpoint Pens - Blue (Medium Tip 0.7mm)
Uni must have watched your video and then released M17 officially right after it. Good job👍🤣RUclips does not allow me to post link. The press release was published on their website today.
Just this morning I went through the very same process trying to find a Parker Jotter hack. 😂 They have very similar issues to what you encounter here. I havent tried it yet but an idea I had was to take a pencil sharpener and shave down the step on a Jetstream refill. It may make a smoother conical shape rather than wittling it down. (I know there are Jetstream G2 refills, but I just like the game. ❤)
Would you mind doing a review on the pentel graph 1000 for pro 0.5? Or even better, make a comparison for the graph 1000 for pro against the graphgear 1000. Because I've been wondering which one of the two to buy, they both seem like a very good pencil.
This is why I chose to repurchase a Lamy 2000 fountain pen, instead of a rollerball or ballpoint: you can choose any ink you like. After being spoilt by high quality Japanese ball pens at killer prices, I just can’t justify getting a Lamy that uses expensive proprietary ink refills that don’t write as well as a Uni, Zebra or Pencil refill that costs a fraction of the price. Hopefully Mitsubishi starts offering Lamy pens that fit Uni inserts, or vice versa.
I used a file to shave down the metal tip of a Zebra F301 Compact to fit a Fisher and Zebra JKL refill. It worked fine. I just wish I have gone a little slower because I shaved off just a tad too much for my liking.
NOPE! I refuse to try and convert yet another pen to a different refill. I stopped when I converted my Zebra F-701 to use the Zebra gel cartridges. So, how much to the Lamy ballpoints cost? Asking for a friend. ;-)
Mitsubishi owns Lamy now so soon you will have M16 refills in jetstream ink too but I do like M16 refill though as I like some resistance when I write I do not like uncontrollable (almost) tip and ink even though I do like it on occasion for a change
how many people actually have the Lamy ballpoint though? The fountain pen plenty but when I saw the refill price I was like nope... went with a big idea design click one so I can use any refills. Got to say I do like the jetstream refills... those things are a delight to use
many people have Lamy 2000 ballpoint very popular (not the metal one he has here) and the refill is OK price few dollars and last looooong time unlike gel pen refill or hybrid ink like Jetsream which empty very fast
Lamy be like: "We use Bauhaus design. It's a 200 IQ philosophy that puts function over form. Wait, you want the function of being able to use a standard and common ink cartridge? Haha no, we are too intelligent from that, we all graduated from Reddit university!"
Couldn't get anymore accurate than this. I'm seeing Lamy's decision to stick with 20 years old tech refill and make them go proprietary as a mockery to the actual pen designers. Bauhaus, especially the Neo-Bauhaus has always been about timelessness, functionality, and to some extent versatility. Slendering its foundation for a slight increase of sale in refill business is insane.....
If someone designs a 3D printed adapter to a regular and relatively good for writing refill, they will get so many order. Lamy's ballpoint and rollerball refills are CRAPtastic! Awful!! Both in terms of form and writing experience. Dont get me wrong. I love Lamy products, I have several, I adore my L2K, but these refills are so so bad (in lack of any other words). Hopefully Mitsubishi Pen Company that acquired Lamy recently, will fix this.

So excited to bring my Safari ballpoint out of early retirement.
I wonder if after Uni bought Lamy it is possible that they will release jetstream-like refill
Such a great idea
Yea I bet this happens. There are rumors already on Reddit but hard to verify even if the do make a lot of sense.

Etc
They released M17 refill today!
@@unsharpenthey should make it pressurised all that I want
God Bless you for going to so much trouble for those refills. I am greatful I don't have that pen.

I waited years before I got this. It’s very nice. I like the wood ones less
I love Lamy....great quality!
You should be able to fit the Fisher's G2 cam adapter over one of those Zebra converters.

Yes! They did. www.mpuni.co.jp/company/press/20250108-53820.html
Does the LAMY 2000 ballpoint take a M66 gel refill? I bought the M66 a year ago + I can never find a pen that will accommodate it 😩
No only the capless rollerballs use that one

Good idea on the pencil sharpener!

Agreed except that sadly the ballpoint has the best materials so this remains a problem
i wonder is it possible to produce ballpoint ink at home 🤔
Not that I’ve been able to figure out. I know people have tried it but it seems very messy and difficult from what I can tell
I widened the tip with sandpaper on the plastic Xevo model. Many refills now fit. A pencil hack might make more sense instead of a refill hack.
That's interesting, I'll have to try that. I was thinking a small drill but sandpaper would be better. I’ll look into this on a safari perhaps.

Do you think the over complex refill is just "typical" German engineering or making money off the proprietary refills?

Review Indian pen like Rorito jottek Matica, jottek Gel pen, jottek Matica MX please
I’ll see what I can pick up. I have a number of these which are overdue for a video

Hard to say, but it seems pretty popular as luxury pens go?
many people have Lamy 2000 ballpoint very popular (not the metal one he has here) and the refill is OK price few dollars and last looooong time unlike gel pen refill or hybrid ink like Jetsream which empty very fast
A jetstream refill there would be nice, but Lamy refills aren't that bad.
Happens this year I bet since Mitsubishi bought Lamy
Not a fan of Lamy proprietary refills...M66, M63 are not very good. I stop buying one for precisely this reason
I'm not a fan either which is why I migrated to pens that use ISO "Parker style" G2 refills.
I respect that. I've found some great alternatives to those refills though as they are easy to replace. M16 is another beast altogether.
It's certainly mightier than WWE hype.

I think you could perfect a solution with a 3D printer and some experimentation
Yea typically it’s the 3d printer with the d1 refill. But maybe you could get the Jetstream sxr 89 to work. Hmm
I back that, I did create 3d printed adapters for my preferred refills for Montegrappa , Montblanc and other pens and it works
@@unsharpen there are adapters on Thingiverse for the Pilot G2 and Pentel Energel already
For all the hassle, why bother? Seems like a lot of work for not very much gain. Soooo many pens!
Fair point but their designs are so nice
To me the trial and error of finding hacks is just fun in and of itself even when there are better pens.
