This is the pinnacle of music production. Every musician wants 2 sound like this these days and they should. I wanna buy a crotch rocket and put this album on my ipod and just drive and pretend im driving my sega into my parents Zenith like I done for days in the 90s. Fuck
Redwood Forest has been a constant brainworm in my head for nearly 29 years now... Nice to hear the original again... My internal version was pretty accurate though...
"Grass Valley" wins on nostalgia. Killer track and takes me back to rolling through the 16-bit hills chasing down Viper, being careful not to bump or upset Natasha. "Pacific Coast" \m/ \m/. But, damn, "Redwood Forest" is the best of the best. LOVE this soundtrack. Decades later. The FIRST video game I ever purchased at full retail. Sears. Remember that transaction to this day. Road Rash has, does, and always will hold a very special place in my heart.
grass valley has a certain melancholy to it. Beautiful track. I loved how the racers reacted to you at the end of the race, a bit of RPG elements in a racing game was pretty wild at the time. I also remember getting this game after stupidly asking my mom for Mario Lemiuex hockey she bought me Road Rash as I was playing it like crazy at my older sister's house. Mom made the right choice. Road Rash ruled and the music still kicks ass enough that we're featuring it on our VGM music show today
When I was sick with influenza in 199x sleeping on the couch in my living room, hallucinating while awake, my younger brother was playing this all the time and those byorrrrrr noises were messing with me.
The break at 07:47 in Sierra Nevada is absolutely incredible. Thanks for uploading one of my favourite soundtracks across any gaming console/platform :)
3D scrolling track, real time sprite scaling, killer soundtrack, and loads of fun. This game was a revelation of what a true 16 bit entertainment system could do. Oh yes, and no "extra chips" on the cartridge.
@Metalchip1989 Even that, FX2 cant compre with Sega Virtual Processor. SEGA was years ahead in 3D hardware. For instance, Daytona USA is 1993 game and Sega Rally is 1994 game. Playstation 3 and XBox 360 had equivalent port of Daytona USA almost 20 years after.
To this day I can't accept that the song was made in just 3 channels of sound from the Mega Drive soundchip. The sound complexity makes it seem like it uses more sound channels.
Hiya! I have recently remade the full Road Rash 2 score on my channel and had a few suggestions for Road Rash 1 as well, would you say you prefer the first one over the second in terms of music?
@@DeanHarrisComposer Wow that's incredible!! I definitely prefer the first one over the second as far as the tracks go. (Both are great) But the songs in this first soundtrack are much more memorable for me. They also have a certain "Twang" to them like others suggest... @@colbymannino5339 Thanks Colby! I know what you mean about the "Twang" I wonder if its even possible to remake them without losing that original vibe? Or perhaps people dont want that, maybe they want just the song covered but leave out some of the harsh elements!? I think I definitely need to give them more of a listen! :)
@@DeanHarrisComposer You did an Amazing job on the road rash 2 remake, and you found the twang in the Hawaii song!! I have faith, you got this! Stay true to the twang :)
Road Rash is a motorcycle racing video game series by Electronic Arts in which the player participates in violent, illegal street races. Yeah. But that Natasha tho...
Yeah totally agree. The drums loops are incredible. They sound way more technical than any other video game soundtrack of this era. Loads of nice fills and rolls.
Great up. Total funky crunchy stuff! Moar Hubbard and Bartlow, please. Loved EA Genesis music from the first Madden Football and Lakers versus Celtics to the NBA Live stuff and Road Rash series, it was all good.
Nothing beats the Main Theme but the entire soundtrack kicks ass. Best soundtrack of the 16 bit era for me, F-Zero is in there too along with Link To The Past.
A welcome upload. The Mega Drive soundtrack is infinitely better than the Amiga one with more badass, crazier, just more "Road Rash-esque" tunes! Don't care if the title screen music on Amiga has higher quality instrumentations, it still sounds dull & I don't even talk about the in-game tunes where the quality takes a dive due to Amiga's limited amount of sound channels (which also makes for overall inconsistency unlike on Mega Drive).
You think the Amiga one is disappointing? There is a compilation called EA Replay for PSP. It has a lot of EA's old Genesis games from the 90s, including the Road rash trilogy. I was so excited to fire this up (Road Rash on the go!!) Everything is the same, except the soundtrack. There is one generic song for every racing stage in the game, they took all the songs out. Why?? I'm pretty sure there wasn't a copyright issue. It singlehandedly ruined it for me.
@@jblanch3 Didn't know about that! This doesn't make the Amiga soundtrack any less bad but it's a damn joke on its own! I gonna listen to that generic song just out of curiosity but it sure won't make up for removing all the kickass Mega Drive tunes!
I don't know what Ron Hubbard was thinking when he composed these, I like to think this sounds "bad" on purpose, like he wanted to do thrash metal. Thrash metal! On megadrive/genesis! Crazy!!! Maaaan!! Playing this with my dad and his best friend getting stoned out taking turns, stereo playing in surround sound on a bad ass stereo, rattling the windows. If I could go back 😩
grass valley and palm desert are the exact same track. Palm desert just has seven seconds of introduction and some extra filler before the loop point, I even looked at the visual wave forms to be sure I wasn't crazy on this one point. I wondered why that was the only music I could remember from this years after being bothered by hearing it constantly while my brother played this years ago; it is in 40% of the stages. Hubbard's tunes here are fine but Bartlow only wanted to use that one dyow noise and theremin effect for whatever reason. Maybe he had a rough deadline that time who knows. Its bass is interesting, though.
They all sound great but Redwood Forest is my favorite. It sounds the most serious and not messing around. Perfect soundtrack for punching a guy off his bike in the 90s.
Shway. This is the only game of the trilogy I don't have, and it's so similar to the other 2 that I haven't played it yet. Saw it at the retro store yesterday and thought of getting it. But went with Timeless adventures of Mickey Mouse instead, and Resident Evil 2 :D

Maybe, Road Rash was inspiration for Road & Track: Need For Speed. The both games are similar: you unlock the extensions from same stage and the game became more difficult. And it is same developer, EA. The difference is bikes and cars.
Where do you think the original Road Rashers would be at this point in time? And is there anyone else who thinks Biff was based off Dirk Benedict? He looks like a straight lift.
