    AWESOME! My boyfriend was losing his mind trying to wire a headlight for a custom built Harley Bobber. Your video was followed step by step. Within minutes he had it wired and functioning properly. Thank you for making my house a happy home again!

    For all the people asking about connecting two lights to it. Connect a parallel wire from 87 and/or 87a.

    i have been tormented with this idea for months!!thanks for the solution.. was struggling with wiring two led bars ..one with low beam and the other for high beam and when whenever i put on high beam the led bar that is attached to the low beam turns off!! i knew it had something to do with a 5 pin relay! !you made it super clear

    there are two switches, (1 )the on & off & (2) the high & low beam, pin 30 on your diagram connects to pin 86 then one wire goes to the battery, then when you hooked it up during the video you used two separate hot wires keeping 30/86 on separate wires both connected to the battery, the diagram would be correct if another switch was added before the battery, I would add an on & off switch to the lead after pin 86 to battery & wire a separate larger hot directly to pin 30 to the battery, assuming the high low switch on the floor is a two wire with one post to ground, caution most floor dimmers are not wired this way, most have three wires (1)high (2) low hot on the dimmer with a (3)third positive wire also on the dimmer switch hooked to 12 volts ignition or battery, no ground on the dimmer switch The diagram looks like a motorcycle switch when the ignition is on the lights stay on until the ignition is switched off by not showing the on & off switch this becomes very confusing, & can cause a potential short if the dimmer on the floor is a three wire regards

    Good demo..... But i would connect a fuse specific to the vehicle specs and connect both fuses between 87a to lamp and 87 to lamp..... Otherwise bulbs wont last long for getting too much power

    Hey so I think I figured out how to do high and low beams on a 3 position toggle switch on-off-on. You use two 5 pin relays, one for the low beams and another for the high beams. Watch a few more videos on how the 5 pin relays are set up, but the headlights are pretty straight forward, top is positive and if you run the negative through any of the sides it’ll be either low or high beam

    • @MRGierut013
      @MRGierut013 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah, you'd have to put in another switch. Either on the hot side or the ground side.

    • @gringoloco22
      @gringoloco22 6 лет назад +2

      You would need a second relay to completely turn it off. You don't want to just use switches which is the whole point of relays.

  • @odongohenry4863
    @odongohenry4863 3 года назад +1

    Yes, your video can be followed and understood but improve on switching off low beam may be by use of 2 relays

    • @lynskyrd
      @lynskyrd 2 года назад

      Why 2 switches?... this is daytime running lights with a highbeam switch. 87a stays hot until the highbeam switch is thrown- 87a opens and 87 closes allowing power to the highbeam. The only thing missing here is a fuse but not necessary for this simple demonstration.

    what about the dimmer switch, three wires one is high, one is low, the center is power, what your saying is use only the power wire & one leg of the dimmer switch, since the dimmer has two legs, I wonder where I can use the third leg, since by turning the light to low beam the other lead is hot 12v & could potentially could power ????

    • @nbkkash9451
      @nbkkash9451 4 года назад

      Jeff Booher you need a 5 pin relay for this. Low beam signal input plus 12v vs high beam signal input plus 12v. You only get one or the other. The squigly between 86 and 85 is variable/a resistor. A higher voltage input nets you high beams while a lower input nets you low beams. Its own switch inside the relay.

    If i were so inclined to just use this to set an on and off switch dedicated to HIGH beam and OFF, how would i wire it? to my knowledge (electricalnoob) the bulb just receives two different amounts of wattage is that correct? via Wattage equals voltage times amperage.
